  1. I guess the only thing I dont like...which im not sure how to avoid, is that with the time travel, power leveling is now more attractive. PL up..go back get all the badges and your set.
  2. Considering the update is free, I would say the only reason not to release it at their leasure would be if it effected game stability, i.e. crashed the servers. Baring that I say its fair game to release it in any state they choose.

I understand and agree to a point about going live without respecs. But this is also an advantage. Instead of blindly going and respecing as soon as changes went live, your forced to play it some as is and you will more than likely make a more informed decision come respec time later this week. I know I would have made one or more changes on my Fire Tank and Regen Scrapper that I won't be making now that I have played them both some, saving me having to do a respec again to correct the problem.

Also, since people want all this content, and want it as fast as possible, nothing will ferrit out all the bugs faster than throwing it live on all the servers to let people play the material rather than the select few who go to test. As long as its not crashing the servers I don't see what the beef is working out bugs this way.
  3. Ok...maybe, if u really really liked the kheldons, someone might get upset with #18...baring that I don't see it
  4. Looking at my origional post I can't find anything that even resembles being grating in anyway. Spent 2 min brainstorming and posted my top 20 ideas. Can't imagine anything in there getting on anyones nerves, unless I am missing something
  5. Musta missed that in the patch notes on test. From what I herd invul changes went to scrappers as well as tankers.
  6. I am disappointed that you choose not to back up your statements. I was looking forward to hearing this logic to which you profess using.

I wonder if you even read the post to be honest. Several times I spoke about "striking a balance." So this moderation you speak of is only showing you agree with me.

I do hope you change your mind and decide to stand your ground and explain your reasonings based on my counter points to your post. Would hate to think I went to all that trouble to match you point for point to have you back down now.
  7. Gilfred, you are a unique individual, 1 star from all of my accounts. It is hard to imagine one person picking out 20 ideas and finding fault with all of them without some ulterior motive. I don't know what your beef with me is, if one at all, or if your just a troll looking for some much needed attention, but something is obviously going on here, though exactly what I am unsure. As I am catching this after 2 posts from you I will try and get it all in at once.

    1) More distinction between Controller and Defender shared powers. Give defenders a reason to be.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I believe there is enough distinction in their shared powers. Controllers secondary's are the same as most of the defenders primaries. We know that primaries are stronger than secondaries and that is enough distinction for me. Included would be the powers that they do not share would make enough difference.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [ QUOTE ]
1.) How much of a difference between the defenders and controllers do we need and how would you do that?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Response 1) Part 1. You believe there is enough of a distinction already. Since you are obviously an expert with both the controller and defender sets, tell me exactly what that distinction is at this moment and how it is enough. I have both a controller and a defender bubbler, and I don't see this distinction that your describing. I look forward to your detailed analysis on this.

Response 1) Part 2. Were not here to draw the line nor are we required to too make the point a valid one. Dev's are the only one who have the hard numbers thus are the only ones qualified to make that determination.

    [ QUOTE ]
    Quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    3) Power specialization. Give character the ability to explore/research their powers, choose one, and develop that power and become the best at what he/she does in that aspect. I am an AR/Dev Blaster. Let me become a Sniper expert. Let me become a munitions expert with my time bomb and trip mines. Let me become a Rambo type with my Full Auto.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can be a sniper expert right now. All you have to do is to slot your six slotted powers with three range and three damage. Yes you would loss damage but would increase range and make a sniper expert.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [ QUOTE ]
3.)Power specialization at what expense? You said that you would be for being a specialist in one power at the expense of the other skills. Would say 50% reduction in accuracy and damage?

What about blasters that use the combo of perma hasten+stamina+stealth+alpha strike? I have read posts that have said that is the only power combo that some are using during their missions. They sneak into alpha strike range using stealth, then fire their alpha strike. They then use the perma hasten and stamina to recover quicker to be ready to do the same combo again.

I am afraid that this suggestion would cause players to specialize so heavily on one or a few skills that players would take advantage of this and only use a few powers clicking on the same buttons all of the time. Also if there are any enemies that would require a hero to change his use of powers would mean that now he has to use powers that are much weaker, powers that he himself nerfed. Good idea?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Response 3) Part 1. I guess you don't understand the word expert. Expert implies by its very meaning the ability to do something better than the other guy. Right now, all snipers of their AT have exactly the same ability. Though enhancement choices they can tweak this but each and every one has the exact same parameters to work with.

