Quote:YOU WERE THERE with me during my solo mission, and saw everything that went down? AWESOME! Is that a temp power? Can I purchase it in the NCSoft store?
Nalrok: No he wasn't.
...and yeah, sorry guy but Trappy did indeed one-shot my Def several times with whatever it is he uses as his main melee strike. This is why my squishys dislike fighting him in close range.
Quote:Also I have yet to see that power; I ran this on a controller and a corruptor and neither of them were one-shotted. Invest in defense or, like I mentioned earlier, grab some purples.
Quote:Furio: After playing a blaster since day -3, I know what I do when I pull, but I don't know you, so I can only go by what you've written....and what you wrote there looks like you were talking about pulling the boss, not thinning out his minions.
*****
Let me parse this for those who find it confusing: "All this is academic to me, because I won't be running anyone else through this for a good long while. For which I feel great relief" means that all of my current level 50s whom I am interested in making Incarnate, have already been run through the arc. I won't be facing Trappy alone again anytime soon, and for that I am thankful.
Of course by then, who knows what this arc will look like, but right now its academic to me. What concerns me is this idea that somehow, seperating the boss from his minions is eEEEEeee-vil. Uh... no. We've been doing it for years. -
Quote:The problem here is that you are talking as if pulling Trappy into the control room nullifies all his powers. Haha, not so fast: he has that one-shot melee power that seems to have a 100% chance to hit. It certainly hit my Defender and it hit him good. Multiple times.Really?? So if you were able to pull an AV, EB, or plain boss into a Hallway and his powers stoped working you wouldn't think that maybe just maybe something is wrong? That maybe the developers made a mistake or maybe there was a bug.
Quote:If the developers intended for you to fight Recluse with the towers up then you would not be able to kill them. The developers want you to fight Trapdoor with his clones so now you can't pull him out. Trappy is ranged AND melee. If you forget that he will be happy to remind you.
All this is academic to me, because I won't be running anyone else through this for a good long while. For which I feel great relief. -
Quote:I should not even have to explain this.... smart pullers never target the boss, they target the minions, kill them one by one and then they take down the boss. If the boss comes along that is one thing, but the boss is never the intent of the pull. Except perhaps for Rommy.
Furio: You snipe that boss, 9 times out of ten those minions *are* coming with him.
Good gravy, what next. Claims that killing the towers one by one in the STF is "an exploit" because the developers intended Recluse to be fought with them all up? They must have, after all he is in range of the towers and so taking the towers out is "an exploit!!1!!11"
Massive eye-roll here.
Quote:Someone else: The development team did not intend for you to pull him away from those clones -
Quote:There were no pets on the map other than Dark Servant when I saw this: my Dark/Dark Defender was simply overwhelmed, because as fast as he killed the bifurcations, another would spawn. A Defender does not have the shielding to take being pounded on by both Trapdoor and all of these bifurcations; not to mention that Trappy can one-shot a squishy without even blinking. He has a version of Total Focus [? or something really similar] that killed my Defender with one shot several times. First I tried killingthe bifurcations, that actually made things worse. Then I tried pulling him into the control room and he would just run up and one-shot me.I'm really starting to wonder if there are two versions of this encounter. With me he did nothing like this, after six different times through.
Are we missing something here, like he spawns more Bifurcations if you have a lot of pets deployed?
Trying again with Servant dismissed had no noticeable effect. The next pet Trappy saw was a Shivan - and that settled the encounter nicely, no questions asked. There's "challenge" and then there's "just plain silly," the whole thing struck me as option B.
My /energy Dom however went in and mopped the floor with him due to KBing him all over the map. I am looking for him to become resistant or outright immune to both KB and fire damage soon. I just have a feeling that is how this is gonna end up. -
Quote:On many maps, the boss/AV is surrounded by a group of lesser NPCs. Since that boss is in the midst of a group, its safe to assume that the developers intend that he be fought... in the midst of that group. The problem is that the development team never meant for him to be pulled out of range of his clones.
And then on the eighth day, God I mean the developers created many and various SNIPE tools, so that that very dangerous boss can be removed from his group of supporters and defeated alone. The "pull" is a standard gaming tactic, and intimating that it is an "exploit" makes me laugh out loud.
