Quote:Definately a case of art immitating life hereMs. Liberty. Managing to get a paramilitary force OK'd, deploying it to attack not only the citizens of a foreign country (where she has no authority) but people in her own city (since when is the appropriate response to a baseball bat or dagger a minigun or flamethrower?) and not have anyone bat an eye.

Just adding my vote to the
THIS IS A BAD BAD BAD IDEA AND SUX!!!
That is all. -
* To be read as a joke* I think AT needs to wory less about people making replies and running rampant with the rumours of upcoming tanker changes. Who do they think they are, ?i mean, in a world of interwebz what the heck are we supposed to be, how would we feel fulfilled if we couldnt go on and on and on all day about a supposed rumour. Why is this person deliberatley spoiling our enjoyment of a main past time in down time or when we can't get on. I think we should ignore this damp squid spoiling our rumoured fun and get rumouring. I think The damage cap on tanks needs to go to 700% at least, along with and increade to 110% base and put its base defence to 50%, the same with its resistance, all its powers should be one shot AOE's ignoring the 1 shot rule. there, lets have fun and discuss. *end of fun bit*
On a lighter note, even pre brute nerf, tanker buff at joining I read I wouldn't have been fussed. I play what I like mainly. CoH has always been more of a concept type game to me but if they were going to do something I would think that incarnate slotted Tanks could do with an aggro cap increase. They seem like low damage scrappers and brutes in the end game with everyones defences maxed out these days, they like defenders have fallen back in the end game, thats all I see, both could do with something. But only at the end league style game, in the normal game I can't see any differance really. -
Quote:going by the time of your post it sounds like weekly maintenance. If you were able to force start the game it may have been just after bringing the servers back up but before the update server is up.
EXCEPT young padawan, here in the UK it happens at midday, this was from 7am onwards, I am not totally cabbage looking and have been playing since 05 and been through some nightmares with this game, highs, lows and everything in between, from the majorly reported and ignored bugs on their Ultramode that put many of us out of the game to some really amazing scenes of lag in everyones colour coded hami raid cossies. So forgive me for dismissing your reply out of hand, but it the US is was still nighty night time when all this happened. -
Anyone else having problems with the updater and it not finding the update server and having to annoyingly force start the game?
I know CoH is a pita to run graphically and the updater has always been a weak part of the system and annoying as heck, but this is a real pain now. Ran fine last night and the past few weeks since I came back. -

Having played since 2005 and on coming back after a 2 year sabatical taking in several other titles I have to say, it is good to be back. Even though I lost my global names on my US account, which has my old posting rights and my EU account which I made this forum account on as I VIP'd back with this one.
Having seen several other games and having played and unlocked everything but Hybrid so far (love the solo Incarnate content, if you had done this to start I wouldn't have left in the first place )...and really really resisting releasing more than the 2 characters I have with the unlock button, it is hard hehe, total altaholic with 200+ characters accross those accounts, I have noticed several QoL things that would be of great use to me, and maybe lots of others.
1. An in game Clock and calander.
I love this feature on almost every game I have played, all the guilds/groups etc I have played with used the calander and a clock was great to see right in front of me, just under something usually I moved to the top right hand corner and a calander as a drop down menu. Very useful and a bit of a QoL thing, not essential but great to have.
2. Cooldown Timers for Rewards
With the ammount of currencies and rewards, along with their associated missions to get...all with cooldown timers of 20hours, it gets really really annoying. A couple of games I played allowed mods to allow addons to show this or had in game timers showing it at one glance. Another way to change this would be to have a arbitary reset time rather than a timer, or an ammount of times you could claim the reward within a week, ie reset to reset.
3. LFG Indicators
All well and good queing up, but a small indication of how many others were queing as well would be good, also is this cross server or not. So at a glance you can see how many randoms you are waiting on.
4. A QoL bug fix update
Could we have someone please please go through the consolidated list of annoying bugs, like when you are on the Chantry outer lip you cannot use teleport powers or teleport attacks. This has been there for years and should have been fixed ages ago, especially as in the same arc you can use them on a ship up in the air hehe, but I knew about the chantry years ago.