Response 3) Part 2. I Don't see a need for a cost to this ability as it stands on its own. AS for this perma combo thing. Yes, it would appear that you have read a lot of things, but actually experienced very little. Even if one were to exist in this way, it is the slowest, most monotonous, boring form of leveling to be had. I have a 50 AR/Dev blaster. From time to time I do this but it gets old fast. That aside, players are allowed to develop whatever play style they choose. There is no "wrong" or "Bad" or "unethical" choice here. People pay to be here and as such are free to hunt as they choose, who are you to tell them otherwise?

As to the last paragraph of this response. Like your entire flawed argument, you take the absolute worst extreme, and use that as a basis of your argument. As with everything else in this game a balance needs to be struck, why you would assume this would be the exception is beyond me. Allowing players to be the best at one aspect of their current abilities gives players to make a hero that is truly a unique creation of theirs and takes players out of the cookie cutter design we currently have, why would you possibly be opposed to this?

At this point he couldn't get past 4 so I will have to do some separate responses.

    [ QUOTE ]

    4) Missions to acquire additional enhancement slots.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How many total slots would you add? Right now we have a total of 94 slots (67 to spend and 27 that come with the powers).

    [/ QUOTE ]
Again I am not required to draw the line to make this a valid request/idea. Those with the hard numbers can make that determination. Personally I would be happy with just a few more slots to round out my powers that I choose at the end of my career.

    [ QUOTE ]

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    5) How about missions/research to get unique costume parts, where one could quest to get an entire set.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think that would be unfair to everyone. I like things as far as costumes go now that all pieces are available to all at level one.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
New costume pieces he suggested was based on a task force mission. There are many players (myself included) that do not have the time to do a task force mission. Now I know that capes were added and you must do a mission to get them which I do not mind. If he was talking about adding new pieces that have never been there like capes then that would be okay to tie them to a mission similiar to the cape mission. Now if he was talking about new boots, gloves or anything else that is already there then no because it would be unfair.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Will combine this one. In your first response you claim that this is unfair, yet you didn't say how. In your second response you make a grand leap and say that I suggested that it was for task forces. Re-re-re read what I said. I said missions, like we get from contacts. Something that we can take on solo at our leaser. So, if you can stop making things up to justify your reasoning, I look forward to hearing other ways you think this is unfair for players to have more options and ways to earn getting them rather than having them handed to them for free and no effort.

    [ QUOTE ]
    Quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    9) Alternate character abilities. Something to allow anyone, no matter what their level, to continue to develop their characters.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We already have that it is called getting experience and leveling your character by chosing slots or powers.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I Obviously didn't explain this in a way that you were able to understand. The word alternate refers to something other than what we already have. Thus Alternate abilities would be abilities that we don't already have, abilities that heroes can work on to further their characters development.

    10) Raise the cap on travel power speed. Make a map wide teleport power as the final travel power in the teleport power set.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think that the travel powers are fast enough.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
6.) How much faster do you have to be moving? Do all travel powers have to equal teleportation? You would be so fast that you could stand at the south end of Steel Canyon, blink your eyes and you are standing at the north end. Maybe you do not like to use the tram to travel.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Part 1). Really? And why is that? I'm sure you have a reason and wouldn't dare post without having a good one so lets hear it. Enlighten us with your wisdom.
Part 2). Once again taking the worst case and making it the basis for a flawed argument. Faster means faster, more than what it is now. As with all things a balance needs to be struck, why you would think that this would be another exception is beyond me, do try to stop reading into things.

    [ QUOTE ]
    Quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    11) Raise the roof. Let heroes adventure and fly/travel out into space. Missions to/on the moon or involving space/space ships.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bad idea to do this you would have to design space type map, as well as giving the heroes a new pool power to allow them to survive in space

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't begin to understand this response, and by this point in the post I am beginning to see you probably don't understand yourself. Why anyone would be against additional content is again beyond me. Why do you think that additional space content is bad? You assume that only a power pool would allow travel into space, tell us why you think this would be the only solution. Us hillbillies have this new fangled thing we like to use when we step out into void of space, we like to call it a space suit.

