Quote:Having soft capped s/l defense will make it easy for you to be good at it (EDITIf it helps the blaster I have is a Fire/Dark, and I'm not much of a Blapper not because I don't like it, because I have a nag for ending up in the center of the fight. I'm just not very good at it.
if you're careful that is. A blaster in close range isn't strong without mitigation of his own to stop the baddies from mezzing you
Aside from that, for a fly-by strategy I'd go with ranged defense, simply because in close range dark pit and oppressive gloom will have powerful stuns. No need to worry about close range damage at that point.
Also, On my previous build I was able to softcap ranged defense, and get around 25% S/L for some extra protection, if that's more down your alley. -
Quote:That's an interesting idea: "Orbital strike"Maybe when summoning the bomb you get a pet bar on the screen with a nice detonate button to blow it at the right time... But would nicer to drop the bomb idea and replace with orbital cannon nuke as device holder have awesome romote to control weapon platform satalite
You could use an animation similar to the Blaster munitions debuff, with the little red targeter, and have a weaker version of the warworks TAoE power, with the cannon blasts raining from above.
Although, Redlynne's idea above is much more effective/useful...since traps is a set that is often used for planned assaults on a mob. The toggle off option would be much easier to plan with. -
Quote:I completely agree. For me Keeping Posi' around on my Human form 'Shade is a definite Y-E-S simply because I need lots of recovery to keep me trucking with all of my toggles. I'm not running for defense of anything like that, I just have extra energy resistance when eclipse is down or I'm under exemplar. This is probably the heart of the matter... we're coming from different perspectives and thinking about different kinds of builds. Sure, the KG set can enhance both (and I've used it), but a KG set helps a tri-form build more than a human form build. Maybe that's why we see things differently.
"Alien"
I play both sides of the table when it comes to my Kheldians, so i totally get what you're saying, and Dech's alike
Overall, it does kind of sadden me though. Pre-ATOs I've seen a lot of conversation about how forms are becoming "less relevent" and then the special "form buff" from KG comes into the works. It doesn't seem like a mere coincidence IMO...kind of like a half baked way to make forms "more desirable" so to speak. (I'm not saying that we have it bad either :P )
Otherwise, the set is useful with nice bonuses but strictly from a subjective standpoint. -
Quote:I can agree completely hereWell, you're two thirds of the way to an MFing Warshade. I really suggest the addition of Dwarf.
Seriously, Zwill, until you've taken that character to level 50, I will maintain that you have missed out on the most fun AT this game has to offer.Best AT i've ever played. Haven't been able to replicate the feeling that a 'shade brings to the table when fully "MF'd" out at level 50. :3

I have before "one shotted" an end mission Elite Boss that had no KB protection by setting up a stack of 20ish trip mines, stealthing behind it and setting up time bomb, and waiting for it to go off. The time bomb's kb tossed the EB onto the stack of trip mines and the huge explosion left a tiny tick of health on the EB. A single snap shot finished the EB off.
This, makes me want to try a /devices set, but I can't seem to get past the "pre-mine" stage :[ -
Quote:Then I guess you've never seem me use knockback THBKB griefs PBAOE's. KB griefs pulls. KB griefs self and group buffs like Fulcrum Shift, Eclipse, Drain Psyche, Soul Drain, AAO, etc. It does more harm than good in a team environment.
It's a great tool for both gathering enemies up, and incapacitating them. Think about it, if you're going to mire/souldrain/drain psyche it would be really helpful if i were to use energy torrent and basically shovel an entire mob into a corner for you. Theres no alpha strike for either of us, and you get a nice pile to saturate your buffs.
On terms of pulls, it only grief's if if you use it wrong. Say a tank is pulling an entire mob to himself. It really speeds things up if I use Torrent to KB the mob he is pulling RIGHT at him, so he gets a nice pile of bad guys on the floor right at his feet for him to start smashing.
Knockback isn't the problem, it's how the player uses it

