  3. While this is not a very widely encountered issue, it is indeed 100+ character-long words that cause issues in description fields that allow more than 100 characters. Don't dwell on this too long, you're not likely to start using such words...or are you?

As for the issue with mobs spawning at -1 level, this should be fixed in the next build that's currently on the Training Room.

The ATI cursor issue is being investigated.
  4. Badges
    • The progress bar on the Firefighter and Fire Chief badges only track the number of Hellions defeated.
    Masterminds
    • Mastermind pets occasionally exhibit odd behavior when going through doors and elevators.
    Missions
    • The "Crown of Glory" story arc does not reward an XP bonus on completion.
    • Arrest all gang members, look for clues from Lorenzo Di Costa the patrol dialogue results in text displaying as "Patroller1_searching_dialog" and "Patroller2_searching_dialog"
    • Unable to complete mission - After accepting Mission 4 for the storyarc "Midnight Draws Near" at level 20 if you level to 23 you will not be able to complete the follow up mission.
    • In the Katie Hannon Task Force, Katie may stop following her rescuers.
    Mission Architect
    • Earth Assault is not among the powers selectable in Mission Architect. Players can leave Architect missions with collection bars still on their screen.
    Powers
    • Rest is no longer automatically put in your action bar when leveling to 2.
    Powers Customization
    • Stone Armor: Rock/Brimstone Armor are not scaled correctly for the Huge body.
    • Spines: Monstrous Legs: Spines do not display correctly on legs.
    • Sonic Dispersion VFX do not animate correctly with the Dark theme
    Ticket Vendor
    • The Ticket Vendor does not sell various Dual Origin Enhancements.
    UI
    • After doing /bindsave then /bindsave and hitting F7, the text displays as "Ready!".
    • If you use the enter key to make a line break, the UI thinks you are putting in a html tag and gives you an error.
    • Text/UI: Editing a Description field that have over 100 characters allowed, the text will overflow out of the textbox if you use a word that is longer that 100 characters.
    • Cursors sometimes don't show up in I16 with NVidia graphics cards. It is thought to happen when players start their computer in dual monitor mode with certain NVIDIA drivers. If you restart your computer in single monitor mode, you should even be able to turn on dual-monitor mode and still have the cursor show up in game. However, this also means that if your cursor isn't showing up, you need to set it to single monitor and then restart in order for the cursor to show up.
    Zones
    • Pocket D - Pets fall through the floor in the Tiki Room.
    • Pocket D - Tiki Lounge Bartender's speech bubble appears below avatar.

    "Is this on?"

"Greetings! I, Dr. Aeon, the greatest mind the world has ever known, have been asked to make an announcement on behalf of the budding architects who have benefitted with the invention of my virtual world, Mission Architect (generously funded by Crey Industries):"

Congratulations to the City of Heroes' First Annual Architect Awards winners! The winners were announced at the Hero-Con 2009 banquet. The winners' arcs truly exemplify the extraordinary fan creativity and originality that the Mission Architect was designed to showcase.

It was a challenge to narrow down the nominees and winners because we received so many excellent submissions. In the end, we had to make some tough choices. However, don't be surprised if some of the nominees receive Developer's Choice designation in the City of Heroes mission lists!

We hope all of you had as much fun creating the arcs as we did evaluating and playing them. Watch for future announcements about Mission Architect, and we wish all of you future protégés of Dr. Aeon good luck for next year!

We've posted the names of the arcs, the Arc ID numbers, and the winning architect names below so that you can easily identify and enjoy the fruits of the winners' labors.

  9. There is a map disconnect issue specific to the Halloween event that will be fixed with a live build this week. This should make the deadly Apocalypse less of a lag or crash inducing catastrophe.

As for the state of the EU servers, we are constantly trying to make sure our infrastructure can support our game as best as possible and whenever our monitoring systems detect an issue that can be attributable to our servers or our network, you can be sure that our engineers will be on the case the same day and even instantly in many cases.

