Quote:Okay. Coming to the thread late, but this got a belly laugh from me.
You can tell someone that, somewhere, a game is going Free To Play. And it's all right. It's all "part of the plan."
But then you tell them that City of Heroes is going Free To Play. And suddenly everyone loses their mind!
I'll see your incredulity and raise. How many people who are now insisting this is a wonderful thing, and smiling and talking about buying up the paragon store repeatedly said free to play would mean the death of the game, there was no reason for CoX to free to play etc etc etc. -
Quote:At first, I was concerned that people might use multiple free accounts to corner markets, and flip prices up to ludicrous amounts, but if limitations like what I suggested are in place, that's not a likely scenario.
Prices in the AH is already ridiculous, i only sell there never buy there. many more options to get what you want and much easier than paying high prices rather than spending my hard earned inf to get for all my 50's.
( p.s. I am in no way shape or form not suggesting no one not to pay those prices of course since i do sell for those prices :P ). ( Some one has to pay for all the cool shinies i have hehehe being ebil is sooooo much fun. )
You only sell but never buy, and the people on the other end of your transactions are getting a bad deal ? -
Quote:No what I am suggesting, is regular merits are free, alignment merits need a purchase, and astral/empyrean merits require more. The current Itrial drops are free, something better may be purchaseable. You are suggesting that Paragon Studios will intentionally introduce bugs, or intentionally leave bugs unfixed, just so they can charge for the fix. Normal ITF is free, but Special Premium ITF With No Lag In Lag Valley costs $5, or such. $10 to upgrade your Henchmen to cycle their attacks smoothly instead of getting hung up on their one melee attack! $5 for an Oil Slick Arrow that always lights!
It's hard to tell what's crazier. Believing something so completely insane, or not realizing that it's completely insane.
If there is a needed fix, that can be morphed into something that can be purchased it will get done in a timely fashion. If it can't it will be fixed soon.
Edit: Just to take your example. No the old ITF just never gets fixed, instead you get a new Cimerora content expansion pack, has a new repeatable contact, a couple of roman themed costume pieces, and a task force that is much like the ITF, but doesn't have the lag can be done faster and rewards better, threads or a component and some astrals ? -
Quote:Well apparently Arcanaville thinks it crazy that money spent by a company would have to be justified against expected profits.Ok, I have no idea what just happened, but seriously, that was hysterical.
Give him/her a little bit and I am sure there will be a convincing argument why paragon studios won't act in a manner to maximize their profit. -
Quote:And normally you are so much more verbose and layered in your deflections.I didn't realize this was the crazy train express. Please, take my seat: this would be my stop.
I can see your position its not like much demanded and needed features haven't been part of a sale in the past. I mean there isn't an example or examples of them saying oh its ok for you get stuff faster if you pay us, but otherwise that rate of earning is an exploit is there ? -
Quote:I'm not searching for anything not being presented upfront. I'm concerned they're going to drive people away with this model (though I can think of a couple I wouldn't mind...)
I'm concerned this will be the death of free content, and that we'll quietly be being charged ever so slightly more for everything, and WILL be charged for EVERYTHING that isn't a mission from now on.
A profit center for everything and for everything a marketing plan.
Nahhh could never happen. I mean you start thinking like that next thing you will ask are what problems were left/put in the game just so we could be sold the fixes. -
Quote:Irony is really lost on some peopleThere is no KB problem, just pedantic players that think they know best how to maximize rewards-per-minute and who are to lazy to hit a couple keys to actually move during combat now and then.
If you hate KB then it is YOUR problem, not the one doing the KB since it is an intrinsic part of the game.
KB rocks. -
The spin is strong in this one
Has had and longer if you count beta.
Quote:one that I've never noticed myself anywhere but on the forum, but players have had up to seven years to learn to cope with the torturous adversity that is inflicted upon them when an energy blaster (or defender, or corruptor, or dominator) joins their team.
Quote:If one guy using kb recklessly is all it takes to ruin your fun, what is it that you do exactly? What are you bringing to the team that you are so easily rendered ineffective? How pro of a player are you that your bag of tricks consists in its entirety of "herd and aoe?"
Quote:There are two situations where it makes sense to shoot for a specific team composition. One is when you're working toward an unusual goal, such as a master of task force or an all-FF superteam. The other is if the composition you're after is "a team full of my friends" in which case you presumably will discuss which characters to bring amongst yourselves. In any other situation, there is no reason not to fill the team first come first served. If you're leading a team in the first place you ought to be anywhere from prepared to eager to make up for any given minor inefficiency yourself.
Seems there might be more than 2 -

