Good advice Uskarex thanks. I got 'dumped' into lead position on that one. I was unaware of the exact level of stun prot needed in the final fight. I will study that so I know the numbers in my head.
I had led a successful UG once before using 3, with instructions to Clarion 1 at start, 2 at 15 sec, 3 at 30 sec. No idea if they followed my instruction, and the fight was over in about 40 seconds. I assume at least one or two hit Clarion, possibly when I had instructed. I was bruting that, and we had somewhere between 3-5 brutes/tanks, and we all got to the front (I was quite proud of that) and so the squishies were backstabbing the beast. I assume that helped a lot, and of course, Des was led in. I led this a few months ago and received the attaboys at the end. It did not leave me with a desire to run another.
I went on this with my 50+1 because I finally leveled this 50 after about 4 years and ran him though the alpha unlock and 1 Keyes. I used e-mailed threads to unlock the 50+1. But he is really a back burner guy. I slammed a great I/O build on him from spares in my base, not 'tuned' which is my new favorite toy. I have a crapton of un-tuned I/Os of my favorite types in my base, thought the old guy deserved some. The reason I tell you this is I saw the UG being advertised and new I had a 'decent' build, 50+1 Dark/Invul with a expensive I/O build AND I desperately needed both types of Incarnate experience, that UG gives out like no other trial. I have not run the character since that trial. He only regularly gets played as my weekly CoT redside guy. Someday I will +3 him lol. maybe next year? -
NVM, this conversation was not nearly as interesting as I had hoped.

Quote:Don't take this the wrong way, but I think I love you. It's odd that you say that because the fact that I have to pay for powersets doesn't make me feel like a VIP either: it makes me feel like a PIGS! Person of Inter-Galactic Significance, that is! With a mere several mouse clicks, the forces of nature come together at my fingertips, bending to my every whim! An electrical signal is sent from my mighty brain through my highly evolved nervous system down to my stately digit, crushing the unsuspecting button into submission. In its understandable urgency to kowtow to my designs, it then relays a signal through a series of tubes, in real time. At the local pumping station, NCSoft collects my pronouncement and from it gathers that my unflinching wisdom and unstoppable potency have come together to make them an offer that they are powerless to refuse: "Give me your power sets," they imagine me intoning, "and nobody gets hurt and you get ten dollars." Hurriedly they uphold their end of the bargain, knowing full well the consequences of dalliance. Behold: I have gained the ability to hit a robot with a stick without the merest exertion of my callipygian form.
Now would somebody PL me plz?
PS., not enough to PL you. -
Quote:I have good news for you my friend. You do NOT have to pay for new powersets. I have still not bought staff melee. I did purchase StJ, Titan Weapons, and Water Blast. All of which I enjoy. (And when I run them, yes, there is a part of me that is glad they are a tiny bit restricted. I really should run more villains....)Well, I am VIP player and I've been playing the game for about almost six years now. Something that really bothers me as that I have to pay for new powersets. Before the launch of Freedom powersets were included in the sub ( correct me please if I am wrong) now it seems almost every powerset has to be purchased off the market. Now as VIP we don't even get a discount. First off, I understand we get new content in itrials, some costume sets, and story arcs ..etc trust me I aware of we get, however it doesn't feel VIPish at all!
I have no problem by the way with content and what the development team is doing. My only concern it seems that everything requires shelling out money for points. Hell a half off discount for new powers would suffice not even that.

Quote:Wait, are you talking about cross dressing or an actual TransDuck?I am aware, but the male characters don't have access to the bloomer/puffy shorts nor the Witch boots with those huge feet, thus the male design suffered from not being "duck" enough for my liking. Artist licence wins... Besides, it could be a boy that stuffs his shirt and walks with a swishy gate.

SSA = Signature Story Arc (sweet rewards if you like them)
DFB = Death From Below (Low level TF, just go to atlas park and say LF DFB)
I/Os = Invention Origins
Any character any level can get to Praetoria through Pocket D. There is a Martini Glass looking door icon in the main dancing area tucked behind the big sloping ramps. Creating a character there requires going rogue I think, mebbe not for VIP. I've always been VIP and bought all expansions, so unclear on where the red ropes are.
CoH Wiki is the source, or course!

