I am all for an option to kill the useful Salvage prompt with fire, never to be seen again.
It would be one thing if the "hide Useful salvage" prompt worked for longer than thirty seconds.... which it seems not to. This prompt is by far the most annoying thing that has been added to the game for many a long day.
KILL. IT. WITH. FIRE. -
Quote:Being an artist myself, I am never about "stifling creativity."[...] but beyond that, what ground do you stand on to stifle creativity because of your bias and prejudice?
Your task is to convince the developers that City of Furries will further their creative vision in the direction in which they want it to go. I will wish you good luck on this quest, because you are gonna need it. -
Quote:So the only comments allowed out here are ringing endorsements? Better shut the forums down now, then.
Frankly, if you're only comment on a thread is likely to be "no thanks" or "I don't like X, so I'll pass" then it would be better just not to post
Quote:What follows is basically due to me enjoying a good discussion and would more or less continue the argument that anime does not equal furry...or big breasts for that matter, and some discussion on good anime.
*******************************
Medusa, Nagas, Faerie, Satyrs, Fauns, Mermaids, Werewolves, Werepanthers (South America), Weresharks (pacific island), Raven shapeshifters (couple of places), Centaurs, Camazotz, Succubi, Echidna, Anubis, Isis, Horus, Set, Minotaur... -
...Oh for crying out loud! I am not going on a magical mystery tour of the various styles of anime, the validity of each and why or why not each style should or should not be introduced into CoX in the name of a well-rounded argument. Not going to be baited into that sort of thing.
You know good and darned well exactly what sort of image pops into mind whenever anyone says "anime" or "furry," and arguing with me about it isn't going to affect that perception much. Unfortunately your problem re this is bigger than me. -
Quote:I understand anime just fine, thanks. I simply do not like it, and if I wanted to be playing characters which resemble what usually springs to mind when "anime" is mentioned, I'd find me a new MMO. Im sure there is one out there which is thematically appropriate. Most likely more than one.But my point is, more or less, is that hating something because you don't understand it is beyond ignorance...it's downright idiotic. Beyond that, just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's a bad idea and frankly, your argument that it breaks immersion doesn't hold water.
With that said, I find your insinuations that I am "ignorant" and "idiotic" to be both uncalled-for and offensive: after all, you hold an opposing viewpoint, yet I have said no such thing to you. Pray return the courtesy.
I'll leave the baby-faced, 38-DD sporting, garter-wearing bunny girls to you, you can have 'em all. Cheers. -
Have often wondered exactly what the purpose of that is supposed to be, because ts not like these runners are going to be able to stop me from completing my goal.
I understand them being in a bank mission somewhat - although it makes little sense to me to have a madly-fleeing civilian repeatedly bouncing off a pair of metahumans fighting over a bag of money, irl that person would be stomped like a bug - but 100 fleeing civilians on four floors of office map is just stupid.
Me, if some guy in black battle-armor shows up at worth trailed by five firey demons incinerating everyone they see..... Im not going to cross his path 50 times, I'm hiding under a desk and not budging till the coast is clear. But that's me. -
Quote:Such an extrapolation [that since I dislike anime', this automatically MUST mean that I approach everything in life with similar heavyhanded nay-say-itude - obviously my dislike of anime' was instantateous and delivered to my frontal lobes without so much as a scintilla of a rationale! omg!], is a very dangerous thing. That's just not how people in general are, much less me. Its far too great of a simplification. But if you carry over that attitude toward other things (kind of like you did with the suggestion you were referring to), I'm positive it's the panacea for all the world's woes.
I "hate what I don't understand"?! Ha. As if anime is a deep philosophical subject taking years of study to understand. Those babyfaced pre-teens wearing garters and cat-ears are a complicated concept! You know... I don't think so.
If you like this stuff, fine. And it is true that we could use some refination of the non-human parts we have in the game now.
But City of Furries? Pass, thanks. -
That's a part of my problem: I cannot find a source that tells exactly how these things drop or what you can do with them.
Quote:...you can put them on the market?I've averaged over 100 million inf per H/V merit
Excuse woeful ignorance, but like I say I just can't find a source divulging who what where when and how. Even Paragonwiki tells you next to nothing about how these things work. -
....so I've looked here and looked there, and I don't really see an answer to this exact question; and yes I did look at the GR FAQ....
