Oil paint takes a LOOONG time to dry. It looks fantastic, and I'm sure that the picture isn't as good as seeing it in person. I've enjoyed seeing this in its various stages. Thank you for sharing Comrade. Now let's celebrate with some vodka!

You need to have a link to some references handy so you can get more surprise gift art.

Don't say things like that! I'm as gullible as a con man in love. I'm also easily distractible, which is why the dishwasher threw my night off so easi - Oooh, shiny!

Quote:I'm glad you fixed the jerk hacker. Your site could've been gone to the Americans.Note that my site is down (5/12/2010) because some jerk hacker managed to get in. I'm busy fighting it and trying to restore the site, but it's taking time
I'm really enjoying your comic. I like your willingness to experiment. You can see the trend of your lines tightening up. That's a sign of passion. Some people stagnate at one level or another because they don't want the next level enough. Keep that desire. -
What principle is that? Not fixing your mistakes? I understand a desire to not create drama, but it seems he's putting too much stock in one set of his values for the situation.
I hope you can convince him, because I'd rather see someone new come in and add to the community than evacuate at the first sign of trouble. If what you say is true then he can probably recover over time. Until then, you may miss him. I don't.
Also, any new poster has to accept that Suichiro will haze the newbies... and the vets too actually. -
Wow. I didn't know it until he posted those two little emoticons, but you walked right into that one. Props to DarkEther.

You? Disagree with someone? Surely you jest!
I would delete it on principle. Or edit in a long waxed moustache, black eye, and horns... and nipple clamps. -
You sure do have a nice collection growing Attache. Nice finds.

Just read it fully. Why did you apologize at all LJ? His ramble was annoying. The no and no post was grating. The deleted post (which I remember and won't go into detail because the mods wanted it gone) was a black-ball for me.
-
I skimmed over it because all of his posts got so long-winded - especially the one about not having time to post a response. That baffled me, but the drama he was talking about is more what I was failing to find. Not what he created.
Quote:All in all I think there were several points of over reaction and not just by TJ... But for me the most telling aspect is who has tried to fix the situation and who has gone to bury their head in the sand. Wanting to avoid drama is all fine and dandy but the drama has been caused and remnants only remain because some people can't man up and accept an apology... -
I've looked at that thread a couple of times at the posts mentioned, and have yet to find any drama. I saw some of the most tame overreactions on the boards. No shock and awe instilled in me. Take your apologies back. At least stop. And really LJ. Just refresh six times a minute like the rest of us. My philosophy is any feedback is a gift, whether the art is a gift or not. Expect nothing.

Damnit! My dishwasher broke and I got sidetracked. One disassembled Rube Goldberg appliance later I learned that it was my garbage disposal installation.
-
Really cool! What did you use to make it? I assume it's an expensive program.

More proof that you should include the gift receipt in the box.
Happy Mother's Day Mom!
On the subject, I got her an external hard drive because she does her business out of her home and kills computers, but was thinking of recommending her an offsite data storage service in case of emergency. Anybody know a good one? -
I say bring the top of her forward thigh out. Thicker. It's fantastic though. Very 80's, very sexy, and very good. You have all rights to be proud of this.

I like the original, and the second the best. I agree that the compositions are very strong. I think one thing you could try to convey the envy more strongly is, on the first one, to put the warden's fists on his hips. He can still have the squeegie in hand (that seems to be important to you and a very nice touch). Put the emotion in his body and I think it would be pretty strongly conveyed.
Edit: and wow! That comrade hero gift is looking incredible! -
Thanks fox rox! I fixed it up yesterday and sent it off to my art teacher as part of my portfolio. The photo above reflects the changes. Now I'm off to try something in the style of Degas as my final project.

Quote:What good names are left that haven't already been used? I'm always surprised that they can even come up with new comic characters given all the names that have been taken.
I know I was so upset when I found out Stilt Man had already been created.
That and finding out there is a crappy Liefeld creation called Bloodwulf. Yeah, that ruined my day. -
I've never met a person that's not an expert on human anatomy. It's why the human figure takes years to draw perfectly. Everyone can spot the slightest mistake.
You're right, the space between the nose and upper teeth is too long, and the chin a little too long too. The crest of the brow, the part you headbutt things into submission with, is also a little too prominent in my opinion. -
Okay, I just looked through my oldest pieces on deviantart. My new favorite memory is all the pats on the head I got. If it weren't for the kind words and encouragement I wouldn't be where I am. And boy were you guys kind...

That's a good point Caemgen. That's probably close to the least effective range for a bow. Halfway through I thought it should be a from a low perspective with her closer to the viewer, but then how do I get her face?
And thanks Powerstream! The painted look is exactly what I'm striving to reach with digital stuff. I agree with her lighting. I've got to get it through my head to do backgrounds first. It makes lighting things a lot easier.
I'm also interested in what people think about the fire itself. I couldn't find a tutorial I liked, so I experimented.
On a self-promoting note, I have another non-coh piece to share because I am so proud of it. It's a skull study for my art class.
Click on the picture for the DA page and a small explanation of the process I used to make it. I also have a few other pictures on there in the same style if anyone likes the charcoal look.
P.S. Let me know if these pictures are too big.
