I don't love the beathing the chest gorilla routine for turning on Fighting: Tough, but I run all male character tough guys. I deal with it. It is stupid 99% of the time. But, meh.
My wife however refuses to turn on the power on the Tank i am helping her with. A willpower tank (especially using SOs) needs this.
Is there any way to kill the animation on this thing? -

What side do you pick more than others?
Redside for my first almost 3 years exclusively. I am now on Blueside a lot, but will be flip/flopping a lot more in my future plans.
What play style do you prefer?
I like to be a primary damage dealer. Brutes mostly, Doms, and a few Blasters.
What power set(s) do you favor?
I love SS. I use Invul and Will a lot. For Doms I like Grav/Energy. I like Dark powers a lot too. I have certain concepts for my characters that lead me to very specific sets. I wish Energy Melee was written better. That type of over the top movements just scream super to me.
What zones do you like the most?
I like hub zones. Cap is really tightly written, with a lot of adventures one zone away. More like that. Also, the central city on that is wow.
Do you usually play as a male or female (word of hatred) ''toon''?
I only play male characters. For sooooo many reasons.
Views on Role Playing?
I am an old school over the board roleplayer. Still do quite a bit of it. Cannot seem to find interest in doing any RP online though.
Servers?
I started on Liberty redside. Who knew it was dead, I just picked a name. Got a Villain SG up to the top 50 or so (Vanguard Line, does anyone remember my endless recruiting?) Then I moved servers a bit, settled into Freedom. Freedom Redside was fun for me, though a did a lot of soloing. 36 character slots on that server for me. I tried Exalted when it came out. But I am on Virtue almost exclusively now. I have a group of very serious Badgers and MO runners I hang with. i mostly fill in for them and am basically watching/learning. (and grabbing great badges!) -
I believe you can un-boost the enhancers to move them once boosted. I have not rolled into enhancement boosting yet.

Quote:An eye opening way of looking at things. Thank you. Indeed, quite different than the mindset I have for doing all content regardless of what it is on my current project. Sidesteps a lot of the roadblocks I had in my head. Thank you.Well let's break down badges:
Explore-any at any powerset should be fine.
History- same.
Crafting-same.
AE-same.
WW\BM-anything.
PvP-For the most part anything, keep in mind you will need help to get rv heroes\avs and the arena ones.
Accolades- these you get for collecting other badges so its not really its own topic.
That pretty much leaves achievement and accomplistopic:
You will need to be able kill things faster is better since a lot of it will be grey hunts.
You will need a some way of healing (someone correct me but I believe longbow warden2 heal farms no longer work?). You can use destiny rebirth but it takes a while.
You will need to be able to damage farm.
Having the ability to heal (pain dom, thermal, empathy, dark, rad) will help with not just heal badges but also damage farming (except dark) since you can go into rest and rock your heal aura to take a little more damage.
So with those powers in mind you could go def, corr,mm,troller.
MM would be great for killing as well as damage farming and healing.
trollers -damage can be light might make kill badges last longer than necessary.
corrs- good choice
def-as good as corrs
So your left with playing a def, corr or mm.
Just my 2 cents....I badge on an emp\elec and it can be painful at times soloing missions or doing hunts but im sitting at 1294 badges. -
I am currently penciling in my next project. So far I have a blank piece of paper, a goals, some info on my like/dislikes, and that's about it.
My goal: Quickly develop a badger who has 95%+ badges in the game. (quickly is a very relative term here)
My likes: I tend to like melee characters when soloing. When things get ugly I prefer to just quickly deal with the problem rather than try to puzzle it out. Having said that I have run a few perma-doms and really enjoy that. Although usually I'll try to get on a team so my life is a hundred times easier. I want to like Blasters, but I do not do well on them, especially solo, especially with concrete mission goals that cannot be failed. Then again, I haven't ever really I/o'd a blaster, cause I could never figure out how to do it right. I am currently taking a SS/Invul Brute and soloing all content Blueside (every arc/every side mish/all of it) and am enjoying the project. It can get a little draining, but I am on a good target to complete sometime in late February. After that I will start this project.