Are hero merits supposed to drop freely after one pays the initial 20 million [?!! which seems outrageously high...!] or are we going to have to be buying them one by one, paying 20 million each time?
If its the latter this will severely limit their usefulness to me. By the time I paid twenty million enough times to get 20 hero merits, I might as well have used WW. -
Quote:All I need to know about anime', I learned the first time I saw a baby-faced female anthropoid sporting cat-ears and a tail. You may love it, I don't.That's the spirit! Hate what you don't understand. That's the solution to all the worlds problems!
I don't think whether or not I like anime is going to have an impact on the problems of the world today, that's just my take -
Quote:I would agree with this if we didn't have animations already in the game for fighting while using Hover or Fly [weightless]. 'Port those over to the underwater zone and I don't see a problem....?
Underwater combat (that is, combat while submerged in water) would be tricky
The main work is aready done: make it happen, Devs. My people want to swim around, dammit! -
I have a strong feeling - just a hunch, mind you - that the developers don't want CoX turning into anything remotely resembling the above.
I don't think "cute" is what they have in mind.
Quote:Fey: And more tails - I've been waiting for a horse tail since my first character!
The only horsehead I'd want to see in this game would be, if my villains could leave one in Lord Recluse's bed as a warning. Awesome!
EDIT:
Quote:What's so super-heroic about the jester costume, or the bikini, or the pirate costume?
However, CLOWNS..... clowns will always be thematic. They will be because of *one* iconic villain, The Joker. The Joker is one of the greatest villains ever. *bows in the Joker's general direction* -
Quote:...the problem is, that this is a game centered around SUPERHEROES. I can think of very few comics characters offhand that utilize anything other than wolf or cat heads. Alien heads? Ok, this is a sci-fi themed game, we could use more of those.
Let's NOT encourage Jay's prejudice against such an art pack, folks!
I will not comment on anime, since this is a genre I loathe and so I have no idea what goes on there. However it seems to me that furries are an inherently anime theme. But this isn't an anime game.....
The problem is that a bunch of people running around with elephant heads [recently suggested in another thread] would break the theme of the game quite severely. In essence, do we want to encourage things like clones of Beta Ray Bill?
So its not just about Jay's dislike of furries. Its about thematic appropriateness to the game, and cute bunny girls are.... sort of not very superheroic. Or even very villainous... This isn't Playboy Mansion Online. Pining for these type of things is likely to be an excercise in futility, I fear. Mileage will vary but I would not hold my breath for zillions of animal parts to be added; if we are LUCKY we'll get a little more wolf-themed stuff. Wolf, bat and cat-heads would not break theme, and we could certainly use some updated ones. -
Quote:I have an almost 50/50 split. However, my melee people are overwhelmingly male. Ranged people and control-types are female.
does anyone else notice a gender bias in their toons?
There are exceptions to this rule, but not many.
I was very resistant at first to the idea of rolling male characters, since I could identify more closely with the women... being one myself. Once I got past that, I find playing male characters very enjoyable and as an added bonus, it greatly cuts down on the what-are-you-wearing tells. -
Have one atm, a Plant Dominator who is oh-so-lovely to look at, I cant stand playing her. She's level 20 and I cant bear to delete her. However she is not on my home server so she's just rusticating.
As far as Dual Pistols, I had a blast - puns intended - with my DP Blaster until I hit about level 25. At that point the set became unplayable for me due to crap damage and I sadly deleted her. Really fun set.... crap damage. No thank you. Why would I put up with that when Fire Blasters exist...? *FIREBALL* -
Quote:Comparing Swift[!! of all things] to Speed Boost is like comparing a go-kart to a Saturn 5 rocket. Uh.... no.
I'd hate the idea that, thematically or otherwise, all my characters would suddenly run and jump faster and higher just because they reached Lv1 or 2, it sort of relates to how people hate Speed boost because they suddenly move out of control of going too fast, though I doubt Swift and Hurdle would be as severe
Anyone not wanting to deal with the horrors of Swift or Hurdle can just leave things how they are right now, for existing characters. I may well do this with some of my people who have important set bonuses that I don't want to tinker with.