5. Reward Salvage Indicators
With invention salvage you get all sorts of useful info when you have a pices of salvage that can be used in a recipie you have on you unless you disable it. When the reward window for Incarnate salvage pops up it would be really useful, if only for the currently equipped Ipowers, that if you had something that told you what was useful for the next tier rather than go through several pop up windows. I know this would only be useful for us returning or new players, but by the same token as the IO salvage, having a disable button to stop the established fully slotted T4s not be annoyed with it might be good to.
Thats 5 to get started with, happy to be back. -
I have been playing since Oct 05, I have 2 accounts and 25 lvl 50s accross those accounts and probaly over 200 alts there to. It isn't hard to get to 50, they in fact reduced the requirement to lvl 20 well before Freedom.
By that argument you have therem they would have to give everyone a month for every lvl 50 they had, thats nice, 25 months free VIP time... I think not. Maybe something like a 30 day free IO access deal per 50, now that would be a nice subtle reward they could do for non VIP players. -
Quote:And all TFs and Trials have followed this pattern....Till issue 20It's not a "good thing" when you fail; it's good when you learned why you failed.
I'm sure (and know somewhat) when Hamidon was first introduced tons of char. toons failed/died....but once they had a strategy, bam, now Hamidon is "easy".
Learning from your (not you specifically) mistakes is the key. -
Quote:You obviously didn't read all of the posts, getting the incidentals is not the problem, it never has been. Inf and enhancements along with insps have dropped since ....well almost forever, so killing the mobs is not the problem and getting the individual rewards. It is getting part of a reward, that by its definition, can contribute to getting you the big reward.Have you ever done a mission and were beating up on mobs (Getting xp/etc) and then failed the mission (due to whatever reason, timed, actually failing it, etc...)?
You still kept the xp that you got from the mobs right? Or does your character give the xp back when you fail somehow?
Edit: and as others have said, there are more trials coming (at least 2 that we know of).
Put it this way...in theory, you can actually fail every single Incarnate Trial in the game, and still fill it up as you go with failures.
How Heroic is that.
Now please understand that there is a big differnace between the xp , insps etc that drop and Merits, which you gain on a successful run of a TF or Trial. Now you don't have to be successful to win in this game.
That is just silly, a successful hero apprehends the villains, a successful villain robs the bank, thos in between do itr for themselves or whatever motivates them. They only get the rewards for been successful.
Well, Paragon have just now said...You don't have to be successful to succed with us anymore...way to go...how.....well, I think you should by now understand where I am coming from. -
Quote:It is not the fact that there is some endgame now in the game that is the problem Irish, it is how it has been implimented that is the problem.I am still somewhat new to the game so please correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that prior to issue 19 there was no endgame to speak of. A lot of people are complaining that two consecutive issues (and quite likely the two after these) are focusing entirely on end game. To me it seems that after 6 or so years of nada, it was due a few issues. The people who wanted endgame waited 18 issues for their turn. I say let them have a few, the game the rest of us love is still here, and still expanding.
I wholeheartedly loved the fact that they were doing the Incarnate system. The execution of it is the problem.
Having an endgame is not the problem.....it is the form it now take that is. -
Quote:Claws, I used to love this game with a passion and I have even Alpha slotted 7 of my 50s on the EU server already. I am a bit mad with myself to, got really into a new game from headstart, something I have never done before, I usually wait a month or 2. But it's not that the have an endgame now. It is just how it works. The game is still here.
Therefore: The people who predicted that Issue X or Feature Y would be the death of the game in the past have been completely wrong. And that simple fact is not stopping anyone from crying doom now.
So far, it has just been "I hate this new thing". But that's how all the "This will kill the game" doomcrying started before too.
I suppose there is a slight possibility that they may be proven right this time, but the chance is pretty minute.
I give it about a week before the first "This is killing the game" thread appears, maybe (probably) less than that.
