Quote:Except that it CAN be done reliably each time once the bugs are fixed. If the merits aren't worth doing the trial for, find a different reason to do it. If you can't, don't run it. Content doesn't have to be for everyone.
Frankly, saying reward/=time spent, and only talking about merits is getting real old.
This trial takes time and effort. Making the reward bigger doesn't change the fact that you have to develop strategies and practice. If it can't be done successfully every time you run it, I say great. It's about time there's something to do that doesn't have an easy button.
That's not the issue.
Also you notice I didn't mention merits when I said it isn't worth doing. I'm looking for something that PERMANENTLY improves my character, cause the CoP just reads like the perfect place to add something like that.
Uber, from what I've been reading in various threads many DO see it as akin to endgame content. Which is why I thought it should reward as such. Merits and temp power aren't a good enough reason to deal with "herding cats."
But the poster above me hit the nail on the head: not all content is for everyone. Just like base raids, pvp, rp, etc.
I can live with that.
However I'd just like content that the devs worked hard on to be done by the most number of people. -
Quote:I'd hope you could put anything up there. If not then I'd have quit this mmo ages ago.You really need to read what his post actually said in particularly the assumptions used.
But anyway, Here is the simple question for you. Is there anything other than a blaster you could put in there ?
Ofcourse since this thread is about blasters I thought it might make more logical sense to talk about what the thread is discussing.
I guess I should have jumped in the thread and said that my ff defenders are awesome. -
Quote:You did a better job at that than I would have. LOL.LOL
You think all Corruptors take /Sonic or /Traps? You realize how few have Indomitable Will? Read your links. Seriously. The dispersion powers guard against Hold, Immobilize, and Disorient. IW's recharge is 360 vs a 90 second duration and it only adds Fear to the list.
Perma-Doms are well covered. With that exception, FEW builds of the support ATs have any mez protection, and even then it's gimp compared to the melee ATs.
ALL Blasters can fire through ALL mez. PERIOD.
lol... it's just so simple and you don't get it... even citing sources you clearly don't understand hahaha...
I love how the forums pick ONE or two primary/secondaries and apply that to say that that's how ALL of it plays. -

Fascinating thread. Having read this thread in total I can see where both sides are coming from.
Personally I find my non-softcapped, high recharge blasters to be good at soloing.
I also find the few SO'd only blasters I have to be also good at soloing.
On the right teams (read insane buff/debuff amounts) their damage output is great.
My favorite team is still a mix of buffers/debuffers/blasters.
As an aside, I've always found MMs boring as spit with how trivial they make things.
Why A Blaster? Cause it's fun! -

Quote:This isn't a comic book.In my opinion, that is exactly where Scrappers are now.
In the comics, great power comes with great responsibility. Tankers have been burdened with being responsible for aggro and being the front line, usually alone. I guess the power got lost in the mail. If merely surviving is your definition of power, Hibernate and Phase Shift are the most powerful things in the game.

Quote:yeah I LOLing irl while reading that thread right now. There's a whole 'nother thread where Another_Troll is holding up his ignorance-based argument despite being bombarded with more than a hundred posts that succinctly and simply show why he's wrong. There's no reason to start trying to show him any sense here.
Cause you know blaster drop down dead the second they are mezzed amirite?
Cause we all know that corrupters and doms can attack while mezzed . . . o wait, they aren't the AT that can do that.
EDIT: I'm afraid to tell you what I think about that other thread without getting mod smacked. For anyone else looking to giggle are pure nonsensical, have at it: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...=238663&page=2
I especially like that part where an AT with .75 damage mod is said to do more damage than one with 1.125 damage mod.
Math is hard. LMFAO! -
Quote:Except for the part that where my blasters can ATTACK WHILE Mezzed: usually killing, stunning, or kbing what mezzed them, or I don't know . . . pop a break free. This is correct but doesn't go far enough. Cascade failure is actually the preferred way for a blaster to lose their defense. Much worse is for one mez attack to hit a blaster, then they have lost most of their defense, most of their damage output, and any ability to regain hitpoints at a significant rate.