I just can't believe how hard people are looking to find a gripe with this announcement. Wait until we see if there is a corresponding nerf and then you will truly have a big complaint. I'll be there complaining too, if that happens. But for crying out loud, let's see what actually DOES happen before we go crazy with the complaints. -
PLease excuse this question: how do you get your in-game nav bar to display numerical coordinates?
I have looked all over this site and others, and I cannot find how to do it. It does not help that every time I search on this site, I am told I entered the obligatory random-letter-and-number requirement wrong... I view such tactics as being in essence told, "We really don't want you searching for stuff, so this is how we gate our content" - but that is to the side.
I'd really like to be able to use numerical nav coordinates. Please...? Anyone...?
EDIT: never mind, found it -
Quote:So, when my level eight [EIGHT!] character rounds a sewer-tunnel corner and runs up on three Abominations, an Embalmed Cadaver and a Mortificator, he or she is supposed to use powers while keeping in mind "his/her ability to sustain them." Always keeping in mind that sometimes pulling works, but a lot of time the whole crew comes along and you are right back at square one. *throws hands into the air in frustration*The player running out of endurance because they're throwing out attacks, healing, debuffs (especially high-cost ones) constantly without any regard for their ability to sustain them, plus running toggles that negate portions of their end regen is.. precisely what the Endurance system is supposed to do, from what I see. There are (supposed to be) consequences to insisting on throwing out everything you have at every moment.
I am sure those Vazhilok will wait patiently for my blue bar to recharge! How about no. And so I might well end up bolting for the door. VERY metahuman, let me tell you.
As a result I do not ever choose toggle power-picks until after Stamina [especially things like DAMAGE AURAS which have EXTREMELY high end-costs, omg] with the exception of anti-mez/sleep and -KB shields, which run all day every day until my blue bar is literally empty.
There is a reason people powerlevel, it is often in order to get past these simply atrocious levels where you had to pick Swift instead of something you really, really need. At least that is what I do.... If this change goes down without us paying some really bad cost in the name of "balance," it will be one of the top five ways that the fun-vs-drudgery balance in this game was shifted toward the side of FUN.
"FREE AT LAST!" my level 8 characters will shout. Freed from the chains that bound them: the chains of overly-heavy End costs. -
Quote:Yup.Um, i am having an Ultimo_ flashback here. Shields 3-slotted for end reduction, really?
Quote:i have an Electric Armor brute with the not uncommon Brute playstyle where it's [....snip] -
Quote:.... the last time I said anything like that, I remember being pilloried.I guess I'll weigh in on the whole fitness thing, too.
I've got almost 5 years of paid time on my account. In that time I have almost never... ever... EVER seen a character that was being played by a knowledgeable person that wasn't using Stamina. Of the ones I did see, they were regens or willpower users or people with really good end recovery powers such as elec armor or kin.
It greatly amuses me to see people in the game with no Stamina and two ticks of End/toggles dropped. Melee'ers tend to do this, I don't know why. Maybe their best friend is a /kin who just happens not to be present.
I'll even go out on a limb here: I have an Elec/ tank with all his shields three-slotted for Endurance, he can also replenish his Endurance at will.... and yet for all that Endurance is still a big issue for him and I would not strip Fitness off of him at the present time. I doubt I will ever take it off unless the powers become unslottable - in which case they will be gone faster than a certain spotlight-hogging, cocaine-snorting spoiled little heiresses' underwear is on a Saturday night.
I confess I am a little worried that Fitness will be gutted in an attempt to "achieve game balance," but will wait for more info before panic sets in. -
Quote:Define "right." Because I think your naysaying on this issue is perhaps not the right thing for those impressionable devs to read.I just wish the devs could read the right forum posts. I happen to blame a lot of the crap that's come out recently on the forums.

Quote:Sorry, cannot agree. My lowbie Tanks and Brutes having to stop and rest after every group of NPCs is not fun to me and never has been fun. Often I stop, pull up the internet and do a bit of surfing as they slooooooooooooooooooowly recharge. Check back in: nope, only halfway recharged *brings Explorer back up...* What a blast! Now that I call challenging!this game is already very easy on 4/8. making stamina inehernt makes it much easier and takes away alot of what was fun/challenging about making builds.
