  2. Just out of curiosity.

My very first character, Maiden Canada, was created as a Supergirl-type character and I envisioned her as being 15-ish. Several years have passed in-game now, but I still consider her to be in her mid-teens, as making her 22-23 just doesn't fit my view of the character. I've tried not to include any mention of specific years or events in her bio to allow me to keep her perpetually young, but as the game's story progresses, it's a bit harder.

Anyone else consider their characters age, or do you not bother?
  3. Ok, that's now on my must-see list, lol. They somehow managed to film my recurring fantasy.
  4. Those are awesome. Reminds me of my visit to the Philippines. Things like that were all over the place.

  6. I do think it would be kind of cool to try and might be satisfying for the right character, but being able to continue playing the game with other characters as if nothing happened would kind of dilute even that.

Ok, I don't mean this in a sarcastic/ condescending way or anything...

We now have tech in place that lets each character see the world "their way", in that you may or may not kill/ rescue a certain character, who would then appear or disappear based on your decision. They could potentially use that to a degree.

Running with what you said abouve, though, how would you feel about this: you face off against Wade, not for TGG, but for your own reasons, knowing that this could "Destroy the World!" You beat him down, even torture and kill him As a consequence, the "world ends". The screen goes black and your character's version of the game world comes to an end. Your character is auto-deleted, because he is now dead.

I personally don't think that would be terribly satisfying (beyond a one-time "oh, sh**, they let me do it!"), but it almost sounds like that would be ok with you. If that is not good, then what do you think would work? I am honestly just curious.

Ok, Egos_Shadow had the same thought before me, but I will leave this here, anyway, because I am still curious. I think this might be a viable option for some players/ characters.
  8. If Michelle Rodriguez and Sean Bean did a movie together....

    who would die first?
  9. Nice. They got me at the beginning with the ad...

I don't know if I am the only one who was disappointed that they de-powered Alice in the last one, but I hope she starts to get her abilities back.
  10. That touched me much more than the actual episode... Very well done.

    Lol, well, obviously.

I am giving that as an example of events in-game that the top-tier heroes would possibly be involved it. I am merely asking how we might become-- if we choose to-- a hero at the level of Statesman and have it reflected in the game.

I'm starting to wonder if you are intentionally missing my point.

For the record, I do not want to roleplay a press conference, or kiss babies. Press conferences are boring and as for the babies... Bill can have them.

That's been a feature of the game for YEARS. Just saying we ALREADY ARE the main characters in the eyes of NPCs.

True, yeah, but I suspect that after yelling "Character X just beat Nemesis!" (or whatever), they probably discuss it with their friends and say "Wow, some day he might be as great as Statesman!" Lol

And I have yet to be called in for a press conference and given a medal while crowds chant my name and take pics of me kissing their babies.

I guess I am not explaining my thoughts too well.... I agree with what you're saying. I am talking about something a bit different.

Whatever you or I might think of Statesman as a character, he was intended to be the lead hero of Paragon, if not all of Primal Earth. Did he succeed? Up to each of us to decide individually. Do we need to emulate him and do exactly as he does? Again, up to the individual.

Do heroes kill? Some say yes, some say no. I'm not looking for that kind of discussion.

What I am asking, is if the idea behind killing off the main hero of the game lore is to allow us to shine, how do we do that? I am not talking about my character imposing his views of morality, and right/ wrong on you, or being the lead character when we play together. When you play you are the star of the show. When I play my scrapper, he is the ultimate, be-all, end-all hero of the game for me and, in my head at least, he is a great, revered hero to the people of Paragon. When I log him out and play my tanker, then my tanker is the be-all, end-all hero of the game. I am not talking about affecting anyone else's play, or anything like that.

Froma game lore perspective and a game mechanics point of view, how can my/your/ his/ her character become that main character in the eyes of the NPCs? We have saved the world many times, yes, but for me, being the top hero of the game is more than just punching/ blasting/ holding thing things. I am just wondering how this might be achieved.

    Cutscenes

    I like cutscenes.

Although, I would like the option to skip the long ones when I have seen them 20 times.

People, in general, like to have a single figure to focus on. Similar to what I said above, if Darkseid was coming at me, I'd rather have Superman than Batman standing in front of me. On the Marvel side, Captain America was pretty much their lead good guy for a long time.

I am not saying that we as player need someone to emulate. My characters forge their own paths. But often in literature, film, or whatever, there tends to be a character that stands our as a moral centre of the story. Now, of course, we should be able to be that person, but would the game be able to allow it? For an NPC, no problem. Just write everything that way. But to have the game respond to a character as such? Harder.

