  1. I agree with the majority above that it's not must have, but is very nice on most builds. I will say that between Inherent Fitness and City Traveler, I have less endurance issues or more power choices and can take whatever travel power I want so the majority of my builds end up with Hasten. Often, it may only have the original slot or 2, but it's still very attractive for a first tier pool power.
  2. Yes, the 3 2GB modules are the only ones in the system and came in a sealed box from Microcenter.

I agree with Gangrel that overclocking could cause these problems, however, I get the same issues at stock speeds/settings and overclocking SOLVES them (until next reboot). That is really the bizarre part to me.

Thanks for the suggestion on memtest86, which I assume I can download safely from www.memtest86.com (or is it memtest86+ from www.memtest.org?).

As seen in the quoted thread, these boards helped me build a new rig late last year. I am really enjoying it aside from one annoying issue: whenever I restart my computer I get memory-related BSoDs and other errors until I change my memory profile in the BIOS. Here are the steps I've taken:
-When I first built the computer, CoH fired up fine! Huzzah! The default BIOS settings were 1066MHz/Standard Profile (those are two different settings) in the Memory section.
-I decided I wanted to try speeding up my memory in the BIOS so I restarted, and went in to set it at 1600MHz/Extreme Profile. It booted up fine and showed the memory running at 1600MHz. However, running CoH resulted in several crashes and a few BSoDs with errors specifying memory addresses.
-I figured my system couldn't support the faster memory. I was disappointed, but couldn't really tell the difference anyway so I restarted and changed from Extreme to Standard (left it at 1600). Worked like a champ...
-...until I restarted. Same problems. Lowered it down to 1066Mhz. Worked again.
-...until next time I restarted. Now, I was getting a bit frustrated and tried a few things, but what seemed to fix it was RAISING the memory settings back up to 1600MHz/Extreme! I ran fine at this setting for a while (leaving the machine on for weeks) until yesterday when I had to restart to apply some Windows Updates.
-This time, it was not so obvious. I tried updating the game client for the patch yesterday and kept getting Checksum errors. I tried deleting the checksum, deleting piggs, etc. Nothing worked, I would get an error on every exe and pigg it tried to verify. I then went to the NCSoft support site and read "If you still receive the checksum error at this point, the error has also been linked to a firewall or faulty RAM."
-Faulty RAM!?! That sounds like me. Went back into BIOS, dropped back down to Standard profile and the updater and game run fine.

So, could bad RAM explain this? Has anyone seen anything like this were the specific settings don't matter, but changing them resolves issues? Can anyone suggest any tools or steps I should try? It seems very bizarre, but I wanted to get some opinions before I RMAed the RAM.
  4. Thanks for the walk down memory lane, Saph. Great work!

I'm sure folks were doing STFs and Khans late last night and this morning. What is the latest start/end time for an STF receiving the Notice and earliest start/end time for a Khan?

Hmmm, and once that specific time is established, is it a deadline for start time or end time of the TF? For example using the previous/current target: Time of switchover is midnight EST (hypothetically, I have no clue). I start an STF at 11:00pm Monday and finished at 12:01am Tuesday morning. Do I get the Notice? If I do a Khan at those same times do I get it?
  6. Another frustration I have with mid level recipes is that the supply that does exist is spread across several levels. I honestly don't care whether I get a level 31, 32, or level 33, but there is no way for me to do that without making multiple bids. Not only does this take up valuable slots, but also puts me at risk to buy more than I want. Otherwise, I risk putting a high bid on the 32, only to see the 33 go to someone for 10x less.

I don't know how the details would work, but I wish there were a way to bid on a range of levels. Another option is to only drop them in increments of 5, like commons.
  7. I am currently doing the Synapse TF and my team does not believe we are getting double xp. I am level 43 currently, but exemplared to 20 for the TF. A level 21 minion is giving 1216 xp. According to the wiki, at level 43, an even level mob should give 1198 normally (not double xp) so we should be getting over 2000.