Amazingly my toons that die the least are my blasters. -
Quote:to clarify again: I said better multi-team tools, not VOIP. The devs can SURELY develop better multi team tools that have NOTHING to do with VOIP. Other mmos have managed it.Yeah the debate about VoIP for this game has been surfacing for years. It's not really surprising that this CoP trial has provided yet another example of where it can be useful.
But even though it can be usuful I'm still firmly in the camp that this game should never dabble with creating a voice chat feature embedded directly in the game. I think it's fairly easy for the people who want to use it to set up their own third party voice chat servers using Vent and the like. I don't really want our Devs to waste any time trying to work in a clone of that capability here, especially as long as there's still a significant percentage of the playerbase who would never use it or would never WANT to use it.
Viable solutions for VoIP for this game exist already. Use them if you want, but please let's stop collectively suggesting the Devs waste time "reinventing the wheel" for this here. I'm for the Devs developing other tools that make the current in-game chat system work better. Those improvements would ultimately benefit everyone, not just the voice chat advocates. -
Quote:Hmmm, I'd argue for a game where many many players still run comps that can't use Ultra mode and can't run VOIP tools at the same time as the game that better better multi-team tools is a little more important than you make it out to be.While better multi-team tools would be nice, I don't concur that they would be as useful as Ventrilo or another outside VoIP tool. The quickest method of communication is still vocal, and the other MMOGs that have introduced their own VoIP solutions have done so rather poorly, to the point that their players still mostly use Ventrilo. It may be best if Paragon Studios does not repeat the mistakes made by other MMOG developers and waste resources on developing a VoIP solution, when there are already better and more suitable tools for the job available elsewhere.
But I don't disagree, PS shouldn't waste it's time on VOIP development. -
Also this idea that tanks are rare is just utter and complete nonsense.
I've played EVERY DAY since I18/GR launched and EVERY DAY I've seen more than 2-3 tanks in every zone.
When I typed /sea today at 9AM Easter I saw multiple of them across every zone in the game.
Just saying. /shrug -
Quote:Not totally correct. There are SEVERAL IO sets that increase your damage. From past discussions I KNOW that Angry Citizen and old stalker player used them to boost his stalker's damage so that it simulated a damage mod increase on his stalker. You could also walk up to him as a Stalker in Hide and use /em batsmash.
You'll be "fighting" him as much as any Tanker would be "fighting him."
And a Tanker as two options: win or wuss; and even when not fighting an AV Tankers are hampered by their attacks.
You argue statemating to an AV is better than simply not being able to survive it. I counter that by saying there's lots of ways to increase your own survivability in this game and almost always you can layer them, and more are added all the time. Any AV a Scrapper can't solo now, there's a good chance in the future he'll be able to whenever a new temp power(depending on your personal rules) or IO set comes out. There's no real offensive equivalent to capping your Defenses, and there's no Wedding Band or Eye of the Magus for killing things(Geas makes me laugh). Even with the Incarnate system, it's not not particularly geared to increase damage.
.
And once again why in god's green earth do you think that soloing AVs is the balance point. NO WAY IN HELL IS IT.
As eloquently pointed out by ClawsandEffect, sets that can solo AVs are RARE!
You don't like that tankers will have to give up some of their survivability to get the damage buffs you want, we know.
Tough. -

Quote:The game needs better multi team tools so that we don't have to go OUTSIDE the game to find them.I play on Champion, which was one of the few servers in the green last night, and we ran an impromptu blue side Cathedral of Pain trial Monday night which we completed in less than 14 minutes, with no use of temporary powers, with the Storm AV or "that giant purple man."
Yes, the Cathedral of Pain Trial is difficult. Yes, the Storm AV is more difficult than Big Red. However, even with the Storm AV, the Cathedral of Pain Trial is far from impossible. IMO, the use of a VoIP tool such as Ventrilo helps immensely as a successful CoP trial requires communication between teams.