My Dislikes: I do not like weapons and redraw. Weapons are not heroic to me, and the redraw and disappearing weapons I have conceptual problems with. Titan Weapons are cool, but I do not want to use them for this project. (Giant Weapons that are beyond human capabilities are by nature super, supernatural, or divine in my book)
My question. What would be a good arch-type and power sets to solo the entire game. I could do another SS/Invul Brute, but I would prefer anything else. If only because I do not want to have nothing but 3 six billion inf builds of the exact same build. (I have the 50 I play tested the build, the current one I am leveling, a 3rd would be overkill...) p.s., I want to start from scratch for this project.
I have run very few Scrappers, and am heavily considering that. Most of the soloing involves stealthing a few 2-3 mob combats. Some draw out, but 90% are real quick, and a Scrapper is better suited to that than a Brute. I would love to throw a dark dom into the pool, but am unsure I could do well with it. If I could figure a way to Blaster this it would be epic, but I am very unsure if that would be possible. -
Quote:Funny story about my name... I managed to get out to Comic Con this year and met a bunch of the devs, including Matt "Positron" Miller. I introduced myself to him, and he recognized me from the forums, and then he saw my name tag...
Matt: "Wait. Your name is actually 'Chad Gulzow,' and your character name is 'Chad Gulzow-Man?'"
Me: "Yup!"
Matt: ... *gives a look that says, "It is taking all the tact I have to not facepalm right now"*
Okay, now that's cool. -
Sometimes I wonder about Forbin. Is it really "I will create a Project named Forbin that argues every point across every board."
He was fun to watch for awhile, but it's the same shtick over and over again now though. I wonder if the creator still enjoys it? -
Quote:You honestly thought I listed a series of PROs and CONs and were not talking about what I thought was good and bad? Wow. So when Joe at the corner says "Eat burgers, they are good." You hear. "You must eat Burgers. Burgers are Good." And it is as if a divine prophet has come down and declared truth unto the masses. You weren't really presenting factual "Cons" though, you were presenting your opinion as fact. The first being a strict rule in place to prevent people from flooding the market with these enhancements, the second being...just your average problem, not something specific to the question at hand. Understandable that it irritates you, but not really 'cons' overall.
Explains a lot about how cults start.
Nope, to clarify, i was talking about why I do and do not like something.
P.S., it is also irritating when you e-mail them that unless you are immediately ready to slap them on another character they clog your e-mail up. the more you have, the worse it gets.
p.p.s. That last statement was just something I think is bad. it is not a law. it is not something the Devs said. No prophet has handed down that word from high above. -
Quote:Forbin, I was making a statement about what things were Cons for me.Translation: Marketeers can't abuse them by flooding the market with them. If they ant to manipulate the market they can't use the store as a short cut.
Not a Con.
Which is no different than what players have to go thru when they want to email anything else to their own characters regardless of whether it's regular enhancements, inspirations, or salvage.
While it is annoying it's not a con that is unique to account bound enhancements.
You just clearly stated that I was wrong. That these things are not Cons to me.
Are you truly stating that you know my preferences better than I do? -
But this is the line of conversation I would be interested to see pursued. How are we with saying the simplistic formulaic iconic names of yore are pretty much in hindsight as horrific as black&white TV Supermans long johns? A version of which were pretty much copied exactly for Capt. America's recent big screen outing, at least tailoring wise!

Quote:"According to Buck Salinger, it's a well known fact that Fey creatures such as the Fir Bolg, Red Caps and Tuatha fear iron more than any other substance. This Iron Blade you recovered may be of some use against them. You may carry it for 3 days before returning it to the village." -ParawikiWhich was obviously such a cool name, that the devs created an in-game temporary weapon with the same name.... YEARS later.
I really think they were just using "Iron Blade" as a description based on the fact that according to mythology Iron weapons do more damage to certain creatures.
But you could be right. The Devs may have read one of your posts and ripped off your creativity and never gave you due credit. Brother i feel your pain. -

I HATE this game for making Titan Weapons and not having Giant Scissors be an option. The possibilities they have ruined has shattered my heart. I F&*ing HATETHEM>@
ps, is it wrong that I never realized consciously there were mecha and nazis in ancient rome until I read the post above this one? Takes a lot of out of context to phase this old city hand lol. -
Thanks for the props. I can be a butthead, I'll admit it though lol. In this case the question was a slightly obtuse statement. But I actually like Chad Gulzow-Man (at least what I know of him from his posts) and was trying not to be a complete butthead. He's needling, I'm needling back.
