    Blasters aren't a mele AT?

    I don't believe you.

    [/ QUOTE ]Heheheee

True, bt when I say melee AT i mean the toe to toeers , the ones that have more melee attacks across their sets than ranged etc, just cos my blaster has more melee than rnage doesnt make him brute/tank/stalk/scrapper .

Blaster is a damage AT, not really a set stance AT i suppose, good point

If we need help we will holla, although selection will be on the basis of whether people are known to be reliable to the leaders or the actual GM team. too many cooks and all that.

Well it's more relevent here so what the hell. Usually I'd take some notice of the board rules but the linked topic actually pertains to many people who either gave up on the PvP board and channel or are actually nothing to do with the PvP commuinty anyway, so wouldn't be reading it, right?

  5. Herro all . As some of you may know and/or have noticed, I have started a movement to "take /arena back for the PvPers". Yay how I admit partial responsibility for it's commonplaceness amongst 'spammers' regular channels, although woe betide me that I have lost the attention of many good people who would otherwise dabble in PvP.

    So what's it all about?
Well basically, I think what I'm trying to say is that it'd be nice if the arena channel was used for PvP and related discussions only, I'm not the one to lay down more explicit rules than that, but I hope common sense will prevail (so if it becomes a two way chat take it to tells). Hopefully this will bring back some credibility to the channel so that people who are interested to hear of PvP goings on can have the channel in an easily visible tab so that when messages are sent, they are noticed, and when they are not noticed, they soon will be, because there is less irrelevent banter, so hopefully, and we come back to it, the channel can be put in a more prominent place in interested party's UIs (user interface).

    Why?
Because the PvP community is proportionally very small, 'we' have a channel and should be grateful for it and promote it's corrct use at long last

What can I do if I want to chat or ask a general question
The help channel is there for anyone to ask a question, this channel is not defaultly visible on most characters AFAIK although it is in the help tab for new toons (bit rusty as my UI is far from standard), to send to this channel use /h followed by the text string you want to send.

The global chat system has some default channels for servers and teams etc, although one of the biggest general rooms there is called "Global", AFAIK none of the Ops play anymore so if you don't like what goes on there use /gignore or leave, however this is the best and most appropriate channel for general chit chat and Q&A type stuff. If you have membership to 5 global channels already, tough really, leave 1 temporarily and join global with /chanjoin global. Remember to send to these channels is /send <channel name>, if the channel name is more than 1 word it needs to be in "quotes", hence most well thought out globals are single word titles.

I would discourage people from 'spamming' the help channel though as we don't want another Arena chat free for all for the next 18 months, or the new players will just think the community are all eejits.

There is always the forum to post questions on, but obviously the response is a little slower, but it's usually higher quality too, sort of.

Remember that heroes can't see villain broadcasts and vice versa so get enabling it people.

Why do this now when arena chat is already a mess?
Because the PvP communities are starting to migrate to other EU and even US servers, I don't want to move just because a group of non PvP people took liberties and 'forced out' casual PvPers from the specific channel. About time someone moved people to do something about it really, and I'd personally like some more opponents, so yay for selfcentred motivation.

OK, so I'm gonn look at the PvP/Arena channel. Erm, how?
Right click the chat tab you want arena text to be sent to, click edit, highlight arena in the right hand column of channels, click add, click ok. To send type /ac followed by any text you wan to send, although if you are a bit of abinder try /bind <key> beginchat /ac . Note the space at the end of said bind.

People are still spamming arena chat What do I do?
If you think you can be polite about it then maybe a sensible reminder in Arena chat that the channel is for PvP and arena related chat and that the above mentioned channels are there for various other purposes (it would be unhelpful to just say "oi, this is our channel" without providing some kind of support or redirection). If the person gives you grief then a petition would not be unreasonable, afterall, as players we can only truely moderate ourselves, it is NC's job to police their own channel infrastructure afterall. I guess we should just be vigilant. [Also no point going into massive arguments on arena about arena spam, I guess this is the place for that if anywhere, although I suggest you just use /ignore]

ZOMG, Plight you are so bigheaded and I'd pwn you on my MM!1 Why don't you just shut the hell upand stop acting like you pwn the place!?
That's not really the point, if you dont like it then it's not really my problem, a prime example of bowing out when people are right even though you might not like it is when I agree with MaXimillian, makes me but I am not totally unreasonable, and if I can manage it, then so can you fellow MMOG lovers!