1- Am I correct? Are we not getting double xp?
2- Anyone else seeing this? Any ideas on how to fix?

We've tried relogging with no luck. Thanks!

    2nd account

If you're not set on using one of your existing trial accounts, you can also "Refer a Friend" from your first account. That will allow you to start a new account, and apply the retail code as mentioned above, but you will get a free month of play time on your main account too.

I use players ratings very similarly as Deacon, except I only have a 1 account so my 5 stars are my exclusive club of folks I've teamed with on a weekly basis for years (many are RL friends too). I've often been surprised on off-servers/times when a 5 star name will walk into WWs next to me and I have to look in my gfriends to see who is on an alt. 4 stars are folks I've teamed with many times and enjoy their company. 1 star are folks I don't want to team with again.

I can count the number of notes I've entered on one hand and haven't used them in quite a while.

But wouldn't that mean having to buy seperate enhancements for an entire level 50 build. Even if I went with Common IOs, that's around 40M and I would lose all my set bonuses from my main builds. Sure, I could buy SOs much cheaper, but that seems like it would defeat the point of becoming an Incarnate.

Yes, me too. I would even say I've seen more Cardiac than Spiritual and it perplexes me.

Thanks for all the responses. In summary, it does not look like I'm missing something big here. I'll likely continue going along my plan of slotting Musculature for all damage dealers and Spiritual for everyone else. Based on suggestions here, I'll have to further explore the idea of swapping boosts on the fly and maybe consider Cardiac for a few toons I have recently added Leadership toggles to.
  11. tl;dr: I figured most builds would try to boost what they were already built for, but that doesn't seem to be the case in practice. Am I missing something?

    -------
When I first read about the Alpha Slot and it's various Boosts, my first thought was that nearly all my 50s would want the Spiritual Boost, with my few damage dealers going Musculature to eek out even higher orange numbers. I was certain that Spiritual would be the favorite of the player base for the same reasons that recharge set bonuses are so coveted. I understand Spiritual is NOT a global recharge boost, but both cause Hasten to come up quicker than without them (for example). Similarly, I could see the Nerve-Radial path being popular for defense-based builds.

While I realize the majority of the currently available boosts are still impacted by ED, part of them are not and every little bit helps. Furthermore, very few of my level 50s need any help with Accuracy or Endurance management. By the time they are at that point, they can go through full attack chains repeatedly with all needed toggles running and not run out of endurance or miss much more that 5% of the time.

However, turns out I may have been wrong. In my recent play experience, Cardiac is by far the most popular with Nerve as popular as the others. Most advice threads on the boards about specific builds seem to recommend the same. Is my anecdotal experience incorrect or am I missing something? I get that most people aren't ED capped on End Rdx or Acc so it will provide the best numeric boost, but if you're not running out or not missing, why does it matter? Are folks removing EndRdx/Acc enhancements once they obtain the boost? I could see doing that except for the fact that the Boost does not work exemplared under 45.

I'm just looking for some other viewpoints before I start Alpha slotting. For example, I'll probably start with my recharge intensive Warshade, and I was planning on Spiritual because Eclipse coming up a few seconds faster is far more valuable to me than it costing 1/3 less endurance when I just got Stamina for free and can refill it almost any time in battle with Stygian Circle.

    Thanks!

    missing e-mails

Exactly. I'm not trying to store stuff in my email. I'm just trying to send and receive items with friends of mine. If these emails happen to be sent in a certain (indeterminable by the player) time frame, they are gone before they've been claimed with no indication that anything has gone awry.

If I went out to my (snail) mail box after missing a day or 2 or picking it up and it was all gone because "it's not meant for storage", I'd complain that this is not right. If my company's email suddenly randomly lost emails, I'd talk to my admin and if he responded with "it's not meant for storage", I'd fire him.

Perhaps it's semantics, but email is nothing but storage. It's an asynchronous messaging system that stores the message until the recipient is ready to receive it. There is already a time limit and message limit so as long as we're operating within those contraints, I don't think caveat emptor is valid.