These two are related so putting them together.

    13) More interaction with the world. I want to interact with my world, not just have it push me around.

    17) Random property damage. This a huge part of most any comic book is the random property damage that almost always occurs, possibly with an influence consequence for excessive damage to the city.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bad idea because after a period of time you would not have any buildings left to do a mission in. Yes, property damage does happen in the comics, but will never happen here. Because the property damage in the comics can and usually is fixed by the next issue when the artist redraw the city. Paragon City cannot fix damage that fast.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Again word definition issues here. More means something in addition to what we have now. I would like to toss a car about, blast a hole in a wall, blow stuff up just for the sake of doing it. That aside if you have ethical issues as a hero, random property damage is a huge part of many major comic books. Ever read the Fantastic 4? Ever read Spider Man? I have more than 4000 comics in my private collection alone and random property damage due to battle with a villain is an often talked about issue in those magazines.

    [ QUOTE ]
    Quote:

    16) A blaster toggle attack. A continuos attack that deals damage. I.E. a continuos beam of energy/electricity/fire/ice/laser(for the AR people)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bad idea because it would become an endurance hog. Is you idea to make blasters use as much energy as defenders and controllers?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
8.) Are you saying that all power sets must have a toggle? Did you forget that /dev has at least two toggles, cloaking device and targeting drone? And what about /electric has a toggle Lightning Field? When I said that would make it an endurance hog, does not mean I was saying that all toggle powers and high endurance powers must be removed. There are very few blasting powers in the comics that are continuous.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Part 1) Who cares if its an endurance hog. First your assuming on its cost then using that as a basis of your argument. Second, it's what we in free society like to call a choice. If you don't like it you don't have to use it.

Part 2) Again forming a flawed argument to try to prove a point. This suggestion in no way implies that all sets must have a toggle, this is a very cheap way to try to prove a point and is aside from the point at hand. I have hundreds if not thousands of examples where a hero is using a continuous blast of whatever his/her power is at a powerful foe in an attempt to bring it down. The number of heroes who can do this is a lot more than what your suggesting but again like the rest of your post is aside the point. If there was one or two examples of heroes doing this then that is enough to set presidents and make it fitting for this style of game. This again gives a hero more options and I can't begin to understand why you would be against more things to do in a game.

    [ QUOTE ]
    Quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    19) Additional body types. I want a Blob type character.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think this is the worst idea of the bunch. The Blob type body would suggest you want to create a Blob clone.

    [/ QUOTE ]
As with the rest of your responses, you seem to think you have some twisted form of telepathy that can tell what all of our intentions are. They're are numerous heroes and villains alike in the comics in the reality that I live in that are not the perfect human specimen. Many have deformities or things that make them different. Many are over weight. I think it would only be fitting to have those options available to us. Why you would be against this additional content is beyond me but look forward to your reasoning behind it.

    [ QUOTE ]
Finally I guess that you like other players play games that allow you to do more than just fight the enemy. Those games allow you to destroy things as well. You feel that would be great to add in this game. Remember the reason why the heroes are not allowed to do this according to one poster. This poster had the best explaination why as far as I am concerned. He said it is because heroes have control over their powers. A suggestion like this is saying that you want heroes to appear as uncontrolled super heroes, instead of heroes with great control.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I guess where I come from, and the comics that I read there is this little thing we call Free Will. Heroes are heroes because they "choose" to be heroes. They are not forced at gunpoint to go out and save the day. They choose to do so. A lot of the time they make the right choices, but sometimes they don't, why should this game be any different. If a hero chooses to act in a non heroic way, who are you to say they can't? I say let them, and let with that choice come with some consequences of that unheroic act. Maybe a cost of influence, maybe with enough acts, status being changed to that of fallen hero or villain taking into account the coming of CoV. Or haven't you ever heard of a hero gone bad? This is again additional content and why you would be against that is beyond me but look forward to hearing your reasoning.

    [ QUOTE ]
You know if what I did is wrong why make the same mistake and try to do the same thing I did. Why not instead of taking the time to rip me apart, show me why I am wrong and all of his ideas are the greatest thing that could happen to this game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe to give you a taste of your own medicine.

