Cool new badges, DAMN IT. JUst when I was telling myself I was going to concentrate on getting new people the badges and leaving my older characters who already have them alone during this event....
This event needs to be longer than two weeks. -
Quote:Bah! You are a rookie of forum hatred and rudeness; people hating you does not block your access to the boards.
eltonio: This is super bizzare.
I m about the most hatred dude in here, but i still can reach the boards. -
Quote:I am trying to convince no one. I am merely stating that I am 99% allergic to silliness for silliness' sake, and pink imps are silly. Even the people trailing them around think they're silly, I've seen what they say in team-chat and the whole thing is a great big joke to them.
Sam: People make what people like, and short of trying to convince them they like the wrong thing, there is no such thing as bad choices, merely unpopular choices.
If you think this joke is funny, fine. It makes ME yawn, as well as being visually displeasing and on this point we differ. Now I will sit back and wait for the flames coming from all directions about the utter seriousness of pink imps, not to mention there may well be one person in the game whose imps are pink for reasons of SRS BZNZ and this invalidates my entire scenario! *ho-hum* Par for the course.
Quote:Secondly, just because something is cliché doesn't make it bad.
Quote:One small note: "irregardless" is not a word, [SNIP!]
EDIT: Irregardless is most certainly a word: its right there in black and white in my text edition of Webster's New World College Dictionary. Just sayin', so you'll know next time. -
Yanking the thread back onto track:
Quote:Right now I am just waiting for the New Shinyness to wear off. With the exception of red/black powers and this one guy's green lightning effects, the colors I am seeing are mostly a Catastrophe of Clash. Or of simple bad choices.Moo: Remember, kids, just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD.
Bad choice #1: pink fire imps. Everyone thinks this is so cute and funny, irregardless that 50% of players I see seem to have pink imps. Its a cliche now. "Whee, I'm bucking the system, lookit my pink imps!"
*yawn*
However from a rp perspective this is great. My vampire /regen scrapper now occasionally refreshes her HP with a fine mist of blood these days. Big funI am so happy regen is no longer green, I can't tell you. Altho my one quibble is with Intergration: no effects should mean you also lose the gorilla-scream and chestbeating. That's just unnattractive.
Now lets work on hasten, shall we...? -
Quote:Let's 'accurately describe' your behavior: So much ad-homineming and sour grapes from someone completely unable to accept that other people have differing opinions. I have not seen one single bit of good reasoning here, just you telling everyone that those who didnt have much to say about the last few issues had 'deep pathologies,' because only your view is 'reality.'accurate description of behavior isn't an insult.
And if you get your panties bunched over a missed apostrophe, the internet isn't the right place for you.
Maybe to you! Ha. Maybe you can drag your forum girlfriend She Of The Puppydog Avatar in here to bolster your sagging ratings and lend creedence to your arguments. Last I remember her response to everything is "I hate you and I don't care about [her opponent's] opinion, so nyah!": the two of you are a perfect match as far as the strength of your lines of reasoning. Pardon the pun!
This is not an insult, it is an accurate description of your behavior. -
..and speaking of missions that need to be changed, I noticed one that didn't need to be changed the other night: the last mission of the Katie Hannon TF has been changed so that Katie will not follow any one person but instead runs all over the map, aggroing everything she sees. She will speak to one person like she is attached to them, but actually budge her that person would not. We had to actually summon a game-master to complete the mission.
This was cackled over in the server's task-force channel; one wit responded with, "haven't they done enough to that TF already?"
Me: "They have now!"
I'll never run it again, I can tell you that. -
Quote:When I was new to CoV, I was also new to MMOs and I nearly - I kid you not - I nearly quit the game over Blechly. That was back in the day before we could drop missions, I had only the barest beginnings of strategy beginning to form in my console-only little head, and Blechly.... well, he made a throw-rug out of my poor baby Rad/dark Corr so many times that honestly, I had begun to despair.Take out the Council's Vampyr from Angelo Vendetti needs to be redone. As it is now, you need 4 villains to complete this mission. Teaming in Red zone is pretty hard anyway so you are forced to drop this mission when you get it. Or hope to find some friends later en enough numbers to clear this mission from your tray.
He had a bad habit of jumping out of nowhere! *MEZ!* *DEAD!* omg awful, lol.
I was reduced to going outside and begging for help in Broadcast. Several kind +2s and +3s came in and killed him for me, or I would have been stuck forever.
