=====================
Even among a 'City of Heroes', CapeMike, or 'CM' to his friends, is something of an enigma; not an anti-hero, but he often pays strikingly little attention to any collateral damage he may cause during missions and battles either until it's far too late, or until well after a battle's conclusion.
Most believe this is due to the fact that he hails from a dimension where Earth as we know it doesn't quite exist, instead coming from a planet simply known as 'OtakuWorld'; the few Paragon denizens who've visited his world and not been left speechless have reported that it is essentially every single anime cliche ever invented rolled into one and given physical form; mecha, giant spaceships, moon-bases in orbit, anthromorphic creatures, and countless 'nameless Otaku'(as in 'extras') are as commonplace as small towns and 'burgs here on Paragon-Earth!
...as a result, he's been heard referring to Paragon City as 'borderline boring', and commenting on the 'lack of conspicously placed explosions'; nonetheless, he still enjoys a good fight, but it doesn't take much to goad him into a battle in which even he is clearly overmatched!
A master of numerous forms of armed and unarmed combat, he seems to heavily favor Shotokan-style karate, Tai-Jitsu, Tai Kwan Do, and Professional Wrestling moves, with his sometimes alarming speed only allowing viewrs to see a blur as he switches from one style to another, often multiple times in the course of a single fight....
Despite his lethality in combat, he seems to have a near-constant upbeat outlook on life, often taunting his opponents one second, taking a verbal potshot at an ally the next, then going right back to his opponent...; but even he seems to have a reserved side to him. He's been known to speak well of those who've defeated him in a fight, only to turn around and begin plotting for an 'unfortunate accident' to befall them minutes later! Few know if this borderline schizophrenic behaviour is an act, or if he really -IS- that crazy.
He places a very high value on honor and friendship; you have a friend for life once you've earned him as an ally, but those who've betrayed him or turn on him can expect a wrath quite like no other to visit them VERY soon.
===========================
In summary, CapeMike can be written as if he were from an episode of 'Excel Saga' or 'The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumia', meaning lots of exaggerated takes, action...and explosions.... -
Now I just wanna find the song they used in that vid for my playlists....
-
...it's a Guild Wars vid I stumbled across and THIS goes beyond all belief...just...freakin'....WOW....

Here is something I did today for a very good client of mine...
Halley's Comet Manga
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, I'm loving that!
Also, NewEden, your chibi-art(also known as 'SD', for Super-Deformed) is pretty cute too! If you've got room for CapeMike, lemme know! -
Can't wait to see GB's stuff, and I -LOVE- that Lady Jade piece, too! ...course it helps I'm very partial to the color green....
Thinking of having art done of my Scrapper, CapeMike...I can't draw at -all-, but I've been writing about his (mis)adventures since 1997; hailing from an anime-themed world where literally anything can(and often does) happen, this martial arts super-speedster has the unfortunate habit of letting his mouth get ahead of his brain, and often at the worst possible moment!
Despite his eccentricites, he's actually far smarter than he lets on, and his loyalty to his friends is unquestioned; his crazy act is mostly that, done to keep the spirits of his friends up, often at his own expense!
Here's a link to the only decent front-angle shot I've got of him at the moment....

Always ogling the wonderful art here and, with but a few exceptions, see very few manga-themed art-pieces...not complaining, just pointing that out....
What I'm getting at is that if any of the artists here -can- draw in this style, preferrably leaning towards the comedic, could you perhaps post a link or 2 to said work?
Why do I ask this? Let's just say I'm...window shopping....
-
Two thumbs WAAAAAAY up on this one....
-
Everybody wins in this little deal....
Not long ago, I discovered some very funny movies on newgrounds.com, animated and co-created by the young lady who's DeviantArt site is here
http://crazylegz42.deviantart.com
I contacted her and suggested an idea for the next animation she's working on; to my somewhat surprise, she liked it enough to work it in!
As a way of thanks for using my idea, I thought I'd let everyone know that she's pretty good, and quite willing to do art trades and possibly commissions, so if you work a deal out with her, tell her CapeMike sent 'ya!

Gotta relink this one that I had a few days ago since it fits so well into this theme....

*shakes head* no no no it's "Look what I can do!"
[/ QUOTE ]
Sure it's not "Hey, y'all, watch this?"
(Though seeing the picture, what came to mind was "The Council Empire's rendition of 'Swan Lake' did not go over as well as expected...")
[/ QUOTE ]
Hehe...I like 'em all so far, but the Swan Lake reference is JUST out in front so far...keep 'em coming! -
No way I could NOT put this pic up for everyone....

And my own caption for it....
"I said 'Boot TO the head', not -ON- it!!"
-
Bwahahaahahahahaha *5 minutes later* hahahahahahahaha!!
Oh yeah...next time they have a movie contest, you just KNOW there's gonna be some serious competition this time around.... -
Whoohoo, Sparky strikes again!!
Now make with issue 11 of the comic, already! *runs* -
*meanwhile, back at the ranch scene switch*
A short time (and a lot of Advil) later finds CapeMike and Romathom in Pocket D....
"...and that, Romy, is why we don't interrupt people when they're coming up with hackeneyed schemes to rule the world someday!"
Romathom just shook his head; "Just like how we don't announce said plans out loud in a bar and-"
"Boot to the head!" -THWAP-
"GWAH!!!! ...point taken, CM...ever though of switching to decaf??" -
...completley different....
Basically, I'm hoping this will be a purely comedy-based RP thread...think something along the lines of Monty Python meets Excel Saga(anime), and the 2 collide with Bobobo-Bo bo-Bobo(anime) at Mach-3 and you'll get the idea....
Fourth Wall? Not likely to mean much here.... Continuity? Lip-service for the most part.... Sheer wackiness and fun? Go for it!
And while the mis-adventures will be in Paragon City and the Rouge Isles, playing fast and loose with the rules will, I think, make for a more entertaining read, so, without any further to do....

