@Xiomaro
I recently returned to the game and the PvP changes sound pretty good so count me in. -
Hey guys :-)
Just wanted to say, I have really really been enjoying my Fire/Fire Scrapper! I've been stuck in a Villains rut where I only enjoy playing Villains. But this Scrapper is the first Hero I've loved, and it's quickly becoming my favourite character!
First of all, it works brilliantly thematically, it looks incredible and the damage output is pretty shocking! The only thing it lacks is some crowd control, but I can always rely on teammates for that! Or I can just kill them before they kill me!
For PVE it rocks, I'm extremely durable and my AOE and Single Target damage are both great. For PVP it's also very durable but it's hard to keep people still! But once I get at them, they seem to melt quite rapidly :-)
I only posted this as I haven't seen any posts on the English OR US boards about how great Fire/Fire scrappers are! If you haven't tried it already, go do it! :-D -
Hey guys :-)
Just thought I'd express my appreciation for CoX!
I've been playing this game on and off since I played a trial of CoV on the US servers a few years ago. I loved it so much in the 14 days I played, me and my brother just had incredible amounts of fun from the word go (Which is rare for an MMO)
I've swapped between plenty of MMOs in my "CoX career". I played Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, EVE Online and recently, Age of Conan. But in between each one of those, I've resubscribed to CoX and enjoyed it each and every time.
I just think the game has everything! Once you find the AT and powersets you love, you could just play missions over and over and never get bored. I love that playing in teams is the best way to level, but it's also great to know you CAN solo. Very few other games offer this! The Sidekick system is amazing. The PvP is great fun (Even if it isn't brilliantly balanced, but who cares!)
But most importantly... above all else...
The community!!!!
You guys are such a breath of fresh air from the WoW fools with their "Learn 2 Play" attitude. AoC community seems VERY much the same way. CoX is full of helpful, nice people. Even the flamers aren't that bad compared to other games communities! :-P
I hate to sound like some sort of suck up. But it really had to be said!
Thank you Cryptic and the CoX Community!! -
Going back to the original topic... :-P
Each out of 10
Blaster - 10/10
Controller - 7/10
Defender - 6/10 (10/10 in an organized team)
Scrapper - 6/10
Tank - 5/10
Brute - 4/10
Corrupter - 6/10 (10/10 in an organized team)
Dominator - 4/10 (Or 9/10 for perma dom)
Mastermind - 8/10
Stalker - 9/10
Haven't included elite ATs, because I don't know enough about them in PvP to judge. Quite rare to see them about!
I guess all ATs are viable in some way shape or form in PvP..
I have to say, from my perspective (primarily an MM), Brutes, Tanks and to a much lesser extent Scrappers are just meat shields. They don't usually cause me much trouble damage wise. They're more like a meat shield! :-P -
I'm also Ninjas/Dark, and I love it... despite some of its flaws...
This is what I do, and it works nicely for me, although still not as good as if you were able to toggle all the pets to melee only... That would be awesome!
I use some binds I found on the US forums: HERE
I then press 2 on the numpad to control my Jounin only, and send them into melee only..
I have a hotkey that makes only the Jounin and Oni attack. It's bound to 1 (not numpad) and it's "petcom_pow o attack"
That way, the Genin stay in BG mode and the Jounin and Oni attack. I find Jounin and Oni do a large percentage of the overall damage anyway after level 32
I never bother training the genin, due to the their squishy nature. I only train when I need that extra boost. So that way, they're mostly just for keeping me alive. But of course, as they're defensive, they will attack most of the time anyway.
So in conclusion you have:
- Only two ninjas trying to get into melee range.. No more struggling for space
- Oni staying at range and using holds and stuff
- Three Genin as very disposable bodyguards and a little extra damage
Like I said, it's still not 100% damage efficient but it's a very rounded set up.
If you ever needed more damage, you can always maneuver the rest with the numpad binds!
Hope this helped -
Thanks a lot for your advice, those are a lot of the things I was debating in my mind!
I guess I'm getting Hasten AND Combat Jumping, so I still could go either way and I guess Super Jump is a lot more versatile. Also, hasten is still extremely useful.
I'll swap Lightning Reflexes and Static Shield and sort out the slotting on Health.
Thanks :-) -
Hi guys, this is the first time I've made a build from scratch and I've found it extremely hard. It's very hard to decide which skills to take and what I'd be missing out on if I took it!
My character is currently level 10 and has followed this build so far. I really would appreciate some advice.
This is where I'm coming from with the build:
-Ultimately it will be a PvP build
-I'm going to take these skills as I have them written, I'm not going to respec into this. So it needs to be fairly viable for solo PvE (I want to save the respecs in case I really need them later)

