Hello,
A long time ago you could customize some costumes items ( Carnie corset ) / weapons ( Auto Rifle mod ) but only client side. This "option" was later disabled. -
Quote:Damn straight (though i think there are loads of people as loyal as me here)! The WAR forumgoers were saying 'If you like PvE then I suggest you try Champions Online'. They couldn't seem to understand that I don't need any replacement for CoH. I'll be here till I'm forcibly DCed when the game ends, or i die, whichever comes first.
Eco.Quote:Me too. This is actually the main reason why I don't play other MMO's anymore.
I hate the fact that you have to be VERY strict about playing only together with your guildmates, so everybody stays on the same level. A difference of even a couple of levels can make things difficult, and five or so levels make things impossible.
CoX isn't the only game with a sidekick system ( not all games do it both ways tho ).
You can do it in EQ2, you can do it in CO ( obviously ), you can do it in WAR ways a previous poster, in Vanguard you have the fellowship system ( not sure if it is working ).
I only named the games I played or play but I am sure there are others.
As far as I am concerned, CoX environnement is just too old for me ( I started playing after launch / before issue 1 and then moved to the EU servers in 2004 or so ).
The character creation is still top notch in my book but the rest feels too old graphic wise ( and yes, graphics are an important part of "my" games. I don't upgrade my PC to play 1999 graphics MMORPG even if the gameplay is from the 23th Century , I only play MMORPG btw ). -
Quote:There is already a message on that matter on the french boardI'm not having a go at you, and wish you the very best... but why would you advertise a French podcast on the English boards?
Surely the French boards would get you more listeners?
Anyway, good luck with your endeavour!
PS : I find amusing that the OP said he didn't speak english very well but write it better than some french people wrote their own language. -

Really? Why's that then?

There are a lot of reasons associated with price discrepancies between the regions. Prices will be set by region to reflect numerous business considerations, and as such comparing prices through exchange rates that fluctuate frequently does not tell the whole story.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's funny because I swear that, when I buy something from a UK internet shop, they don't charge me the way NCEU does.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hi,
Maybe because the VAT may not be included in the price ?

Suppress travelpowers -- Travel powers should either be suppressed entirely in PvP zones (although that would require a complete redesign of the zones) or they should carry significant disadvantages to use. Penalties to stealth, accuracy, resistances and recharge, lingering for a few seconds after they've been used. It should be almost, but not quite, impossible to use them effectively in actual combat -- mostly they should be used as a way to get to the combat, then be turned off.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree on this idea.
It is the one thing that annoy me the most in my casual PvP, the chase. -

Anyway, I see that we don't "understand" the word "hardcore" the same way. For me doing something a lot isn't enough to label it as hardcore activity.
[/ QUOTE ]
Here is a bit of enlightenment courtesy of an English dictionary.
[ QUOTE ]
hard core
n.
1. The most dedicated, unfailingly loyal faction of a group or organization: the hard core of the separatist movement.
2. An intractable core or nucleus of a society, especially one that is stubbornly resistant to improvement or change.
3. often hard·core (härdkôr, -kr) A form of exceptionally harsh punk rock.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think definition 1. is the one that we are interested in.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you.
As far as I am concerned, when it comes to PvP I would add "extreme" in the #1 definition.
Most of the time when I read message boards about PvP, the "hardcore" ( not all of them of course ) usually find no penalty games "carebear" ( example : no full body loot => carebear, instant respawn at the nearest camp => carebear, consensual PvP => carebear ). -

The guy who set off this argument does have a point in a weird way. PvP just isnt really accessable realistically to a casual player in a sense that it is long term fun to them.
And, because most of the posts I've read are pretty (ive only skimmed) advanced, we're not offering solutions to make PvP more accessable on a basic level, therefore creating more PvPers, some of who will graduate to the advanced levels some posters here are at.
What will make more casual players buy into and enjoy the PvP aspect of the game has to be the key question.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hi,
I don't think that there is a "real" solution to the lack of interest in PvP in CoX. It is a side activity of the game ( IMO ) with no repercution for either side.
As an example, when I was playing Daoc in the early days of the game, I was motivated by the RvR aspect because it had a sense, I fought for my realm, I fought for a tangible goal ( the relic keeps which gave your realm a bonus or opened a "PvP" dungeon for the faction with the most keeps ).
As others posters said, there is no reward ( with an impact on your character or faction ) in CoX PvP but this is not necessary a flaw ( it made CoX PvP less stressfull IMO ). -

I find you bringing in the real life army into a discussion about PvP on a computer -game- tactless.