In the beginning I did want the thread to die. 1) i obviously wasnt gonna sell the name. 2) The flack is pretty impressive.
But at this point I am kind of turning the thread to debate and philosophy. I am an art student (part time lol) and enjoy a roiling critique more than a boring one.
Let's discuss names. I think Arbiter Death is a good name. Unimaginitive? Some good arguments have been made in this thread it is very unimaginitive. Uninspired? again, i've heard some stinging criticism. But look at Spider-Man. Really. I am trying to find names that fit my concepts, are short, and fit well into the Super Genre. Granted Arbiter Death looks auto generated, but don't most of the great Supers of the Gold and Silver. I love the incredibles, but Fro-Zone? Really! And indeed, Incredible.
So, the thread shows no sign of going away, and I am trying to enjoy it. I will try to hang back from being overly critical, but you can expect a sideways dig at any name you post here. Fair is fair after all. Defend your choice, and please, offer an intelligent critique of mine. It can only help. -
Dimensional Warder is the badge that requires all the AVs, i think all those AVs are in an arc in 40-45 range. I will be fighting them solo as EBs, i think that will get me credit that I need. Thats a pre-req for portal Jockey, and thats my pencilled in notes on how I plan to get it.
I see a arc called return to Vapyr mountain in my future, hopefully that will net me the Vampri badge, and then I just needs some warwolves lol. That will be the Atlas medallion. -
Quote:Hate the game not the Playa! So I've been playing this game on and off since June of 2004. Why? Because I enjoy it. If I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't be here, and if the game didn't continue to evolve in ways I enjoyed, I wouldn't keep playing. But there's a disturbing trend I've noticed over the last couple of years, in which many long term players have violently turned on the game, picking out each and every flaw they can find, all while acting like they're acting in the game's best interests by acting hyper-critical towards it. I'm not saying that criticism of any kind is bad, and a real fan should never point out flaws, but I've begun to feel like the City of Heroes community has fallen into that paradigm of cynicism=intelligence that plagues so many other fandoms.
But at the end of the day, I still find myself really enjoying this game! I like the community, I like the story, I like the design. Could they all be better? Yes, but I've never felt like ignoring the good parts of the game could improve my overall experience in any way. Granted, the increased criticism towards this game has caused me to notice some of the weaker parts of this game and become more critical, but I feel like I'm expected to play this game almost maliciously, looking for flaws at every turn.
So what I guess I'm trying to ask here is, would I really be doing anyone a favor by hating this game? Because I can't really see any benefit of continuing to play a game I hate.
No seriously. I complain a lot. Sometimes even rant, but the game is a very good thing. I am currently soloing Blueside, and in my thread dedicated to that I complain, and whine, about many of the old writing problems. I also point out the good things. And how Redside was better, praetoria better than red, and the rewrite of Atlas better than Praetoria. I love a curve that improves. Still, some of old Blueside (edited for everyone). So, hate what needs hating, but be grateful for not only the change, but the direction of the change. (little calculus humor there) -
Quote:Spartplow is unique too. Does that make it great? I just typed thatrandomly, I can generate a few hundred more "unique" names if you want to buy those? Cheaper by the dozen.I think you've missed the point. That name is trite and cliche. When we get the darkness control set, the servers will be awash in characters named Dark Lord, Dark Prince, Lord of Darkness, Dark Master, etc, etc. A name like Arbiter Death is really only suitable for a joke character. Now, to be fair, I do make joke characters. I have already grabbed the name 'Dark Lord Darkness'.
Gulzow, on the other hand, is unique. It tells you instantly that you're dealing with a specific person (or someone deliberately copying their name).
Give you an idea where I am coming from. The last thing you want to hear in a critique is " Well....that is...unique..."
yes, Arbiter Death is not "Wonderfully imaginative beyond all ken, the start of a new movement". However, as you can see by the comments in the thread, it provokes a great reaction. If what you are doing creates a visceral reaction, even or especially negative, you are on to something. Just sayin.
ps, how does Gulzow tell me that the person I am dealing with is any more a specific person than Spartplow, or Catgirl23, or Arbiter Dark Death Lord? Can you explain that one to me? I missed that lesson. -
There are major pros, and major cons with the tuned I/O enhancers at the shop.
