Episode #14 is now online.
Ask Captain Catastrophe #14: Appearances
The Captain is back in City Hall, and this time he reveals a very SPECIAL trick for low-level heroes that was only recently made possible. -
Issue #2 of "Guardians of the Dawn Spotlight" is now online.
(Clicking on the image will take you to the comic itself. Sorry, it's in PDF format only.)
This issue focuses on Ryder Lightning, the second member of the so-called "Guardian Exiles". If you think you know who he is supposed to be, you might be in for a bit of a surprise.
Also the adventures of Lyon Powers continue as talks with Back Alley Brawler as well as deal with a group of untimely intruders.
As always, let me know what you think. -
Quote:Agreed!Just this morning I was playing my new DA/Electric tanker, and started into Willy Starbuck's Skulls/Hellions story arc. Got about three missions into the arc and then he gives me the "Speak to Hero Corp Analyst" thing.
Before the arc is one thing.
After the arc is another.
During the arc is <bleeping bleepity bleep!> -
The thought occured to me that perhaps these "manditory contacts" can be resolved in a different way. You know how certain contacts send messages now? The Mission Architect representative and the Midnight Squad contacts will send a quick message and then their contact will appear for you to choose to go to. Well why not do the same for the others?
So at level 6 instead of being part of someone else's mission requirment (which has no buisness being there anyway), how about having a pop-up of Lt. Wincott appear with a message asking for help and then you can choose to go there or not. Same for Stephanie Peebles at Striga Isle when the player reaches 20.
Then make the same apply to the PvP contacts. Have them become contacts with but a single mission... to learn about the PvP area. They met, they talked, mission over. There is only one that may be a problem, and that would be the Kings Row Hero Corps contact for difficulty levels. Maybe that could be changed just by having to meet ANY Hero Corps NPC, or change the contact over to Henry Peter Wong in Atlas Park.
Then at least there would be some consistancy in the game. -
Quote:Thanks. I'm glad you liked the story. Issue 2 will be up shortly.I enjoyed the spotlight story in and of itself Battle.
Those predefined speech bubble templates are a real turn off though. I don't think it helps having seperate paragraphs of exposition inside a single balloon either, trying to read them feels like running into a wall of text...
I look forward to a second issue though to find out more in regards to how the Exiles came to CoX and how this thread with Lyon Powers will play out.
I know the speech balloons aren't that great. That's one of the pitfalls of working with MS Publisher. Then again this was my first issue, and I did improve on it somewhat with Issue 2.
Speaking of which, would anyone have a suggestion for a better program that is affordable and hasn't been discontinued? -

Episode 13 of the "Ask Captain Catasrophe" series is now online.
Ask Captain Catastrophe #13: Understanding
Comments are appreciated. -
I definately agree with you on this, Samuel. It gets frustrating to have an alt being told he or she HAS to go run to Striga or HAS to go running to KR to chat or HAS to go running to the PvP zone. I would love to send the character to talk with those contacts early just to avoid getting the mission requirement, or, as you suggested, give us the option to avoid them.

Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you know that my first-ever comic book is done and availible for folks to read.
The series is called "Guardians of the Dawn Spotlight" and it focuses on specific members of the Guardians of the Dawn supergroup on the Guardian server.
Issue Number One focuses on Galatea Powers, one of the three so-called "exile" characters that found themselves over in the "City of" universe. How they got here will be explained in Issue 2.
Clicking on the image will open the comic for you to read. Sorry it's in PDF format only.
Let me know what you think of it. -
Actually their Paragon Wiki entry give them a little different spin than just being bad guys. They see themselves as militiamen, still trying to carry out their actual mission from the 1990's.
-
Quote:You're right, it is sort of left hanging. As an aside, I think Hero Corps' role in the game was left dangling a bit as well.
I think part of the problem is that the devs have one too many "support" groups in the game. You have Freedom Corps, which are the "official support" people, you have Manticore's secret (don't tell anyone) mercenary group called Wyvern, you have the Sky Raiders acting as a militia group in places like Terra Volta, you have the Legacy Chain showing up in the Hollows...
It's easy to see how Hero Corps gets left passing out difficulty levels and the occasional mission (Atlas Park) and the store (Steel Canyon). Maybe this can be resolved in subsequent updates? -

