I am pretty sure a decent player could achieve the same accomplishment with most blaster combos and with a good number of them do so considerably faster. All that is required is a willingness to play at very safe settings, and live with a comparatively glacial rate of advancement.

Quote:They seem to have no trouble ticking off the players with nerfs witness the Hami changes, the BotZ changes which tick off the majority of people using them and force people to resort to the at best painful respec process. When it comes to buffing powersets or ATs that have problems, they seem infinitely worried that the tiniest of possibly even imaginary minorities might be upset about the change. In the past, pissing off the players hasn't really stopped them from making changes, there's too many variables for me to be specific.
In this particular case I'd vote to change it, or at least get a decent poll and see if the majority would tolerate a change.
I really don't see what it could hurt.
Devices is the poster child for making changes that actually move things fully toward where performance should be so that there is an equality of performance. What happens ? Not enough people use it for it to be priority , why don't people use it ? its bad, why is it bad because it was never looked at after the overpowered smoke grenade was fixed.

Quote:Statesman's cold dead hand still on tiller for blaster's ? Its not a difficult prediction that people would want an AT they played to not get shortchanged. All the prediction indicates was that people were aware that Castle was not doing enough in buffing blasters and the AT would still be at the bottom of the performance envelope. This is exactly what people predicted would happen when they changed Blasters allowing them to use tier 1 and 2 attacks while mezzed. People would want full fledged mezz protection for Blasters as well as more defense/resistance. I don't think the devs want anything near this kind of deal for Blasters.
The same thing is happening with stalkers now. They should be doing a solid 10% to 15% more damage than scrappers just on the basis of their lower HP and nearly identical armor performance in an IO build. -

Quote:Pretty certain that the only build that would benefit more from +HP over recharge are PVP builds from the mechanics of heal decay, and builds with a +HP power, no self heal and where Aid self is either too costly to take, or is not sufficiently usable to be desirable.I would rather blasters follow the "squishy" standard.
I also agree that being able to focus on other things like recharge, accuracy, etc. in slotting with minimal hp slotting is a nice benefit for blasters.
Just look at dark regen
at 100% recharge
Its base heal is equivalent to roughly 2% regen/sec
at 200% recharge it goes up to nearly 3% regen
So hasten + 30% global recharge increases the the incoming damage you can take without losing HP by 50%
The biggest HP% set bonus you can get in the game is 3%
Aid Self is a little trickier because it has an interrupt and an insanely long cast time.
But at its base it offers the equivalent of roughly .8% regen/sec (while eating 25% of you available offense potential)
at 100% recharge it gives you roughly 1.3% regen/sec (while eating 1/3 of your offensive potential)
at 200% its at nearly 2% regen sec but you spend half your time firing off aid self.
That is just enhancing the powers for recharge, dark regen doesn't need the heal enhancement, if it hits 4 foes its a 100% heal every cycle. -
Ehhh ? Crabs aren't the only veats and all of them have pretty good ranged options
Crabs aren't slouches by any measure.
Single shot:80 feet
Burst:80 feet
Venom grenade:80 feet
Frag grenade: 80 feet
Mu lightning/Spirit Shark/Gloom/Mace Blast: 80 feet.
But just back on topic, if you want to deliver damage at long range Archery is the blast set that does it.
On a spawn of 16, Archery can deliver around 16,000 pts of damage in under 2 seconds from the spawn being notified.
Or to put it another way, Rain of arrows + Explosive arrow will do 1,000 points to everything in the spawn withing 2 seconds of the spawn first knowing they can shoot back.
Single target damage in general and single target damage at range is pretty irrelevant unless you are fighting 1 enemy. -
Quote:If you want the benefit of extreme range, and want to take advantage of what was considered a cheat (being able to kill mobs while they can't kill you)Because the Devs do. What causes me to believe the Devs think extreme range is a cheat? I looked at how they designed the game as a whole and the Blaster class specifically. The key was in realizing that from the ground up the Blaster class is designed to hit peak performance as a Blapper. This is especially significant when everything in the sales brochure talks about how ranged they are. Therefore I trudge onward in my tilting at windmills. Wish me luck.
Try Archery/Mental Manipulation or Archery/ Energy Manipuation.
Archery can literally kill x 8 spawns at range. Archery/Energy can do it at sniper range.
Ar is second in its ability to do this but its not a close second. AR notifies the enemies when you pull the trigger on full auto, Archery notifies when the pseudo pet spawns.
If you are willing to put aside your issues with weapons, consider a Villain Epic AT. -
Just why do you think range is going to be more important than everything else ?
Quote:Forget AoE. Forget survivability. Forget everything. (I may even give up on my anti-weapon rule) Forget it all. Except. RANGE. -
I think you mean stop buying important items and sell everything now.
Remember it isn't the fall its that sudden stop at the bottom. -
Unless you have a really good team, it's defense all the way even with a good team you still probably want defense. If you aren't alive your offence is wasted.
What kind really depends on how you play, but looking at the blaster ATIO set they are strongly encouraging you to play at range and build for ranged def. -
Quote:Blasters aren't offensive juggernauts, with the buffs coming to stalkers it looks like blasters are somewhere around 4th in single target damage. They may not even be tops in pure ranged single target if you can believe the pylon results thread where you have a soldier doing 270 dps on a pylon with just ranged attacks.Blasters get defeated the most? THAT is your argument for giving them a bigger hp cap? The old 'offensive juggernaught, no defences' AT? Oh wait..could it be that they pump out larger amounts of damage, often aoe, and by default..have no way to avoid, resist, or heal from damage? No, no..that wouldn't do it at all! Or perhaps that a good portion of blasters PLAY like nutters? (how else would you play them?)
It's a fine concept to trade survivability for damage, but if you give away one you should get the other. -
They were supposed to be looking at blaster nukes awhile back, I wonder whatever became of that ?