Back to the OP:
Energy blast on blasters pairs VERY WELL with Energy manipulation and Soul Mastery (Red-Side.) With power boost, total focus, oppressive gloom, and bone smasher I can get a guaranteed stun on nearly any boss. (and on a few occasions those rikti magus' from the mothership raids.) Since you can use torrent to forcefully "herd" your enemy groups around, you can toss a whole group into a corner, then run in and stun the carp out of everything you stand near. -
Man, everyone is getting mad over numbers
Some people may find it better, some won't. Does it really matter that much for people to start "throwing punches" ?
For me, it would be a better set. Just because the enh values are better.
I didn't slot it on my human form 'shade, but I will be slotting it on my Tri-form PB.
For a human form, I'd have to say that Posi fits my perspective more, and for a tri-form. Kheldian's Grace all the way. -
Define: Deck out.
That could easily mean a number of different things
For example: To someone "Deck out" could mean putting 22s on a mini-van, but to me, it could mean a mini-fridge in a mini-van. -
Quote:Haha, yeah that's not the exact direction I'm looking to head in.Just so we're clear, a Ninjas Mastermind is out of the question, even though it gets three of the Archery powers?
Quote:I suggest an archery/dark corruptor. Or possible dark/archery on a defender.
You can just about cap, or get close to the cap, on ranged and smashing/lethal defense, and its easy to get aoe defense to 32 or higher. That doesnt even take darkest night into account. Then, the resist debuff is a long duration slow patch so you can just set it down and then simply shoot shoot shoot, and on the corruptor, scourge away!
Plus youd have all the controls and the heal etc for versatility.

Quote:Much like elec melee with lightning rod on scrappers, I can't imagine playing archery on any AT besides blasters, because RoA is so amazing on blasters. The best secondaries, as mentioned, would be EM or MM. EM for a pure ranger, and MM for lots of survivability.
_____________
Aside from that:
I've narrowed it down to a Dark/Archery Defender, or a Archery/MM Blaster. -
Hey everybody!
So I've been deeply craving an /Arrows/ character, But I'm not sure what to pair it with, or what Archetype it will work well for :[
I've already attempted a Arch/Dev, and an Arch/Fire blaster and neither worked well for me. I'm a blaster-holic so on terms of ranged attacks that's always my "go-to" AT, but I'm wondering if i'm missing out on ranged ATs.
What other pairings/ATs/ have worked well for you guys on terms of having /Archery/ as a ranged set?
EDIT: I'm not looking for a specific build yet since I'm on my mac, and don't have access to mids :[ So any suggestions are welcome -
Quote:How long ago did they change this? Back before i took a leave of absence I remember voids/quantums being a terror...but im not sure if it was ever that bad.If it makes you feel any better, back in the day the Voids/Quantums used to deal unresistable damage to khelds. What this meant was that instead of being a mild annoyance in low levels due to their stun/knockback ability, they were a genuine threat at all levels. (And Shadow Cysts used to mean your team was probably about to wipe.)

Quote:If you're having some trouble in the lower levels I have something that might help, if you want to take another stab at a 'Shade.Jeremia_Bane and Stone Daemon, thank you both for your replies, it did clarify a lot of things.
I think Warshade just isn't my cup of tea. I just can't bother to try and fight another Quantum. I'll park the character on the last slot of the character select screen, and maybe revisit him when I've levelled some of my other characters and have more experience.
If you have access to CoH: going Rogue, you can sneak into preatoria through pocket D and take advantage of the "double xp" patrol day job (if its still there). You'll get double xp for killing bad guys on the streets. It will get you to dwarf form quickly with the advantage of Sunless mire, and nova form.
1. Jump into a large group
2. Mire
3. Fly UP and out of range to blast with your AoE's.
4. Easy double xp gained -
Personally I'd love to have a team with two tanks, well good ones at least.
I remember running with my only tank (wp/tw) on a mission team with some friends. There was another tank on the team, so naturally I let him take the lead because I'm new to the art of tanking.
I acted as the "off tank." While the main player sopped up the alpha strike, I sat back and acted as a dividing wall between the anchor (main tank) and the squishies. If anything got past him, it wouldn't get past me.
Two smart/focused tanks is always good to have. When the team depends on one tank, good or bad, there is a chance that this one tank could mess up and wipe out the whole team; with a second tank, the holes can be patched before the whole team is annihilated.
It's also helpful to have an off tank situation like mine for ambushes and extra aggro via a misplaced AoE attack, or a badly aimed/accidental critter being KB'd into another mob. -
Quote:I like the Nova Nuke idea...that or Add in a chain induction style power for some more AoE Goodness :3I would be cool with giving Nova some variation of Defiance but the catch would have to be that Dark Sustenance no longer works in Nova form, and I'm not sure if that's worth it for the level up phase.
My top suggestion for making Nova relevant is making Quasar (and the inferior Kheldian's nuke) into a crashless Nova form power doing comparable damage to the Dual Pistols nuke. Once shortened animations and toggle suppression happen (they will happen,) you'd be a fool not to take Nova.
I really wish I could get a power like that outside of /elec/ and judgment.
EDIT: I'd call it "Luminous Entanglement"
(based off the quantum entanglement theory :P ) -
I kind of want both, having my average sized player make such a flashy-high knockback stomp made me giggle madly. I absolutely love it, and for dwarf...it just makes more sense to have it as a stomp (theme wise)

