The Isolator Badge reads:
"You began your career on a high note, by personally ending the riots of contaminated thugs in the Outbreak Zone."
However every hero created before Issue 2 has no way to get it! I know there's been some discussion about it, but here's an idea.
Any level 50 hero that speaks to Ms Liberty or Back Alley Brawler will have the opportunity to do a new mission for them. You can only do this mission once and you must be level 50 to gain access to it.
"Hello <hero name>, as a Hero of the City I have a special assignment for you! When you first entered Paragon City the Contaminated in Outbreak were running rampant. Their numbers have grown since and are taking over!
DATA has provided me with a personal Time Travel device that will teleport you back to the time you arrived. But beware <Hero Name>, the contamination has spread! The only powers available to you will be the two you had when you first arrived!
If you stop the Contaminted you will have saved the zone from being overrun in the present! The time travel device only works for one person so you must complete this assignment alone. Return to me for debriefing when you are complete! Good luck!"
As soon as the hero accepts the mission they will transported to the Outbreak map and it will be infested with twice the normal amount of Contaminated! The mission will be to eliminate 250 Contaminated and the mission display will have a counter. The hero will be autoexemped to level one.
The hero takes out 250 of them, gets the badge and a L53 SO. Click mission complete to return to Ms Lib or BAB. Click on them:
"Great job <hero name>! You did it! You stopped the contamination during your arrival to the city and have helped all future generations of heroes. You are a Hero of the City!"
Why the time-travel aspect of the storyline?
To preserve the original intent of the badge "You began your career on a high note.."
[/ QUOTE ]
But you didn't. That's the whole problem. Going back in time to the same time your career started doesn't reverse YOU in time. You're just going to another location, the time is irrelevant as (per your own post), you're level 50. You've done 50 levels of content. Hundred and hundreds of hours of crime fighting. Your career is far from 'fresh'.
The text of the badge is the final word on it. And I support them NOT allowing us to go back and get it. I didn't START my career on a high note. I did what needed to get done and got out of Outbreak.
No matter how you slice it or dice it the badge is very clear as to why it was rewarded. Going back in time doesn't undo everything you've done. It's just relocating your well established hero to the same time they started but is not undoing their career to that point.
Now... all that being said I think it kinda' sucked that they put a badge in like Isolater. They should remove isolator (as realistically the ONLY reason to have hunted that many mobs in Outbreak was for the badge since they don't offer any other reward) and tie it to completing the tutorial or the mission in the tutorial.
That way anyone who's done tutorial gets the badge. The only people this would 'discriminate' against are people who skipped tutorial.
Those would consist of:
1) Older players on new toons. They most likely already know of Isolator and aren't interested. So they wouldn't be getting 'screwed' out of the new badge... they made a conscious choice to skip tutorial.
2) Newbies who think they don't need tutorial. Sorry but not sympathy there. Just like most of us never crack open the games manual and discover a month later that we can do this or that which was covered in the manual, if they opt to skip out of the basic tutorial then they are making a conscious choice to forfeit its content.
Basically, the badge should be related to having completed the tutorial, period.
Isolator: You started your career on a high note. You knuckled up and helped the overwhelmed forces in Outbreak come one step closer to retaking this small area of the city!
Or some such. -

