  1. I think of brawl as a fantastic tool for the levels where I'm not end efficient and don't have a proper attack chain.
  2. Quote:
vice versa (using Brawl lowered the damage output of your chain by more than the damage boost Fury gave you).
Brawl rocks early on in a brute's career. If you're using it at 50, you're doing it wrong.
  3. Sarrate,

It does make me wonder what damage modifier is in use since it isn't using the normal one for each set.

However, I don't personally see a problem with scrappers and stalkers taking more damage from ET than brutes and tankers because thanks to their higher damage mods they're doing more damage with it. Especially considering that changing it to be extra damage = damage to self scale*AT melee damage modifier would mean that everyone is taking less self-damage from using it.
  4. "Killing yourself" is a bit of an exaggeration. However, I wouldn't disagree with the statement that the damage it does to you is too high for the extra damage in puts out.

My belief is that it should be on a 1 for 1 basis. By the numbers, ET should only be doing 1.56 smashing and 2 energy damage. Right now it does 1.56 and 3. The self damage should then be only 1 to match the 1 extra damage the attack does.

This would mean that on a brute, it should only be doing around 41 points of damage at 50.
  5. Food for thought:

In my "results are in" thread in the scrapper forum, the first one with the ridiculous levels of recharge, I had EM pushing out 207DPS. That's with the *current* energy transfer.

If I do nothing to that chart but return ET to its 1 second animation, not even checking to see if the chain is still possible, the DPS goes up to 253.

207 to 253 DPS by reverting ET's cast time back to what it was.

For comparison sake from that same thread, the top dog was a brute DM with saturated soul drain at 222.

If we look at it in the more realistic second thread, based on basic IOs, EM sits in 2nd and 3rd place for brute and scrapper EM, (yes, I know scrappers don't have it right now,) it bumps it up from 157 to 175.

What does this show? That for high recharge builds, old EM did reach levels of single target damage output considerably above all other sets.

The nerf left EM near the top. Whirling hands should be fixed. It should be doing the correct 1.2 scale instead of the incorrect 1 scale it has now.

For what it's worth, I'd like to see a suggestion for an un-soloable combination of powersets, regarless of which archetype it ends up being. In this game, I'm confident no one can find one.
There isn't one. Especially now when we have the ability to lower the diff to -1.

There are, however, some combos that are so slow that soloing them can easily be described as not fun. That doesn't mean that there isn't someone out there that would have fun doing it anyway.

It's the way it is, just like if you we're shiooting an changed to a mace, there has to be a delay, it's not realistic if you could swap instantly....
I know how to punch someone with my left hand while holding a sword in my right.

I also know how to kick someone if I have both hands full.

As I hold a bow with my left hand, I can easily punch someone with my right without slinging the bow across my back.

Were I able to send out various forms of energy by manipulating said energies with my mind and directing them through my extremities, I would be able to launch my single target immobilize from my big toe, or perhaps my nose or mouth without putting my bow or assault rifle up to do so.

In other words, redraw is something that should have never been put into the game in the first place. Since it was, it has caused the developers a great deal of work in getting around it.

BAB is actively working on a solution, or at least was until he hit a wall with shields. This tells me that the devs want redraw about as much as many of us do. Which is not at all in combat.
  8. I forgot dropped missions. So it IS possible. Although not possible before the servers are shut down.

Then bring two scrappers. Problem solved.

Someone around here has a sig line that I'm going to bastardize:

"There is no problem in this game that throwing more scrappers at it won't resolve."

There's a lot of truth there. As Sam points out, there's very little in this game that gives XP outside of defeating spawns. I'm positive that you can't level to 50 on exploration badges alone.

Due to another thread, I recently cranked up an FF/Ene defender. He's slow. Very slow. After 5 years of playing, however, I think I've reached a point where leveling speed no longer matters much to me.

