Seems to me many of the supporters of Option 1 are crying, "Don't impede progress!" That's just bunk.
Fact: Option 2 will NOT prevent new stuff from being made. It still says that all the same stuff will be redone. It only states that the existing stuff will still remain on the lists so that anyone who wants to use them may. That's all. -
Quote:And honestly and with no offense meant, Delphine does look like she's just got blue wings stuck to her head, not the fancy fin ears I think you imagine them to be.Quote:I think the point is that the its easier to ignore what something "is" with lessened details. The more the art team fills in the blanks (so to speak), the harder it is to hand-wave away what is versus "this is the best I could improvise."
I think Psyte has stated it fairly well, which is why I included that quote too. The less-defined objects allow for a wider range of 'interpretation' and use of the players' imagination, which can sometimes be a GOOD thing. -
Quote:And a real 'live' example of this -- a character I've had for years now on Virtue, Delphine:Thing is, in both of those examples the low res version is more versatile.
That's why I like that legacy tailor suggestion, which is the best of both options.
She's designed to be an aquatic hero, a non-human being, not simply a human being in a suit. The central fin on atop her head is actually the 'mohawk' hairstyle. The side fins are the 'wings' that the earlier screenshots displaying the new look clearly showed are -significantly- different and render this look impossible.
Changes like implementing the 'new wings' without retaining the option to use the 'old wings' totally invalidate the entire character concept. How is it that people can't see that that is a bad thing? Every time you alter a piece to make it 'more detailed and specific' you make it more -rigid- in it's uses and invalidate a whole slew of more widely varied, 'out of the box' uses it may have had before. -
Option 2, please! Taking away options people have been using for years is NEVER a good thing! And that's just what they are -- options. If people don't want to use the old items, they don't have to.
Some sub-categories to aid in organization within the costume creator would be great, certainly, but I can't accept a loss of existing options, personally, under any circumstances.
I think the most telling point is: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What you think is 'better' is not necessarily 'better' to me. And vice-versa. In matters where the only real judgement is a subjective one, the option that allows for the greater amount of choices is clearly the best. -
Going back to actual 'lost' items again, I've been wanting the original Pointy Ears of the old 'Heads with Pointy Ears' head back ever since they replaced them with the new ear system. If you could make some 'Pointy Ears' for the new ear system that are shaped like the old Pointy Ears, I'd be grateful. (They might stand a -little- refinement -- the old ones really did have a very sharp point that made them look a bit low-poly, but very small tweaks only!)
I did see one other post earlier in this thread about them, but the ears in the shots were mostly covered by hair. Here's a shot showing the original 'Pointy Ears' as well as one showing the current 'Elf Ears' for comparison. Looking at them from the side, with the head in profile, is the way to really see the differences that make the Elf Ears unappealing, as a substitute. (To me, anyway.)
First, the old, original Pointy Ears:
Then the new, current Elf Ears:
And don't you DARE take away the ability to use this hairstyle and the tiara together! I can accept the slight clip, really. I'd be really, REALLY unhappy to suddenly not be able to use these to create this look anymore. -
Quote:Last I remember there were roaches (or some sort of beetley-bugs) swarming around on the floors. Did they send in an exterminator when I wasn't looking? Or is it just that other folks are not looking down? Once you know they're there, they add a definite dash of 'creepy-crawly' to the ambiance, IMO.Is it just me, or are those sewers really clean.. I mean, where are all the rats and other little creatures scurrying around?
On other fronts, I'd really love to get some customization for movement powers -- both the usual travel powers and the 'specialty sprints.' In particular, I've longed to be able to recolor the Power Slide effect from purple to blue ever since it came out. It seems so perfect for a surfing effect, I still can't believe it wasn't given a more watery hue. -
Okay, one thing I've wished for quite some time: Could you add the old (original) animations for the Tanker Fire Shield and Plasma Shield back into the game, perhaps as alternate choices? I sorely miss them, and feel the new versions are frankly, pretty weak.
The originals were similar to the Blazing Aura animation, with the elliptical 'halo' around the character, though minus the pulsing flames that fan out on the ground around the character. IMO, they just looked so much better. I suppose maybe they were changed because they were very prominent and may have gotten 'in the way' a bit too much for some folks who played with the set. But making them an option would solve that, now that we have things in the game like alternate animation choices. -
Hopefully they won't break any existing costumes by removing any colors. That would be a truly terrible path to take, IMO. I'm pretty sure though, that one of the devs (Posi?) has already said that the powers will have their own custom palettes available, depending on the 'flavor' of the powerset. The stone stuff was one mentioned -- it would have more 'earthy' tones and such, but probably not neon turquoise or whatnot. That sort of thing. So I'm thinking what you're seeing in the shots that have been released are custom palettes for specific powersets, not the general costume creator one.

