  1. You have offically inspired my creation of an Energy/Devices blaster

Boom and doom baby! I only wish i could attack my own time bomb :[

*places bomb, backs up, snipes bomb* I've run this tactic in Call of duty with bouncing bettys and it's a riot when used against un-aware snipers; extreme counter-sniping >

This, just about sums up my life as an Energy/Energy Blaster. He even has whirlwind to boot!

My life is a blaster is that of a glass ARMADA.
When i see a group, I fire all of my cannons full force and send them reeling.
When my cannons are re-loading I'm up in their face for some on the edge melee. Nothing is more fufilling than a point blank power burst to the face of a target. Some people say that's crazy, I say BRING IT!

Although a blaster always walks that fine line between face down or face up, they are a force to be reckoned with. Hell, my blaster faceplants faster then a dead koala falling out of a tree, but that never stops him.

Death is my weapon, and my ultimate tool. By dying, i provide myself with recon, and a new target for the next volley from my armada. By dying, I prevented the angry mobs from hitting my team-mates before me. By dying, I learn how to truly SURVIVE!

    and personally?
@Omega, Stone, AIB, Sep, Kyo, Sword, Blaze, Pete, and Kat. Shout out for protector!

    Goods:
    1. Just about anything. Peacebringers and 'Shades are especially welcome ^_^
    2. Lots of veteran badges

    Bads:
    1. Bad communicator
    2. Fails to respond to basic interaction (Implies not listening)

    Unbearable:
I swear I want to plunge an axe into my own skull when I team with someone, usually a new player, who says "omg we're unstoppable", "we're so strong" or "We're SOOO AWESOME" every time a mob is defeated.
  4. I'll be there for skyrim! and as many others that i can fit into (if i am of level)
  5. And maybe nova form is good to take because it's fun :P

I love the knockback from it! My first character was an energy/energy blaster, then my second was my peacebringer. So it was a great transition.

Sorry, that was a bit unclear. By "market" i meant wentworths/Black market. You can get a recipe for a "stun grenade" temporary power. It's pretty useful for annoying enemies, and it's a targeted AoE as well. (if you're a free player, sadly you can't access the invention system.)

Since you're level six, check the Wentworth's right next to the AE building. Once you have the recipe, and the salvage needed for it. Go to the south end of steel canyon (from the train) and the university where you can craft your recipes will be right there.

Another notable detail about nova form is that it gives a damage and to-hit boost to all of your nova attacks. It's around 50-60% damage increase (don't quote me on that I dont remember exactly at the moment) and the to-hit is good as well.

Aside from that, the nova attacks have pretty good range, so you can easily fly above a group, or across the room and hit them from afar before they can get to you.

I find this strategy very useful for nova form.
    EDIT:
    1. Use emanation on the center of a group, hit the guy inthe back for maximum targets
    2. use detonation on the center of the group to scatter them
    3. Single targets to clean up

When you reach the correct level, GRAB GRAVITY WELL. Aside from the superior damage, it's a single target hold. This basically makes voids a thing of the past

As a interesting side note for costumes. If you use the fire extinguisher temporary power, then turn into a nova. You get a bright yellow backpack.

it's a post from the Kheldian Fridays thread, but it shouldn't be to hard to see.

I have to get that lol thanks.
  13. I can vouch for mace mastery, and also the Fire and Force Mastery Epic Pools.

Mace is great for an up close and personal blaster. With it you can softcap your S/L defenses, along with weave and maneuvers.
    • My only complaint is that mace mastery currently is bugged, preventing you from editing your costumes while you have the pool

Fire mastery has some good resistances, with tough it's easily capp'd at 45% S/L. For a ranged player it's also good to have due to bonfire and char. Both are handy mitigation abilities. Rise of the Phoenix is fantastic for a blaster, especially if you faceplant often. It provides that rewarding "HAH!" when your body explodes and you emerge to crush the ones who wronged you.
    • It's also notable that bonfire can juggle (bounce in place) large enemies, like malta robots.

Force mastery is great for a blaster at any range. It has "Force of nature" which is a great godmode click that lasts 2 minutes. The targeted aoe power is good for flooring mobs, and personal force field provides that perfect "oh crap" button. It beyond softcaps your defenses making you nearly un-hittable in a common battle situation.

It all depends on your playstyle.

    Well said!
  15. I'll admit, I do like your blaster suggestions, but they need a bit more thought before posting.

For a blaster, Earth manipulation would be very fun.

For example, Stone spears from the Dom Assault set would be a nice tier 1 power. Like power thrust from /EM.

A cone blast could be "Shard Strike" where you do something similar to the cyronic judgment power.

Overall, an interesting concept...just needs a bit more thought rather than copy+pasting of other enemies abilities/themes.
  16. Sorcery blast...no, It's to limited to a specific origin.

    Sorcery manipulation...no, again to limited.

In designing a power, you have to account for EVERY character origin. Not just the power you think "would be cool."

Now, a better suggestion would be an alternate animation for the non-weapon blasts. This could be fashioned like the "Blackwand" vet power. So if i wanted an energy wand, fire wand, sonic wand, or ice wand I could have it.

I personally LOVE the blackwand vet power, just the pure aesthetics of it make me wish I could get a fire wand for my fire/dark blaster.

This way, if you want mage powers you pick the large wand animation rather than wastefully begging for a new powerset that won't happen.