Its all about timing, and grav offers an 2 excellent damage dealers (lift and propel) that keep the target from attacking back, on top of the hold I also have. Gravs AoE attacks/holds really blow, but single target wise its quite excellent.
[/ QUOTE ]
Er... I disagree. I feel lift is a horrible damage power. It's only use is soft control. In fact I'm spec'ing out of it tonight with any luck in place of a power from my secondary - since I use lift as a damage more than soft control.
However I suppose it may depend on your secondary. I use energy so there are plenty of high-damage powers I can put in Lifts place. But Psi isn't 'that' weak that lift is 'excellent' damage. Even slotted I find lift severly lacking.
I have a mind/psi and personally find levitate is MUCH better than lift even though it's basically the same power. That's why I went with lift originally. Oh well.
As far as their AoE Holds... why do you think they suck? I think the recharges are a tad long but what the hell... how fair would it be to be able to lock down EVERY mob you came against in one shot?
Again though this may be a YMMV situation. I always play with my BF who's a fire/fire brute. While locking the whole mob down slows his fury growth it also keeps him alive longer AND once we get a little higher and he gets burn... well I lock down the mob... he runs in, drops a burn... if needed adds fire sword circle and we sit down and laugh.
Oy don't even get me started with adding Power Boost (energy) and Domination. "What's that? You don't EVER want to move again? Sure, I can work with that request."
However solo I guess the holds aren't THAT great unless uber-slotted for hold/recharge so they come up fast and hold long. And the AoE Immob would only be good for keeping someone out of melee range for a short period.
Anyway... I think when it comes to the usefulness of gravs AoE holds/immobs it's really a YMMV situation based on your play situation and style.
As an aside, anyone know how PB/Dom stack? Do they each just add their bonus vs the BASE? Or does it matter which triggers first?
EX: Power Boost adds x to BASE. Dom adds x to BASE.
OR: Trigger PB which adds x to BASE and then Dom which adds x to the combined base/PB total?
OR: Trigger Domination which adds x to BASE and then PB which adds x to the combined base/dom total?
Not that it matters. PB/Dom wether they feed off each other or just add to the base alone are pretty devistating together.
AKA: Point of Balance - Liberty - 24 Grav/Energy Dom -

The most fun i have had in this game besides herding (I just love to do it not for the exp or the inf its just one of my things and it hurts NO one) has been grabing a newbie and taking them on a wild ride of 12, 16 lvls in one night and teaching them along the way. This dose many things. One it helps them learn the game and although its better the Tutoral is still kinda lacking.
[/ QUOTE ]
??? In what universe does skipping 12-16 levels of EXPERIENCE in one night teach you how to play the game?
Give a man a fish he feeds for a day. Teach a man to fish and he feeds for a lifetime. You're not teaching, you're giving.

You can do that without PL'ing them.

so if that person is on a trail or a firends account

Sounds more like speculation from your statement. Do just assume and/or hope that or actually ask them before you powerlevel them?

maybe they will join up and give us more ppl to play with.

Who are going to whine and cry about how hard this game and and who don't know a damned thing about their powers because they got handed 16 levels in one night.

Three it helps train them for when they train other newbies. Ect..
[/ QUOTE ]
No... it hurts them because they are handed a loaded gun and not told how it works. Instead of them being handed the parts of the gun and thrown to the lions where it's "build the gun, learn how it works or die"... it's "here... here's the gun, point and shoot"...

No, we don't. And that's where DISCUSSING tactics comes in. You can't just assume.

DO NOT: PL newbies and think you're doing them a favor. You're not. They're getting spoiled AND you're generating an idiot who doesn't know a damned thing (how the hell can you think handing someone 16 levels in ONE NIGHT is training them?) about his powers or how the game REALLY works. -
[ QUOTE ]
All though i dont run into dwarfs they are better killed from afar. But on the others the nova is the same damage no matter the distance and V&Q's are better to attack from close range because they go to melee and i would rather get hit by a Brawl than a Quantium Weapon. And yes I would be very upset if there were healers on the team and they didnt heal me when i did this.

Void Stalkers melee does more damage than their range... so running into them to avoid the ranged attack is asking for more damage. Noob. -

Well how about other heroes going around clicking glowies in a mish that YOU own. I out of etiquette Never click any glowies in anothers mish. It should be up to the mish owner if he wants the glowies or wants others to have them. And also for the blind invites yes I have no blind invites in my search field for the fact that I am running around doing a few things in game with my own mishs to which I tend to run some of them solo to get them off of my plate and ALOT of the time just because I am in the Hollows or Skyway or Steel does not mean I have time to drop down and do a lowbies mish when I am busy with my own mish and that if you get an invite from some lower lvl it is for either PL purposes or maybe the person is new to the game and does not understand that you are not gonna ride along as a lvl 37 in a lvl 10 mish. I always tend to join a team when a tell is sent or am polite enough to let the person know I am about to log and tell them thank you for the invite. Not all 50s are know-it-all and arrogant. Some of us just enjoy the game for the fun of it

heck, add in another badge too...like the X times the victor badge, have one that changes to show how many Giant Monster's you've defeated. Or make a few badges so you get one for 5 monsters, 10 monsters, etc. That's extra incentive right there to take them on whenever I see them.
e can wait on the artwork, just plop the "exploration" graphic on their and give it a nifty description like:
Monster Hunter Apprentice - You have taken down 5 of the Giant Monsters that sometimes plague Paragon City
or
City Savior - You've defeated 20 Giant Monsters in your career, Tokyo officials have your number on speed dial.

