  1. Katana and Broadsword have Parry. It is going to be hard to beat that for any primary, even if they did not also have some knock in their last two attacks.

Dark Melee might be a distant third, depending on your secondary. Siphon Life is a solid heal without diminishing damage output, and the to-hit debuffs on every attack are solid against any single target under an AV.
  2. ArchGemini

    Duo Team

For you partner: anything buff set and a decent AoE. Kinetics would be able to fix your endurance problems and run your damage to cap. Mobs will melt, drops will be plenty if not necessarily helpful, and you will both enjoy the run.
  3. Where was that gem buried, MeiLiLan? I had been trying to find it for the longest time to save for myself.
  4. My best stories are of saying, "F IT!" and trying to see what I can spawn-dive and stay up to beat.

My DM/Regen soloed my first AV (Nightstar, at that), and is my first 50. Leveled him up when all of my family was still playing instead of just my wife.

My DM/Shield is just stupid powerful and growing (I am not even finished slotting him yet, and have soloed AVs, put down Pylons in good time and gotten to the point where I kill time with RWZ challenges).

My DM/SR has become my go-to tip guy. He just blitzes through them seemingly no matter what they are, and has gotten a few Glad +3s for my Shieldies.

And, last, but not least, my Elm/Shd/Fire. Oh, ode to my walking nuke.
  5. IO set bonuses have a maximum stack of 5. They have the same named bonus. If you run tips and start accumulating Luck of the Gambler uniques, they stack separately than other +7.5s.
  6. Possible fix options that I feel would be appropriate, without stepping on anyone else's toes or overpowering the set.

Add regeneration, recovery, and heal debuff resistance. Everyone else has resistance to debuffs in their set. WP even gets it in powers that Regen had first, and Regen still does not have. How/why is this still an issue?

Remove unenhanceable portions of powers. Why not? Also, how much would Regen gain from this. Another one that is strange to me why they have let it stand even after Regen has clearly fallen down.

Return Instant Healing to a toggle. There is no reason why this power should not be able to challenge Rise to the Challenge, which also has a small To-Hit Debuff. A higher endurance cost could offset the fact it runs at max all the time.

I'll likely IO out my Claws/regen in a non-purple build and call it good. I'll play it for old times sake once in a while, but as player with altism, the grass is always greener... And it's also the one character I feel the most sentimental about even if it wasn't my first character, first 50, or even my namesake on the forum. It literally took over 10+ issues to get to 50, but I enjoyed the hell out of it for the most part.
Very true. My /Regen can run the top DM chain, which put me into perma-DP by default. One small purple pill puts him either at or close to the softcap for Melee, and into the high-30s for the other vectors. I feel like the greater accomplishment is the +def.

To be honest, if I could pick my own set of super powers, I would pick his powersets (except I would be able to Gloom). That is how strong my sentimental attachment to him is. I would love any reason at all for him to assume a new role as my dedicated number 2.

    /Regen?

Broadsword would top the list, depending on how you feel about redraw or having a similar style to your Katanas.

The -toHit in Dark Melee is solid, and on your first pass through a character, you can take Touch of Fear to get another heavy debuff or nearly lock something out completely. Siphon Life does not stack as well as it does with other Secondaries, but it can save you from burning excess Reconstructions.

Kinetic Melee, Martial Arts and Electric Melee have a lot of Knockdowns and stuns to give you time to regenerate or your heals to recharge.

In general, the more mitigation your primary provides, either through self-buffs or debuffs and soft control, the better match it is for /Regen.

My first 50 and 2nd closest character to my heart (my heart is my DM/Shield that I 50'd in a duo with my wife) is a DM/Regen. In order to still get some use of him, I run him and a DM/SR I have been building on tips. Eventually, I plan on running him on the incarnate content, but I can tell he has fallen way behind my Shieldie in almost all facets.

Just to say I did it first with him, although I was shifted, he is the first (and so far only, but only for lack of effort) character I have that has soloed an AV. Regen can still do great things, but WP is the better of the "get lots of health back quickly" sets right now.
  10. As much as I would love to say go with Regeneration, I simply cannot. Go WP.

As an aside, then, what happened to /Regen? I love the set, but I could really no longer recommend it to anyone, either. What is its biggest draw:
Quick Recovery? WP has that with a resistance to Recovery debuffs, even though it comes later, and everyone gets passive Stamina at 2 on any new roll.
Passive Healing? WP has it beat there, too, and can sustain high levels of regeneration simply by being in a crowd. Regen has to rely on Instant Healing for that, and it is not permanent (although, admittedly, not reliant on outside sources).
Burst Healing? Dark Regeneration and Healing Flames say hello.
Moment of Glory? Too short to hang the whole set on it.
In-set Rez? Regen might have the worst rez on any set that has one.
IO capabilities? Regen might fall furthest behind there unless you have a sword, and even then having a sword with other sets gives you more freedom.

And it hurt to type all that...
  11. Thanks, fellow forum runners. I feel like I got caught flat-footed because I normally at least try to look these things up myself so I do not look like a complete fool by asking something that is/was obvious to everyone else.