My buddy plays around once or twice a month, but well within the 60 day limit. I play frequently and will send him stuff he needs for his builds via email as it drops. Are you saying that we are using the system incorrectly as "storage"? I understand bugs and in the grand scheme recognize this as small potatoes. However, what I don't understand is the mysterious time frames (both when it happens and what times it affects) and the burden on the player to remember the specifics of if and what was lost to get it back. Once I identify it, they can confirm it was lost, but why is that my responsibility. In the example above, I don't always remember what was sent and don't tell my buddy to be looking for it, which means it's irrevocably lost.
  13. I got my memory situation corrected and got the rig built over the weekend. I've had a couple of play sessions since then and am loving it. The only issue I faced was when I had both FSAA and Ambient Occlusion turned all the way up (frequent game crashes), but that seems common. Ultra Mode is not the complete game-changing experience I was hoping for, but it very pretty, especially near water. My game and zone load times are far better.

Thanks to all contributors to the thread for helping me get here.

    Forum issues

I believe there are 2 seperate issues, both of which I suffer from. The older one mentioned in Maestro's link has to do with being logged out of the forums intermittently.

I believe the one the OP is suffering from is that the forums have been unbearably slow (to the point of timing out, but sometimes I would come back 30 minutes later to a loaded page) for the past few days. It started for me on Friday and seemed to have just been fixed. I asked my SG on Friday night and I was the only one suffering from it so I assume it's ISP related (I'm on Comcast Atlanta, BTW). Only affects boards.cityofheroes.com, all other sites I tried load quickly.

Either way, you are not alone, but it looks like the slowness was just corrected for me. Hopefully for you too.
  15. Thanks for the clarification. Those charts seem to focus on 3 channel 6GB vs dual 4GB and dual 6GB. I'm assuming a 3 X 2GB is also superior to 2 X 4GB dual? So should I be using DDR3-1066, 1333, 1600, or even 2200? The MB documentation says:
    Quote:
    1.6 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 24 GB of system memory(Note 1)
    2.Dual/3 channel memory architecture
    3.Support for DDR3 2200/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules
    4.Support for non-ECC memory modules
5.Support for Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) memory modules
It does not show 1600 as a supported option, but it seems most popular. Is the higher number faster or better? Will I see any difference between 2200 and 1333 for example? I also had previously gone with CAS 7 over 8 or 9 since this was described as "latency". Is there bang for the buck there too?

How are these Corsair Dominators? Will they work with this MB? They seem to be a little more expensive than the G.Skill Ripjaws or Mushkin Blacklines, but are the highest rated.
  16. Well, crap. I could have sworn I asked that at Micro Center. Perhaps he thought I was asking about DDR3.

Just to clarify: Will just 2 sticks work at all, just not optimally? Or do I have to have 3 of the same modules for it to be able to use any of them? Just confused if "want their memory" means it's mandatory. I guess I'll go to 3 X 2GB, but am wondering if I can get by until it arrives.
  17. The trigger has been pulled. I have most of my stuff and hope to receive the rest this week. Here's what I ended up with:
    CPU: Intel I7-950
    Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) F3-12800CL7D-8GBRH
HD: WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s OEM
    Vid Card: EVGA GTX460SC 1GB
    PSU: Corsair CMPSU-750TX
Fan: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
    MoBo: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
Thermal: IC Diamond 7C Thermal Compound
Optical: Samsung 22x DVD±RW Burner with Dual/Double Layer Support OEM
Case: Cooler Master 690 II Advanced ATX

Most of it is either exactly or based on Father Xmas' 1375 list. Thanks to fur_nes' suggestion on Micro Center, I got the i7-950 for $5 LESS than the i5-760 at the egg. Note this did require a MB upgrade as well since that processor is a 1366 socket vs an 1156, but that was only about $60 more and I thought it was worth it. I could have gone with a cheaper MB, but the Gigabyte was well reviewed. I believe the rest of the components are fine with either CPU, but let me know if I'm wrong.