There are many factors to take into account that could contribute to making the game laggy, however we can only encourage you all to /petition it whenever you experience a problem with the game since our CS and QA teams can then relay the information to higher instances.

It has happened several times that problems experienced by our players were due to external issues. I'm not saying that it can never be the servers themselves or their supporting infrastructure, I'm just saying that we always have to take several factors into consideration before being able to pinpoint the origin of a problem and it helps us tremendously when we get as many petitions as possible on the same issue since it allows us to eliminate certain factors immediately.

    I hope I make sense!
  10. *******Trivia Qualifiers and Finals on October 24th, 2009 at the Doubletree Hotel during the City of Heroes® Hero-Con 2009*******

Think you're an expert on the City of Heroes® game and its associated lore? Well, it's time to put your money where your mouth is! Participate in the CoH Trivia Challenge at Hero-Con, and you could be crowned the king or queen of trivia and win some sweet prizes to boot!

Here's how it will work. Throughout the day on Saturday, October 24th, we will be throwing multiple 30 minute Trivia "Qualifiers." Simply report to the "Midnighter Club" (The Player Hangout Room) during the designated times printed in the Hero-Con schedule, and you will have an in-depth multiple choice quiz administered to you based on the City of Heroes game and its associated lore. You will have exactly 30 minutes to answer as many of the questions as you can (plus a few fill-in-the-blank questions which will act as tie breakers) and you can only take the quiz ONCE - so make it count!
All the quizzes will be tallied up and the six individuals who score the highest will be called onto the stage during the Hero-Con banquet the evening of Saturday, October 24th! Those six people will then compete against each other in one round of live CoH Trivia and a champion will emerge!

Legions of Zombies, Werewolves, Jack-o-Lanterns, and other foul denizens are preparing to descend upon Paragon City™ and the Rogue Isles™. This year they’re bringing even more powerful allies! The new apocalypse is deadlier than ever as mysterious monstrosities are joining forces with the Eidolons, Shivans, and others. Paragon City and the Rogue Isles could be in terrible peril, and only the greatest Heroes and Villains can turn back the tide.
    • Starts: Tuesday, 20th October 2009 at 8:59 a.m. Pacific and British Time (9H59 Central EuropeanTime / 11:59 a.m. Eastern Time)
    • Ends: Tuesday, 3rd November 2009 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific and British Time (00H59 Central European Time / 2:59 a.m. Eastern Time).

    Deadly Apocalypse

As if our Heroes and Villains didn’t have enough foul-smelling fiends with rotting flesh to deal with during a zombie apocalypse, this year Heroes and Villains have to come up with new strategies to tackle a new terror. When Haunted Sigils appear, destroy them quickly and prepare for wave after wave of relentless foes. Only after all the foes have been defeated will you be rewarded with a ghoulish surprise. It’s a trick and treat!

Badges, Temporary Costumes, and Other Rewards

The greater the challenge, the greater the reward! This year our Heroes and Villains receive new trick or treat prizes. Everyone who completes the various stages of the Deadly Apocalypse will receive a badge, and all of last year’s goodies will be back for players who missed them.

Be sure to visit Ravenwing Cabbal’s Annah in Croatoa or Granny Beldam in Nerva Archipelago to learn more about the 2009 Halloween Event activities.

But before you launch yourself into the action, there are a couple of things we need to make you aware of:
    • You should enable the Events Channel on your Chat channel Tab to see in which zone the Deadly Apocalypse (announced as ’Supernatural activity detected in Zone X’) or the Zombie Invasion is occurring.
    • If the Halloween Event kicks off in a Zone that has multiple instances, it is only occurring in ONE zone (for example, if there are two instances of Atlas Park, check both Atlas Park and Atlas Park 2).

    Happy trick or treating!

  • We promised you a bunch of fun activities at Hero-Con 2009 this year, and we plan to deliver! Here are a few contests that you're definitely going to want to participate in while you're at the event!