Now all of this aside, I find it hard to believe that one person could find so many faults, flawed and baseless as they may be, about any one single poster. What's really going on here that is motivating this kind of negative reaction to the post? How about sending me a PM and filling me in on this little mystery.

    P.S.1 Shouldn't this count as 2 or 3 posts?
P.S.2 Ack I sprained my pinky finger typing this all out.
P.S.3 Sorry for the post legnth. Takes a really wide shovel to move this much BS around.
P.S.4 If you read this entire thing in one sitting let me know, that alone deserves a 5 star.
  8. 1) More distinction between Controller and Defender shared powers. Give defenders a reason to be.

    2) Some way, be it mission or skill to make/receive the better enhancement.

    4) Missions to acquire additional enhancement slots.

    5) How about missions/research to get unique costume parts, where one could quest to get an entire set.

    6) Costume parts that augment powers.

    7) Something to make one Archetype different from another. Maybe like specific costume parts for Tech peeps, others for Science people..ect...ect.

    8) Enhancement that have a new/unique effect? Maybe rare drops.

    9) Alternate character abilities. Something to allow anyone, no matter what their level, to continue to develop their characters.

    10) Raise the cap on travel power speed. Make a map wide teleport power as the final travel power in the teleport power set.

    11) Raise the roof. Let heroes adventure and fly/travel out into space. Missions to/on the moon or involving space/space ships.

    12) More things to spend influence on. Hoping Super Team bases have a multitude of options for us to purchase. Personally I want a docking bay in my HQ to go on those space/moon missions.

    13) More interaction with the world. I want to interact with my world, not just have it push me around.

    14) Additional AT's. I like the idea of a gunslinger scrapper and Sonic blaster. I like the idea of a weapons expert better I think. A Bullseye type character that uses multiple weapon types. How about a true magic type character. Spell casting, magic blasts, maybe power progression based on getting artifacts such as Dr. Strange uses like his amulet and cloak.

    15) Power combo attacks. When grouped with others the ability to cause come sort of a combined effect. I.E. Ice/Fire attack= steam effect, Tanker/Scrapper=fastball special, that sort of thing.

    16) A blaster toggle attack. A continuos attack that deals damage. I.E. a continuos beam of energy/electricity/fire/ice/laser(for the AR people)

    17) Random property damage. This a huge part of most any comic book is the random property damage that almost always occurs, possibly with an influence consequence for excessive damage to the city.

    18) Pray that Kheldons are held back to issue 4 and rethought out. I am an avid comic book collector and I can't seem to find any of my Squid and Lobster comics. I could see this concept working with maybe a shapeshifter line of thinking on powers but short of this the current power scheme isn't very epic. I won't be making one in issue 3 as they stand now. Good at a few things, epic at nothing. Thanks to the Devs for the effort but please keep one thing in mind when making an Epic AT. When a player looks at one of these Epic AT running around the city, or fights with one in a group, they should immediatly say "dam, I gotta get me a level 50 character, and fast." I look at the Kheldons atm and after level 6, I just get a ho-hum reaction. Thor, Silver Surfer, Quasar, and Superman are what I envision a Epic type hero.

    19) Additional body types. I want a Blob type character.

    20) Additional weapon types for weapon using characters at character creation/costume missions or even missions to receive new graphics. Multiple sword types for scrappers, multiple gun types for AR people, multiple axes/maces(even a hammer) for tankers.
  9. So has anyone seen anything anywhere on an estimated release date on issue 3?

As far as regen scrappers go...After the insane beating my AR/Dev blaster took, I decided at level 45 to abandone him and made a DM/Regen Scrapper. He is 33 now, and of the 30+ characters I've played from 12-45, he is by far the easiest to level. As I am writing this, 8 level 35 criminal minions are pounding on my level 33 scrapper and I have no concern about being killed. About the only fix I can see is making us more vulnerable to status effects thus causing our toggles to turn off more.
  10. I guess none of this makes any sense to me. Why would they becoem their own competition?
  11. Might have been mentioned in another place but I am curious. City of Villians is going to be a seperate game, not an expansion of City of Heroes? I've read little about it but I was under the assumption that this was going to be an addition to what we are already playing, i.e. same servers, same characters just new selections to choose from.
  12. why anyone would quoet from a guild that is 75%+ innacurate is beyond me
  13. So out of curosity, has any dev posted yet on this thread or blaster board since Issue 2?
  14. I guess what eats me is a total lack of response concerning blasters. This post has his name on it yet 11 pages later we see nothing by anyone on the Dev team. IMO they messed up, don't have the balls to talk with their customers on it post patch, and IMO they have decided to the interest of their paycheck, to cut their losses now, loose some customers, so that in the long run those that try CoH will take an average of 2-3x as long to hit that lofty level 50 mark.

