Quote:Very true Carnifax, and the spirit, while it may be there, is not easily provable to most people, much less scientists unwilling to continue looking. For the record, I believe in a soul, and like many other religions, I do not think that only humans have souls. If we go any deeper though, this thread will be deleted. And what exactly do you believe you are running on, you little collection of electrical impulses and soup of miscellaneous organic compounds?
By the way Chase, they have done studies proving that plants are aware of themselves and their surroundings. Obviously some more than others. -
I doubt it will be any good. I never liked the original TV series myself, and they can't make a Hulk in the theatre with mass appeal. Personally I liked the Ang Lee Hulk better than Norton's take on David Banner. That rift exists in the fan base here as well.

Quote:This. There should be no contest here.I have absolutely no interest in Jackass 3D while I might make a rare trip to the theater to see Red. I think Red looks like a fun movie and I'm hoping it will have more box office appeal than a movie about a bunch of idiots doing idiotic things. And I'm hoping the public has a much higher opinion of Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, and Helen Mirren than they do of Michael Cera.
Plus it's not like 3D sells all that well for live action films. -
Quote:I would hope the hero would play it safe. Defending the populace is very important, and just because you can dodge bullets or they bounce off your chest, does not mean the people around you are safe. That assumes the hero in question has foreknowledge of what the villain he is facing is capable of dishing out. There's also the where, when, and how the encounter. The hero may not be in any danger but can the same be said for any civilians in the nearby vicinity? The machine gun ricochets that are careening off of the superheroes chest could easily kill several innocent by accident.
Over all Forbin, I agree with what you said. It adds nicely to what I said. Even still, I am not sure that a hero should be going for the kill against someone that is unknown unless there is no other choice. It reminds me of Spider-man vs Wolverine, and how Peter launched a back hand that killed Charlie because he thought it was Wolverine and was reacting on instinct. When a hero faces a new villain, it's not wise to go all out on the offensive until you have an idea as to what they can take. -
Whether a person becomes a hero or villain with super powers depends on so many variables it is pitiful.
What are their powers?
Did others get powers?
Do they have a way to survive without resorting to crime?
What is their psychological mindset?
Is there a way to market their powers?
Take me.
With Super strength, I doubt my life would change, unless I could take a hit as well.
With teleportation, yeah I would become a thief. I would not become a murderer. Heck, I would even try to save lives when I could. Depending on my range, I would possibly become an explorer.
With invisibility, I would become a villain, hands down, and I might even go through the government to do so.
As a shapeshifter, I would become an actor. The man of a 1000 faces, literally.
With Kryptonian powers, I would do my best to end the threat of world war, knowing that it's impossible until the world itself wants that.
With savant abilities, or super intelligence, I would start by selling vehicles to the US military with the following modifications; a new fuel source to cut the dependance on fossil fuels, improved protective capabilities to protect the troops, and then, subdual only weapons. With that money I would branch into other fields, such as ending world hunger, and cleaning up what passes as medicine in this country. From there, I would work on finding a way to terraform Mars and Venus, and get colonists to both planets.
What you have details how you would react. -
When a cop is in a situation where someone raises a gun to them, they are trained to shoot to kill. No questions asked. They can not take the chance that the perp is using blanks, or faking it. They have to protect their lives, and the lives of the people around them. Thus, a deputized hero would face a similiar conundrum.
Where the difference lies is in the statement "When under duress of life." A hero may be able to take more than a cop. If said villain can dish it out, then I understand taking the life, but if Stiltman went up against Ironman, I doubt Tony would when a court case by saying he felt he was in danger of his life. Superman often falls prey to this situation, when a common thug points a gun at him, and the gun is loaded with a krptonite bullet.
When a hero takes on a villain, how much danger are they in? Can they stop the criminal without being injured? How about without the villain injuring an innocent bystander? If they can't, then they should use what ever force they can muster to stop the villain.
There is a line when taking a life is necessary. Anyone that feels otherwise is fooling themselves. -
Every now and again, I will help. At equal levels it is fine to occasionally street hunt, but I found that street hunting is often needless XP when you are trying to see content/get merit badges. At higher levels, some mobs will be attacked if that toon particularly dislikes them, or the civvies say something that amuses me. I know when I am killing for badges, i go out of my way to take certain mobs on.
Since they stand around and do nothing when I scare the mobs, I pretty much think the civvies get what they deserve at times, or when I am saving cops from mobs. I mean, if you are so low in level you can't deal with those mobs, why in Dog's Name are you stationed in the jurisdiction? For that matter, what wisehat allows civvies into hazard zones to work any how, when a low level toon was once blocked from that zone? I should not be rescuing office workers in the middle of the RWZ.
As for the civvies in the Mayhem missions.... I still think the devs played dirty pool with that one. Though, they are targets for the life drain powers. -
Depends on my powers, but over all, yes I would lean towards self gratification. COuld I be a villain? In the strictest interpetation, yes. I do believe in using one's powers to change the world for their own benefit, as well as the worlds benefit, and no, both are not the same.