    The Hero-Con Costume Contest!

It's almost Halloween and you need to come up with a costume anyway, right? So why not make it CoH related? If you do, you can enter it in our Official Hero-Con '09 Costume Contest! We're looking for heroes and villains specifically for this event - whether it's your own character or a signature one from the game! Just keep it hero or villain themed and a character that is NOT trademarked outside of the City of Heroes game! Also - please leave any realistic-type weapons such as sharp wood, steel or anything else that could be seen as posing a danger to yourself or anyone else at home!

The Hero-Con Costume Contest will take place towards the end of the big banquet dinner on the evening of Saturday, October 24th. Go ahead- show up to the banquet with your costume on already if you'd like! Towards the end of the evening, we'll bring all the costumed heroes and villains on stage to strut their stuff! Our esteemed panel of judges will award a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner as well as two honorable mentions. Those lucky individuals will win great prizes! There's no separate category for heroes or villains, just the best costumes that emerge out of everyone who enters. Participants will be judged on the following criteria: 1) Creativity 2) Costume Detail, 3) Personality/Attitude and 4) Relevance to the City of Heroes universe.

So what are you waiting for? Get that costume ready to go! We can't wait to see what you come up with!

Official Contest Rules/Conditions and specific prize information coming soon!

    The Hero-Con Live Mission Contest!

Get ready to participate in one of the most exciting and interactive events of Hero-Con, the City of Heroes® Live Mission! The Live Mission gives you a chance to experience for yourself what it's like to be a Hero or Villain in our game, as teams of 8 run through a series of missions to obtain the 10 keys of the M.A.G.I. vault. Encounter many of the signature characters of City of Heroes and battle it out against an array of foes. Will Azuria regain the keys, or will the villainous Mikey the Ear gain access to the vault? It's all up to you!

So grab a team and sign up as soon as possible, for great fun and some incredible prizes! Sign up sheets will be available beginning from 4-7pm on Friday, October 23rd at The Doubletree Hotel. Just head towards the Registration Area on the 2nd Floor "Gateway" foyer. Even if you don't have a team ready to go, make sure to still sign up because we'll be putting pick-up groups together!

It's going to be a blast and the first place team will win some loot!

    See you there!

Official Contest Rules/Conditions and specific prize information coming soon!

    The CoH Trivia Challenge!

So start studying up on your lore now - it could help you win BIG!!!

  • The EU server status page should be functional now, please PM me if any of you notices further incoherence in the information displayed on that page.

As for the weekly maintenances, 2 days ago we announced a new Maintenance schedule that we will be testing from next week on. There will be 1 weekly maintenance instead of 2, and it will take place on Thursdays to free up the Friday slot. We are only testing this new schedule for the time being and may need to revert back to 2 maintenances a week if the impact on the live servers becomes visible.

    *******************************************

The Halloween Event has been updated for 2009. In addition to the Zombie Apocalypse and the normal City Zone Trick or Treating, City Zones can now host the “Deadly Apocalypse” Event.

Heroes and Villains who enable the “Zone Event” Channel on their Chat Tab will be alerted to the new Deadly Apocalypse Event. (Noted as “Supernatural activity”.