Once I find the time to tear myself away from Dragon Age and L4D2, I'm going to run a new, more accurate, leveling speed test between a kin/son defender and an elec/stone brute. This last test showed a 6 hour difference between the time it took my ff/ene defender to hit 13 and the time it took my claws/wp to do the same.

However, I did content with the defender (and hero side that meant a LOT of time wasted zone hopping) versus the brute that mostly did street hunting and paper missions. The next test will be identical. Street hunt to 5, then paper missions to 12, all done with accurate time tracking.

The point of all this? A scrapper will pump out more DPS than a defender. I don't care what that defender is. Two scrappers will dish out X amount of DPS. A scrapper plus a defender will push out Y DPS. Two defenders will push out Z DPS. I don't know what those values represent but I am very curious if what groups like the Repeat Offenders are capable of is grounds enough to leave defender damage where it's at. I'm betting the answer is yes.

I can't make the same case for tanks. Especially in light of GR going live and brutes (like my em/inv) moving blueside.

Tie in to the OP: Defenders and Tanks are the only low DPS archetypes in the game. Controllers would be with them if not for containment, but you can't ignore containment. Brutes have lower base damage than tanks, but fury punches them past tank damage with a pair of punches.

Is there anything *wrong* with having everyone be a damage dealer? Redside shows us that the answer is no.

What the powers team plans to do about the weak damage dealers blueside remains to be seen.

EDIT: oh... diminishing returns on buff/debuffs countered by a bump to defender damage modifiers. Tanks get a straight buff to damage modifiers with no change because they have neither crits nor fury. Damage caps are left the same. Hmmmmm.

Yup. Regardless of my generally asocial attitude, I genuinely like a large bunch of the folks on PinnBadges. Those that I don't get the gignore boot. No harm, no foul.

Now if only everyone would gignore those I gignore....

    Damage output?

My build IS designed for soloing. I have all the blast powers (not Power Push, which seems redundant, and not Snipe, which is useful, but I couldn't fit it in anywhere), all slotted for damage. I don't have Aim or Build Up, there just isn't room in the build. However, I have inspirations to compensate for that.

If the problem is me, why does this subject keep being brought up by others (for years before I started doing it - and for the record, this is the first time I've brought up defender damage).
    * The numbers don't lie. They can't.

    *

I'll be dinging 12 shortly after I log back on today. Slow? Yes. Difficult? Nope. My ONLY deaths have been the three I got soloing Frostfire. An NPC that has taken out most of the scrappers I've thrown at him.

EDIT: No aim or buildup and you're complaining that you don't have enough damage output?

    Damage output?

4 hours on patrol 100% solo
Level 10 reached after soloing Frostfire
Frostfire defeated me three times before I took him out
That was without the use of vet powers. I do have sands of mu, but I knew better than to get into melee range with him where he and his imps would tear me apart in seconds. At level 9, you can only carry 8 insps.
I didn't even look to see what FF spawned as. Scrapperlock had me. Good thing I had ninja run to get me back to the mission quickly.

At 10 I took power burst

That's about twice as long as it takes me to solo a brute to 10. Sounds right to me so far.
  15. Bill Z Bubba

    Damage output?

Too low based on what? Given the mitigation provided by defender primaries, I can't even see what case you could make.

What's even stranger, unless this FF/Ene def's soloability plummets after 22, I might just keep it.
  16. I dunno, A, I'd say that autohit attacks are rather unfair to defense based powersets.

    Damage output?

    Quote:
People aren't listening, alas. As I have said before, it wasn't that he was killing me, it's that I couldn't do enough damage to defeat him.
For the 10000th time, you weren't doing enough damage because your build is not designed for soloing.

If you don't have assault, you fail. If you don't have p-bolt, p-blast, p-burst, e-torrent, explosive blast, repulsion bomb and Aim all slotted to 95% damage buff, you fail.

If you don't have stamina ed-capped, you fail.

You have already been shown an energy blast defender soloing your EB that didn't use storm's debuffs. This is UNDENIABLE PROOF that the problem is YOU.