I was about average with everyone else.
#7 with loved ones being more for so long does not surprise me. When it comes down to strangers and loved ones, most people would choose their loved ones everytime. -
Thanks Marcian. That was a fun quiz. The 50% chance was the interesting one for me.
Mrs. Arachnia wants an option for a secret id so secret, even she does not know it. -
Only 10 days for the event. That's kind of disappointing. I will barely get any time with it due to work.

Quote:This may be true, but...Oh look another "Micheal Bay ***** my childhood" thread.
Know what?
TRANSFORMERS WAS A THIRTY MINUTE TOY COMMERCIAL BY HASBRO, NOTHING MORE.
It had no plot, it had no real rhyme nor reason except giant robots beating the **** out of each other.
Bay's Transformers are 2hr long GM/Chevy commercials. Bigger toys for bigger boys :P
Personally I don't go watch Transformers (Never have watched it for) deep plot twists and haute cinema. Even when I was a kid it was "COOL BIG ROBOTS I WANT THAT ROBOT MOM MOM MOM I WANT THE CONSTRUCTACONS!!!" I didn't give a **** about the plot. Big Robots Make things go kaboom. Plot..end.
Transformers never had, and never WILL have a very deep existential plot line. 30 minute toy commercial, that's all it ever was. Damn good toy commercial though.
I care nothing for the G1 Transformer tv show and GI Joe, and I admit to watchiing and enjoying both at the time.
I do care for the G1 comics of both series, which is where they got me interested. (I suppose I should say the 80's GI Joe comic for them. They had been out for some time.) I like Transformers 1, I liked the action of Transformers 2. I did not care for the Twins, Wheelie, or the potty jokes out of a elementary schools handbook, thinking the jokes were funny. They were not. -

Quote:I was trying to be nice lol..(And just for the record I do feel that Joephisto needss to be beaten witin an inch of his life, taken to a hospital to get better, then beaten again)
As for the Scarlet Widow comment.
I did a search for Scarlet Widow comics..
*blush*
Don't do that. -
Can someone give me a quick synopsis? How does the story relate to the cartoon series in regards to canon?

Quote:As a player that does not use Stamina, or health really, I am still going to get hit with this due to the fact that I use the Hurdle/Swift powers, depending on what travel power I take. All those toons that use it will need a respec lol.COMEUPPANCE! *Evil laughter*
I always told people that Stamina is not a vital organ; that they should be looking for ways to play the game that don't always assume that power at level 20 on every single freaking character.
But nooo, what did they say? "Not enough blue! Gotta have more forever! Stamina is good and the only thing that's truly bad is not taking it!"
I was tickled with glee the moment I realized so many people with their hordes of blue-barring, cookie-cutter characters would be sentenced to an eternity of respecification.
And what powers will be taken in their place? Ah, there are three, yet there are no slots to allocate for them. Either something needs to be removed from other powers, or the three power choices are utter throwaways just like they were in the past. It's a lose-lose!
*Cackles maniacally while lightning flashes in the background* -
Quote:I agree. All my toons that are not throw away, (Throw away toons are made with base filling, or co-op missions from the holiday events that require both factions.) get a bio before I leave the tutorial. Actually, usually before they enter the tutorial.Odd. I find it an interesting challenge to write a bio in the limited space. That is why I do things outside of the normal narrative with things like original poetry, article clippings, interviews, stream of consciousness, or just about anything else.
And I won't play a character that doesn't have a bio... so ALL of my characters have a bio written in by the time they hit about Level 4 (with rare exception).
On another note, I think it would be cool to have pictures to go along with some of these, because I find visuals are often key in making the character bio really make sense.
And Dark Respite, I agree with Sam. You are a very talented woman. -
Thanks Willow.
I will have to arrange for a few sessions. With the new Praetorians, I am sure someone needs the pieces, and I desire nothing for helping. -
