Thanks, for the tips, Rodion.
I've known some of that - don't bother herding on teams, don't try to aggro more than one group, pull one away if they're close if possible, etc.
I may swap out Burn for GFS, as it's true the only times I use it are on teams with controllers, or against snipers or other non-running enemies. It's just so fun in those cases.
As for IOs, I'm hoping with the recent patch the prices on dropped recipies will come down so I can get some good sets at a reasonable cost. I've already seen it with (most) salvage, which saves me the trouble of having to hoard commons so my crafting character can make generic IOs for my other alts. -
Thanks, I really do appreciate the writeup. I'll read over your detailed blog post in a bit.
One question though; you said:If I'm not running out of power pools (your build only uses three plus APP), why not take CJ + Fly? I only use Fly for travel, and never while fighting (I use CJ is for combat movement). -
I have some Winter's Gift IOs left over, I could slot one of those. I cant' affort LotG recharges, and I can't find a space in my build for Hasten or Weave, and certainly not if I want to have any slots in them.
And I wasn't even talking any "serious TF"s, I was talking about regular teams doing regular missions. Are fire tanks really that worthless?
Here's my current build (IO levels not exact, but pretty close):

I've been working on a Fire/Fire tank (my first serious attempt at playing a tank), currently 38, and while it's great for soloing massive hordes of weaker enemies, it seems to be less than stellar in team situations.
On many teams, I have trouble staying alive. I take damage faster than I can heal it, and if I get hit with slows I'm pretty much dead unless I have plenty of insps. If there's another tank on the team, they almost always do fine, soloing spawns I have trouble surviving with the group's support. I generally have to use RotP at least once a mission.
I have my armors and Tough slotted with 3 resists plus endred, I have a -KB IO in Combat Jumping, and I have Healing Flames with 3 recharge and 3 heal.
I've been told fire tanks aren't good as tanks. I was even "informed" (I got kicked from a forming TF) that the only way a fire tank can really tank is if they have Hasten and are fully IO'd; otherwise they're essentially a leech.
I don't want to take Hasten (I don't have the spare power choices or slots anyway). I can't yet afford to be fully IO'd. Do I really need both to do tank with fire, or am I just incompetent at tanking? -
Yep, I was on a team that ran into this the other night. At one point we were fighting 4 or 5 of them in one of the lab equipment rooms.
They all seemed to use fire blast, and I was on my fire tank, so it wasn't a problem as long as I could keep them focused on me, but it was hard to do so as I wasn't the only tank on the team. -
Quote:Depends on a lot of things. If Fearsome Stare is recharged (I can toss one out about every 20 secs on my build), I'll send one his way, and that will make things manageable long enough for us to get over to him. I may switch Darkest Night to the group he's fighting also, or if it's recharged resummon Fluffy to that group to give him a hand, or run over to heal him myself if needed. And if he goes down before I can do any of that, well, Howling Twilight has a side effect of acting as a rez.Let us say you are the primary mitigation factor on a team. You are working on a spawn. The blaster jumps into the next spawn, even though you are still busy. This never happens to you?
-
It's possible he can't tell us more now due to potential exploits (who knows what those could be; they might not be something obviously related). Once the patch hits live, though, he'd better fess up and tell us what the secret was.
-
Quote:I haven't seen this with my Dark/Dark, at least not from mid-levels on.It's a switch-off. With an enemy-based debuffer, the team has to pay attention to what the debuffer has targetted.
I open with Fearsome Stare (which hits a huge area), and most enemies just start cowering. I then drop Tar Patch, then Darkest Night. Perhaps Petrifying Gaze if there's one enemy that can be problematic (Sappers...), then I start attacking, generally with TT and Night Fall, and renewing Fearsome Stare when needed. If Fluffy runs into the group as he often does (if he doesn't and he's recharged I'll often summon him into it) his aura is debuffing everything as well, not to mention his own powers. The only thing that even slightly matters as far as my target is Darkest Night, and that recharges so fast it's no big deal to do it again.
Here's my current build. Not the best, I'm sure, but I manage to do quite well keeping teams alive.

Incidentally, this is still happening in Issue 16 open beta, on Win7 RTM. I can look at the ground and time my clicks and set the options if I need to change them, but it's still both very odd and somewhat annoying.

