  1. Actually you just don't see them kill people. I'll admit it's never really stated in mission briefings or otherwise either, but the whole idea of an evil psychopathic gang only being evil and psychopathic if they keep people alive long enough for a hero to witness the execution seems a bit much to me.

These are people that replace their hands with 3 foot MEATHOOKS. Just because they don't kill people in cutscene doesn't mean they haven't either a while ago or in the last 30 seconds. Then there's the number of bomb plots they seem to have, I doubt they evacuated the civilians from the buildings, those people are either dead already or would be if the bombs go off.

Seriously, the only thing missing from the Freak missions are "random corpse" scenery options. Though that could be said of pretty much any villain group really.

As for the other Freaks in less villainous roles? These people are clynically insane, that makes for a very poor sense of conformity.

Besides, there are two things I always come back to when it comes to Freaks being villains. Firstly, they are no more goofy than most groups in CoX, each of which has at least one occasion that indicates that they're pretty much amoral. Secondly, when an eight foot tank is charging at you with the intention of ripping your arms off you're not going to be worrying whether or not he's taken handwriting lessons.

    Agreed, oh so very agreed.

While it would spark a lot of "DOOM!" threads it would probably help with bringing the in-game experience closer to what it was even when CoV launched, and may even help revitalise the in-game community to actually reach outside its own little circle of friends (speaking from an EU perspective of community of course.)

The main problem of the consolidation idea being that I would not like to give up my character names, and you KNOW a 2 day old US character would get access to a name over a character I made years back.

Those I feel worst for are the EU players that don't speak english. They don't even have a second underpopulated server. Just one per language.
  3. I love the idea of end-game content. I mean, I really would love having enough new content to keep me interested at max levels. But for people like me that like story and such? It will never really happen.

Unfortunately the only game people seem to think has end-game is WoW. The endgame content consisting of either the military grade organisation of Dungeon runs, orchestrated by archaically minded players who I have heard dictate precise builds required for each class in the raid. (If I wanted to get yelled at by a rude, arrogant, self obsessed person purported to be my superior I would have joined the army)

And the other option? PvP, which is so polarising I'll leave it alone.
  4. We had transfers?

    AWESOME!

I could transfer a character from a relatively barren English EU server.....to the OTHER relatively barren English EU server.

    Yeah.

    I largely ignored this.

The Destroyer bosses one-shot any of the first tier MM minions with footstomp...yeah that needs to be toned down a tad. Over all the Destroyer bosses are a massive pain, they're incredibly hard to mez, have high damage both single target and AoE. Compared to other bosses of the same level range they completely outclass them.

And yes agreed, there needs to be difficulty slider NPCs in Praetoria. What may be fine and soloable for a brute is not going to be so good for say a Controller.
Pretty much exactly my opinion (sorry for wasting screenspace, I should have put this in my previous post).

I originally started GR with an eye to trying numerous different classes, unfortunately at this point having played one of the easiest classes to solo with I look at numerous missions I've played and failed to see how they would be fun with other archetypes.

Though with that in mind I'm pretty much willing to admit I'm poor at this game, so feel free to prove me wrong.
  6. Playing a Kinetic melee/Energy armour brute and so far there have only been a couple of missions that really annoyed me.

The only time I got into a fullblown NERDRAGE!!! was on a mission with seers where two groups of 3 minions were aggro-linked. I died, in total, 7 times taking the groups down and, on at least 2 occasions, spent the entire fight knocked down.

Other than that and one annoying infinite ambush mission that meant that for the entire mission I couldn't heal or recover endurance without insps I'm enjoying the new challenge.
  7. Welcome back into the fold my brother. As you can see the devs were kind.

    We have pet Americans now!
  8. I've just been reading a topic which had a couple of responses that sparked my interest (The A/TA corruptor thread in this forum to be precise) and I just thought I'd post a question.

How far into the technical aspects of the game do you like to delve?

Are you one of those that researches everything, weighs up the numbers and produces the most "efficient" build? Do you look into guides, find one you like and follow it? Do you take the advice of random PuG members seriously? Or, like me, do you take it as the levels come and take the powers you look at and think "oooh shiny!"?

Also I'd like to know WHY you think that way. An obsession with numbers? Efficiency? Fun?