If pulling Trapdoor away from his minions is bad, then *all* pulling of bosses away from their minions is bad, its an "exploit" and needs to be stopped ASAP!
I hope you can see how extremely silly such a supposition is.
Trapdoor is not a special snowflake, he does not deserve such extreme protection and I think his being protected in such a fashion is silly. Not to mention dangerous, because we don't want the developers getting the idea that pulling is bad.
Unless we're Nalrok, I guess. Who knows.
Quote:There are still several other tatics you can use to defeat him without trying to outdamage his regen.
Now that's a recipe for success! /endsarcasm -
Quote:The problem is that killing the bifurcations means that he INSTANTLY respawns them, and they seem to respawn faster the faster you kill them.
Back out, buy reds and purples from Ramiel, run back in and trash him and his bifurcations if it really is that difficult. The means exist to win.
Quote:Also I'm in the 'exploit fix' crowd.
If tactics that involve the use of tools equals "exploit," I expect to see the following things removed from the game ASAP:
*all inspirations
*all snipe tools, including the Blackwand and Nemesis Staff
*shivans
*nukes
*Vanguard HVAS
*PvP zone heavies
*...and really, enhancements.
At the bottom of your slippery slope is the notion that ANYthing that helps you win a fight is a cheat, and therefore an exploit. Good luck with that line of reasoning. -
Quote:...until they make him immune to Fire damage. Both the plasmatic taser, and the hand grenade have KB, and both are temp powers, and they havent fixed the lava nuking his regen yet.. so.. knock him in the lava, via temp powers, and keep him there either hover blasting over his head, or immobilizing him.
really, its that simple.
1) Get trapdoor in lava
2) Keep him there
3) ???
4) PROFIT!
That will be next.
I say lets go whole hog: let's disable shivans and nukes. Disable all Holds, KB and Immobs. He should be completely immune to Smashing and Lethal damage, and he should also spawn those Blue-Light-Specials-O'-Death like Battle Maiden does.
You want challenge, I say give it to you. Meanwhile I think all of my people who are going to be Incarnate have already done this arc, and for that I give a big "Thank you, God." -
Quote:No one expects enemies not to grow in power. What vastly annoys players are cheats.
Why do you think you can grow in power over all this time, but your enemies can't?
An unresistable nuke spammed endlessly [Battle Maiden] is a cheat. Sorry. Its a cheat when it can spawn in three dimensions, so if you fly underneath it it will still kill you. It's a CHEAT when I cant even fire off certain attacks because the animation freezes me in place and I'll get blue-light-specialled to death.... and so all we can ever do is kite an ARCH VILLAIN. That'll overcome her +regen, you bet...!
I'll be running these two Tfs once each to get the badge, and then they will never see me again. I am glad a few of you are sticking up for this ridiculous content. Me, I'm back to the ITF and that's where I will stay.... I call epic fail. It was all good till the final mission - and then things fell apart like a Cold War era Soviet spacecraft falling back to earth.... with the Cosmonauts still in it.
Amd last but not least, this mind-boggling statement:
Quote:... It is, after all, City of Heroes, NOT City of SUPER Heroes ... -
Or, you can just save yourself the hassle and drop the mission: there's an idea that works.

People I hated and then deleted:
*a couple of Dual Blades Scrappers. Dual Blades is great on a Tank. That is how DB ought to be! On a Scrapper, it sucks. Never got past 24 with that. Deletedeletedelete.
*a Ice/cold [or whatever] Corr. Got her to 38. Loved her concept and costumes. Sucked to play. Delete.
*A Broadsword/dark Scrapper, level 50. He was beautiful. Great concept and look. I hate Broadsword, sorry. Delete.
*Shield/mace tanker, level 42. I hate the mace set. Delete.
*Khelds and Warshades: life is too short for this kind of crap: delete.
Dark/dark rules:
Bad -
RoF is far from a "terrible power." Its a great power, best pulled out on teams when things get a bit too intense. NPCs flee, giving everyone a much needed breather. Its like a mini-Bonfire.
-
Quote:It does not always hit. It only hit one of my people once; but once was enough to get me to drop the mission from then on. I just don't find being forced to wait around for what feels like 99 forevers, fun.I didn't even know there was a curse in the Honoree mission, until mentioned here. Interesting.
