Hi,
Could someone please help me tweak my build for a DM/SD to soft cap him? I like how all his other numbers are, but his Melee/Ranged/AoE defenses are at 42%. I would at least like to get Melee defense to softcap. Thanks in advance.

Here's my build for my Elec/SD and it works great for farming. I'm just still working on getting the last few LotG: Recharge Speeds. I've spent over a billion on him so far, but after you get everything, you'll probably end up spending 1.5 bil or a bit more.

Thanks Laevateinn! It's a great build which had everything that I wanted, so I'll keep it just the way it is and go ahead and use that.

I have two builds, one with the Body epic and one with the Blaze epic pool. I've looked around at a lot of builds here on the forums, and I can't find one that includes everything that I'm looking for.
Overall, I like my build with the Body epic pool better, it has better Recovery, Regen, Recharge, and is soft capped (except I think AoE defense is at 49.9%), but I really want a farming build that includes Hasten and the Fire epic. My problem is that I can't seem to fix my /Blaze build to have the numbers that I want it to have.
Here are the two builds, the first one is the /Body, and the second one is the /Blaze. I could really use some help with fixing the /Blaze build to have better numbers, or to change the /Body build so that it will include /Blaze instead.

Cool, thanks. So I decided I'll just go with the build without Energy Torrent. Here's a build I fixed up, looking at your's, which I found on the forums. I'll just take a respec so I can keep all the IO sets I have on him now, and put them on the new build. Most things are the same, just a few changes and much better numbers. Here's the build, any advice? By the way, I'm trying to get one more slot into Energy Torrent so I can put another Positron's Blast into it to get the 6.25% Recharge bonus, if anyone can somehow fix that, that'd be great!

Skip FA entirely, you won't have the endurance for it (and nevermind Mid's complaining that you can't do that, it's a bug in Mid's). I'd post my own build, but as it is now it looks terrible (he's half updated to the new IOs, have using older Hamis... in short, he's a mess), but I can say that you might not want to bother with the high defense slotting you have, as you'll benefit more (on a farming build, especially an AE farming build) from Recovery and Recharge. It'll be important to slot your attacks well both for endurance (because your cones are very high end cost), and recharge (as they'll be part of a regular attack chain). Procs will add a lot to your damage since you'll be hitting a lot of enemies. I added the Armageddon proc to quills and kept the Posi procs in Throw Spines and ET (though at the cost of recharge; I'm leaning heavily on a fair bit of global recharge).

Quote:Hi,Well, I don't know who Santorican is, and I haven't really seen his build, but I've been running a Spine/Dark for a long time now, so the suggestions I give are from my own play time. Your build looks a lot like one I played a while back before I started making some odd changes that have worked out well over time. These might sound a bit unorthodox, but they're all things I've tested very thoroughly against Council (my normal farm) and Demons (my alternate).
1) GET ENERGY TORRENT. I can't emphasize this strongly enough. Entering a group should be Energy Torrent > Throw Spines. This will ensure that most of the mob is still on its back when you enter, which nullifies the alpha and keeps your mitigation needs to a minimum. Once you hit them with the first spine burst, all minions should be dead or very close.
2) I can appreciate the want to max defense, however you're spending a lot of resources on it and in the end it won't (or shouldn't, if you're farming the right things) be a big benefit. My current build runs with 9% defense (terrible by any measure) and has no problems with dying. You'll be relying heavily on your self heal, but being that it's the best self-heal in the game and is up all the time (especially with decent recharge), it's very much up to the task. Energy Torrent will also help with this. My suggestion would be to drop Weave and Combat Jumping, and cut back on the slots on Build Up and Impale (and anywhere else where a sixth slot was used just to get a defense bonus): those slots are better used elsewhere.
3) Throw more slots into OpGloom, and use the set bonuses on Stupefy to your advantage. They're perfect for a spines farmer.
4) Some things should be updated since it looks like this build was pre-QoL changes: pick up physical perfection, drop Combat Jumping.
5) This is probably my most unorthodox choice, but it's served me very well in the end: Drop Ripper. It's big, it's ugly, it's slow, and you should never have the chance to use it. Once you find yourself in a position to, you'll be better off (will hit more people for more collective damage) if you just jump out of the crowd and throw in a Throw Spines or Energy Torrent. They're faster cast, easier to line up, and can get more the pesky short-range attackers that stand outside Ripper's arc. This also frees up a power slot that can be better-used, and (more importantly) five slots that are desperately needed elsewhere.
6) This is a biggie: turn off bosses. Spines/Dark is not the build to take on strong single enemies. You'll kill more quickly and efficiently if you focus down on Lts and below, as very few things will survive your first volley, and those that do will die in the dual damage aura haze and flurry of impales, lunges, and secondary cones that come after. Most groups take a matter of seconds once you get in a good groove (though I usually do +2 x6, which takes a smidge longer), but bosses will only ever get you bogged down.
7) Single slot Obsidian Shield, and move those sets out to Murky or Dark Emb. Speaking of which: Impervium Armor is your friend, as is Steadfast Protection. Both sets give a bonus to Recovery, and if there's one thing Spine/DA needs its recovery. I prefer it to Titanium and Reactive because of that. I go for a 4/2 split Imp and Stead respectively, so that I get the end bonus from Imp.
As you can see, my farming philosophy is: only enough mitigation to keep me alive. This build I'm suggesting will feel squishy at first, but it's more than up to just about any farming you can throw at it, and once you get adapted to its flow, it can be a killing machine. I've refrained from commenting on most of the slotting, but I'll throw some general slotting comments in here at the end: My slotting of Throw Spines and ET are fairly low recharge, so I can't say I agree with the previous poster (maybe my having both and Hasten has helped); keep procs in mind for your Shroud and Quills; slot Dark Regen as an attack and organize your slotting to get some useful set bonuses, as every bit counts with DA.
If you want some purple suggestions, I can give them, but for now just give this a look over and see what you think.