Any chance of a Sniper badge? I hunt those guys as often as I can. I did a search and didn't find any specifics on this type of badge (... in as much as the search feature here works...)
I hate those guys. It gives me GREAT pleasure to hunt them down, especially roof-hopping in Founders Falls and industry-walking in Crey's Folly... Hate em. Have hated em since one of them one-shotted me my first time into Peregrine to have a look-see. B'blam, faceplant, huhwha?!
So yeah. A sniper badge would make me a very happy collector indeed.
I would probably lead hunting parties for them, in fact.

I make it a point when I need to go into FF to tab constantly. Anytime I lock onto a sniper, I land behind him, walk up, /em wave then buildup, aim and thunder strike his dumb [censored] right off the building and watch him fall all the way to the ground. On the off chance he survives I dive down after him and finish him off.
They're a total menace.
I too remember my first time going into PI. This was way way way back I think when the test server first became available. I figured, hey... who cares if something gets me... no real debt... so decided to scout around a bit.
Well... I didn't know snipers existed so I spent 10 minutes writing up a bug about how I was flying and took massive damage from an invisible source and it dropped me instantly. (You'd think I'd have checked my combat log but didn't see an attack... just a huge number appear over my head and the street coming up at me very very fast.)
If they ever have a sniper badge... or you just want to go beat the hell out of every sniper in FF for some stress relief look me up. -

[ QUOTE ]
Also, if all these monsters were meant to be taken down by more than one team, why should only one team get the badge? Forgive me if I'm mistaken, it's been a while since I've tackled a giant monster, but last I checked the badge was only given to the team that does the most damage. This was to prevent, I guess, people from coming in, swatting the thing once and sitting at a safe distance for the badge. And it works nicely for that scenario, but consider this scenario:
Team A: Deals a total of 2000 damage
Team B: Deals a total of 1999 damage
Team A: "WooooO! Badge earned!"
Team B: "@#$%... well, that was a big fat waste. But at least we kept team A's scrappers alive with our defenders."
So I ask in general, but especially if you go around buffing monsters up, let the badge go to all who help to defeat the monster, not just the team with the highest level damage dealers.
Again, strike this completely from the record if I don't have my facts straight. I do know that this does not apply to Lusca, but I'm pretty sure it still goes for Adamaster, Krakens, etc...
[/ QUOTE ]
Currently the badge is given to ANY team or player-not-on-a-team that does 25% or more damage to the Giant Monster.
When Giant Monsters get tougher (Issue 7), this number will drop to 10%(or more), encouraging more teams to fight them. The rewards will be increasing as well.

You might need to buff Giant Monsters then. There's not one in the game that requires more than one team to defeat.

As for Accolades and Exemplaring, it might seem unfair that you lose Accolade powers when you Exemplar, but to others it seems unfair that you HAVE Accolade powers when you Exemplar. Since Exemplar is you "playing yourself at a lower level" it makes sense to take away your Accolades. I don't see this changing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Others have said it but I'm chiming in agreement. This is unfair. Say you guys come up with a new accolade tomorrow... my level 50's don't have the option of earning it before 50. They are going to be awarded tht accolade at 50, whereas my newbies can get it at the earliest possible level.
Same goes for people who were already at 40 when badges came out. (It was issue 1 with the level raise right?) Assuming so, they were instantly discriminated against because they were already so high. Even worse would be if it came out after the level cap was raised.
Bottom line is it creates have and have nots. I have the accolades at the bare minimum level on a lot of my toons because my friends do the hunt badges with me exemplared and I know enough what missions offer what badges.
Joe Newbie has not because he doesn't know a thing about accolades and how they work.
I have them on my lowbies as soon as possible as stated above.
A lot of 50's have not because they didn't get the accolade until they were older for reasons that may have been out of their control.
1) It's discrimination.
2) It creates have and have nots. -