Mileage will vary, of course. -
Quote:If a shard drops, everyone on the team should get one, not just the resident goof-off. Sicne shards cannot be sold or traded, this would hurt other people exactly how...? It would certainly be more incentive to team.
How would you determine the drops then?
We already have to endure the so-called "random number generator" with everything else: salvage, rare recipies, the works. I'm a little tired of having to endure it one more time, since as I've said several times before, IT SEEMS ANYTHING BUT RANDOM.
What seems to be going on is that the number generator actually picks one person to get the lion's share of incarnate stuff, not only for one mission but for the entire TF. Yeah.... I'm enthused. *flat affect* -
Quote:One more time: the person working the least getting the lion's share of the incarnate drops is not "fair." Nothing random about it.No see it's random, just because you didn't get as meny as some one else does not mean it's "unfair" it's random.
No one, least of all me, posted about how everyone on the team should get an equal amount of Incarnate drops, although that would certain be both very nice and a lot more fair.
What irks me is leeches coming out of a TF with 7-8 shards, more than double everyone else. I don't like it. If you don't like that I don't like it, sorry but we'll have to keep disagreeing. -
-
Quote:I have to agree with at least this part, since so far from what I have seen the most shards go to the person on the team who is doing the LEAST.
1. Using the RNG (Random Number Generator) to distribute Incarnate Shards puts them in the hands of undeserving players and can deny the shards to worthy players. Randomness should not be used to determine who obtains Incarnate boosts but should be rewarded to those who succesfully demonstrate mastery of their individual skills.
One person - and a person doing almost nothing, to boot - should NOT get the lion's share of shards on any given TF. Sorry, that's how I see it.
One player collecting all the loot on a team is the furthest thing from "random" in my book. -
Quote:One mission as a level 5 is still far too long! haHow the hell long does level 5 even last? One mission? Maybe a half depending on the length of said mission?
My tastes have evolved: at one time level 5 was interesting and exciting as I tried to get across Mercy with my little Dom. I've done that a million times now though, and have no compunctions about hitting Fast Forward. -
Quote:BZZT! Wrong on both counts. I level alts quickly in the AE because 1. I'm entitled - YES! ENTITLED! to get at the "sweet, sweet candy" in a timely fashion, because I have paid my dues with this game. I have been here since 2006 and already know how to play, and am pretty familiar with both sides of the game. If you do not agree, I am sorry but we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one.
megajoule: When the playstyle in question is all about breaking the game (to (a) get at the sweet sweet candy immediately and, IMO, without real effort and (b) to show that you're better, more clever, etc than the people who made it), then yeah.
2. Has nothing to do with "showing that [I] am better, more clever etc" than the developer, or better than anyone. What it SHOWS is that the lower levels are not all that fun to me. They'll be more fun with inherent Stamina, true, but I don't find level 5 all that scintillating.
Quote:I confess that some of my negative reaction is because I play this game to try to escape reality... but as soon as I log in, I'm surrounded by people, acting like people, with all that implies.
So... everyone who does not find level 5 scintillating excitement is "lazy, greedy and selfish." Wow. OK. -
Quote:Trapdoor can also one-shot with the best of 'em. He is REALLY resistant to Char, too. If it hits it wears off in about 15 seconds.Sorry, it does happen. I had three purples and an egg running plus some inherent defense at the instant he hit me with a *single attack* that did both 400+ points physical and 700+ points energy, on a blaster with barely over 1200 hit points. Technically I think I could have survived if I was maxed at 100%, but I'd not quite fully recovered from an earlier more ordinary hit; I didn't have that many greens available (tray started mostly loaded with purples and eggs) so wasn't using them when they would have been mostly wasted. Nearly full green bar to faceplant in a single instant while purpled up, leaving me to check the combat logs to figure out what the heck happened.
This is the incident in beta that caused me to say "you know, I can beat this guy solo by expending time, resources and effort, but a lucky shot from him trumps all that; I'm just going to bring friends when this goes live".
I think one thing that annoys me about all this is that some ATs can do all this, no problem. Others.... it don't matter what you bring, blues, purples, temp powers.... you have no chance whatsoever, doesn't matter if you run it one time or fifty times - you're not going to be able to complete it. This can be a big problem on servers with low redside populations. -
Quote:It is missing you. It sure didn't miss my IO-ed out Bane, and it reduced his blue bar to nothing and kept it there until I finally gave up and exited.