I like to do everything on at least one or 2 characters. Faceplanting continuously becasue they can't be bothered to make nice inovative content and use gimmicks instead is not one of them. I don't care if I wipe as I am learning. But what are you learning when they just mass the gimmicks so you need the new powers to do the content.
This could have been oh so much better. But they just seem to be forgetting why people like me and I don't know how many more actually play this game. I love all the TF's so far, don't like most of the trials as they always seem to be more gimmicky, but I have tried everything in the game at least once apart from maybe one or 2 TFs for one reason or another.
The building and execution of this issue just flies in the face of everything they have done before. I am not afraid of change, was worried about some things, pointed out a few things they did wrong (AE anyone) in the past, but they tend to ignore a lot of feedback anyway, and some bugs you report in closed beta that make it to live to, butthats by the by.
Progression Raiding should not exclude peopl;e at the point of entry. Yes by definitition it resets onec a week usually, but the people that beat out of 10 encounters 1 to 6 the week before can still have people join them on a new run the week after as the encouintersa are geared up for the entry level to start. SO's with Alpha Slot beginner slotted. That should have been the starting point.
Not die die die...oh you still got some xp and rewards...die die die.
Oh byem have fun -
Quote:Well I assume you haven't been fed yet, can you not work out that this issue is called Incarnates...who have 2 trials to ammuse themselves on. I know about the token TF/SF thrown in to.....Your whole argument falls flat here. Not only did this issue have those trials, it also gave a new TF and a new SF for those levels between 1 and 50. So, if you do not wish to partake of the endgame (like the other "90%" of the playerbase), then you have options to do so.
--Rad
I have no problems with end games in any game. The way it has been implimented in this game just beggers belief.
You can fail and still get rewarded and the marvelous endgame here involves running just TWO Trials over and over and over and over....
Well if you are very happy with that then go knock yourself out, have fun with it. Go grind it 5 times a night till your eyes bleed and be happy.
I for one am not happy with this. They have made themselves a paradox of grining and loosing but still getting rewards.
It's not even learning the tactics that is the problem, people know them.
It is the way you are all...Alpha Slotted and IO'd to the hilt with billions of inf spent or SO's only....reduced by gimmicls to been wiped and given token rewards till you get slotted with these new powers....that ONLY work on these two grindfests to actually complete it properly.
You don't have to learn the tactics...go to the forums, read them, print them out, have them next to you as you fight. Won't help you though till you get all those new powers and then you stand a chance on a random LFG tool.
Serious failure and let down in my opinion. But if you're happy you go for it. I for one am not, I am oh so happy I didn't do a 6 month sub like I was actually going to, and I am out of here on the 9th, well just the forums till then.
One TF for everyone and Two limited Grindfests, nice really for the time they had I suppose but not progression raiding where they could of had the Alpha slot beginner slotted and SO's as the entrance benchmark and gone from there with proper tactics and a few differant ways you could complete it, but no, they went for the happy endgame most of you seem ok with.
Depressing really what people will be happy with these days. -
Quote:Well it's a moot point now anyway, I am not going to stand around paying money into a game that is trying to reinvent itself for the sake of a minority. If you don't like it don't do it. It's not like the trials are the only content is Issue 20. The game that existed on Monday is still there. If you enjoyed that, then I don't understand what's changed to create this much ire.
This game used to always be about inclusiveity, ever since I started playing in 2005. I has 2 EU accounts and a NA account at one point. But I guess the 1000's of hours put in was fun till this started. Oh well, enjoy your grind and have fun in these huge faceplantfests.
Yes, the old game is still there,
It will get older and older as the blindly devote their time to new and exciting grindfests that shut out anyone that hasn't completed the previous Incarnate Slots till you all forgot that we played this game for,
fun. -
-
Just a quick question in case anyone knows, but will we be able to merge a NA account with an EU account when we get access to all the servers on one account.
Many apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but a link if anyone has one would be great
Thanks in advance. -
After mod 5 closed the last thread saying all the heated discussion was Flaming, well that got me thinking.
I know Positron doesn't like critisism really, bit like the boss in Clichequest haha...joke btw.