Doesn't look bad for the cosmetic items, it would have been nice to see what ninja run, secondary mutation or steam jump items were going for.
Edit it would also be interesting to see if those are going account wide or per character -
Is that I20.5 ?

Quote:/this. At least the 1-star. So when you run the TF and finish, and he's still looking for his "perfect" blaster an hour later, you know to wave as you go by and ask if he had as much fun on his TF as you did on yours.
LOL wishful thinking at its best.
Edit: and too be clear, he should make his case to the tl that he is aware of energy's effects and knows how to play the set in a team friendly fashion
Edited the edit to put back what I left out -

Quote:Why do I get the impression that I better take screenshots of all the server lists, and get ready for a long chat with tech support when this goes live. Its not like I haven't had personal experience of the old system going badIf you are paying your subscription come City of Heroes Freedom, this is how many characters you'll have access to:
- VIP ACCOUNT: 12 characters PER SERVER total (these are not moveable/transferrable. They are always unlocked on every server, just like today)
- OWN GOING ROGUE BEFORE FREEDOM LAUNCH: Gain 2 more character slots
- PER YEAR OF PAST SUBSCRIPTION: Add 1 character per year
- PER PURCHASED CHARACTER SLOT (beyond standard 12 per server): Add 1 character per slot purchased
- Other bonuses possible (+2 for being an i12 subscriber, etc.)

Quote:I was rejected by two TFs today simply due to that fact that my primary is energy. I believe one leader was only wanting Fire or Ice maybe psy as well. I'm unsure if I'm naive of this situation but besides the added knockback with energy I've never had an issue with this in the past. Is there some ungodly difference that makes waiting 30 mins and praying for your idea of the optimal Blaster worth it. I'm clear that certain sets perform higher on the dmg scale but I't was my knowledge that they were all still high dmg dealing sets.
Slight rant. Maybe disscussion?
The number of people that use energy well compared to the number of people that use it poorly is small in my experience. When used poorly the KB effects are a pain for the team. The leader has to ask themselves do they want to risk being chained to that for half half an hour to an hour. -

Why should they exclude a portion of the playerbase ? A podcast without a transcript might be rough on the hearing impaired. Ustream at least in theory everyone can get to

Quote:I am sorry but everyone that can get to facebook can get to the forums, not everyone that can get to the forums can or wants to go through the hoops to get to facebook. While I do not use Facebook, I am gonna go out on a limb and guess that a lot of people do. Since they have their own forums, should they never go to conventions? Should they never use TV? Should they avoid talking to game sites like Massively?
I want them to use as many resources to communicate as they can reasonably afford, even if they use some I do not personally look at.
If they are worried about letting non players post, they can take questions via email. -
Why would they let you load up their servers to generate items for free, when they can cut you out and make a real profit selling them to your customers.
-
You have your own forums, and many people want nothing to do with facebook

AS long as this
"Of course, if you are a VIP, you will get twelve free slots on every server, instead of two slots total. Plus you will get one free Global Character Slot Token per twelve months of subscription time, any slots you have purchased, and if you have purchased Going Rogue prior to the launch of City of Heroes Freedom, you will also get the two free slots that came with Going Rogue. (After the launch of Freedom, Going Rogue will no longer come with these two free slots.)"
means no change if I keep subbed, fine by me. -