I've been working on a couple of comics myself. I've been using MS Publisher 2003 for the layout and then printing to the freeware PDFCreator for the Adobe document. I've got a low-res sample page here.
Do you guys have any suggestions where I could publish this that would get the most "City of" readers? Or would you rather I stuck with deviantART?
Oh, and thanks for the suggested legal disclaimer. I'll be sure to add it to my work. -
Quote:My thought exactly on that.My thought in reading his article was: "Why did you bother?" I mean, look at each of his 'What needs to be done to fix it' sections: pretty much each one amounts to him saying, "I have absolutely no idea."
Wow, way to bring to light "problems" and not offer any solutions. What a moron. -
Came across an interesting article about how someone thinks that the MMO worlds are "broken". This goes back to January, so, yes you self-appointed forum cops, I know it's not "breaking news". But my article in RETORT to that IS new, so take that and stick it someplace where the Rikti dare not 'port.
This is the original article...

And THIS is my retort, using CoX images of course, AND CoX experiences...

Quote:Hey, D_R is the GOLD STANDARD for CoX!! (Yes, Michelle, I mean that.) Even the devs have a hard time keeping up with her.Jeez, seriously dunno how I missed that. I thought I checked all the new videos by you.
I was gonna shoot you a YouTube mail asking if I could do a reference to your Catastrophe guys down the line (if I don't get sidetracked from continuing City of rejeX too much). Like 3-4 Issues away, I believe.
It's not that I don't think anyone likes them, it's that they're not really that professional... (compared to say something like Dark_Respite's or quite a few other jaw-dropping CoX vids I've seen around)
And yes, please feel free to reference los bros Catastrophe since I dropped in a nice shout-out to your productions. -
Quote:Are you kidding? Have you seen Major Catastrophe yet?I'm just a novice, but been trying my hand at creating videos in my free time lately (which I really don't have a lot of).
Mind you, my immaturity and amateur skills are reflected in City of rejeX if ya watch it.

All these can also be seen on My YouTube Page if need be.
My apologies on the lame username.....

Someone likes your vids... that's for certain. -
I second the call to bring in Michelle/Dark_Respite/Samauraiko. Her works are FAR FAR FAR better than anything I have ever come up with.
BUT just in case, if you have the time you should mull these about...

(Hey, Michelle DID suggest we all chime in, right?) -
My latest video is up.

This is the second Intermission special for "Ask Captain Catastrophe" as Episode 13 goes into production. Much like the first Intermission special, a certain hint is given. What is it? You'll have to look carefully. -

Quote:1. Floors (So that we can finally build multi-level rooms, without having to stack items FOREVER)
2. Water Effects (I want a pool/pond in my base! And no, I do not want to use a slow field to accomplish that.)
3. Walls (It should be possible to create walls that are not a full square thick.)
There is so much more that I would like to see for bases, and hopefully some will make it to live in the NEAR future.
I second this. -
When HASN'T it happened for me?
A good question to ask is where you are during this. Are you near Wentworth's or AE? If you're in Atlas Park and heading towards City Hall, is there a costume contest going on? Is there a Rikti Invasion or a Zombie Apocalypse?
A quick way for me to get mapservered out of play is to simply go to Wentworth's while five or six idiots are running every buff and debuff power they have in a continual loop ('cuz it looks so kewl!) while you're just trying to sell some of your salvage. And you'd like to do something that would violate our little online code of conduct, but by the time you finish typing in "PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR FRAGGING BUFFS!" you're back at the login screen.
So any of that going on for you? -
Any opportunity to have you back doing what you do best is a treat, D_R.

Quote:ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Let us down? NEVER!!!All right, my devoted fans... you asked, now you shall receive.
"No Limits", my Issue 16 trailer, is now available on YouTube, and my website's Video page.
Thank you for keeping the faith... I hope I didn't let any of you down.