Cons
1) they are impossible to sell to anyone else
2) they are hard to move to another character. (thru global e-mail, 20 at a time max, and those 20 take a few minutes cause the 15 sec rule)
Pros)
1) You can slot them at the lowest level of the set 20 or 25 or w/e
2) They level up with you to the highest level of the set 40 or 50 or w/e
3) If you exemplar back down you do not lose the set bonuses until 3 levels under the lowest level of the set, yet when 50d you get the max bonus the set can deliver. (Basically best of both worlds, set bonuses work as low as possible, and enhancement bonuses are always as good as allowed)
For myself, I in general do not like them. they are too much of a pain. Except, I am leveling a character doing a Blueside project. i am running all content on one Brute Blueside. Big project. Almost my entire build is Paragon Market tuned enhancers. When you spend a week at 20-24, two weeks at 25-29, etc these types of things make a ton of sense.
I will be creating my first badger after this project. I will be planning to use Tuned enhancers for that as well. I sure hope they market more LOTG , I should have bought a couple more sets in the fall, didnt realize it was a short term sale. -
Let me get this straight. You named 7 characters Gulzow something, and the inspiration there was "somebody mispelled our family name over a hundred years ago"
I know Arbiter Death is lacking in subtlety. that is the point. The first time I painted what I actually like my art instructor almost locked up. He was kind, but it was forced. Good news: He had already given me a lot of the tools I need to keep painting what he considers drech. My art deals a lot with death, necrosis, supernatural influences, and it aint subtle.
Granted I cannot point to a 4 generation clerical error as my muse and ridicule anyone who does not have that high bar standard. Just sayin'. -

So, Marvin Weintraub tonight. The Freak story arc was actually kind of cool. Then old Marv threw about 3 times the extra 5 missions Wiki says he has. One was a simultaneous 3 bomb defuse, recruited two friends after I cleared the mission. (Also had to rescue 5 or 6 hostages in it.) Good news, Marv got tired of me before I got tired of him. Bad news, just barely lol. Also picked up the badge for killing things in the wake of the IP ghost ship. I realized I am away from the house this weekend. So, I will do a couple more arcs, and pick it up again next week. It looks like I am closer to the end of 25-29 content than the beginning. I still have 3 contacts I haven't touched, and the bank to do. Then i will start poking around to see if I missed anything. Nothing in Marv's missions bothered me. Did not see a Super Stunner, and did not miss them. Lotta Freaks and Family, and I walked hard on them. I think the time away will re-energize me for the task. I know I am itching to get some more levels on this guy. I also have to start thinking accolades. With all the badges I have collected there should just be a few kill x of y to fill out all possible accolades. I have never hung around Blueside enough to know. All my accoladed characters are Red.
-
Heh, my global is Snarky. Not kidding, my wife's suggestion. So, you cannot be Snarky!
Anyways, yeah, some of this is new to me. I have solo'd Redside a few times. I played almost exclusively Redside content for years. I think I knew Sky raiders were ex-military, but not sure. Anyways, now that I see their commander is a freak it just really stood out somehow, that contrast. Pretty sure this is the first I heard that the Banished Pantheon were raised from a military graveyard off Dark Astoria. Really glad to be doing the Dark Astoria content before that goes the Ouro way.
Another nice thing I see is the steady improvement of the game. Redside was written after Blueside mostly, and it was better. I have solo'd Praetoria about 3 times, and that was written better than Redside. The new stuff in the rewrite of Posi TF, and the rewrite for beginning heroes in Atlas is even better. So, kudos to the staff for steady progress. Some of this Blueside stuff I am slogging through is just....blech. Mostly this is due to too many hunt 20x, or too many find 7 glowies in a row. Othertimes I find gems. (That Sky Raider Captain's costume. Oh my!) But even while slogging I am taking the time to read the content. Hard to retain it all. But the canon of knowledge is insanely large. One of my big problems is not creating alts for each idea I come across. i may designate a server my idea alt server, one that I have no characters on, and just create 1st level concept characters so I remember the thought. Then i can keep slogging and look at it once I'm done. In fact I will do that starting now. Cause my next project is a badger, and i will have 6 months idea done once I get done with these two projects.
On Redside after 30 I had to turn off exp earning a lot less. I do not think i shall be that lucky Blueside. Blueside may have some drech, but it has tons of it lol. I'll keep looking for the gems and keep folks posted.