I've only done it up to 38 so far (ie Warburg)
Have I gimped myself in some of the choices I've made? Any order discrepancies?
Like I said, I'm only level 10, and the skills and enhancements I've taken so far are fairly generic, so I can easily change it :-)
Thanks in advance!

As a relative newbie myself... I can see where the "tell-phobia" comes from.
I've found people in Pocket D and PvP zones mostly cool... Pocket D people are mostly friendly RPers and PvP zoners are usually competitive but mostly honourable.
I find people leveling, teaming and soloing to be quite rude. It's amazing how many people just don't reply when you ask them if they want to join a group. A simple "No thank you" would suffice... but literally 60-70% don't even reply on both CoH AND CoV.
This is the only game I've experienced this happening, perhaps I'm just unlucky... or maybe levelers are anti-social, I don't know.. But I've found it a huge annoyance when trying to make a team.
Please people! Reply to polite team requests! Even if you don't want to join the team, dignify their question with an answer..
:-( -
If you've done everything, the chances of something radically new and different to you being added are slim.
And the devs aren't going to go and change something big. I think Sony Online Entertainment taught all other game producers a lesson in that field.
Just take a break or move on is my advice. I'm still new, so it's pretty fresh to me still... but I totally get where you're coming from. -
Looks good to me, but something that sticks out... Why leave Shadow Fall until level 49?
I couldn't live without Shadow Fall on my Ninjas/Dark - But perhaps it's just personal preference :-P -
Thanks a lot for your help guys. I wasn't finding it a huge problem most of the time. I just like to perfect my game :-)
-
That's a pretty good idea, thanks :-P

Hi guys,
I was just hoping to get some advice from some more experienced Ninja users.
Obviously Ninjas (appart from Oni) are way better at melee. To get them to melee I used to just use Goto and force them into melee range.
Since I've had all 6 ninjas, it's become harder to do that because they all fight over the Goto waypoint and some end up getting pushed back into ranged distance.
I've tried just making the Jounin goto (seen as Oni and Genin are both ok at range). But still, I lose some damage from the Genin then.
When I solo, I can usually keep changing their position until they're nicely placed. However in large groups I find this much harder and usually end up not even caring about their position. In doing this, I obviously lose out on a lot of damage though.
What do you guys do? Do you try and get the Jounin AND Genin to melee? Or do you just send in Jounin and any Genin that melee are a bonus?
Thanks in advance -
Perhaps Bloody Bay was a bad or controversial example of the population.
Just generally, it doesn't have the MMO vibe sometimes. I'd like to hang around key areas like the Black Market, Arena, even starting areas and see a bustling hive of activity.
I started a new trial account on the US servers after I posted and did Find Players... guess what, over 1000 villains online lol
In fact, right this moment 2:10 UK time, 7:10 East Coast US time... there are 78 people on Defiant.. over 200 on Freedom US
I'm very tempted to reopen my US account lol
I'd prefer to be with brits... but I'd also like to have a decent sized community :-( -
Kinda sucks that the two English servers can't be merged.
Freedom (US) has more players than Union and Defiant put together lol. At least if Defiant and Union were merged we'd have a fairly bustling community. -
Hi guys :-)
I've noticed how few Villains there are on Defiant compared to Union. At peak hours, Defiant seems to have around 120-150 villains online. Whether as Union has 400+
I'm not completely new to CoV. I played the 14 day trial a while back on USA servers. There were so many more people around than I see on Defiant.
Does anyone find this lack of population to be annoying?
I suppose it means there's a close-knit community. I find I bump into the same people over and over, which I guess is kinda nice.
But I find the problem is in Bloody Bay... I've seen 2 heroes in a week there lol. Is Defiant just no good for PvP?