As an aside, I don't think I've seen this 'curse of weariness' yet, and I've done the mission on six characters so far, three of them solo. Either the curse is missing me, or my characters' recoveries are high enough that it doesn't bother me.
When it hits you you will know, believe me. It doesn't care about your recovery, it will slurp that down like a fine wine no matter what it is, and there you are, virtually naked.
Big fun -
Quote:I am glad this is working out for you, but as someone who has so far always been in the 0-2 shards category, you perhaps can understand my ire.Hmm I'm seeing the opposite BI and seeing a usually fairl even distribution of Shards on the Taskforces I run, almost everyone will get between 6 and 10 shards and I've never seen anybody get none, sometimes on Taskforces that don't lend themselves well to kill all or (as I prefer to) Kill most (you kill everything on the way to the target but don't clear the map) such as the Khan Taskforce (which has two huge outdoor maps which would take a decent chunk of time to clear) where someone only got 3 shards and the rest of us were on 6 or more.
My annoyance would be less if someone working hard were collecting the 7-8 shards, but no. Its always someone hanging around doing nothing except making sexual puns, acting as a non-hosping area rug, etc. That sort of grinds my gears. -
I have been on three TFs with various Incarnate'd alts, and I notice something odd:
*the laziest, most goof-off ninnyhammer on the team will get 7-8 shards.
*a few others will get two or three.
*one or two on the team will get none whatsoever.
Its enough to make me want to do a little door-sitting, to be honest. I recently tanked Reischmann and got nothing whatever for my pains, while Ninnyhammer #1 was giggling with glee as shards fell like rain. "Random"? Suuuuuure. [Spare me the scolding: I know random when I see it, and one person getting almost all the drops on an entire TF ain't it. Especially when this happens three times in a row.]
I am not at all accusing Guy here of using these tactics, let me make that clear. It just kinda makes me want to solo. -
Quote:This may seems snippy, but seriously... do you not think I TRIED using blues? I'm not an idiot. I have been in this game since 2006. I would have needed to enter the mission with FIFTY blues to overcome that. 50 probably would not have been enough; this is a serious debuff.Sounds like you got hit by the Curse of Weariness. Cuts your max endurance in half, and I believe it lasts five minutes. Grab a Cursebreaker temporary power from the Vanguard base, or simply stock up on blue inspirations.
If my endurance is gone, I can't fight. That's it. Especially with wave after wave of ambushes on TOP of an eb/av. Whoever thought this mission up needs a serious kick to the shins. -
QR: I'm getting better at this, and Trapdoor is no longer a problem, however I decided I wanted my Bane to try to fight Honoree and his sidekick the... well, the honorable way. Off I go.
I get to the final room, its all good, etc etc. when someone, somewhere - dont know if if was Honoree or someone else - hit me with this absolutely gawd-awful debuff that literally almost completely stopped my recharge.
Don't know about y'all, but Endurance is a requirement to fight over here. Tried running off to recover, etc. etc... haha! That must have been a ten-minute debuff, because I never was able to recover my endurance in any meaningful fashion. Meanwhile Rikti ambushes kept spawning on me.
I finally just stood still, let Honoree kill me and OUT. A larger sense of "epic fail" can hardly be imagined... I have a strong suspicion that the same person who designed the Reischmann TF designed this thing, epicfailepicfailepicfail. Bleh. Not fun. Taking away my ability to fight is not a "challenge." Heck, Trapdoor is more of a challenge than that. -
....because anyone who has ever leveled one up can tell you: there ain't no AT that is more in need of attacks, etc. for levels 16, 18 and 20 than VEATs. There is nothing more weak, more pathetic, more..... ARGH! than, say, a level 16 VEAT. *headdesk* this is made up for by utter magnificence later on, true. But at least until that first respec, there is some heavy-duty, teeth-gritted weary slogging going on.
Nothing more weak, except maybe a Kheld. But I really would not know; I got one to 24 once and simply could not delete fast enough.
The VEATs over here are LOVING INHERENT FITNESS!
p.s. before some wag chimes in with "my VEATs would never accept fitness, speak for yourself" yeah, statistical outliers are everywhere and.... no accounting for taste.
