I agree, but again, that same blaster is not doing as much damage as the blaster with the same powersets who when with full recharge instead of ranged defense.
If blaster A adds 45% defense and 50% global recharge while blaster B adds 100% global recharge, do you think that the extra damage output from blaster B is going to be in any way relative to the mitigation that blaster A now has?
That's the real crux of the situation for me. NO ONE can add anything to their builds that will do more for said build in relative performance increases than what punching to the softcap on defense does. And they can't do so because the set bonuses just aren't there to do it.
You can't add enough damage to come close to the extra damage output over time that extra defense gives. In the blaster example, the one with all the defense is going to survive so much longer than the one dishing out the extra damage that over time, the one with the defense wins hands down.
You can't add enough dam-res to come close. Nor regen. Nor mez protection. Nor HP.
I guess I could raise the question here, is it just that the defense/tohit equation is so broken that this is a problem, or is it just because there's too much +def in setIO bonuses? I'm pretty sure that the answer is the latter. -

We're supposed to compare our secondaries as they are slotted with SOs. I'm good with this concept. At that level, it appears that all is fine and groovy. It's one of the reasons that we scrappers are such a happy lot.
Then IOs come into the picture. Instead of WP being on par with SR with SOs, we're suddenly in the situation where that WP is getting hit only as often as the SR, but the WP has vastly more hitpoints AND regen AND dam-res.
Things are suddenly out of whack.
It's bugs me slightly more when I look over and see that blaster over there sitting at the soft-cap to range, hovering and blasting in near total safety.
The problem is that it's FAR easier to add defense due to the IO overload than it is ANY other form of mitigation or damage output.
The question is: Is being closer to the cap to start with enough to balance things out? When it takes 6 of 9 powers to get there, I'm not too sure.
I'm not saying that SR is weak by ANY stretch here. I still love the set. I've been itching to make an SR brute and if Castle ported over brute SR to tanks, I'd be hard pressed not to make one.
All I'm stating is that there's too much freaking defense in the IO set bonuses. If there were more dam-res or more damage or more regen, I'd probably view it differently. However, we don't balance by raising everything else up to the outlier. -

I'll have to go nuts on the new Louis, but the most I do on the rest of the alts are some of the uniques and procs.
I know my 50 sm/wp brute is done with basic IOs, and I'm pretty sure that my poor 50 WS is still packing SOs. -

Obviously your current build does the job. I've been concerned a lot lately with the fact that the devs have created a situation with defense that is flatly being abused by all of us.
We've got Fire/ tanks running around softcapped on defense to X for satan's sake. Makes the concept of super reflexes laughable because now EVERYONE can get super reflexes to at least some of the incoming attacks.
You've stated you're not into crunching the numbers like some of us. There's nothing wrong with that. 45% defense means that in the absence of defense debuffs and tohit buffs, you can't get a better chance to be missed than you've got. That's it. Nothing more.
If whatever else you have in your build is good enough to keep you up and swinging beyond that, you're gold.
"Good enough" is whatever you decide it will be.
My main character will NEVER be "good enough" for me when I sit back and run comparisons. He's never going to be able to push out the damage of a dark/shield saturating AAO and SD. He's never going to have the survivability of /regen that's cranked up to the softcap on defense.
But is he good enough for almost everything I throw at him? Hell yea. He's claws/sr. He's damned good at everything. -

So run all-tank ITFs and you can sit back with 136 enemies aggroed at a time with many more waiting in the wings ready to come streaming in as you kill them off.
For the record, I hated map herding teams in the past as much as I despise teams that skip 90% of the TF content.
Some of us just play to watch enemies fall down.
Would I gripe if tanker aggro cap was bumped to 23 or 27 or 32? Nope. I wouldn't. The devs have made several decisions that I didn't see the point to but in the end didn't mean enough to me to matter.
This would be one of those changes. I'd still quit teams with tanks that demanded to herd or ignore them and run off to take on spawns on my own.
Would I utilize the higher aggro cap on my tank? I don't know. I'd have to test it to find out. -

Scrappers still cap out at 75% DR. Tanks at 90%. Everyone and the dog can get 45% defense these days. Including tanks who have an easier time getting there. Tanks get 40% more hitpoints at base and over 30% more at the caps. Better mez protection. Better aggro control.
For the toughest AT on the block, there's far too many of you whining like 3 yeare old girls. Want more damage? Build for it. Want to take on more enemies at once? Never stop moving and never stop attacking so that as soon as you kill one enemy another joins its place. The CLOS works just fine for that when you know what you're doing.
Yall need to quit pining away for your glory days. Reminds me of football players at a 20 year reunion. -
