This is probably one of the cleanest, gosh-durn nicest forums I've ever come across.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That just seems kinda sad to me. These are by far the rudest, most flame-filled boards I've been to.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Crevab, I know by now you must be tired of seeing it, but odds bodikins, man, you must come into town from time to time where you can hear the news, see the bright lights, etc.

usenet makes these forums looks like a sunny walk in a park filled with butterflies and flowers. livejournal for that matter plumbs depths unthought of here, which would make the mods break their fingers punching in deletes. most irc channels would ... well you get the picture.
  2. [ QUOTE ]

Vicomte de Valvert: "Dolt! Bumpkin! Insolent puppy! Jabberknowl!"

Cyrano: "How do you do? And I, Cyrano Savinien Hercule de Bergerac."
  3. [ QUOTE ]

Every poster has a right to an opinion, but without having intelligently argued that opinion in a public forum -- some posters are gonna get ripped a new one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But mooing the catchphrase of the moment (and "Doooooom" of course captures that theme with beautifully ironic onomatopoeia) just lacks style. Rip away, but with some panache. Otherwise, it is simply piling on, and with a notable lack of grace even for a graceless medium.

Or one could even take a risk and flame someone with "Dolt! Bumpkin! Insolent puppy! Jabberknowl!" and see if they know the comeback.
  4. My particular favorite is when someone makes a valid point about the downside of a nerf, and some jackass responds with a post that just says "DOOOOOOOOOOM!"

    Yes, I surely love those.

Super Speed used to give a good defense bonus. As it is fast enough out of the box, everyone was six-slotting it for defense instead of travel.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I misread the timestamp on SS having +def. In extenutation, I plead the mixed tense of saying "It IS fast enough out of the box," which made me think you meant those parameters currently applied on live. Sorry for the confusion.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
It used to BBhumeBB. They then took away that defence bonus and replaced it with a stealth component to keep the travel power safe for travel but not that useful in combat. Now, however, people are adding stealth to their super speed builds to that then can walk into the middle of a group of mobs as if they were invisible.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Superspeed has aggro mitigation but no +def. Addign stealth stacks the aggro mitigation, but the defense is purely derived from the Stealth power. Once you attack, you aggro normally.

Since SS was modified to remove acc or def modifiers and go with aggro mitigation within a few weeks of go-live, which is to say almost a year ago, it is irrelevant to the experience of players since go-live what it did back in the day.

Consistency is handy, but I can do without it when a bad design decision in applied consistently.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Superspeed in live gives no defense bonus whatsoever. This is simply wrong.
  8. [ QUOTE ]

Could you please, PLEASE elaborate on this? I don't know of anyone who was saying "Two minutes is too long for me to be safe from being mezzed while I'm trying to solo...could you please make it just 30 seconds? kthanks."

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Solo?

You are lucky we let you even log ON solo.

This is an MMOG, you dirty, nasty soloist. Your kind aren't wanted here.

(Just brushing up my chops...some of the brain police seem to be switching their sights from PLers back to soloists and I wanted to be ahead of the curve)
  9. [ QUOTE ]
If you have ever had fly as a power then you know that it has a -acc while in use. SS and SJ as far as I can tell have no such disadavantage so this -acc to SS and SJ would pretty much make it a little more even. I guess.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have a dear friend, blind from birth. She has never suggested everyone else's eyes be gouged out to make things a little more even, though she wouldn't mind being able to see.

If making things "even" was the developers' intent, they chose the wrong approach.

    Evil

Killer mimes would push the game over the T rating. That has to be the gag.
  11. [ QUOTE ]

People don't whine if they have a remedy at hand to their situation. They don't cry about something being "unfair" if they could just move on and do it in another mission.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Again, you overlook that some people will complain that a change is unfair, ill considered, intrusive, etc. because they consider it to be wrong.

Not because they do it themselves. Not because they lost an ability to exploit a feature. But because the intervention by authority was wrong.
  12. [ QUOTE ]

How many of those DEFINITELY powerlevelled all the way to lvl 20 or more? Certainly not 100%. Maybe half? Less?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't forget, as has been explained in many anti-PL threads before, even an experienced CoH player needs scores of hours in a new AT to learn the subtleties of their new powers.

Once you succumb to PLing - especially in a manner explicitly designed as such by the devs in the WL - you will forever be behind the learning curve and may as well delete the character.

The problem is that PLing destroys brain cells, so people who engage in it, or even observe it without defending their remaining brain cells with large doses of moral outrage (which research has proven is not harmful, no matter how addictive it is) are too confused and retarded to understand the dangers of this pernicious practice.