I also went with the RAM upgrade to 2 4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 7 Cas. I stuck with the Corsair 750TX PSU despite Father's notes above because I got a great deal on it (around $50 after rebates) that I couldn't pass up. Hopefully, it will work well for me, but I would have preferred the modular wiring. If it's an issue, I may upgrade to the HX or even AX (good deals on this one too).

My total came to around $1100 after rebates, not including the Win7 license I already have, but I was very anal about comparison shopping finding the deals over the holiday weekend.

I've put a system together before, but it's been a while. If anyone has a handy link to a good walk through (like this one), send it on over. I have seen conflicting info on how best to apply the thermal compound and this was something I definitely didn't do last time.

Thanks again for all the input. I'll check in again once I'm up and running.
  18. Thanks Father Xmas for the advice, guide, and wish list, and everyone for their input. Looks like I'll stick with the 460, more memory, and look over the PSUs. I will check out Microcenter and Fry's for sales, and finally pull the trigger this weekend.

I'll post back with my experience. Just for reference, I am upgrading from a P4 2.4 GHz, 4GB (but on XP 32 bit so more like 3GB) with a 7900GS pushing two monitors (main being a 1920x1080 Samsung 22"). I expect big improvements in both framerate and quality, as well as loading times.
  19. I'm determined to build my next rig myself, but have been in a bit of "analysis paralysis" for the past few months trying to get the best components for the best bargain. It seems like we've had a bit of a recent price drop so I'm thinking I need to pull the trigger, but have a couple of questions. I'm basing things on Father Xmas' $1375 Box, which is now around $1050 after rebates and is from April. The one significant change I know I want to make for personal experience reasons is to swap the XFX 5850 for a GTX 460 1GB or better (like this one).

    1. Is now the time to buy? Or put better, any reason to wait? Do Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Xmas sales, after Xmas sales, etc. generally have any impact on prices of components? Or is a new piece of hardware due out soon that may lower prices?
    2. Does my decision to swap to an NVidia necessitate any other changes? Specifically, will the Mobo and Power Supply (it says "Crossfire ready") still work fine with the new card?
    3. I've had good luck with EVGA GeForce cards before. Any thoughts on the one I linked above? Since the prices are a little lower, I could afford to go up to a 465 or even a 470 like this EVGA GeForce GTX 470. Is it worth it?
    4. Any other updates you would suggest from Father Xmas' rig? I probably have $100-200 budget flexibility from his list if there are any easy wins.

I don't do any PC gaming outside of CoH currently. After I buy this, I may put Civ V or Starcraft 2 on my Xmas wish list, but for the purposes of this discussion, assume I'm only playing CoH and related tasks (HeroStats, Sentinel, Wiki) on the rig.

    Thanks for any advice!

2- Can I buy more than 1 at that price?

I agree. I had similar issues when I wanted to gift game time to a buddy who got me into the game, but later had financial troubles. I had to search all over for physical time cards at retailers with only limited success. At the time, I was cited "security/fraud reasons" for this policy. I somewhat understand that they've been burned by scammers/stolen credit cards in the past, but it just seems like there should be a better solution. I mean other sites allow this kind of thing all the time. Furthermore, if I've been paying with the same valid card for over 5 years, it seems like I could reach some sort of "trusted" status.
  22. Do Rikti attack Praetoria by chance?
  23. No problem at all, Hyper. I was just making sure I had the right day/time. I plan to catch you guys next week. Disko is a 50 from a FRad team long ago, but I may roll up a new one too.
  24. Disko Inferno and Burnaholic have been on the hill, but don't see anyone else. Did we get something wrong or is it just a slow night?
  25. Also, I don't think it's isolated to Kahn. My team of 5 rogues and 1 hero were doing Tina's arc last night. On the first "Board Train" mission, we all went through Ouro. Once in mission, all rogues could target and attack the hero. We tried going through RWZ on the second "Board Train" with similar results. We didn't get a third before disbanding or we would have gone to the actual train and checked.