It takes guts to make an admission like that
Nowadays things have changed; Blechly is the Judgement Day that determines the fate of a new character. If the newbie can solo Blechly, he or she is a keeper. Allow me to suggest that you not Fear The Reaper, even though yeah... the rumors about the Council Vampyre are true, and then some! Learn to beat him down. He's good practice for other horrid things you will face solo later on. Big hint: DO NOT let him take you by surprise. -
Quote:....And with this little bon mot, you just jumped the shark.
goat: You have unrealistic expectations and then you whine when the devs don't meet them.
Guess what: if you're willing to sit around endlessly arguing with people about how they need to "stop whining" because they have high expectations.... you just go ahead and do that. If you think its wrong of people to want a heightened gameplay experience after what? 5? 6? years in a given game - as you evidently do - go on with your bad self.
If you think it is wrong of people to want new missions, zones, TFs etc. and to not be satisfied playing Barbie Dressup ENDLESSLY - as you evidently do, I can draw no other conclusion from your posts in this thread - hey, fine. But just because you do does not mean me or anyone else has to take you seriously.
I like playing Barbie Dressup in the costume creator, I really do. But at this point people want something more! They are frickin' sick to death of Killing Ten Hellions every time they pop out of Outbreak. And you are too, but we could not get that admission out of you with a tire-iron, I'd bet. To sit there whining about it - omg, I said it.... you are whining about other people's opinions, see what I did there....? to sit there whining about others not agreeing with every last thing that comes out of your keyboard, well... you can do that by yourself. You are needlessly oppositional in this and really, in every thread you post in.
Quote:No you aren't, your crying about not getting what GR is going to deliver.
No, I'm not Ignoring you. But I am done trying to have a civil discussion with you. Its impossible, futile, unrewarding. And for one of your intelligence, its pretty sad. To you, just about everything posted in these forums is "whining." Awww.
Quote:Criticism of their output over the last few issues is the expression of some deep-rooted pathology, because it is not rooted in reality. -
Quote:
me: One would also be justified in responding "So you view picking new colors as 'new gameplay content.' Check. But tell me.... how long will picking new colors for your powers hold your interest? A week? A month?...? How long?" Because this is just me, but picking new colors for your powers is fun, but a new strikeforce or two, it ain't. A new zone or two... IT AIN'T. Quote:goat: How long has the costume creator held people's interest?
No, it isn't a 'new zone or two'. Who's saying that, other than you?
Someone else: this new issue really does not do a whole lot for me. Changing power-colors does not interest me much. Where is some really good new content? QoL fixes are nice, but I am ready for some content I can sink my teeth into.
You: Whaddya mean, changing powerset colors isn't new content? Is too new content! So you're not interested in doing that endlessly? Its still new content.
... As if being able to change powerset colors should be enough to fascinate everyone endlessly. And [speaking in an overall sense] as if an entire issue could be built around the costume creator exclusively.
We have had a long string of issues devoted to things other than actual gameplay, as in, new missions/TFs/SFs to run. We've had three new task/strike forces in what, two years? The ITF, Lady Grey and Khan. Its great that we got those, but many feel that it is now time for some serious, game-changing new content a la CoV.
And so many of us are sitting back and waiting to see what goes on in Going Rogue. I hope it is something great, because key members of my SG are talking about decamping to Diablo 3 when that comes out unless GR knocks their socks off, and I'd hate to have to go with them. [I would 98% likely still keep my CoX account active just the same, but still.]
Dont get me wrong, I am grateful for the fixes we have gotten, many of which were sorely needed. But we have metaphorically crawled, then we have walked and walked.
It is now time for CoX to run.
If you think such high expectations are "whining," carry on. Its not like its taking anyone by surprise - least of all me. -
It cannot be denied that there is a great deal of truth in what you say, Ultimo.
We've been waiting a very long time indeed for new story content, and the last big influx of that we had was.... the launch of CoV!!? Can it really have been that long ago? I think so. The RWZ was a step in the right direction, so was Cimerora [although Cim fits about as well into the Paragon universe as Asgard does into Marvel's..... or, not all that well, imo].