We are even too messed up to be properly grateful to the people who are here to protect us and the game from PLing.
  13. Maybe they disagree with the notion that it was a failure. Just a thought.

    Interesting.....

    [ QUOTE ]

Rrrgh...Spell Alucard backwards, darn it! Alucard is the *correct* spelling, as the most famous vampire of all time is not *Dracura*!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Kosh, it's an anime reference, thus filtered both thru the Japanese' unique cultural take on things, and their phonetics.
It is not a reference to Son Of Dracula, in which Lon Chaney, Jr. played Alucard. In Hellsing, it is indeed Arucard (the English dubs do reset it to Alucard).

It is generally unfortunate for English F/SF purists to encounter the anime view of their old favorites. I had to be given heroic doses of single malt scotch (in the absence of fayalin) to recover the first time I saw the anime version of Lensman.

Im gonna make this short... For the past updates all of them have had content pulled out of them and pushed back to the next update. Im just wondering how long this will go on and why tell us the content that suppose to be in an update and then push it back to the next one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Software development is a fairly constant battle between what you want to put in the next release, and what can be coded, tested, and verified stable by the (rough) release date to which you are committed. If a module starts failing milestones, then you end up making the hard calls - what HAS to go out the door, and what can wait; what CAN you get back on schedule if you shif resources, and what wouldn't be ready if Christ and His Saints came down and crunched code for you.
  17. Dear Mr. Emmert -

Many, many thanks. This kind of flexible approach seems to capture the best potential in any game system. Looking forward to playing CoH for many years to come.

  18. As with our own timeline, the future of (meta)humanity lies in space.

At least that would be my taste.

Let's just have a huge, scything blade at the entrance of the mission to save time.

Thank you, but we wanted a block of flats, and not an abbatoir.

And no, you cannot be a Freemason.

Who knows what evil lurks in the minds of men...

    [/ QUOTE ]

OK, but you can't use that tagline until you put pistols in the powers mix.
  21. [ QUOTE ]

Until HE says to the contrary, I'm remaining convinced that he meant that every mission that *requires* you to beat the boss *to finish the mission* mentions the presence of a boss.

IOW: The issue isn't undocumented bosses, because you don't need to beat those to be able to solo.

And, at this time, I believe all missions that require you to defeat a boss do list the presence of a boss, with one exception.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not that either, and in any case, we really really should not have to parse statements like this finer than Jesuits would to arrive a an interpretation.

Bosses who must be defeated are not identified up front. And even if they were, with a big banner and spotlights, it would not alter the profound change in game play introduced in issue 3.

Mr. Emmert can reframe the vision of the game all he wishes - the boss design decision itself was flawed.

However, tossing out the "oh we always meant this" or "oh, the game tells you that" remarks, which then become a separate focus of the debate, have worked well to draw attention (pro or con) away from that core question.

    [ QUOTE ]

This is disingenuous. Bosses spawn in missions where they must be overcome just to move through the environment.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Or avoided using powers available to every character.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But doesn't that imply that every character intending to run on small teams (or solo) must adhere to one of several cookie-cutter formats to avoid boss aggro?

This begs the question of opponents specifically designed to defeat stealth and aggro mitigation (Rikti drones come to mind). Their attack triggers the aggro of other mobs in range.

I like shinobi and ninjutsu as much as anyone, but don't know that mandating them as must haves are the appropriate answer to the ubiquity of bosses.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
And I even went on to say "BUT, Defeat All missions and Named Bosses are the only ones you accually have to fight." Did you miss that? Those are the only 2 times you have to defeat the boss.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is disingenuous. Bosses spawn in missions where they must be overcome just to move through the environment.
  24. [ QUOTE ]

I am beginning to think that the 'you should think about bringing allies' text is the new clue, though. I've seen it several times since I3 went live and hardly at all before that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not sure about that. I kept encountering that phrase with a Fifth Column arc last weekand kept thinking, "Well, I'll give it a shot and if I can't beat it, go get help." Never happened. Knife through butter - though it was a lvl 39 MA/SR scrapper, to be sure. There were multiple bosses, mostly orange to a lvl 39, and one red in there (bosses that that character can still take down handily in Issue 3).

Maybe it is intended as a codeword for "bosses present," but predates Issue 3.

Anyone remember who was suing whom over Nazis? Was it a game company vs a comic co or what? I'm such a geek that I know this stuff....

[/ QUOTE ]I don't remember a lawsuit... but IIRC TSR (the company which published AD&D) had "Nazi" as either a copyright or trademark (I don't remember if it was an (c) or (r) after the name) in their Indiana Jones RPG.

It was a TM, and a rather famous gaffe in the industry :-)