At some point, I would wager that you will have to accept the fact that the Developers decided to add the Gladator attached to Toy Collector after the fact. Bottom line, things will be added to this game always and forever going forward, and this fits quite well in line with the vision (TM) that no single toon can experience all the content there is in the game.
Additionally, Gladiators are being added all the time as a newer feature so some retrospective attachment and awarding is to be expected.
Tell me BL, what would you have the developers do for those of you who skipped the 3+ hours of Toy Collecting because you didn't know there would be a Gladiator attached?
[/ QUOTE ]
Tie it to Cold Warrior which makes more sense.
I'm not asking for Toy Maker. I opted to get that (as I've said) it's just ONE BADGE. I chose not to get it based on the belief it was ONE badge. I would have gotten it on my main had I know it was a twofer deal.
However they should tie it to cold warrior. Makes more sense. ::shrug:: That's just answering your question so please guys don't jump all over me... just answering a question.
[/ QUOTE ]
So, you want the Developers to attach the Snow Beast Gladiator to Cold Warrior, a Badge you earned from defeating 100 Snow Beasts?
I can see the logic behind that as many Gladiators are awarded along with Defeat 100 Badges yet there are a number of them that are connected to other Badges now as well.
You can try and petition it that way. Best of luck to you.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't plan to petition it. I was merely stating my peace, not asking the devs to change their minds. I'd be happy if Posi sees this and going forward he and the devs make every attempt to take into consideration the thoughts of those of us who feel a little cheated on the deal.
It also wouldn't be fair for me to ask them to take away that 'bonus reward' those of you who got the toymaker badge are getting. However, at the time, just as we made an uninformed decision not getting it, you made an uninformed decision getting it. You got it because you wanted it, not because it unlocked an additional badge. In this case though it happens to work in your favor. ::shrugs:: -

Except his analogy still fails.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think that you're not understanding it. I am, in fact, thinking that this hypothetical neighbor rewards you with $20 after you dig out her driveway (or maybe bakes you a batch of cookies). Now, I look at this situation and say, "What I am getting out of this is the satisfaction of doing the good deed and getting some exercise." If that's enough, so be it, if not, then don't do it. The Toymaker badge, the present drops, the temporary powers, and the satisfaction of actually doing a couple-hours grind to get a rare badge that most people blew off is the equivalent to the self-satisfaction of shoveling the driveay.
But oh! Look, after I shoveled the driveway out I got HOMEMADE COOKIES! Yum! Bonus! (maybe it was right after I dug it out, maybe it was weeks later when she started baking.) And in this case we have "oh hey we unbugged the snowbeast gladiator minion and you'll be getting one with your toymaker badge." It's the nice bonus surprise, not something promised up front or contracted for.
I maintain, you should make the decision based on what you know, and shouldn't reconsider it with 20/20 hindsight.
[/ QUOTE ]
No I think you're not understanding: You are still comparing doing something for someone else (regardless of reward) vs doing something for yourself (regardless of reward)!
Now, had I known I'd be getting paid $20.00 to shovel MY driveway (even though no one EXCEPT me is affected by me shoveling my driveway or not) maybe I'd have done it.
The fact is, if I'm the only one affected by me shoveling my driveway, and the only 'reward' is the aching back, maybe I'll skip it. The snow needs to be damned deep for me to have issues getting in/out of my driveway.
However, if my neighbor was gonna' toss me a $20.00 for shoveling my driveway maybe I'd do it.
On the same token, getting Toymaker was a pain in the butt that I skipped thinking IT'S ONLY ONE BADGE. I could have made the time to get it had I know there was going to be more to it. I didn't. This came out after the fact. I made an UNINFORMED decision, period.
By itself it wasn't worth the effort, had I know it was worth 2 badges (badge + a gladiator) I would have at least put in the effort on my main, if not all my toons. -

I can understand you missing a 6 slotted hover, (why not just fly? fly suppresses to hover in combat anyway. ) but there's nothing wrong with flight. Best overall travel power in the game. Sure, it'd be nice to make it faster. But, I'd like to be able to control the speed.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because 6-slotted hover didn't surpress to unslotted hover.
However regarding your oppinion that fly is fine as is... at least you like it.However MANY of us feel, when placed next to the other travel powers it comes up short in too many places.
Heck maybe BY ITSELF it IS fine. However, we have 3 other travel powers to compare it to so unfortunately it can't stand by itself because there are 3 other points of reference. -