What else have we had?:
*Crafting! YAY, L00T! And hence the influx of 100 million-inf. recipes, many of which have 0 for sale, anyways. Way to excite me; this part of the game seems to actually be devolving instead of evolving. Instead of people being able to trick themselves out as desired, we encounter an ever-tightening spiral of absolutely berserk prices. No one recipe is worth a billion Inf, sorry. [Apologists for this system, spare me your flames please.]
*Oroborous. Yay! We can run the same content we've seen a million times, a bunch more times? Ok. Useful for missing badges & not much else, to me. I know some people enjoy this.
*Rikti War Zone. Well, its something different to do, and we can unlock cool stuff there. I'd like to see more stuff added to the zone, but how likely is that....? You guessed correctly.
*Invasions. Well, again: something new to do, thank the good Lord for that. We get badges and accolades, and these helped up level up lowbies until xp was nerfed into the ground because evidently, leveling up these days is an exploit in and of itself. These are usually pretty fun, everyone gets to fight together.
I avoid the fires in Steel because I consider the temp power to have a stupidly long recharge time. Its about as fun as having a tooth pulled, as is a surprising amount of the really old content.
Things have improved, we just need more improvement. So I am still hoping GR will make me proud, against all odds. -
Quote:You were not the person to whom I was responding, but nonetheless some actual polite, calmly-stated conversation is always welcome.well, i will sadly have to dissapoint you on the snark, as im feeling quite chipper today, but do you consider going rogue an issue? If so, then i would be forced to assume that our next "issue" will be where a lot of the mission creation resources seem to have been focused, and I am expecting quite a lot , both in terms of missions and costumes, at least in line with cov. If its is less than i will outcomplain pretty much anyone, but i suspect i wont be.
I am waiting with interest to see what happens with Going Rogue. I have very high expectations and will they be borne out? We shall see.... but it is time for some content, and quite a bit of it, with teeth. Make me proud, devs -
Quote:This.
Someone else" On top of all this, a 6 year old game engine (since its alpha/beta times) is buggier and laggier than heck on a machine that's running modern brand new games at full without flaws. New patch day brings (yay!) more lag and bugs.
After a lot of thought, what is happening is apparent: the game engine is incapable of keeping up with my machine. I am moving way, way too fast and the engine simply cannot handle it! And it is more annoying than I can say.
Am I quitting over it? No. Does the creaky, clanking old engine they are running now need an upgrade? HOW ABOUT YES -
.... if "content" is boring, it does not benefit the player. This creates a perceived lack of value.
The underlying idea behind "picking new colors for my powers is new, and I like it, so... this is new content! Yay new content!" is just bewilderingly short-sighted.
One would also be justified in responding "So you view picking new colors as 'new gameplay content.' Check. But tell me.... how long will picking new colors for your powers hold your interest? A week? A month?...? How long?" Because this is just me, but picking new colors for your powers is fun, but a new strikeforce or two, it ain't. A new zone or two... IT AIN'T.
That seems like really, really lowballing your expectations for an issue. I mean, REALLY LOWBALL. Are you willing to let the developers off the hook that easily?
Now I fully expect the tirade of snark, insults and what-all that proceed from your keyboard every time I make a point. But you don't have to admit it in public, just ask yourself this one question in the wee hours of the night: Am I willing to let the developers trade this sort of thing for a new zone or three?
Me, I'm a tough audience and I'm letting this issue pass with little comment, but if we do not see significant content in the next issue or two, and by that I mean content with actual meat on its bones for those among us with higher standards [do pardon the pun].... that won't be looking good for the longevity of the game.
Or so it appears over here. No doubt you have a million reasons to declare contentment with changing the color of your fire-blasts every week, and there is where we differ... or one point, amongst the millions. -
Quote:I must second this. In my experience 50s who hang out in Atlas looking to exemp down tend to be very, very bossy. To them, all people who are low-level must also be low in gaming experience, and need to be shepherded around, being shown what to do. And they will be very vocal about what everyone does, like so many nannies.
I suppose I'm a reverse 50 snob, since I deeply dislike teaming with exemp'd 50s on low level teams. I'm not saying they all do it, but I've been on a number of lowbie teams where an exemp'd high level has tried to run the team, or tried to play the low level game as if it was the high level game (Tank must go first blah blah...) or dropped their exemp the minute things looked remotely dangerous and wiped half the map while the rest of us got no xp.