Yeah, I get what you're saying and can agree, but I am just wondering about the in-game effect. Your own character is the #1 guy when you play, which is fine. when I first started playing all those years ago, my initial feeling toward Statesman was irritation that I would never be able to reach his (or any other signature character's) level. I have no problem with taking the lead, or anything. I just wonder if the people of Paragon will even notice, or if we'll have the option (for those who want it) to really fill his shoes (boots?) in a more substantial way than fighting, or roleplaying in our heads.

That's pretty much what I understood, yeah. But consider things for a moment from the PoV of a civilian in the game, or another comic universe. I have said to friends a couple of times that while Superman isn't my favourite character, if I was in trouble-- real, end-of-the-world trouble-- I would be much more relieved to see Superman than, say Green Arrow.

If the point of this is to let the players take the lead, how exactly do we do that? Have us punch bigger things? I would expect more.

Well, if it's one of those won't-stop-crying ones sitting behind you on a plane, then maybe...

Anyhow, I am asking this from an in-game perspective and a game-mechanics one as well. The whole "should they kill him?" debate has been done a dozen times and better than I would do here, but if the reason for it was to make our characters stand out more and be the real heroes, how will that be accomplished in-game? Just fighting things isn't enough to really be a symbol for the heroic side.
  19. So with States gone, who is a shining example of all that's good? Sure we have people who we can hope to emulate in terms of power and ability, but who is the moral centre now? Who is the heart of Paragon?

States was our Superman, the guiding force, the one that, no matter how bad things got, if you as a civilian saw him arrive on the scene, you knew you were going to be saved and everything would be ok. Now, of course, there are plenty of heroes who can save the day, but there is no one person to exemplify the ideals of the heroic side.

I understand the desire to kill him off. I do. I know that with the introduction of Incarnates, we are intended to really become the pre-eminent heroes of the CoH universe. But, frankly, the game still doesn't allow it the way it would for an NPC. No matter how many pedestrians walk by and say "Character X fought the Tsoo and saved that news reporter!", we will never have our characters go accept medals from the president, or even the mayor. We'll never hold press conferences. We'll never give speeches before dozens of the next generation of heroes. We'll never stand on a dais, sharing our wisdom to help someone level up.

No matter how you might feel about Statesman as a player, the everyday people of Paragon should sleep a little (or a lot) less comfortably now.

So given that we are supposed to become the biggest and the best of all heroes, who amoung us will stand up to be a Paragon of Virtue? And will the game really allow anyone to notice, beyond a few random pedestrian remarks?
  20. I have been here since day one and I *love* this game. I choose to play this over most of my other games when I have free time. I wish I had the time to play more. I miss my friends who have left (although some have come back), but I can enjoy myself whether I am on a PUG or solo. I am very excited for a number of things coming up.

As for the hate... I sometimes wonder if it is related to the fact that the devs generally do listen to us and try to give us what we want. Beast Mastery is the most recent example. I don't know any other game-- MMO or ortherwise-- where I have seen devs take such joy in surprising their players with fun things that they have been hoping for and been told were not possible.

We, in return, respond by asking for more and more. Suddenly the nice things that they get us are not exactly what we want and we throw temper tantrums. I sometimes feel like we're spoiled kids in a toy store.

Mother: "Here sweetie, I bought you the toy you wanted." *Smiles*
Child: "I wanted the red one! The red one!!" *Throws self on floor, kicking and screaming, eyes rolling to the back of head.*
  21. I've been anxiously awaiting this. I am iffy on the animation and the overall look of the more modern era, but I still can't wait for it

    These, please.

Also, while this may be out of place in this thread, I will ask anyway, since you will actively be reading it; can we please fix bare feet so they don't look like boots with toes painted on? I have seen a number of other people ask for this of late, so it's not just me. And with Beast Mastery coming, I have a new need for it.

    Farewell

    Well, that just sucks.

I don't recall ever having any real discussions with you, myself, but I have been seeing you post here forever. Sad to see you go, but I wish you well in all you do.
  24. Yay, another loincloth that won't be available to the players who have been begging for one.

Issue looks ok, but not overwhelming to me. The preponderance of darkity dark powers continues.

Well, yeah, those are the only real options, but my question came more from a slight irritation that there was no explanation. I'm sure one will follow and I don't mind a tease like that, but some context or explanation would be nice.