We're not asking for it to SS fast, just a tad faster.
Disadvantage is already incorporated, end drain!
[/ QUOTE ]
And.. AND... it costs more slots (in endreds and flightspeeds) to make it competitive for what it's supposed to do- get you from point A to point B. Even then, it's still slower.
[/ QUOTE ]
Duh I wanted to add that too... thanks for posting it since I forgot.
That's true. While you certainly have the option to slot the TP's I usually can find a better use for the slots on toons with SS/SJ. I honestly do not have a single toon with either power that dedicated slots to those powers.
On the contrary on all my toons with flight have tripled slotted hover and triple slotted fly, all slots speed. (Fly will never be a practical enough combat power to even bother wasting end redux on it and with stamina it's not longer a 'drain' on me.)
However, sinle-slotting SS with speed and SJ with jump are normally effective.
I'd even buy the 'safety' of fly for it being slower... that does NOT justify the end drain nor does it explain it.
I also /sign on NOT asking the other travel powers get nerfed either! Aside from just being childish, I have all the tp's spread across my alts so I'd only gimp myself anyway. -
[ QUOTE ]
And so the problem is this. If you up the fly speed, then every other travel power needs to be 'upped' too to keep the balance. But, if you up those powers, we're back to fly is still holding everyone back.
So, if you want to up the flight speed, you need to come up with some DISAVANTAGE to add to it to compensate. Got any ideas?
[/ QUOTE ]
We're not asking for it to SS fast, just a tad faster.
Disadvantage is already incorporated, end drain! You can't maintain a fight with fly on for long. Excluding TP (because it's NOT a sustained mode of transportation, it's simply instant relocation) the other TP's can remain on in combat. I know very few SS'ers who shut off SS during a fight. Those that do are only doing it to get around the slowdown supression causes. -

I'm not asking for Toy Collector. I made a decision not to spend hours acquiring a badge. However, it now appears that was An Uninformed Decision (TM) with regards to this Gladiator. And I agree completely with Statesman, those types of decisions are bad.
[/ QUOTE ]
I understand where you're coming from, but I don't agree with you. The point of opening 200 presents was to get the Toy Collector badge. As part of that process, there were some temp powers you might get, and present inspirations. (On one of my two characters who got the badge, I didn't even get both temp powers and considered opening additional presents until he did.) So there WAS content beyond simply getting a title. That is all that anyone had to base their decision on. Please keep in mind that Gladiator is a system that is still somewhat new. Additional badges are being added still, some to old and common badges; the most recent example of this is the Kaolin Legacy of Earth which is linked to the Collector badge. It DID in fact occur to me that at some point in time they might link a winter minion gladiator badge to Toy Collector. I did not make my decision to get Toy Collector based on that. I made my decision because I wanted the title.
Frankly, a lot of people whined about Toy Collector being so tedious to get. In the end, it really was something very challenging for a badge hunter to solo, and I am quite proud of having it on two characters. That we are now going to get a gladiator for it is a very nice surprise that I appreciate. The grousing I am hearing about it from others though reminds me of people who say things like, "If I'd known I would have gotten something out of it, I'd have shoveled my elderly neighbor's driveway for her." Sometimes you should not make decisions about what you think you might out of them, just about whether its worth doing something for its own sake.

That is exactly the case for me. If I'd known there was a gladiator attached, I'd have put in the extra time. Didn't want to put in all the extra time just for the TC badge itself.
[/ QUOTE ]
There is an existing policy that 1-time badges you may have missed will not be required for Accolade Powers. For this reason Isolator will never contribute to an accolade. That has little to do with pre-I2 characters never having a chance, it's mostly about new players that leave Outbreak never knowing there was a badge to be gathered there.
I don't see a real difference between Accolade Powers and Arena Powers in the form of a Gladiator pet.
That policy should apply here. We passed up on present collecting never knowing it would give a Gladiator, we can't go back for it, this is the same as Isolator. Toy Collector should not give a Gladiator.
If the Devs really want to give Snowbeasts for the arena, they should give them for Jetsetter/PhalanxReserve. That would more fair.
(That's my last comment on the subject unless Positron himself wants to address this.)

Or for the badge you get for beating down the snowbeasts (cold warrior right?)