Quote:I guess you have every badge then.
Or maybe 1300 of them.
Cause its not so easy for most of us to have 1300 badges....
"That which we obtain too easily, we esteem too lightly"
---Thomas Paine
Aside from a few posters who have been equating impossible with not obtainable by them numerically the percentage of badges anyone can actually obtain has been increasing.
Matter of fact the percentage of badges that you could call difficult is miniscule now < 1%.
I still thank you for starting a truly amusing thread. I mean where else could I get to see people complain about a "Disturbing trend in new badges" because they are difficult to get, for a very few extremely hard core badgers, and another poster complain that those badges killed badging for him, when every issue there are badges introduced that can't be gotten at all once their time passes.
Even bug hunter is available for those that want it badly enough. Of course if that's your bag I would recommend one of the publicly open bug bounty programs that will pay you cash for finding or fixing bugs. -
Quote:Not so much, after all can you say how many have been handed out, and of those how many haven't been fixed ?The irony of Bug Hunter from the Devs' point of view is that the more of these they hand out the more they tacitly acknowledge how buggy their game really is.
Quote:The concept behind Bug Hunter (as a reward to players for reporting serious, exploit-level bugs to the Devs) should have never been expressed as a public character-based badge in the first place. That implementation was fundamentally flawed for many different and terribly obvious reasons. The Devs should have figured out a better kind of reward to account for these things. An excellent example would have been a grant of a certain number of months free subscription to the game, the number of months commensurate with the severity of the bug as determined by the Devs.
Look at it like this they needed someway to motivate people to do lots of unpaid labor, that would have otherwise been very costly. They found a very exploitable labor force and gave them a badge for finding Exploits. -

Quote:Look up a few posts. Want to tell me how 2 billion is below 1.8 ?You think I am shafting people by selling them below the going rate??? I wonder what you think about people who actually do charge the going rate.
Quote:A_F is one of those people that think all market prices should be 1 inf and charging anything more is akin to worshiping satan.
Lohenien, is one of those people that likes to tell tall tales about others.
Quote:I think his actual point is that you are 'jumping ship' now right before it sinks and the prices plummet. Knowing that prices are going to drop and selling before then makes you evil to A_F. The rest of the modern world calls you smart.
Quote:I thank you sir this thread has managed, to amuse and entertain. I got to see a man grin as wide as he could, telling people he was shafting wholesale that he was doing them a favor, and I got to see the people being shafted thank him and go "What a guy". -

Quote:Expecting ?I'm lazy. It's only 2 trades or emails of 999,999,999. And this way they're both the same price even though I think Glad Armors are usually a bit more expensive. I am expecting the prices in general to go down as more people farm, or the farms get bigger. But for now, I'm offering a bargain.
Looking at the market now there are 6 Gladiator +3s listed looks like they are going for 1.8 billion, 3 traded today, and there are 4 shield walls listed when this morning there were 0 of either.
Looks like its already happened.
Now more PvP will tend to lower the price but somehow I doubt the sudden urge to sell has anything to do with that. A cynical person might think you were just looking forward to the very near future when enhancement converters http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=278665 will be dropping the value of those IOs into the toilet.