But these Trials for Incarnates are just masquerading as endgame content. Why do I come to this conclusion you may ask. Well to me, Trials, apart from the Villains Respec, have always been the weak cousin of the Task Force. In task Forces you progress accross a variety of Missions, facing progressively harder foes, till at the end you face your biggest challenge of all.
Why on earth are you doing them as two trials....an entire ENDGAME ISSUE OF TWO TRIALS.
They are not even progression raids. Worst of all heroes (and villains) can still progress for failing them.
Imagine it "It's ok Superdude, 9 out of the 10 bombs still went off, but you did manage to save 2 of the 100 people and apprehend one of the villains, here's your key to the City, you managed to perform like this the last 50 times in action so despite all the loss of life because we put our trust in you , You still win"
I don't mind the incidental random drops on any TF or Trial, its part of this games loot system, but before major rewards were only given out for success. Now you to can become omnipresent in failure.
Also, City of Heroes is taking an alarming direction change. Do you honestly think 90% of the playerbase is here for endgame and raids. Yes they all like a new TF evey issue or 2, a nice lvl 50 one pls, but all the ones inbetween 1 and 50 are great to, nice lore, nice new content...maybe a nice new shiney powerset or two to play about with and some new cossie pieces and the majority of your playerbase is fine.
I took a break last year due to financial constraints, moving and my irl friends fancied having a go at that game that no one likes to talk about, the fantasy one. It was just after you changed the graphics package on a 5 year old game and annoyed a few people as ther machines that were working fine one day stopped been good enough to give the same look the next.
City of Heroes will always probably be my favourite MMo to be honest.
But with these so called endgame raids, I don't know anymore. -
If people don't already realise that many people are not happy with this issue because it has changed the main direction of thgis game since it was created.
It could have been implimented differantly. They could have mattered to normal gameplay, but they don't really. They appear only to work against TF's at 50 and these silly TF's that need you to grind and die...not grind or die.
It has added another level of currency, well done, not another one, in addition to the new Incarnate one in the last patch, again well done, which seems to be the yway thisz lot go. New issue, new currency to sit with the others.
City of Heroes, to me, was all about inclusion. The Super Side Kicking is, prehapse, the best feature of any game I have played, and before that the side kicking.
XP in TF's even when exemplared....brilliant.
IO's....excellent, not a loot system as such but still a loot system, nicely differant ans Superheroesvillany type.
AE...well, they were a bit nieve here, and Positron even had his mini breakdown there, and they had to announce Goin Rogue to distract everyone there, remeinded me a bit of some of the Clichequest there hehe. But they eventually nerfed...erm, rebalanced that to be correct. ( to me any change after release to reduce capability or rewards should be viewed as a nerf....alpha's and beta's are for balancing, if you release it ignoring feedback and allowing people to do stuff you just didn't thing they would use of for, it's a nerf)
Many other excellent features have been implimented to, but all had an "Inclusive" nature to it.
Now, they release something you cannot just jump into and function properly. "But don't worry in a few weeks time you can" This was never really seen in City of Heroes before. We have to actually get differnent tools to do this. We have to Grind the same 2 TFs time after time after time.
We have not had to do this before really.
Merits for IO's...all TF's, Story Arc's and when we got it, the Flashback System, all allowed even the solo player to benefit from this system.
The Alpha Slot mission was soloable or very easy to duo. That and you could get some drops to make the enhancement for your Alpha slot off any 50, but if you did TF's you got them faster.
This new direction is what is against the whole way CoX has operated in the past...apart from the seriously stupid hami.
People needed to LEARN TACTICS, NOT GET NEW POWERS AND ENHANCEMENTS BY BEEN FORCED TO RUN TASKFORCES TO GET THEM!!!!!
And not just one or 2 times, they can't run all the TF's in the game and collect a bucketload of merits. They cant go and do flashbacks solo for some merits to buy that IO recipie solo, differnat ones at that.
They now have to run the same 2 TF's time after time to unlock these till i21 and the next TF grind is wheeled out.
Sound Familiar now, well this game never had one way to get stuff really before.