Basically, what makes you, and your characters, tick?

And to show good will I'll go first.
As you probably noticed from the previous text I follow, as I call it, the "shiny" route of playing. I take the powers I think sound fun, with very little regard for their actual capability. I pay little to no real attention to the numbers (though naturally playing an online game where people feel the need to vent their spleens because you don't slot like them gives you a little knowledge of the maths). Now this isn't to say I have no set patterns.

Without fail by 20 I'll have the endurance skill from fitness and a travel power. But other than that it's all fun and games to me.

As to the why? Because I'm horrible at long term planning. I could have all of my powers planned out, written down and slotted on paper. Then I level, spot the presence pool and think "I want my character to be SCARY" and find my planning blown to hell.

But then, that's what I find fun about the game. What about you?

    --Edit the first--
Please note this discussion also applies to choice of power pools. Do you power game? Are you a thematic type? Whatever your choices spread the word!
    And remember, be polite.
  9. I'll admit. I haven't read most of this thread. However, when it's basically become "My word vs yours" I don't really care to.

When push comes to shove there will always be, in addition to normal players, farmers. Maybe a lot of them play normal missions, maybe a lot don't. When it comes down to it there are always going to be people that play to maximise rewards, no matter how pathetic the difference between them and normal players, just so they can say "I'm better than you".

However not all of the players that seem to be that way actually ARE.

As far as I can tell a lot of the argument is "You're playing a way I don't like".

The only answer I can give for this is play with people that suit you, whether or not they've farmed.

Hell, If I was to be straight on the matter and peoples thoughts that farmers are bad players. I've never farmed, been in the game over three years and am one of the worst players I know,

    Live long, play hard.
  10. "Too many targets. Too many options."

"Good guys?" He responded distractedly to Molly "Can't speak for anyone else but I'm just here to protect my people."

"Damnit, got back through. But what could I have done?"

While most of his thoughts were on the other side of the portal he had spared too little time to watch the refugee PPD on the union side. Unfortunately something felt wrong.

"PPD, meant to arrest villains. If the refugee...."

He halted his train of thought, dimly remembering mention of pliers. Rummaging inside one of his many coat pockets he threw a pair in the rough direction of Hyperstream.

"If the refugee is a villain they would have mentioned, not just left. This is wrong."

Following the Conductor as best he could Ashen attempted to judge where he would turn up next, sending a brief concentrated stream of fire through the portal where his legs would hopefully appear before turning his attention to the men returning through the portal.

"Hate snap judgements. Hope that other Meta can keep 'em busy."
  11. Noting Britanic seemed to have everything under control Ashen nodded once at Hyperstream before turning his attention solely back to the portal.

"Apologies miss, didn't mean to cause offence, just naturally wary is all."

Frowning to himself inside his mask Ashen backed further from the portal, settled on one knee and readied his rifle. Then he just sat there, weapon ready, still as a statue.

  13. "ON THE GOUND! HANDS BEHIND YOUR HEAD!"

After the gunfire ceased Ashen turned his attention to the next problem. He had no idea who, or what, had come through the portal and was currently attempting to watch her and the rip in space simultaniously, though his gun was pointed firmly at Hyperstream.

"No sudden movements, I don't want to have to shoot you. Comply and I won't have to."

For the briefest second he risks a glance at Britanic, snapping a quick salute. Quite an achievement while holding a rifle.

"Sorry sir, name's Ashen. Spotted the hostiles uniforms as they were retreating, PPD. Still as a recommendation we should avoid contact if we can. They might not be like our PPD."

    Why hellooooo there!

Do stop by for some tea won't you?

Hmm, forgot, you American types aren't overly fond of tea are you?
Sure we have some coffee here somewhere.....

No matter take some cookies instead.
  15. ((Sorry bout the overlong description I gave him but this is the first attempt at board RP and I haven't posted his description anywhere yet. Also if anyone missed it, he's Union based. Also, I kinda took it for granted most unionites have heard of Britanic and kinda know/think he's tough.))

Tramping around in the sewers was not Ashens idea of a good day out, doing so to look for explosives also wasn't a particularly good idea. The fact said explosives could potentially destroy the universe only mitigated his annoyance slightly as he dodged around what filth and detritus he could.