The Praetoria storylines are nicely done. They have little patience for low end machines though. Praetoria is also mostly deserted, and you are locked there until 20. But, it's a neat little game there all the same.
The Incarnate trials and Incarnate Powers are a very nice addition to the game. Explore, Enhance, Enjoy.
Positron TF got a revamp, and the Sister Psyche TF was relaced by the Penny Yin TF. Both good moves.
If you like the I/O game there are some neat changes. On the spendy end you can now buy tuned I/Os from the paragon market in microtransactions (they do add up lol) My main is mostly kitted out in these for ease of Exemplaring. While painful to do (because of storage problems) I find them wonderful for leveling concept builds as well, so I can get a feel for the build much earlier than 40 or 50.
The DFB is hard to miss, the new sanctioned powerleveling for new characters. Also drops SOs and temp powers.
Actually, there is a lot more stuff, but those are some of my favorites. Glad to have you back, enjoy. -
The easiest ride in the game (for me) is the Super Strength / Willpower Brute. Strong and powerful on SOs, and super easy on a strong I/O build. I have rolled many of these, and recently made the decision for one to be my main. I solo'd all the way through Praetoria for the couple extra badges only available there since this build will be my badger over the next few years. I have almost all tuned enhancers on him (everywhere they fit!) since this will also be my go-to exemplar'd build.
For me Super Strength has always been one of the most smashtastic brutiest super sets ever. The bonuses from Rage are unequaled in the game. Paired with Willpower you are the energizer bunny of Brutes. Definitely not Tanky, (especially with Will's weak taunt aura), but plays closer to one of the meanest Scrappers ever. Just watch it so you never take a full alpha to the face (or do if I/O'd!) and soak up the hate, pouring it back as FS and KO extra damage. -

Yes, the league teleport. But I also had a problem in that peeps were starting to engage the last fight due to impatience. THis was "death wish tactics" although the peeps doing it did not realize that.
There is ONE easy way to do that last fight. You can do it sloppy with a ton of power ( I mean a metric TON of I/O'd incarnated+3 tier 4'd godbuilds) , but generally people die, slowly, the league gets worked for long minutes, and nothing is fun. If you follow the simple advice on Wiki, and have 3+ clarions firing in a decent interval the fight lasts 30 secs to a minute. People always seemed stunned how easy it is when done professionally. -
Clever, I'll throw that into my bag of tricks and hopefully remember to pull it back out at the right time.

I jumped onto a UG about a week ago, just cause I needed the incarnate experience. We ended up with a League of 16-18. I was on a brand new 50, had gotten alpha to tier 3, but nothing else. But it is one of my "serious characters" and has a very set up i/o build, as well as being a dark/invul brute, which is no slacker. So, i did not feel as if I would be bringing nothing to the table.
I will not lie, it was tougher than I thought it would be. I had forgotten the penetrating stun from some of the mobs. Oof. The "You are targeted" + "You are Held" combo got me a couple times as well. Still, I soldiered on.
The League was acting good, and things were going well, until the 1st giant robot. Then it became obvious that quite a few players were not used to the UG, and I mean at all. The league leader quit. I love to bark when stressed, so I started barking what I wanted and trying to lead and stay alive. Miraculously we put down both bots with a couple minutes to spare. I was like, "huh, interesting."
We continued on, going pretty smooth, someone went ahead and cleared the bombs. I started rattling off the wiki patter I had learned, repeating it a few times so everyone heard it.
Brutes and Tanks will go in. Get agro, stay in front. Everybody else pile in bhind. Bring in the zombie NPC we kept alive so she can do the magic she does.
We had 3 clarions and I had verbal confirmations from them on my preferrred drop rate for them, 1, 2, 3, we were almost at the room.
AND the NPC got stuck in a wall right before the last door that has a loading screen (so even if we wanted we could not drag the beast to her) THe whole situation devolved from there. Worse, we got her unstuck, so no Help Request would be valid. Truly Tragic. I have only led 1 UG myself before this (went surprisingly smooth) and I was really hoping this one would be my 2nd (made more sweet for turning it around) but it was not to be.
I guess the only help I am looking for is are they doing anything to correct this kind of "things get stuck so the game just wasted an hour or two from 15 people's lives" situation? Cause it was real frustrating to get that close and have the situation devolve due to a stuck NPC. -
Ah, nice. I went to one event where they were just shouted in broadcast. first and last I ever went to. I would rather just pay the cash if I want something. The lure for me is just getting it months before anyone else of course.

the Dark Matter codes are not all that random. If you have a faster internet connection and a windowed setup, or a second machine running next to yours, then you are MUCH more likely to get the code. Because the code is announced, and you can cut paste into the other machine. Really its a hardware and skill test. That aint random. Just saying.