I tried fixing my build with your suggestions, and it got the AoE defense to the cap and kept Melee defense at the cap, but the Ranged defense dropped to 41.4%. Here's the build with your suggestions, maybe you or someone else can still help me out?

Hi,
I was taking a look at my Elec/Shield scrapper's build on Mids', and I noticed that all the defenses are at the soft cap except for AoE, which is at 44.68%. Is there any way of getting the AoE defense to 45%? I'm not sure if this last bit of defense matters, but I'm sure it does. Here's the build I'm using (By the way, I didn't make the build, I found it on the forums).

Hi,
My friend has a level 50 Spines/Dark scrapper that is IO'd out, using Santorican's build that I found here on the forums. He's doing fine on everything, but farming seems pretty slow. He was soloing +1 x8 with bosses and he could do it, but it was slow. I'm not sure why but maybe someone can help me out and give me suggestions of how to make the damage better.

We want to make him a faster farmer, if it's possible. We're comparing his speed to my IO'd out Fire/Kin, so maybe that's an unfair comparison? I'm not sure if this is the best that he will get without all those crazy expensive purple sets.
So, we're really not looking to make him faster by purpling him out. We're trying to keep the build as is and maybe add in more expensive and more useful IO sets that will help the speed of his farming. Maybe a purple set or two, but nothing really expensive. -

By the way, I'm looking for a critique on the build I posted above. I'm not sure about how I slotted Greater Fire Sword and I decided to put Impervius Skin on Tough for more recharge. My whole concept was to hit the soft cap (which I did) and build for the best recharge I could (without any purples).
Let me know what you think because I want to respec him tonight and start IO'ing him. -

I played around with slotting using some help with some other builds. The power selection order is a little screwed up, but that's okay since I'm already 50 and just respec'ing.
I just need help finishing slotting a few more powers and if someone wants to change what I have now (except for the powers, I want to keep those the same).

I've leveled a couple of Fire Melee characters and obviously you're stuck with Scorch. Skippable powers in Fire Melee, I'd put Build Up first on the chopping block, then Breath of Fire. I consider Combustion/Fire Sword Circle the cornerstone of the set and should come ASAP, and I'd also fairly strongly recommend Greater Fire Sword and Incinerate. If you're getting tight on powers Fire Sword would be my next choice to drop.
Boxing/Tough/Weave are part of the defense build so that's one pool and 3 powers. Hurdle/Health/Stamina are a given; another pool and 3 powers. Finally you've your travel power and prereq for a third pool and 2 powers.
Let's see, we're up to 7 powers from the primary, 6 or 7 from the secondary and 8 pool powers. That leaves you with room for 2 or 3 choices from your APP. Picking Pyre Mastery if you get 3 powers then I'd suggest Char/Fire Blast/Fire Ball... if you're stuck with only 2 then I'd probably be tempted to get Ice for Block of Ice and Ice Blast.
In order of selection, I'd build like my first 20 levels guide early and plan on sliding Boxing/Tough/Weave in the late 20's to 32, Incinerate & Greater Fire Sword at 35 & 38 and your APP selections at 41,44 & 47. I'd put Resist Energies at 49. Squeezing in Hasten would cost you (in my opinion) Fire Sword and your third APP selection. Is Hasten worth that trade? That's your call, I'd probably skip it myself and just make up the recharge with conventional slotting; CMA is Inv/Stone and has no difficulty with his attack chain without Hasten; my good attacks come back fast enough with my attack slotting.
I generally slot PBAOE attacks with 5 Scirocco's Dervish (all but the proc) and a common recharge IO. That ED caps damage & almost recharge with over 65% in accuracy... that slotting brings Fire Sword Circle back in a little over 10 seconds with no IO recharge bonuses. Combustion comes back in a little over 7 seconds. Hasten would cut roughly 2.5 seconds off of those times.
I just put together a build (just the powers) because I think the main issue I have is slotting with IOs, because I still can't quite understand what would be the best IO set slotting. So I'm looking for people's opinion's for slotting for this build:

I managed to fit in Scorch, Fire Sword, Combustion, Fire Sword Circle, Incinerate, Greater Fire Sword, Hasten, Char, Fire Blast, and Fire Ball. To do this, I had to get rid of Resist Elements, Resist Energies, and Taunt. I know some of you will have problems with me taking out Taunt, but I think with all those PBAoEs, I'll be fine with aggro.
So let me know if you guys can play around with this build above and get a good slotted build. (By the way, I put 6 slots in Combustion and Fire Sword Circle, and 3 slotted Hasten with Recharge Reductions. If you feel any of this will be unnecessary, feel free to take them out).

Hi,
I have a level 50 Invuln/Fire with only some low SOs, and is untouchable, but is having some real issues with damage. So I'm looking for a whole new build with IOs. I have 205 mil to spend now, but the build can be worth a bit more because I can put some more money together.
I'm looking to be able to farm with this character.

Okay that's what I've been doing with AE's tickets. So I'll probably just stick with that. (I've been doing the Bronze level 35-39 by the way and they are turning out pretty good for me so far).

Blueside, Numina's is actually a pretty poor choice. It barely sells for 70m crafted and costs 250 merits. With a few exceptions, merit purchases in general are bad value for money - the market is cheaper.
But any more opinions on if it's even worth it to do these merit purchases?