My one concern is what are they going to take away from us in the name of "balance," over this fix. It'll be something big and unpleasant, I'd bet. -
Favorite titles:
*The long-gone "Executioner." [sigh] Of all the AE badges that got cruelly ripped away from us - for what seems to me no reason at all, apologists please spare me your explanation of the rightness of that ripping-away, for it will never be "right" to me - I miss that one the most.
*Summoned
*Soul Taker, probably my all time fav ever
*Vision of Despair
*Time Lord
*Dark Mystic
*Mystic
*Apocalyptic
*Assassin is pretty good
*Ghoulish
*Soul Binder -
Quote:And so what if people DO make threats? So what. For real, so what? There is, however, a difference between stating that you dislike something, and making veiled threats and dire predictions about segments of the player population disappearing due to you not getting what you want.
I think there is a fundamental disconnect in perception here. We seem to have two distinct groups:
*One group sees the entire playerbase as a large mass of people paying subscriptions, buying boosters etc. So as naturally follows, each one of those people - personally like them or not - is generating money for a game that all of us love, no matter how we might feel about each other on the forums or whereever.
You pay a subscription. So do I. So do people you and I like. So do people you and I despise. In the eyes of NCSoft, we're ALL equal. Like it or not.
*******
*The second group sees people they dislike as completely disposable: Have an opinion they disagree with? GTFO! They are the self-appointed arbiters of taste, and only people they like and agree with should be allowed to hold subscriptions. I can draw no other inference from the things I see being said.
SG members quit and now you're alone? Haha, GTFO already.
Dont like a particular game mechanism? TOO BAD, now GTFO and make it snappy!
Wait, I thought we were getting [x] in the next new thing released and its not going to be in there?! I was waiting 5 years for that. I am tired of waiting. I am cancelling my sub. Reply: HAHA, stop whining and GTFO! Who cares!
...the list goes on and on. And who knows, maybe the target of such unwarranted snark might actually take offense and quit. That's money out of the pocket of your favorite game, folks. NCSoft isnt giving [general] you brownie points for being mean to disgruntled people.
Quote:I'm sure you're not unaware of the number of people who post in these forums day after day about how change x or y caused their supergroup and all their global friends to vanish into a puff of disgruntled-scented smoke.
Quote:And yet still, here people are, threatening the same tired old nonsense and giving their end-of-subscription dates. Well most of us here don't give a frikkin' freem!
Quote:Maybe you play on a different set of servers than I do, but Virtue and Freedom are currently red and all other servers are yellow. And what I said still stands, simply because it makes common sense. Find something else to do that entertains you until the game gets fun for you again.
You don't have to take that advice, but no one should expect sympathy when they beat the 'I'm quitting and all my friends are quitting' drum. Everyone is tired of that particular rhythm. It's been done to death.
Oh right. I almost forgot where I was. -
Quote:There was a time when I would have agreed with you, but as the game ages the factions seem to become less important. When you can see a Stalker strolling across the Portal Co. courtyard, factions have definitely become less important.
The thing I've always disliked about the co-op zones is it sort of undermines the point of having the different factions. They all tend to do the "larger threat that we all need to work together to defeat!" thing, which ultimately fits with heroes but sort of whitewashes villains. The more you have of these, the less distinct the factions become
Truly villainous villains can just stay redside and stay "pure." And vice versa. The problem with that is that this may hamper playing with your friends.... so, more co-op stuff helps ease the problem for diehard players looking for new things to earn cash with for those level 50 characters and their ever-open beaks. Plus lets admit, playing a level 50 is definitely more fun than playing a pre-stamina. I didn't go through all those levels just to park the character when I hit 50 - far from it.
I cannot understand all these people continually urging others to quit at the least provocation. Instead of going, "Well you know, you might be right... maybe we do need new things to do at all levels, what a good idea. We've just devoted an entire issue to the pre-stamina levels, now its time to break out the complex and challenging end content," its all [in essence] "Haha! don't like it? GTFO! We don't need your money!"
We may well need the money of disgruntled people leaving. After all, for all this wondrous new pre-stamina content, I see most of the servers are already back down to one green dot. So much for that endlessly-fascinating new lowbie content....? hm.