I saw this message about 12 hours ago. Soooo.... How the party at the D going? Have the flowers wilted yet?
-
Nice. I have the ascension, and it is....interesting to work with.
I sort of have a peeve about all the coloring in the game. For instance, I have a sweet little costume I just built out of standard pieces, and no back detail worked with it. (wanted something for flight) Wings were right out, mechanical wings were also out, the rocket backpack from Mecha was almost right, but too big. The simple rocket from the new space stuff! Yes. I worked with the color on it for half hour, still not happy.
For the love of all that is artistic, can they not just add a skin option to these things that have a standard color palette and not whatever underlying texture or tone makes it not match anything else in the game? Is that really too much to ask? Seriously, 1 drop down on the thing, no texture. Argh. -
From best to works 1 equals very good, 10 not so much
1) Can lead a league on a very complicated task even if some are new to the task, or build a league that can accomplish an extremely difficult task. ( Cathedral of Pain, Underground Trial, Master of ___________ Badge run ) consistently
2) Can lead teams to accomplish difficult tasks ( Master of _______ TF )
3) Can build and run a difficult character type ( difficult for them, a melee player running a squishy, etc.) and do it extremely well, hitting optimal performance. (Optimal means understanding what the character can do and milking it for all it's worth)
4) Can build and run a archetype they are comfortable with hitting optimal performance.
5) Can join a new TF, Trial, or Master Badge run (that they have never been on before) and help the league/team succeed in the goal by following directions.
6) Be a useful member of a team/League
7) Be on a team or league and not do anything that makes the situation worse. (pulling extra spawns the team is not ready for, using knockback to destroy the killbox setup the team is going for, etc.
8) Only once in a while doing something that does nothing to help. ("oops, I think i just pulled that spawn...")
9) Kind of listen to what the team is trying to do, but sort of doing what you want, and creating almost as much chaos as help you bring to the team.
10 ) Leeeeeroy Jenkins! -
Thanks Harry. I had actually not considered Hurl. (Mostly cause I rarely take it.) But it does indeed give a rough graphical physics estimate of what a Super Strength character is able to pull off with sheer brute force.
-
Interesting CoHRock. I think the Tank would make a Good base for the Brute. Using my logic (no guarantee I am right btw) sheer force output is the measure of the strength. ie I do not care about to hit, or whether you hit harder "are stronger" as a base or because of rage issues. We will obviously leave out outside buffs though. No cheating in the Paragon Olympics. Ahem. (I'm looking at you Dr. Aeon!)

Quote:Based on my experience in the hero system I would disregard Footstomp since it is a'modified' power (it has area effect, special effect, etc.) The slew of straight up punches are a better way to make a comparison since you could just average the DPS or punch power and see the effect. Basically, I kill (er arrest) 1 level 1 hellion with 1 punch (pretending the damage matches up perfectly) that compares to "the average damage strength 20 arrests in this system or whatever" in this system. The need for multiple punches and averaging is to ensure a more accurate read of the strength. DPS might also be a way to go, but overlying the CoH time with another system intimidates me slightly. (okay, a lot)Depends on the weight of the target, but Knockout blow would be the best measurement. Also Footstomp.
First: How strong would you have to be to punch someone in the gut and send them up however many feet KoB does? I'd use a human sized enemy to measure this.
Second: How strong would you have to be to cause a shockwave that can knock people over by slamming your foot in the ground?
Both of those would probably have very different answers. I'm not sure the second one is possible without really dense ground.
yes, this is for flipping my tabletop gaming characters into and out of CoH. I have been gaming in White Wolf systems in the last few years, but having numbers in a more transparent system like hero system is better I think. Especially since I think i know where some gurps to hero conversion are. -
Teleport Foe has a range of 200 feet and an accuracy of 1. If you can get enough +acc bonus on that and get to the edge of the range (A lot of set up I know) it can be a evil little trap. Thats what I enjoy about CoH/CoV, if pushed you can really find these neat out of the box situations. A /Traps Blaster could line the entire way to the pulled mob with enough hate to clear a spawn, in theory. And the poor Sapper or Super Stunner that is TP'd? ah, good times.
-
Okay, it has to be asked. Or, at least, I am asking it.
How strong is someone with Super Strength? I guess we would have to split that into Tanker and Brute. (Loved the line about Paragon Olympics and what Brutes have to do to get ready in another thread lol) To make it easier (?) we can just use tanker numbers and then adjust everything by the damage multiplier as if it was a straight up strength multiplier. I would assume a big difference between 1st level and 50th as well. I am most interested in these (1st level "floor") and (50th level "ceiling") numbers.
I would assume it would have to be converted into a amount of force delivered kind of thing, with a comparison of two or three attacks and their effects with another more mechanical and open system. Say, average damage for Punch, Haymaker and Knockout Blow compared to average damage of attacks in another game. (The only one I know to use is the old school tabletop hero game system, which converts to physics rather easily, if not perfectly exactly) THere may be a better and more efficient way.
Once you have that you can easily convert (easily is relative here) to Bench Press, Deadlift, and Squat.
Anybody got any pencil sketches of this kind of mathematical doodling hanging around their desktop? I cannot be the first geek to have this cross my mind. -
Quote:Hmm, honestly I stay away from SR for armour. Having said that YES. Of course I could. I spent a few months earlier in the year with ranged softcapped Blasters. Surprisingly hardy little beasts. Give me SR And I could cap all 3 positions, have some resists, MEZ Protection, and Blaster damage. Sure, I have to "play smart" (I would prefer Invulnerability, of course) But If you gave me this I would have the obscene Blaster I always wanted. Talk to the Devs for me will you?Let me ask you, can you make a viable character out of Super Reflexes primary and Fire Blast secondary? I pair those two sets because they have no support or utility powers in them. I'd have to insist that you also take no heals from pool powers.
I think a SR/FB tankmage character would be balanced. Powerful in quick bursts, but in the long run he's gonna take hits and go down.