Quote:Sounds like Obfuscating Stupidity to me.M I Abrahms: I found Boisterous Bruiser which overs his outward behavior, and I just saw the Stephen Ulysses Perhero one a few minutes ago. That one would be a subversion, though since his SuperHero name (Michael Ian Abrahms) was chosen because he's too damn BIG to have a plausible secret identity. However, the trope I was really looking for was that the Boisterous Bruiser was really just an act, and the character actually has a good grasp of tactics, and a solid intellect, and is plying teh Big is Dumb mentality to catch his foes off guard.

Quote:Oh yes, please! And can we have a link after the last post in a thread to return to the index?
When I've finished reading a thread I now have to go all the way back up to the top of the page to return to the thread index.
I know it's minor, but it was a nice QoL feature on the old boards. -
The dev digest is broken and is showing HTML code.
The avatars being 100x100 instead of 80x80 is going to throw some people off, including anyone that uses City Info Tracker, at least unless/until they adjust it (I'm glad I made myself a couple sizes of mine already). Also, having the left 80%ish of the avatar box filled with gray makes transparent avatars look funny.
The background being a sort of dark teal instead of black is starting to get annoying, and it's less readable than white-on-black or black-on-white.
In the forum index, the big star icons next to each forum are about twice as large (in each direction) as they need to be, making the page much taller (needing more scrolling) than it ought to be.
Emoticons (and post icons) were designed for white or light backgrounds and show an ugly light "halo" around their black outline. They need to be re-edited (I can do this myself later tonight if I get bored enough, or there are probably a godzillion other icon sets out there that don't have this problem). -
Quote:Ah, thanks! That's one concern handled. This link is what you want to bookmark to have the forums expanded.
-
I can put up with the new colors (though I think I preferred the old), but I really liked the way the old boards had all the categories expanded, so I could navigate between sections more quickly by just going to the master index; it's an extra step now, unless I'm missing an option to expand them.
Also, dev digest is broken and is showing HTML code.
Finally, the avatars being 100x100 instead of 80x80 is going to throw some people off (I'm glad I made myself a couple sizes of mine already).
Edit: Also, having the left 80%ish of the avatar box filled with gray makes transparent avatars look funny. -

Can't go back to 181 drivers on my notebook - the win7-64 nvidia drivers for notebooks don't have that option. I tried disabling aero (actually all visual effects, which made it look like win2k) and that didn't make any difference at all.
-
Happens in both windowed and full screen, single account, aero is on, I'll try it off and with the earlier drivers later tonight.

To me, this is one step removed from letting us shoot our powers out of devices of our choice, provided BABs wants to give every dang powerset a weapon choice

I think you just blew my mind even more than the devs already had with this possibility. Sure, it would be more work, but with what they're doing I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't at least be possible now.
Suggestion when the devs have time for it (post-GR, I'm guessing): alt animations for ranged powers where it's shooting out of a wand or staff. -

I'd uninstall the device, reboot and try to get the drivers to install cleanly. You can run CoH Helper again and look for that entry to see if it is working right. If it is you'll see a real date there.

It's possible it's corrupt, or it may be because I didn't have the headset turned on when I ran this. However, this problem has been happening longer than I've had the headset, and my desktop doesn't have bluetooth at all, let alone a bluetooth headset. -
Was actually running the 185 drivers to start with, and updated to the 186 hoping it would fix this issue.

OK, was hoping someone knew something off hand before posting the walls of text, but here they are if anyone wants to look over them. This is for my notebook (I'm at work now and can't post the one for my desktop until tomorrow morning).

I'm having a rather odd issue on both the computers I play on.
Nearly all the time, the game runs fine. However, when I go to Options and go to the Graphics And Audio tab, as long as it's on that tab my framerate drops to about 1/40th what it normally is, making it nearly impossible to adjust any settings. Once I navigate away from the tab, it works fine.
This happens on both my notebook (core 2 duo, geforce 8600M, 4G ram) and my desktop (core i7, geforce 260, 6G ram).
Both systems are running Windows 7 64-bit RC (build 7100) with all updates.
I've tried both 185 and 186 nvidia drivers and that doesn't seem to make any difference.
I tried the registry fix (tdrdelay, etc) in the sticky, and that didn't have any effect that I saw.
This happens on my home cable modem, a friend's DSL, and using a tethered cell phone.
Anyone have any ideas? I wasn't able much else to try. -

Powers can be individually customized per costume slot, but not supergroup mode.

I <3 you, BaB.
Though as I mentioned in another thread, this makes me wonder what happens to the coloring of toggles (armors, rad and dark debuffs, etc) or clicks with durations (bubbles, pets, etc) when someone changes their costume while it's up.