Pausing for a second he assessed his surroundings before turning his attention to his clothes. In retrospect a pair of suit trousers and a crisp white shirt were probably not the best clothes to have taken, both were stained now with various liquids none of which he wanted to ponder on their origins. His tie seemed to have survived the worst of it though, little compensation though that was. At least he didn't have to worry about his boots or gloves, metal was easy to wash, and his white mask was pretty much immune to stains.

"Good thing too I like this mask, be a shame to have to replace it. Kinda fond of that red X across my eyes and it's a pain to replicate shapes on the material"

But by far the worst, in his mind, was his trenchcoat.

"Black's great for hiding the stains, but I don't want to think what it'll smell like after this and bullet proof coats cost a fortune...."

His train of thought was interrupted by a rather loud, and rather odd noise for the sewers, massed gunfire. Not pausing to wonder who would be in the sewers in a group large enough to make that much noise he broke into a sprint, readying his gun on the way, an assault weapon that looked like it had been scavenged from parts found on the street.

Arriving at his destination he burst into a small area to what sounded like anarchy, but looked very much just like a larger than life hero standing in front of a....

"Sweet %&!* the crazy old man did it!"

Slowing only for a second he attempted to assess the situation, several thoughts flashing through his mind as he rolled to the ground besides Britanic.

"Gunfire's coming through the portal. Britanic's tough, he can probably take the punishment. Shoot to wound, not kill, wounds explained easier on first contact than deaths."

Coming up low to steady his aim and slightly behind Britanic for some cover he glared through the portal, only to see a rather rapidly moving flying object obscuring his shots.

"Meta. Primary target. Britanic's better suited to taking it out. Take out secondaries, clear the field. Then secure perimeter and call backup."

It only took him a split second to run through his train of thought as he lowered the gun slightly to fire underneath Hyperstream and started firing at the only parts of his enemies he could reliably see, the legs.

... Wait, wouldn't life be better like that? That's what equality means to me.

Also, universal acceptance isn't a good thing. Because we'll never be able to accept everything about everyone. Universal tolerance on the other hand, is a bit more attainable. "You are X, and while I don't quite understand that/like that/feel comfortable with that, you are entitled to that without persecution (as long as no harm, either mental, physical or emotional is caused, or is done without informed consent.)"

    Just saying.

Unfortunately intelligent outlooks are somewhat less important to most than overblown personal statements. Universal acceptance WOULD be a good thing if some things weren't inherently destructive. However I'm not going to go any further down that corridor as this topic is more about a general lifestyle choice that doesn't have anything to do with self, or other destructive behaviour. (Also I apologise, but I can't quite remember an adequate replacement for other-destructive. A poor match it may be and I am deeply sorry for such.)

  18. Do I remember when hitting 50 was an accomplishment? Yup, easily. I've played for three years and have one, (count em, ONE) fifty. So,for me at least, it still is an achievement.

I know nobody has yet really started flaming or beating on each others beliefs (quite an achievement given the subject matter) but I'm thinking it might be time to take a break, step back and generally agree to disagree on some points.

I doubt anyone here would reduce the topic to flame-bait. You all seem like nice, intelligent people (and I KNOW Floating fat man and Myopic Aardvark are) but these types of things always seem to draw in the intolerant.

I vote we all agree that segregation is bad, acceptance is good and people in superhero games deserve their privacy respected sexuality wise.
  24. Hello. My name is Ashen and I have a confession.

I've been playing for three years. I have a fifty (yes just one).

I STILL suck at this game.

    That is all.
  25. Ashen_EU

    g-a-y supergroup

Looking for groups you can be sure won't discriminate against you is fine. But, in general, I think it's a better idea to try to work alongside people of all different outlooks. Yes you're going to get burned, everyone does. Yes you may be more likely to, I won't debate that point.

But if you do find a group of people willing to accept you (and I think this game has MANY open minded people, in fact a higher percentage willing to accept all types than most games) then you'll not only be just as happy, but spread the message of acceptance AND find people willing to stand by you that would have left you alone before hand.

I have nothing against groups dependent on sexuality. Just as I have nothing against groups dependent on sex or musical taste. I just think it unfortunate we need to resort to such cosmetic differentials.

That said, good luck on your search, in the game and in life in general.