Previously, on OtakuWars!...

...oops, wrong script.... *a shuffling of papers can be heard*
...meanwhile, back at the ranch.... *more shuffling*
...oh no! Is this the end of our dynamic duo? Will they stop the Joker in time? Will they save the city? Will I stop asking stupid questions? Will-

The management of this post would like to inform you that the narrator of this thread has been sacked...; the thread will now continue in a way that we hope was originally intended....
...
"...are you quite done, now?"
Yeah, CapeMike, we're good to go...you sure you know what you're doing?
"Pssh! 'Course I do! I'm CapeMike!! The great and mighty Scrapper! Well, except that time Scirocco waxed me in RV last week...ouch...I'm still feeling that one-"
Um...can we move on? I'm sure others would want to get in on this....
"Oh yeah...oops...." *sweatdrop*
...
...
...
"...hehe...poor saps...little do they know that once they're in, my subliminal messages will bend them to my will, enabling me to use them in my ultimate scheme to conquer the world! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA-"
Um...CM? Um...that's a clever plan and all, but...um...we're still on....
"What??!? Lemme see that...........well, SON OF A BIT-"

To be continued....
A Writer's Guide to CapeMike coming shortly.... -
Probably mentioned, but I'd -LOVE to see the classic 'Double Deuce', made legendary by StrongBad at homestarruner.com !
-
Downloading the 1st story now as an mp3...don't own an IPod, and with a Sony PSP, I don't actually NEED one....
In any case, this is a pretty neat idea, and I'm wondering why no-one else thought of it sooner, 'least of all, me!
Why don't you do some sort of contest where the winners get to appear in another audio-story or something? -
I've written short stories in the past...had a few nearly reach novella length, and I've seen CoH/CoV as an endless source of potential material to work with....
But a very flighty attention span, coupled with constant indeciseivness has all but crippled any writing I could do...; so I turn to you, the fellow players out there for advice and suggestions!
I've currently got several story ideas in my head, but am not sure which I want to focus on writing 1st, so I thought I'd fly the basic idea for each by you all and see which captures your interest most...I'll post more details on both at a later date if need be....
The top 4 ideas I presently have all involve my MA/SR Scrapper, CapeMike, with him starring or co-starring in 3 of them and making a lesser appearance in the 4th:
The 1st story idea dates back to July of '05 and, at least in my head, is the 2nd most 'finished'; CapeMike has a run-in with Pinnacle's own Red Saviour II during a SuperGroup 'congress' of sorts; before anyone knows what's really happened, the 2 end up in the arena for a best of 3 duel...the 2nd match will be the main focus of the story, and it's all based on actual events!
Idea 2 is a pure slapstick comedy, featuring a series of short 'skits' in the vein of Saturday Night Live involving CapeMike and his longtime ally, Demon-Stalker, getting themselves into all kinds of wacky mis-adventures over the course of a few days in-game....
Idea 3 again stars CapeMike with another ally, Romathom;as the 2 are constantly striving to one-up each other's fighting skills, what happens when something goes terribly wrong, placing the better part of an entire zone in imminent danger?
Idea 4 stars one of my lesser used, but most beloved alts, MakoType-824, an Invuln/Energy Tanker; a creation of CapeMike and an ally from his home dimension, this 'Technorganic' being is neither human nor machine, yet also -both-; the 2005 Holiday events feature heavily in this story when Mako is called in to help rescue presents from Arachnos' grip...things won't quite go as expected for anyone!
And there you have it...advice and suggestions here, in private messages, and via ingame or real email are welcomed! I'll update things soon! -

The plumage don't enter -into- it! She's -dead!- -
I'd come up with something for CapeMike's backstory, or how he got here...but that would require me to explain where he came from in the 1st place, which was a 7-YEAR long MUD/RPG/Add-your-own-chapter hybrid that ran mostly on a newsgroup...and we'd be here FOREVER with even a summary....
...nonetheless, I'll see what I can cook up.... -

Part of the text at the bottom is obscured, but reads 'Artwork - 2005 by Amy Mebberson'
Amy is a longtime friend of mine who has a webcomic you should read(Blatant plug) at www.asifcomic.com
The flavor text refers to a story that's been in the planning stages for nearly a year now that tells the tale of the dimension/world where my Scrapper originally hails from and it's darkest hour...tentatively titled 'OtakuWars! The Movie: Last Stand'.
With a little luck...and some encouragement to get off my [censored]...I'll actually have a presentable 'trailer' ready for reading soon...could also use beta-readers, too, hint-hint.... -
I've never had any problems with the old Sonics effects(aside from disliking the audio fx of one or two abilities), and honestly, I haven't noticed any differences at all with these changes...of course, having gamed for 30 years now(I'm 33), I've pretty much seen it all as far as trippy effects go(Rez[the game], anyone?)....
As for I5 changes, gameplay-wise, I'm all for them...it's made my 26 Ill/Kin Controller more entertaining to play, my 36 MA/SR Scrapper seems to have even -more- resistance to holds now(8 Devouring Earth mushrooms? I fart in your general direction!), and my 50 Energy/Devices Blaster only needed a slight change in strategy(waiting for stealth effect on Cloaking Device to reassert itself after tossing a Smoke Grenade)...all-in-all, another nice update, with my only real complaint being some weird lag blips and spikes in the days following last week's multiple-server crashes....