The only person completely ignoring reality in this thread is YOU.
  18. Bill Z Bubba

    Damage output?

Looks like I'm skipping force bolt due to the minimal damage. What I'm really freaking out about is this dispersion bubble business. Hold, Immobilze and Disorient ... is that actually protection and not just resistance?

Anyway... level 6, just got hover. Heading to KR where I'll get power burst at 10. All slots are going into my blasts. PFF is the only primary power I'll have until Dispersion Bubble at 12.

    Damage output?

This thread has taught me one thing:

There IS an "I Win" button in the game. It's called Personal Force Field. This is just silly.

"Oh no! I'm almost dead!" Turn on PFF. Go have a smoke. Come back, still alive, and full health, full end. Kill offending baddies.

    Damage output?

I can see a reason it shouldn't happen. A solo player that finds himself facing unsoloable content has hit a brick wall and will be unable to continue playing. This is frustrating and dissatifying, and leads to unhappy customers.
Ain't it just keen that the devs put in the ability to drop missions and have them considered completed?

Oh... almost level 5. No vet powers yet. No deaths. I'll start a new thread when I hit 22 and SOs.

How can you gripe about endurance issues when you can turn on PFF and just stand there in near perfect safety (95% safety) while your end recovers?
  21. Bill Z Bubba

    Damage output?

ugh..Uberguy, could you edit your post please? I don't want anyone thinking I actually stated anything like that. Not sure what happened with the quote thing.

Ultimo, Catwhoorg showed that if you have bosses turned on, EBs will be EBs. The default difficulty is bosses off. If you've altered your difficulty beyond default, you've destroyed your own argument.

I can get AVs to spawn in my solo missions thanks to the new difficulty settings. You've already stated that you wouldn't gripe about not being able to solo AVs. Therefore, you've already, without accepting the truth of it, accepted that you shouldn't be able to solo EBs either.

    Problem solved.

And as I said before, the problem is not the defender archetype nor its damage modifiers.

Am I really going to have to build an FF/Ene defender with videos of me soloing ridiculous content to prove this to you? Or can you just finally accept that the problem is you, your build and your playstyle?
  22. Pistols don't fit the devs' concept for scrappers. They've stated it will never happen. SS may or may not. When/if it gets ported to scrappers, we'll know.

Citation needed. I also fail to see how you got to there from Liquid's post.
  24. Sort of. Gravity Well, Essence Drain, Orbiting Death, Sunless Mire, Eclipse and Inky Aspect are all melee range powers. The rest is ranged. While melee is my main gig, and I do have a level 50 human-only warshade, I tend to bounce in and out of melee often.

Especially after getting your fluffies up and running.

But you could certainly add power pool melee attacks if you like. Sadly, the one that's actually worthwhile is blocked from you since Khels don't have access to the flight power pool.

    Damage output?

Yup. We can't make Iron Man in this game. Can't make Thor or the Hulk either.

The best we can do is close approximations.

Why is that? Because this is a game with rules that separate it from the fiction it's based on. A lot of people don't seem to get that.

If the OP had started a thread explaining that what FF had to offer a character and/or a team was less than what the other defender primaries offered, I'd probably not even post in the thread. It doesn't appear to be the case, however. FF gets 2 get out of pain free powers, and how many other defender primaries get an AoE damage attack?

But he didn't. He stated that he couldn't beat some boss and because of that, defender damage should be cranked up.

When I started the thread on buffing PB damage, I did so because I don't see PBs offering something that counters what their AT counterpart offers. I was seeking balance between those two powersets.

While I can understand that some people don't see the difference between the two requests, I fail to understand why they don't see the difference.

For those that want the defender base damage modifiers raised, you can make it happen. You only need to find a proper argument backed by solid reasoning showing that it won't knock the AT out of balance when compared to what defender primaries bring to the table.

Considering what the Repeat Offenders are capable of doing, I don't see that happening.