The worst examples of this are level 50 /kins who haunt the sewers, waiting for a lowbie team to mosey by so they can follow the lowbies, SBing the level 2s merrily every time the power recharges and clearing the hallway for them if it looks like someone just might faceplant. *sigh* GO. AWAY. ALREADY. AND. DONT. NANNY. ME. TY. Sheesh go run the ITF like a good little level 50, and leave lowbies the hell alone. Dare I say that even if a level 2 be a tidge ignorant, these experiences are how lowbies LEARN? Let people learn at their own pace I say. -
Quote:Joke's on them; AE is deader than Jacob Marley on servers that are not Freedom. I haven't checked in on Atlas on Freedom, but pretty much everywheres else, its downright funereal.[...]Three hours later, the newbie that made the new alt was in Atlas, broadcasting "lv2 scrap, lf aefarm."
As for the rest of this, the instant I saw peeps insultin m3 in AtLa2 wit such tr4sh-t4alkin I would have laughed to myself and instantly slapped 'em on Ignore without saying a thing. Life is too short to educate the ungrateful ignorant; such behavior all but guarantees that they will be going back to That Other Big MMO real, real quick anyways.
Do I care if some moron thinks the Faultline Arachnos temp costume is a con-item? Will I spend one instant trying to educate them otherwise? How about HELL NO? Instead I would probably all but fall out of my chair laughing as I sped off into the distance. I have better things to do.
Allow me to differentiate such fools from the Grateful Ignorant, whom I will stop and try to help if I hear they are having a problem. Act like an adult and be treated like one; this goes for all age-groups btw. -
Quote:Over here, character customization does not necessarily = new costume pieces. So the largest addition of character customization since the game launched doesn't meet BI's requirements.
Surprise, surprise!
If it does in your world, good for you. It doesn't for me, sorry.I can only imagine the comments that would be coming out of your keyboard were I to pop in here arguing about how being able to color your powers is a new costume piece; but since this is you saying this, its all ok. At least, this seems to be the argument you are making.
Whatev. -
Quote:AE is dead. I really don't see it coming back to anything near what it was; its over. I saw much discussion of this in Broadcast last night, people could not beg hard enough to get anyone to join an AE team.Terrible Terrible Terrible. They ruined not only AE whether you used it for leveling or for stories, but they also seemed to have nerfed developer content xp and made it harder. I was comforted by the idea of going back to old school missions but now it seems that its going to be harder to level than it was before AE came around. It was hard enough as it was back then!
Enemies seem to have too much range and are too easy to aggro. Not sure what they did with the numbers but it seems that they really have messed up a lot of stuff.
In other news, decided to roll an Earth Controller now that I can actually control how the powers look. She was mighty surprised to round a sewer-corner in a level 5 [LEVEL FIVE, MIND YOU] mission and run smack into 5 Vazhilok, one of which was a boss. *faceplant! Mostly due to lack of End*
I felt that was just a tidge much for a level 5; and this sort of thing continues througout the mission - more than usual mobs, not the faceplanting. I should add that she was on level 1. 4-5 mobs for a character under level 10, on Heroic? Ridiculous. I am hoping this was just a bug, but regardless she will be fighting no more Vazhilok just in case.
I did enjoy the email fix. Great work.
Not too happy about no new costume pieces, as in none.recoloring powers does not qualify as a new costume piece to me, before anyone starts off on that tack. If it does to you, cool. Cutting email spammers off at the knees WAS nice, though.

Quote:That would be hilarious.I think it would be cute if, during the winter ski event, a sniper (like the ones from PI or Founders Falls) would get up high and start tagging people. Not all the time but maybe once every 5-10 minutes.
"I'm gonna make it ... I'm gonna beat my time ...." *BLAM!* Not this time!

Thankfully we don't run any Halloween missions, so Snappy is unlikely to be haunting us.
I'd really love a special mission or two in the Halloween event, if they didn't have Snappy in them. Most overused NPC ever!
It'd be cool to have special Halloween stuff in Dark Astoria where we hunted zombies through a haunted office building or something. I'd pay a dollar to see that! But Snappy... er.... no thanks -
Quote:The Halloween event is the best one in the game, in my opinion. I have a bunch of people new since last year who don't feel like paying a million influence for each salvage needed to unlock the 5th costume slot, so am also looking forward to it for that reason.Maybe I'm just kind of a freak, but it's only September and I'm thinking that the Halloween and Winter events can't come fast enough. My favorite is the Winter Event[...]