Quote:/em boggleThere are levels of hypocrisy, yes. However, my original point was not about Bug Hunter itself, but about the fact that the argument that if someone can get a badge there must be no problem with it is a bad argument. Its not even an argument so much as it is random handwaving.
Hardly handwaving when compared to the other self serving excuses for arguments presented here. I mean the badges are too difficult to get when people do so on a regular basis ?
I will give you this there are levels of hypocrisy and irony as well
But back at the O.P. here are a few numbers for you. Prior to going rogue roughly 50% of the badges where impossible to obtain on any particular character, now it is down to around 8 %.
If you want to talk about truly impossible to obtain badges, that arent clones of non praetorian badges they are down to less than 1%.
The rest of this thread has been people complaining that they don't want to do whats needed to gain a badge or badges. What is worse they completely fail to appreciate that there are people that enjoy overcoming a challenge more than revving up a counter that has been reduced to meaninglessness. -
Quote:There is no reason blasters shouldn't do decent single target ranged damage and AoE they have given up everything else you can think of to do damage.Actually, I thought turning the Blaster into a Range/Defense AT, with low hit points (think stalker), but make it so their AOE attacks are high damage, while they're ST are weaker then the other melee ATs.
Make it so the melee's are more ST boss killers, while Blasters are more the lawnmower.
Now obviously there would be some sets to switch this about like melee already has. And sadly way to far into the game for this, but maybe in CoH2!
This isn't to say give them terrible ST damage either. Just that would be the seperation between melee and blast. Boss killers and lawnmowers! Blasters would still do decent ST damage, just wouldn't be high as melee.
But like I said, to far into it for that sort of change.
The simplest way to implement would be to merge the the damage bonus from defiance into the blaster base damage. Turn the 50% bonus available from defiance into a 25% bonus to the base damage numbers.
That would put the Cannon back into the Glass Cannon -
Quote:Ask yourself this. There are badges that are completely impossible to obtain for most of the player base. There's actually been a good deal of comments both thoughtful and worth considering in this thread. There has been some complaining, sure, but I really haven't gotten the sense that this was a bawww thread in the least. My input was what led to me not taking badging as seriously as I used to and then suggestions to try and make future "Master of" badges a bit more logical instead of resorting to gimmicks each time, because people are going to get tired of those gimmicks and we'll see participation on trials like Keyes and the Underground drop and participation on badge trials plummet. I think the Incarnate trials are actually pretty good, and I'd like to see them be successful for a long time.
The badges listed in this thread are not them. As a point of fact every badge listed in this thread is obtainable, and all are not particularly difficult.
You can only wonder why they doth protest so much.
Oh I wouldnt go to far into the deconstruction. This entire thread exudes entitlement. -
Quote:If blasters had better base damage, and less bonus damage from defiance, aim and build up it would be more viable. As it stands if you want to go for a high damage build on a blaster you can get bout 60% bonus from aim and build up another 50% from defiance. You toss in your enhancements (call them 95%), adding a 25% global damage bonus is only a 10% improvement in your total damage output.Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever tried to focus on +dmg bonuses? How much can you get? Is it worth it better than recharge?
Edit: That also raises the issue that blaster should have a higher damage enhancement cap. They chew up so much of their head room just using the buffs they have sacrificed survivability for. -
You know dogma I don't think you realized just how close to the matter you are. I asked awhile back what was the important thing about badging. At the time I really just didn't get the concept. From the outside it looked like it was people going arond trying to get a bigger number than anyone else. It was the only explanation that made even remote sense. I say remote sense because its a race where somebody gets to start before everyone else and as long as they stay in the race they can't lose. I got a couple of responses saying that was exactly what was going on they just wanted to have the "BIG NUMBER". The rest including people protesting very loudly in this thread denied this like there was no tomorrow.

Quote:Man you just don't get it.Troll much?
I mean seriously, this has been an entirely uncontentious thready until you showed up.
It hasn't been a contentious thread because its been a giant pity party. The people on this thread are whining, no two ways about it whining, about 5 badges out of 1300 + because they take effort to get.
Well somethings take effort. That's why they are called Achievements, or Accomplishments. It actually means something that you got them. All I see on this thread is people complaining that they have to accomplish or achieve to get an achievement or accomplishment.
Really its the litany of people that want trophies for showing up.