I highly recommend reading this guide to the CoP, as well as this thread. -
Quote:That's true. I didn't originally say that by the way. Just quoted it.There's always going to be some subset of a playerbase which is going to consider a certain bit of MMO content to be trivial and another subset which considers that same content to be impossible. But when it comes to overall game balance for the majority the experiences of those fringe groups really don't matter. *shrugs*
Ultimately if it can be said that the use of Warburg nukes in the CoP did not equal automatic success and the LACK of Warburg nukes in the CoP does not equal automatic failure then why did the Devs ban the nukes from the trial in the first place? That should be the real question we should be asking here.
One of my issues with the CoP is that it feels like its endgame content but doesn't reward like it.
For me endgame content needs to give something that permanently improves my character. Less Merits than a KHTF and a temp power than vanishes in 7 days isn't it.
Which is why I'm looking forward to issue 19. I'm betting (hoping) that some Incarnate rewards will be tacked on to the CoP when it arrives.
Also hoping that issue 19 brings multi team tools into the COH/V/GR interface/UI. -
Sorry if I'm not sensitive to some of the complaints. After completing CoP a handful of times only a day or two after GR launched, it just seemed very doable. Set a time for capable players with appropriate powersets and skills to show up to give yourselves the best chance to succeed. If you can't throw all that together, you deserve to fail. Like my Pirates in MLB for the past 18 seasons.
--------------
You perfectly explained why it's not worth my time.
Won't even bother mentioning the 10 merits.
If you love it have at it. -
Quote:After the party pack no not really. Folks just expect it now.Anyone else find it odd that we have now been trained to think anything like this must be for a paid booster extra and not a part of Issue 19?
I'm betting booster pack and will be VERY SHOCKED if it's part of an event. -
Quote:I'm fine with them if they are worth the reward and time/effort investment. Is it such a bad thing to have a challenging trial? So many "speed" TF's are abused and many (most?) missions are commonly "ghosted" these days.
I like that there's a trial with some time-sensitive tasks and a big challenge to overcome so it's not taken for granted like so many other trial/TF runs. Maybe the devs agree?
The CoP isn't.
Clarification: Unlike other tasks, If you fail the trail you can't even say you got xp or inf from it. -
Quote:If it's taking 14 minutes. . . yeah that reward isn't increasing anytime soon. Then you obviously missed this thread. I was on a half PuG blue side CoP last night with the Storm AV, and we rocked it in less than 14 minutes with absolutely no use of temporary powers.
Which is a shame. -
Quote:I did see PvP outside of the zones! Blasters would go to Recluse's Victory, and get someone to apply a confuse to them. Then they would go back to Atlas Park and Nova under the statue or by Ms. Liberty.
If it's flagged versus flagged, it sounds like a system employed in the MMO I left for this one. I think PvP zones are fine, even if the system itself needs tweaking.
psssssst, just to let you know, those folks who did that got BANNED.
EDIT: And confuse was then tweaked to wear off when you leave a pvp zone. -
The ONLY one I would get behind is Flagged vs flagged. That's all.
-
Quote:Sounds like the most reasonable explanation so farAnother thing to bring up is if it was the nukes were banned for making things go quicker, why not ban em on EVERY trial/tf/sf?
IMO the nuke's code was incompatible with CoP's code and as such a bug occurred and thus both systems were to blame.
. . . Ofcourse if that were the case one would hope that someone would say so and save all the rage that occurred in his thread.
Saying that would have been reasonable and is not really telling anyone of an exploit. -
Quote:I thought this was an ask a dev a question thread. It would be if I had no choice of what and how to play, but Surprise! I do... so i'll stick to what makes me happy.
Anyhow, wasn't this a suggestion thread and not a Question poster above you's motivation thread ??
Since when was this a suggestion thread? I thought we had another forum for that.