I realize it. I made a mistake. -

Hi,
Just a note for the self proclamed "hardcore pvper" : you are not hardcore, CoX PvP is a perfect exemple of "carbearness". There is no penalty for dying in this game, no loss, no influence loss, no body loot, nothing.
If "you" are that hardcore and like PvP, try out Shadowbane, Lineage2 or some FPS games or join the Army.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, Hardcore PvPers are such because they do it a lot, death penalties are irrelevances and possibly would make even more people not want to do it, as it makes the whole idea (playing against other human players) pointless as you level up a character only to have it crippled.
And comparing the army to any computer game is tasteless and arrogant.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hi,
I didn't compared the game to the army but the attitude of some PvPers thinking they are tought and hardcore in the game.
Anyway, I see that we don't "understand" the word "hardcore" the same way. For me doing something a lot isn't enough to label it as hardcore activity. -

[/ QUOTE ]
Nope but they require players skills, "real" one.
[/ QUOTE ]So CoH PvP is carebear because it lacks death penalties, but FPS PvP somehow isn't? Your argument really isn't consistent.
Oh, and at least 10 people died arond the world during the time it took me to write this post.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok, let's exclude FPS games from my argument because you seem to only focus on this particular example and avoid the others such as Lineage2, Shadowbane, I will also add Asheron's Call Darktide server.

The Army is hardcore? Hah. When was the last time the Army went to war with someone who could give them a challenge? The Army is just base-camping, spawn-killing, ganking noob-hunters.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hi,
In the Army when you die you don't respawn at the nearest camp.
Btw, 10 French soldiers just die in Afghanistan. -

CoH has PvP? :P
[/ QUOTE ]
Not exactly, it depends on the battleground you are using :
- Siren's Call : PvS ( Player vs Stalker )
- Warbug : PvN ( Player vs Nothing )
- Recluse Victory : PvJS ( player vs Jumper-Speeder )
As far as I'm concerned I don't care about PvP in this game, I go to RV to use heavies, pillboxes and to occasionally fight in a 1 vs 1 fight with a non super-jumper-speeder ( rare occurrence I must say ). -
You know you've played too much COX when ...
You think that you are a board moderator.
You think that "thou shalt not farm" is the 11th commandment. -

And if anyone thinks that the prices on the AH are sane, I will say one thing: Scientific Theory.
This is a Common (yes, Common) tech salvage drop. I forget which level range it drops over, but I'm sure some generous and enterprising soul can tell me.
So, given that this is a Common salvage drop, can anyone explain to me how come they now sell for a solid 15,000 inf, and over DXP weekend were seen to sit at a stable (last 5 sales) 200,000 (peaked at 300,000 at one point)?
Could it be that people aren't farming tech-dropping enemies any more? I have no idea, but I can make a serious profit putting the smack-down on some Rikti or Freaks.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hi,
About common salvage prices, I suggest to read the US market board and you will understand Scientific Theory ( or others common salvages ) are/were that expensive.
The Marketeers make profit by flipping the price on common salvages not rares ( or rare too but in a lesser extend ). -

the payable one should allow you to re-choose powersets
would keep several requesters happy and differentiate it nicely from the in-game ones.

That would be too much.
Example : you level X AT to 50 and could try out all powersets available within the AT. -

This is bad news as far as I can see, what next ? Badges, Influence, Prestige and the Big Fella in heaven forbid, Levels. I can see it now Statesmans special power leveling offer of £5.99 for levels 1 to 20 woot
They should also re look at the respect trials, I mean what is the point ??
[/ QUOTE ]
The End is Near ! The End is Near !
The point of the TF trial : a badge, a respec, xp, salvage, recipes.
The list of your "what next" gives an ingame edge to a player next to an another, a paying respec token does not ( IMO ). -
Hi,
Summary :
- Controler : farmer toon + Fire/Kin Syndrom
- Defender : too squishy + slow
- Scrapper : easy mode + scraplock
- Stalker : easy mode + easy mode in PvP
- Blaster : too squishy + don't know how to play
- Brute : see scrapper
- MM : only one good set, rest is gimp
- Dom : overpowered
- Corr : too slow
Morality :
Create the character you want and deleted it past the tutorial.
Alternative :
Don't care about what others might think about your set choice unless they pay you to play. -
Hi,
Nice news.
As far as I am concerned I don't have enought vet respect for my taste ( 36 months vet here ) and don't have the time nor the will to run the TF respect. -

Well, let's see.
If someone should rip off a copyright character, and NCNC don't generic it due to nobody telling them, and the copyright holder sues NCNC, causing the game to be shutdown; I think that would have quite an effect on the player, don't you?
And don't say it couldn't happen, because that's EXACTLY what Marvel tried to do. If they hadn't agreed to settle out of court, it's possible we might not HAVE CoX to play...

i also think petitioning someone for having a rip off costume is petty aswell, i dont see how it effects the game player (i can see why the GMs would want to do something though)

If I am not mistaken the player have to create a ripoff character with the same name ( or very close ) AND costume to "break the rule". -
Hi,
My opinion is as follow : if you have to ask the "community" opinion the name in question is probably EULA compliante.