I've read a solid 90% of the posts on this particular board and I've yet to see a single Dev response. NOW...this is indeed assuming that Dev's are allowed on the blaster boards, that the Dev's sometime read these posts and that they are allowed to post here but for whatever reason are choosing not too. If they have posted on other boards then I haven't seen them as the amount of content on here is about all one can hope to keep up with, though why they would post about blasters on a non blaster board is beyond me.

All this praise about the great response from these people "was" well earned. But like that good Samaritan who helps an old lady across the street, but lets her get run over by a truck because he is afraid to stick his [censored] out there when times are tough, I've little use and little praise. IMO, with all this discourse and misunderstanding as to the true intentions of the Dev team and this patch, this is the time we should be hearing from them the most, in "our" time of need.
  15. IF the purpose was to slow down the Dev blasters from solo they failed miserable. All they did was make it infinitely more boring thus lowering the time their going to get people to stay here in preference to other, now more fun games. With phase shift and trip mines I can take out the same group of even-+1 mobs that I did before...sure takes a bit longer but still taking them out just the same.
  16. You stated the heart of my concern very well. Why did it take so long to take away if it was so overpowered? At what point does the dev team say, "we dropped the ball" and at this point since it has been in for so long that it is unfair to the players who have invested so much time in that taking it away would be wrong? And maybe find another fix. I have 15 ish characters before my AR/Dev blaster. 1 was level 25...other was 19...several more in the mid to high teens, all before I made my main that is level 39 now. That is a lot of time to go buy to just not discover that something isn't right.
Super Cudo's to the customer service, best in any game I've ever been in...and I go back as far as Never Winter Knights on AOL. But answer me this...at what point does the dev team take responsibility for a mistake and say its been in the game too long to take it away...and come up with an alternate solution so the players don't ultimately pay the price for these errors?
  17. Whelp fresh off test server and I must say, as a 39 AR/Device blaster I am floored by the changes. Though floored doesn't seem to quite cover it, my heart is in my shoes. I didn't ask for my design, I just choose it as is and choose my strategy. IMO you just ask way to much to take a backstep in power as we have with this upcoming nerf. Your mistake, but our consequences. PI hunting is no longer viable at my level. With haste/CD/SGx3 and 3 Good Luck defense tabs, a level 41 group mowed me down 1st volley. I went to bricks, level 38 group (that would be 1 level lower than me) reduced me to half hp by fights end. So I've gone from groups of Level 42-43 to now having to fight criminals 1 level or more below me for worthwhile exp. As 30k debt death a pop isn't worth taking too many risks when exp is coming in at 160 a pop rather the 500-2500 a pop pre patch.

This isn't an argument weather we were over powered or if this is right or wrong so don't go there. It is however one massive pill we've been asked to swallow. I feel as if I am a far above average gamer in the planning/stragity department. I plan my powers and slot allocation through 40 before even entering the character select screen. I know at level 1 exactly what I will have at every given level through 40, but there is no possible way I could have planned for a fundamental change such as this. I am level 1 again, I have to completely relearn how to play my level 39 character. I have to completely rediscover my boundaries on what I can and cannot do. I have to devise new hunting strategy as everything I have learned to this point is no longer relevant to the character I will be inheriting come post patch.

Call me a whiner if you must, but I don't know any other way to clearly state that I detest these changes, to the point of physical pain every time I think about what my character has become. I have invested what is for me a tremendous amount of time into this character. I am paid through September and I will see through these changes until then so I am not quite sure what I'll do. I do know my initial reaction is this level 39 character is not what I signed on for, knowing what I know now I would have invested my time into another class. I do know I don't have it in me to do the grind to level 39 again with the very real possibility that any choices I make now, despite any planning/stragity on my part will be completely useless when yet another change of this magnitude is made to yet another class/power.