Anyone else anticipating the events, or am I just weird?
So, fun event, pretty badges and needed salvage mean that I am also anticipating Halloween.
Now the Winter event leaves me cold, pun intended. I detest Snaptooth, and here we have yet ANOTHER mission in another cave; color me unimpressed. I don't use the unlocked costume-parts on anyone, so for me its a "meh." Same for the Valentine's event.
But Halloween.... I'm so there. Can't wait till it starts.... this event should run for 3-4 weeks IMO. ALL of October. Thirty days of night...! Bring it... er, make that 31 days of night. -
Quote:Hopefully not. Anything this surreal needs to stick around if only for the entertainment value. I mean, seriously, just this one thing:I think he's City Life. If that rings any bells for you. Just back away slowly and the crazy will get itself banned. Nothing to see here.
"AE might be a tool to make devs look funky in 'universal devs parties' Half of them at the bar, half dancing, and the 3d half askin how WoW did it, still.
Its perfect nonsence."
... worth a thousand laughs. AT LEAST. -
.... Bracass must be a Zen master. That has simply got to be it.

Quote:Speak for yourself; my Defenders are far from "obsolete." They are, in fact, very requested on teams. I own two Dark/dark Defenders and one Dark/dark Corruptor. All three are very powerful characters in their own right. With their damage being low, and another AT able to cover their main role in a team, the Defender becomes obsolete.
If you wished to discuss "obsolete," the place to start might be an MA Scrapper or an Archery Blaster. Now do not get me wrong: I like both of these characters, and both of them are level 50. I consider them both *really* fun to play. I am not considering deleting them. But popular on teams.... seems like everyone would rather have the Defenders.
This may be due to MA's emphasis on single-target damage and Archery's relatively low damage, esp. compared to a Fire/fire Blaster. [I own a level 50 one of those, and he is a very popular boy indeed.] Given the choice, people seem to prefer debuffs to Rain of Arrows, darnit. Unless you are the Blaster God of Damage a la Fire/fire; people like lots and lots of damage.
But Defenders "obsolete"? Bwahahahaha. Not hardly. -
Quote:This makes far too much sense to ever be made LawSo, there's been some discussion on the Open beta forums, and .. a lot of us have been thinking, unlockable costume items (Taslorian blades, Tommy gun, etc), should be made account wide.
Why you ask? Well, first and formost, it would make a lot of people very happy. But there's also a little something more..
They are constantly making changes to "Eliminate aberrant player behavior" (or however they put it), and in the most recent bout of changes there were a lot to eliminate excessive farming, by making certain badges easier to get.
Well tell me, is it any more aberrant to sit in a farm for hours on end trying to plink the last few Illusionist Decoys, than it is for a high level player to hold a mission and never actually complete it, and then let people farm it in order to get X badge? (Something we actually see villain side, with the Overseer badge.) If we have a team of 7 level 5s and one level 50 who clears the map for holiday costumes, what does that actually mean?
As such, I propose that unlocked costume items become account wide, rather than just character.
That Overseer badge in particular is just.... stupid. When someone in my SG needs that, we go in as a team of eight and get it for the one who needs it.
While some would say, "See how easy that is? HOw dare you want it unlocked account-wide!", that is really my point. The person who needed the Rulaaru weapon didn't actually earn it; we went in and got it *for* them. Personally, they contributed to the kill-count but did not do the majority of the work.
And so as a mark of personal accomplishment, these badges don't mean all that much. And if they don't mean that much, why bother? If I'm on a team of eight that goes to Monster Island and gets Zookeeper in less than 10 minutes.... that means nothing.
So yeah. Signed to the account-wide unlocks. -
Quote:I am more tolerant of SB these days, but when on a melee character I have totally been known to come to a dead halt until it wears off, if someone is being an @ss about casting it. Impose your will upon me? Cool. I'll impose mine upon you: no more Knock Out Blow for you until it wears off.Part of the problem with lengthening SB isn't anything to do with balance. Some people flat don't like it. There are players who will stand stock still until SB wears off if someone casts it on them, and making SB longer without having a way to remove unwanted buffs just makes their situation worse.
Therefore, I will say yet again: longer duration on SB when the victims thereby inconvenienced get the ability to right-click-off.
We have the ability to "gate" Fortune casts, and it is wonderful. I would love to see this applied to this [at best] extremely situational and often grief-tastic "buff."