JT can take sexeh back all he likes, but I think taking arena back would be at least marginally more productive lollerskates

What MaX said is right about the power picks, just remember you cn't have more than 4 pools and 1 ancillary, the rest kinda fits in naturally. Although CoX is easy to put different builds together in, it's difficult to make a strong build without some very obvious/rigid power picks. for example a blaster without aid self in solo PvP is a bit of a joke

Um first off, 8 posts in a row? Thats a tad excessive, even for most spammers :P

Secondly Solo PvP blasters without Aid Self joke worthy? No, they just arent frontline soldiers. For your play style Aid self may be necessary (same for my current) but for some its far from essential. Sweeping statements like that give new players the wrong idea when it comes to making a toon of their own

    [/ QUOTE ]

Firstly, posting once per reply is perfectly valid, look at the rednames, they do it and they're the standard setters last time i checked. Just trying to make sense

Show me a solo PvP blaster without aid self that's note a joke then?... If they aren't frontline soldiers what are they? in solo you are always the frontline by nature of soloing and dueling.

"but for some its far from essential" - If we are talking about ranged defiance riding sniper type blasters then I dont really think this is viable for all round pvp, maybe lucky kills and stalking as a none stalker or even a bit of zonal kill stealing (which is fair), but not as a duelist.

My "sweeping statement" about solo blasters needing aid self in pvp stands true, allow me to explain to the lesser informed, newer players: blasters do massive damage and some have a lot of single target utility, with this many blasters can kill any AT in a duel, although often theylose a lot of HP, especially against skilled and experienced PvPers. Blasters gain damage from their inherent - defiance - as they lose health. I have seen many blasters, including myself pre including aid self, win a bout in a duel only to die in one shot almost immediately after their opponent has respawned, often under the influence of suppression, a target with no BFs who cannot be mezzed directly, and soft control takes longer to take effect. The only valid tactic for these blasters and many other ATs who can win but at a cost to their HPs is to take aid self, even slottedpersonal force field and rest will not save you from the relentless assault of a clued up foe. Taking invis is also not a real option as running for 99% of a fight is not fun for anyone and often people will have ways of getting you out of invisibility regardless, thos ethat don't can always come up with a way i'm sure.

All solo PvP blaster need aid self to be viable, especially in the arena setting.

I played a Fire/Stone Tanker to 41 and a BS/Regen Scrapper to 50, both were leveled during I0 to I5, but also tested in I6 and I7. Acrobatics is not as good Knockback protection as Integration.

[/ QUOTE ]According to NoFuture, Acro is -100 KB, while integration (And, for example, GA, rooted and unyielding) is -10.

I wouldn't quote NF as a definite answer to anything. Besides, my ingame experience tells me that Acrobatics is less reliable than Integration.

I can't remember ever being knocked down with Integration running. On the other hand, Acrobatics has never been foolproof KB protection for me, something that has caused trouble for my Fire Tanker's teammates.

While I think that coalitions should interact more and have some PvP crossover options and agree on these points, I think that CoP trials should be SG only, if 2 groups are in a position to need eachothers help they should combine IMO. This is something the devs should address; an ingame coalition combiner for groups who do not want to lose wha tthey have earned. I suggest a few simple tools

Pick a base to sell up
Said base items that are forged are readded to creators personal inventory
    Prestige is combined
SG renamed 1 time only, 2 SG totally integrate.

Anything that causes Knockback has a chance to toss an Acrobatics user. And most tanks are at the recieving end of more Knockbacks than the rest of the team, even in AoE situations.

  14. Hi again nostra, the thing with power thrust is that its all about KB not damage, and as it recharges pretty fast most people dont slot it. Like we said in your own build's thread, KB is enough to kill some1, but if you can't KB them then it is worthless, so having it slotted lightly i usually no problem as an experienced player will only use it when the time is right.

You will definately need toslot the powers as you see fit as you level, PvE and PvP change as you level quite drastically.

On my dominator I have frost breath slotted 1 acc 1 damage 1 endred 1 recred 2 range, i use it mainly to stack slows with shiver and my 2 auras (+pet aura=3), cones are not amazing as they tend not to be slotted for burst damage, thats not to say that if you slotted it 1 acc 3dmg 2 recred it wouldnt be a nice ST attack, you will always hit your target (assuming you hit, if you get me) but if they are at the far reach of the cone and more foes are behind them, the cone wont hit. What am i trying to say? Aim at the back and middle of a mob, arrange your cones so they hit well, move fast, lrn 2 plai.

Hope that helped. Oh and some of these posts areprett yclose to when ED hit and have comments about not being able to buff the ice rain powers, which you can now, so if you're not sure about some statements quote and challenge

    fire/elec

If you have perma empath support I wouldnt even take stamina or the fitness pool, unless you want to move faster, but thats not necessary foe many pve blasters.

this would allow earlier picking of hasten, i'd also get stimulant in there to help your empath help you. i wouldnt bother with aid self for a pve duo like this

u should add a 3rd endmod to PS, both tactically and end wise it is best this way.