Shame, though, the buff was about the only thing I really wanted out of the Seers. I would have gone with the bots for -Regen instead had I known a little more. Here is hoping this is not WAI.
  12. On my Scrapper, I selected the Seers in an attempt to bolster my Defense (via Fortitude) for the incarnate content and a support against Devouring Earth. However, Seeker Fort only provides Defense to typed-damage versus every other version of Fortitude (which provide typed and positional).

Is this working as intended and I just screwed up by not looking (I only found out just now you can not only see the details/powers of the pets, but the details of the powers they use), or is this actually something worth bringing up to the attention of more important people?

Well that is what I get for never bothering to look. I cannot say I prepared or did much homework. I saw the mission, needed a tip, just said "@#$% it," flipped the switch to AV, and had a go.

Nah, just the level shift. I did not think it would be worth discussing if I had used anything else. Didn't even have Soul Drain fuel (although as a /Regen, that much fuel around that long might get lucky and drop you).

Oh, and just for the update, Nightstar outlasted me as a 51 AV, but aside from Purples and PVPs, I am probably pretty close to a wall as far as what I can eek out of him.

Clearly, /Regen needs to be buffed

But if you can take AVs, try taking them at even con now. If you're level-shifted, set for level 51 AVs, see how you do.

AV soloing is all about pushing the envelope as far as you can.
I like that. Use the Alpha Slot as more of an "enhancement filler" and keep the levels even. Let's see how that works.

... if you are level shifted when you solo your first AV?

My DM/Regen/Soul took down Nightstar just now (my first). My excitement regarding the achievement is tempered while I wait on this reply. My pride, however, is not. I always figured my first AV would go down via my DM/Shield.

    Time to try Siege...

    edit: Got him, too. Score!

On a side note, I'm wondering what Alpha slot you guys went with? I"m still teetering between Spiritual and Muscular on my Scrapper.
That is usually my issue as well. I put my workout aside to make sure I got it in on the hot day and finding a team would be pretty easy. I am not exactly enjoying the fact I have to schedule my life around the game if I want to advance before the next issue, but I am just trying to adapt the best I can.

As a soloer it doesn't make me particularly happy, but on the other hand, I've always liked grinding out my rewards over a long time frame, and it doesn't bother me (much) if someone else goes 1-50 in a day. I'm enjoying playing. And I've spent more time playing my 50s over the years than leveling anything, much of that time with no reward other than the play itself.

Hopefully they'll add a solo option for the notice of the incarnate, and it'll just take me a while. I can live with that. I'm a grinder.
I do not mind it. What I would think would be awesome-in-a-can would be roughly a 5-mish that had a guaranteed shard as a reward (plus whatever you get randomly through the arc), like the Mender arc that starts all this craziness. Even if you could only do it once a day it would feel like you were making steady progress.

This is, however, coming from a person that thinks the tip missions were one of the best things to happen the City's gear system, and someone who, yesterday being the exception, tends to be the RNG's <censored>. My wife, or even her toons seemingly, is the lucky one. Go figure she only plays about a quarter of what I do.

Got on a good team today.

Cleared most of the STF and scored a stupid amount of shards (12!), the Notice, and the Uncommon as the TF reward.

Took about an hour and a half, but I pretty much put the Rare together today. From pretty much nothing having just put the uncommon together yesterday.

Dark.Enforcer (DM/Shd/Body) is now 50 (+1). My only complaint is that, not including the Notice, it would have taken me quite some time to put together that many shards running tips solo. Is it really supposed to be that much easier running a team on a TF?
  21. ArchGemini

    Fulcrum Shift

It can and does miss. You want at least enough accuracy to cap you against what you normally fight. I usually slot two Accuracy IOs and three Recharges (two if I REALLY need to get a slot somewhere, and then only if I have good global recharge).
  22. All for Dark Manipulation. Dark Blast, too, but definitely Manipulation. I believe they have most of the powers available for it. What all is still missing? A single target immobilize, I know. Not sure what else, though.

I've done speed runs, I've done shard runs, I've done in-between.

Just plain playing TFs with folks that want to, and having a blast punching stuff in the face.

Issue 19 has seriously put some spring in my step when playing this game and it's brought a lot more interest for doing TFs on my server Pinnacle, the only one I play on. I'm hoping for wild success on I20 once again.
OMGWTFBBQ You play on Pinnacle? @Arch.Gemini. I need to get in with your people, obviously. I am sure you will find me a very competent and fun teammate.

Ok, screw pride. I have to ask. What in the world are you fighting or am I just doing something wrong? You have more common components than I have had shards drop across running three 50s daily.
  25. The last time I was on a team big enough to have issues boosting everyone, I just asked that they all came back to me to be rebuffed, because I was always going to hang out with the designated point, and that I would always cast those buffs after the spawn was down (unless an ID was needed to beak a hold).
If you wanted to go out own your own, you were ON YOUR OWN.

I do not remember the last time I have had all the problems with other players you all are talking about. Kinetics is an incredibly busy set, though. And with the defeat speed increases caused in part by the buffs, it makes it seem all the more frantic.