    Deadly Apocalypse Event

The fog has rolled in, the sky has darkened, and something is not right. A howling wolf sounds in the night and players are alerted, via Global Alert, that the event is happening in a City Zone (Trial Zones, Hazard Zones, PvP Zones, and Co-Op zones do not have the event running in those zones).
    • As the Halloween Deadly Apocalypse occurs in a zone, the sky changes to a different color.
    • If the Deadly Apocalypse Event is not already running in a zone, Costume salvage redemption at Annah / Granny Beldam has a chance to trigger the Deadly Apocalypse event across all viable zones
    • 4 Haunting Banners (destructible objects) appear across a zone, but are surrounded by a magical barrier (they appear on the MiniMap)
    • Each Haunting Banner is protected by one of four Haunting Defenders/Ambushers who protect the magical barrier
    • There is a chance that Elite Bosses appear as Defenders, depending on the size of the group
    • Players must defeat Defenders (of each "type") before the magical barrier goes down and they can attack the Banner itself
    • If all 4 Haunting Banners are destroyed before the timer runs out, an Aspect of the Sigil (Giant Monster) appears
    • If all 4 Haunting Banners are not destroyed before the timer runs out, the Aspect of the Sigil does NOT spawn and the event cleans itself up
    • If either condition is fulfilled, the event cleans itself up.

    NOTE:
    • Players who are within 250 feet of a Banner will have their User Interface (UI) taken over by the Event UI which shows the timer and their status
    • If players travel outside of the radius of the Banner, the UI goes away
    • UI displays a progress bar which shows how close they are to defeating the themed type of mob
    • The status of each Haunting Banner is represented by an Icon in the Event UI. When all Banners appear in the zone, they are shown in the Event UI. Once a particular Banner is defeated (i.e. Transparent Terrors), its representative icon is “blacked out”.
    • The Red Progress bar indicates how close the player is to bringing the Banner to “vulnerability”. As blue creeps in and takes over, that shows the player is making progress towards making the Banner vulnerable.
    • If the Players do not manage to defeat all four Banners in time, the Giant Monster will not appear and the event will clean itself up. The Player will be alerted to the end of the event because the zone will revert to "normal" and a closing sound effect will sound.

    Badges

The following badges can be earned by participating in the Deadly Apocalypse (Halloween) Event:
    • Dark Fiend - participate in defeat of Dark Fiend Banner
    • Hell Hath No Fury - participate in defeat of Women Scorned Banner
    • Terror - participate in defeat of the Transparent Terrors Banner
    • Monster Masher - participate in defeat of the Monster Mayhem Banner
    • Monstrous - participate in the defeat of the Aspect of the Sigil Giant Monster
    • Hell and Back (Accolade) - receive Dark Fiend, Hell Hath No Fury, Terror, Monster Masher, and Monstrous badges to earn this Accolade.

    Feedback points

We hope you have enjoyed the 2009 Halloween Event Test, and are looking for feedback in the following areas:
    • Are objectives clear when the Event is running?
    • Are rewards being handed out correctly?
    • Are there any problems with the event occurring in any City Zone? (Note: The event will only be present In Paragon City or the Rogue Isles City Zones, and not in any PvP Zones, Hazard Zones, Trial Zones or Co-Op Zones)
    • Are there any graphical effect bugs?
    • Do banner icons appear correctly on the MiniMap when the event is running?
    • Do waypoints correctly appear when the event is running? (Note: Navigation waypoints of active Missions orient players to the Halloween Event objectives when a player’s character is near one, and should disappear when they leave the area.)
    • Are enemy NPCs appearing at the appropriate level? (i.e. a Level 50 should be able to fight side-by-side with a Level 5 character).
    • Are all badges awarded correctly?

Feedback is important to our development process, there are two types of feedback and both are helpful although some give us more insight and are more easily adapted into game changes.
    • Objective Feedback: Objective feedback is based upon what you as a user see or experience that other users may also see and experience. This feedback usually can be replicated easily as it involves facts and unbiased opinions. Example: When using the base editor items are sometimes getting caught in columns or pillars.
    • Subjective Feedback: Subjective feedback is based upon how you feel or experience the game as yourself. This experience may not necessarily be replicated because it is based on feeling and emotion. Subjective feedback is important to us but it is usually helpful if more information is present to describe what and why you feel the way you do. Example: I like the way the graphics look on my shield animation it gives me the feeling of being truly super-powered.
  • The North American Training room will be unavailable between 12PM Pacific (3PM Eastern) and 2PM Pacific (5PM Eastern Time) today.