Quote:Okay okay, you got me. I slipped :PNo, he mentioned focusing on ranged defense, so I think that he really thinks that there is a softcap for resistance. >.>
By softcap I mean 45ish% resistance, I know there isn't a softcap for that...i just don't think before i type
When i think 45% softcap is the first word that comes to mind...so i type it :P haha
EDIT: Fix'd by the way. -
In terms of strictly playstyle, are you more of a close range player, a long range player or a kite (meaning you tend to bounce between both.) Personally, I am a Kite. I use Knockback to eliminate the alpha strike, then jump in for melee damage while they're flopping around.
From my experience I've found that a Nrg/nrg/Soul blaster is extremely affective for this type of strategy.
Most of your powers have a chance to stun, and with power boost, it greatly increases that chance. Combined with oppressive gloom in soul mastery you will stun any minions + lts. without ever targeting them, and you can stun bosses (and EBS, if you have Spiritual alpha slotted) with your single target attacks....that's WITHOUT including the power "stun" itself.
I've worked out a decent build that's 45% to s/l resistances with only two toggles, and has weave for some extra defense. I specifically worked towards range defense in my set bonuses..right now it's around 40%.
This holds things together very well for me in combat. The energy sets in general have a lot of single target attacks, so when enemies are stunned in close range...I don't need to defend against them. With this I can ST mop-up any stunned targets (1-2 shots) and the people who wander out of my ultimate stun radius, are hitting me with ranged attacks...which i built to defend against.
(I also took aid self, and 6 slotted it to bring back 50% HP)
The only problem is being stunned/held...which toggles off my Oppressive gloom, so i just pop a break-free before combat to hold myself together.
With this strategy, I often pop power boost, fling off a well placed energy torrent, sending a mob into a wall or obstacle where they can pile together. Then I jump in with OP to stunn them before they get up, and ST mop-up begins.
Then Rinse + Repeat. -
Quote:Just to point something out. My peacebringer uses the "Polar Lights" lore pets...which essentially are wisps with bright nova's ranged attacks. If they simply took the seeker animation and rigged it for a polar light...a PB would essentially have it's own "Extracted essence" so to speak.Right, right. The Extracted Essences definitely do more damage than Photon Seekers. Probably because they don't feel the need to go all suicidal as soon as an enemy's in range.
In all seriousness, the nature of the pets is inherent to their damage disparity. I'd be for the Devs taking another pass at Seekers and seeing what could be done to make them more on par with Essences.
You could summon one at a time as well, just like essences. -
Quote:So true! I play my kheldian completely immersed into the lore actually. I actually went through the time to make costume change, and tray shift binds so that I can use the appropriate powers in the appropriate "form" (I'm currently using four "forms" :P)4) Like I said before if you are enjoying your character in the way you are playing than go ahead noone has any right to tell you how to play.
As long as you're having fun with your character, be it mix/max or purely concept, that's all that matters -
Wow, im surprised that this thread is still getting some action! I'll have to check out that build later THB, simply because demon/time seems like it would be awesome for the debuffs. It would help with the damage to those attacks pretty well

Quote:Thank you!I'll admit, Warshades do have a lotta utility. But that's because they're designed as a Blaster/Controller hybrid whereas PBs are more of a Blaster/Scrapper hybrid.
This, right here, just pointed out exactly what I was looking for to describe my PB. On terms of my Peacebringer lately I have been a bit lost as to what to build for, and I've gotten bored with him :[ I knew 'shades are a combination of control and blasting, but I didn't know exactly where to place a peacebringer. I've heard they're more "tank-based" which kind of threw me off.
The problem: I've been trying to make my peacebringer much like my warshade, which isn't the right thing to do at all because they're different hybrids! >.<
Back on topic,
I wouldn't see it as a good thing to compare warshades and peacebringer's powers simply because they ARE different Hybrid ATs. The only thing I would say is worth the comparison is IS vs. GW. Considering IS acts as a hold, and thus can't stack with pulsar.
Although making IS a stun rather than a hold would make them a bit more "'shade-like" in their crowd control, it would only permenantly lock down one target.