Apparently they are balancing around IO's now, and appear to have balanced these 2 new TF's around that AND been decked out in the new Incarnate Abilities. Shame on them, they said they would only ever balance around SO's. This is a slippery slope. Common parts seem to be now massed to hit buffs, def debuffs, -regen and -res as part of the npc's package. It must just auto fill as they add encounters these days to any enemy.
That is what people are complaining about. End game raids are ok in most games, this game was always the haven for people to come and have fun. What they are changing this game into is not why most people who still do played this game or came back to it. If you are differantg then you must be in the wrong game as gear grinds are -----> -

Quote:I'm with Bill on this, might be post one for this one, couldn't somehow reactivate my forum account, it's liked to my NA account and I reactivated my EU account the other month. You know what they say about assuming, correct?
I'm the one who, for instance, LIKED having full strength Voids and Quantums. So don't ASSume that I'm complaining about difficulty. I *liked* taking Trapdoor - who had others complaining about difficulty - down on a g-damn GRAV KIN on SOs.
I DISLIKE the whole "raid for gear to raid for gear" crap. You can't grasp how this is different from "well, you get merits you can use for IOs for Khan, too!" Yeah, well, I can also run Khan perfectly fine on SOs. I don't NEED IOs for Khan. Khan isn't balanced with the idea that you'll end up with an IOd out build. Khan isn't designed with the idea that you'll rerun it over and over and over and over and over and over and over to unlock those IOs, then churn it some MORE to get merits to make it reasonable.
I can run Khan on pretty much any character with *anything* slotted and have an enjoyable time. I don't go into Khan "expecting to fail so I can get stuff to do better next time."
Just looking at my 50s - the only ones who can run this content - I have 24 of them. I have to have a decent (and full, if last night's runs had anything to say about it) team to have a chance at doing anything but failing. I have to run it four times (given the "incarnate XP") to unlock ONE slot, four more for the other, then hope I've managed to "win" at some point to not have to grind *even more* for components - and if I need a level shift, I either have to have more INF on *each* of them than most have for a single uncommon COMPONENT, or hope that maybe a team will succeed to save that. Four times each. Eight times for one tree, then eight times (with different salvage, of course) for the OTHER tree, then if I'm short "threads," grind some more.
And as I've said elsewhere - I'd ignore this, but given the Dev comments ("Hmm, what could be COMING that would have the well worried?") it sounds like I'll need to grind through this nonsense to see the *future* content evolving the game lore.
You don't like me complaining, tough. I don't like where all this is pointing, and I don't like the design. We haven't HAD to grind with an "expect to fail until you get the stuff to do this" mentality before. We haven't had a "Well, once you have THESE IOs you can win" before.
People complained about trapdoor out of being tough - I didn't. I soloed him on SOs. I AM NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT DIFFICULTY. I *am* complaining about the formerly, thankfully missing grind for gear to raid for gear to raid for gear nonsense getting added to this game.
Edit:
Also in a non-Khan fashion - how about "Well, there's a part of the encounter you need to get temp powers you might, MAYBE, get during the mission?" Three acids on the entire team. Since we weren't a full 12 or whatever it was, we had zero stun grenades for Marauder. That's sucktastic game design. "Oh, and fight your way to MAYBE get new ones, too."
But, hey, I shouldn't complain, that's just *wonderful* design. Here, let me hoover up to a dev for it.
But This games strength was its lack of needed gear to see content.
You can kiss goodbye to that now. All of you happy about this go ahead and cheer, but this puts me off recontinuing my sub. I have been more than happy to unlocck the alpha on 6 or 7 of my 50s so far, but I am not going to grind tfs with people for no good reason just because it unlocks a new shiney. In other games you only need 5 people to see a lot of the end game content and at the most 10 or 20. Their games don't teand to go laggy when you have a full team and spawns all over, unlike this one.
I thought the Hami was just one great big ball of dog mess when it ignored all the players abilities just to be hard. Now it looks like we have whole TF's that do it...and unlike the Hami, you need to do them to level.....great....well done devs, what a sucktastic idea. Makes me wish I hadn't come back