3 damres in charged armour is the only way to slot this power

damage in shocking bolt is pointless, go 1 acc 3 hold 2 recred, slot shocking grasp the same

just an idea, but as you seem to be stuck for power choices later on, just drop fly, have 1 slotted SS and 3 slotted hover, perma hover for safety in melee or range. 3 slots on hover is not very rewarding for what u put in i feel

if u do take fitness, dont take health, an empath will make it redundant, just get hurdle and swift, or none as i said above.

Sorry about this thread Necromancy, but I have a related question - I've just started a new elec/elec blaster and I was wondering about the slotting of power sink.

At the moment I'm planning 2 rech, 2 endmod, the middle road from what I can figure out - or am I missing something? A third rech only shaves about 6 seconds off the recharge time, and that hardly seems worth it. At the same time, I've no idea what effect the endmods have on the drain-effect. Can anyone help? (I'm assuming the endrdx are pointless, since it gives you end back and doesn't cost *that* much to fire...)

    TIA

[/ QUOTE ]I'd definately want to go 3/3 for this power for soloing and PvP, if you play casual then I wouldn't worry about it, in teams you may be better of with a few slots of damage, but you only have 2 real AoEs you can cycle and one of them I wouldn't slot damage in anyways.

Without hasten you will defo want the 3rd slot, with, again, you won't notice that much, but when I was twiddling iwth it and the numbers I could see the difference, but that was without stamina, relying totally on PS to keep going in fights.

    Thanks for the clarifications!

And, btw, that's how I understood it before. My energy attacks, the description of which mentions a "disorienting" effect, have in reality a knockback effect.

    [/ QUOTE ]
The Energy Manipulation melee attacks cause Disorientation (except Power Thrust which is Knockback) and the Energy Blast attacks cause Knockback.

And it's not Fly that helps against Knockback (though it does provide a bit of help) it's Hover that does so. With Hover active you'll just spin quickly in place once instead of being tossed back several yards and then have to stand up.

Acrobatics protects completely against roughly 90% of all Knockbacks and it provides resistance and (minor) protection against Hold effects. Acrobatics is iirc slightly more costly to keep running than Hover.

[/ QUOTE ]To clarify. Disorient is stun, when you are stunned the red text for your status says "Stunned", this means you can move at base speed but not use any powers and all toggles shut off. KB knocks you fly, whether it be back, down, up (these are referred to as KB KD KU), they will always stop you using any powers or anything until you get back up. Fly and hover both offer the same protection from KB, that is to say that you are not knocked down and only suffer for a split second as opposed to several full seconds.

Acro protects against far more than 90% of KB, it makes you practically impervious to KB, although I have heard that combinations of location based KB powers can stack through it I have never been KBed with acro on that I can recall. Also, acro provides no resistance to holds at all (resist in mez terms is duration reducing), it provides mag 2 protection, that is to say that no blaster or other non troller hold can hold through it without stacking and that the hold durations, whether thay take effect or not will not be affected. Anything more than mag 2 will drop the toggle and you will be held, provided suppression has not kicked in

And acro does cost more than hover and has a 10 second or so recharge where hover is purely an on/off toggle

  22. Something else I thought of. I tend to play a character through with no more pools than I feel I really need for a few reasons. 1) pools can be replaced by team members in many cases 2) everypool pick is a power pick you won't get to experience, potentially losing fun and actual character tactics.

Most of my toons havenothing but a travel power and if they need them then very particular pools, so my 27 troller has only hasten and my 43 PB has no pools at all, at 50 I can happily respec to get the strongest build, but 1-50 for me is about learning the powers and their tactics and playstyle. My only level 50, my elec elec blaster, went through a few respecs but never had stamina or hasten until I hit 50, you can make a toon work, just have fun with it . Currently playing a 39 ice ice dom with tp foe, hover and fly! w00t!

Just to jump in with an alternative sollution:

Air Superiority is nice, but by no means necessary. If you want to take an alternate route to get Knockback protection and don't mind trying some other form of movement than Superjump, here is a variation of what I have on my AR/Ice Blaster:

    FLIGHT:
    Air Superiority
    Hover

    FITNESS:
    Swift
    Health
    Stamina

    SPEED:
    Hasten
    Superspeed

    MEDICINE:
    Aid Other
    Aid Self

Hover works as a form of knockback protection and allows you to move up and down, while your main movement power would be superspeed. (having 3 slots of flight speed in hover and swift help) Superspeed also provides limited amount of stealth when fighting NPCs, so you have that as well from this combo.

[/ QUOTE ]A very viable alternative and one I would advocate, although maybe not as great in solo PvP, PvE and team PvE wise these picks would be far mor than sufficient.

Bare in mind that super speed only grants stealth until you attack these days, it suppresses like other powers now.

Nostra, the stealth pool has very limited application in game, personallys ince the stealth nerfs I would suggest grant invis for the +stealth +def part on 2 team members rather than stealth for each member, and also phase for many obscure PvP predicaments