I take back everything bad I ever said about Stalkers. This...Dear LORD this AT is bad...
Are you using your form abilities? Bright nova, dwarf? Are you human only?

There seems to be no real point to the OP other than complaining about an AT you don't exactly understand. If you want some help, tell us how you play and we can tell you what you're doing wrong :P

It all depends how you are playing with them. They require a certain mindset and finesse to be powerful. A Kheldian is a toolbox, you can't just run in and kill everything like any other AT. You have to think about the tools you have and use them accordingly. The learning curve is steep, but once you get the hang of it it's well worth it.

If you're playing it like "any other AT" you're doing it wrong. Cause at those levels my peacebringer could easily solo +0/x1....without enhancements..

And how is "recharge slow resistance" a punishment? I absolutely hate getting my recharge debuffed by those blasted web grenades, and working with other EATs makes that not work as well :P Sounds like a bonus to me.

I'm only level 4, but I looked at the Paragon Wiki and it doesn't seem Warshades get much more to combat these guys. They're specifically designed to make my life miserable.

Am I missing something? I often only get 2-3 shots in before I'm at the hospital. I'm only level 6 now, and not looking forward to level 10+.

I've got a Brute, Scrapper, Blaster and Widow and none are such a PITA to play.
I can say from experience, once you grab gravitic emination and gravity well voids become laughable. Combined with shadow cloak, you can turn invisible walk up to a void, instantly hold him with superior damage, and kill him without getting hurt.

If you don't want to wait for that, buy a stun grenade temp power from the market and chuck it at voids whenever you see fit.

Warshades WILL get better. In huge bursts, my 'shade can laugh off most opponents. Even voids. It's just silly how insanely strong they get later in the game.

Also, if you're not into making temp powers. Just fill up with a couple purples before a mission. I like stun grenades though because they help with other pesky enemies.

    On another note.

  21. I can vouch for Willpower/ Tanks.

My WP/TW tank finds little use for it. I've proc'd out my Titan Sweep, Arc of Descruction, and Whirling smash with cheap force feedback:Chance for +Recharge procs. Basically everytime I go into a momentum burst I get a chance to gain a maximum of 300% recharge for a short time.

On characters that aren't aiming for Perma. I find it as a useful "save me" power when my powers are so small that I can barely see them...this usually happens when I'm slammed with a slew of slow powers (*Arachnos*COUGH*) >:|

Its a shame, because there's nothing else like it that i've played thus far. It's a blasttt!

And on terms of your costume question. My PBs usually tend to be angelic, while my 'Shades will end up with a rogue type of costume, usually having chains on the chest/arms, CoT shoulders, A tattered cape, and the mouth/shoulder wrap detail (I think its called reaper? idk)

I might have understood the issues if Masterminds came out when the game first came out. Back then It took much longer and was much harder to get to 50. Today I have a 2 week old TW EA that is at 33. I think my first 50 toon 5 months to level to 50 and I had much more play time back then. My point is all this useless complaining for nothing.

To me, it's not about mechanics. Mechanically, while there's some tricks to mitigate the problems, skipping the pet powers greatly reduces the combat power of the AT. Instead, it's about style and challenge.

Challenge-wise, it makes City of Heroes a hard game to succeed at. But it can be done. Using the best enhancements and frankenslotting IOs, adding uniques and procs, choosing power pool attacks and vet powers -- these all add up to that mitigation. You become a master of utility powers and these themselves are weak and demand creativity in their application. It demonstrates real skill at playing to succeed and thrive with a petless build.

Style-wise, it used to be one couldn't get pistols or a sci-fi rifle without a MM powerset; now, those are common, but you still can't fight with a whip without being an MM. There's a wide draw to this style and the character concepts it supports.

However, you will run into people who just can't understand why anyone would play for a non-mechanical-power reason, and who'll hold it against you. If this happens too much, and you still want the experience, there's the alternate build -- level up a basic pet-based MM build in there, and offer to switch if the team demands it. Or just leave that team.
You're totally getting the direction I want to head in. I could care less about DPS, or what AT is better. I'm doing this for a fun challenge....not to break the game Thanks for the feedback.

Here is the deal why I simply think you need to obtain defense cap. Your not going to wow them with damage. Consider yourself the Tortoise in the race. Slow and steady. This why I picked Traps, Time bomb though slow compared to other powers really does pack a nice punch when it goes off. I am guaranteed to kill a few mobs with every explosion and if it gets too busy or crazy I can just huddle down pop a few inspirations to cap out my defenses and resistances a bit more and slowly clear out mobs. I use this tactic when the pet runs off or I just get too much aggro. Pet drops off fast and it becomes too hard to drop down another FFG because they keep aggroing on the FFG.

Thematically just messing around real quick DS Dark with the Tier 2 pets might be cool. Sort of like a badass CoT.
Thanks for the tips I really did consider Traps as a secondary, but I couldn't fit it into my theme very well. Your feedback was SO helpful by the way. I've got a good idea of where I'd like to go, now I just have to make the build

    On terms of this thread:
I'm planning this character for a fun challenge. I don't care what kind of content I can't take on because I didn't pick pets. If i wanted to take on harder stuff, i would have asked for a Demon/______ Pet build, not a petless one.

All I care about with my characters is about how fun it is to play. Regardless of how it functions, if it gives me an awesome vibe, I'll be playing it. Even if it takes me a decade to kill a skull.

The whole pet deal isn't fun for me, but that demon whip power is. So that's why I'm doing this :P