I've got exactly the same problem. Even been trying for approx 3 days now as well. (Well, 2 days, and the night preceeding.) Can we at least get an ETA of when it might be up again? (Kind of assuming it's been turned off for one reason or another, as it's been up and running before and is generally tested technology.)
-
Well, it may have started working again for a bit, but I tried to copy characters last night and again today, and so far, nothing. The tool seems to work fine, as far as the web page goes. But when I log in, none of the characters have been copied over.

A bug with the Magic Bolero: There currently is no color selector for setting the internal colors -- they always default to black/black.
There is a workaround for this: Switch from Magic Bolero to Trenchcoat, then select the coat tail and set the Interior Colors to the colors you would like. Switch back to the Magic Bolero then, and the interior colors should remain as you set them for the trench.
While there is a way around this, the Magic Bolero really should have it's own selectors for the interior colors. -
As for the 'double capes' -- I wish they would at least allow us to keep wings with the trenchcoats and magic bolero. That would at least let the winged types have -some- sort of cape-like element in their costume.
RE: Setting interior colors on the Magic Bolero -- it really does need it's own interior color selectors. I did find a simple work-around though: Switch from Magic Bolero to Trenchcoat. Go to the coat tail section and set the colors you want as the interior colors for the coat tail. Then switch back to Magic Bolero. The colors should be retained as the interior colors of the bolero. (The copy colors to all locations trick should work too. This just helps if you don't want to mess with ALL of your costume colors.) -
This sounds good to me! And yes, I've paid (full price) for all my stuff along the way too. For which I've received several years of good times! That's value.
And seriously, hasn't everyone already heard of the Good vs. Evil box? BOTH games (eep!) in one box and the last I saw, it was selling at discounted prices that were cheaper than full retail for one. With just the previous game-grant and the GvE box on the shelf . . . well, I don't see where the monetary situation is really any different. I know whenever I try to get a new friend interested in CoX, I always make sure to tell them to look for the GvE box.
(At the time I'm writing this, I see GvE listed on the web-sites of at least 2 major retailers for $19.99.)
(And one major online retailer has it for $11.99! Cheaper than the price of the included month of play! Just saying.) -

Would you please switch the locations of the Load Options to File and Save Options to File buttons so that they are in line with the four save/load buttons above them?
I just know that someday I'm going to make/load a character and click on Load (Chat Settings) from Default File, Load (Window Settings) from Default file buttons, and then inadvertently click on the Save Options to File button when I really want to click on the Load Options from File button.
Thank you.

Absolutely! I very nearly did just that earlier tonight myself. It was a close thing. -
I agree wholeheartedly with having some actual 'in-game' content that gives clues and points people toward things like the unlockable contacts. It's one of the main problems (IMO, of course) with MMOs today that there's just not enough game 'in-game.' And usually performing web searches and printing out lists of coordinates and a checklist of required elements . . . well, that's just about as dry as it sounds. It's not putting the 'game' in the game at all.
Such things really do much less than they potentially could for actual enjoyment, due to the process I just described above. It's not playing, it's googling for information and that's just not a good game, IMO. Please put the 'game' back in the game where it belongs with 'in-game' clues and mysteries to unravel instead of web searches. -
Why not add another $2-5 to the subscription price? That's not going break anyone. Sure. Why not add another $5 in another 6 months. And maybe 8 months later we'll tack on another $2.50. None of those are terribly huge amounts of money, so what's the big deal?
Wake up!
Hate to break it to you, but every dollar counts! This is how we end up paying $50 a month in under 3 years. Is that still sounding affordable to you? Have you seen the price of gasoline lately? Heck, they never raised that more than about 10 cents a gallon on any given day. But is the resultant price so easy to swallow? I think not.
If CoV brings ANY change in the monthly subscription rate I will simply not buy it. $15/month is the HIGH END of the scale for these games. Every game out there is charging either that much or less. Even SWG, the game that SET that high-end bar at $15 did not institute any rate changes with the addition of their vaunted "Jump to Lightspeed" space expansion. No other game that I'm aware of has ever raised a subscription rate due to an expansion release.
That CoV will release as a stand-alone rather than an 'expansion-only' box means that it has the potential to earn MORE money than a dedicated expansion because its stand-alone status means that it can draw in NEW players and build the subscription base rather than appeal only to existing players. If it doens't bring in a single penny more per month per subscriber than CoH already does, it's still making money on sales of the actual box (which can also be sold for approximately $20 more per box due to being a stand-alone game -- IE for the full game price of $50 rather than the usual expansion price of $30) and on new subscriptions generated.
In the long run, these games are making their money from volume of subscriptions and RETENTION of subscribers. The best thing NCSoft and Cryptic can do at this point is to keep providing the great game they have been for the same price, as is the market standard, and keep all their subscribers happy while attracting more people to their game instead of losing them to games who are charging the now standard $15/mo. or LESS for their gaming experience.
Just in my opinion, of course.
