Earth & Beyond was way better than WoW though...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Agreed. I was surprised it (review-wise) beat out all the iterations of EVE they could come up with since population-wise I'm pretty sure it's much higher than EnB ever was... but this is a different generation of MMOs than four-five years ago.

    Congrats to COX

I don't remember it being two joysticks (though it may have been in some places and not in others - instead having buttons?) but yeah I remember that game was a blast.

I had the first arcade in San Diego open up about 2 blocks from my house, and a 2nd right next to my school. Talk about awesome

From that page on the right:
    [ QUOTE ]
The Crazy Climber arcade game featured a gentleman trying to climb up multi-story skyscrapers without safety equipment for no readily-apparent reason. His progress was hampered by opening and closing windows, inhospitable folks dropping flowerpots from their windows, and evil birds dropping... their natural ammunition. At higher levels, truly diabolical obstacles like live electrical wires and movie-inspired giant gorillas were added to the mix. The game's most notable feature was its two-joystick control scheme, in which each stick controlled one of the climber's two hands.

  3. I'd forgotten about this for awhile 'till I saw it on my favorite topics. Someone needs to ask _Castle_ at his Ask a Dev about it... or perhaps we all spam it for every dev interview citing that it "could" be done...

    Drops II

I haven't read all the pages, so I'm bound to be repeating:

Why not just have a two pool system? General, and Advanced? I understand the time/reward issue and think that two pools by themselves will solve this whole "I only do Story Arcs!" and "My 50 has finished all the Story Arcs" problems.

Or, perhaps a percentage system such that:

Completed Story Arc: 100% Chance of Pool B Reward
Completed Taskforce: 75% Chance of Pool C Reward, 25% Chance of Pool B
Completed Trial: 75% Chance of Pool D Reward, 25% Chance of Pool B

When you do a Story Arc, you should be guaranteed a Pool B because you can only do it once, as is so often pointed out. The other two should provide their own reward most of the time, but make it so that you have a reasonable chance (though potentially 4 run-throughs, possibly more) of getting a Story Arc to appese those that have completed most if not all of their Story Arcs. But if you don't want a Story Arc item, you should only have to repeat it once if you get a Story Arc item the first time.

This might make Story Arcs less awesome, but this game isn't about Phat lewt, so if you want to provide better bonuses for more time (which I agree with), then you need to make sure no one is left out of getting some items.
  5. I only read about half the replies, so I might be repeating someone else.

I have a couple of possible suggestions:

One: Make one power that can be taken called "Back Story" or something such as that, and then this unlocks the actual power pool which doesn't come out of your normal power choices. Then how often you get a new power can be say every 5, or so levels. I'm not entirely sure how many powers you would want a given character to have from these, so the level could be adjusted.

Two: Based off of the previous, but with a slightly larger power-hit: One pool power/back story: I.e. you take a power such as "Rogue Back Story" and that unlocks the Rogue power pool, and then if you want something from another you have to take that power pool. This hurts multi-dippers though, but it feels more appropriate this way, and makes it so that the players decide how many of the backstory power pools they want in spite of a 1/level type thing.

Three: The strictist and most limiting would be to make it another choice like Origin at the beginning, but this would limit you to one power pool.

Bottom-Line: I don't think it should be one power choice/power in power pool. I also don't think it should be completely free. It needs to fit somewhere in-between, there are a few suggestions that fit this that could work. I'm almost in favor of the enhancement slot replacement, because, especially at the beginning, it feels like you have too many, so it would feel natural to take a power instead, though one might wish they hadn't when they get towards the end.
  6. I'm glad to see that at least one dev played Earth and Beyond. It just wasn't given much of an opportunity to succeed when they took Westwood out of the picture.

I never made it to 150, got close but couldn't keep going in such an empty game after they announced the closure.
  7. I don't have any problem with Lighthouse.

I'd like to see all modded threads have justification posted somewhere. I also don't think it is necessary to have his modding posts show up in the Dev Digest, though it's not that big of a deal. If there were some way to easily not include them in the dev digest, I think it would be better.

Honestly, I don't see why people have such a problem following rules (except for the somewhat more obscure ones, i.e. I didn't even realize that this thread is technically against the rules). Most of them are there to keep threads logical and informative. People should be able to realize that their thread, which only reads "OMGOMGOGMG!1!!!!111 MY CTONROLERER GOT NERFTEDED BY STATESMANAS THIS GAME SUCKS NOW AND I DONT WANNA PLAY AGAIN" should be removed. I know these aren't the only posts being modded, but honestly things could go a lot further with the existing rules. The examples being used of "1 mile over the speed limit, that's not fair" are usually not applicable. The moderators let individuals get away with so much unrelated, illogical nonsense, for example the "I like Pie" comments.

I'm sure that some threads are "unjustly" moderated, but I am also sure that this is less than 1% of the modded threads. These can be taken up with a PM effectively.

    -----
You must realize you have very few "rights" with anything involved in this game. Chief among them is the right to access the servers if you pay the fee, which is only guaranteed assuming you do not break any of the terms you sign off to every time you play.

NC would be completely in it's rights to delete every character you have, terminate your forum account, and probably turn the game into a chat room and still continue to charge you a subscription fee.

I know this isn't how anyone treats their account and this game, but it is the truth.
    ----
Oh, and regarding Lighthouses personality, it just seems to me that Lighthouse is approaching this as the "face of the company" position and that is why all of his posts seem like Press Releases. There is nothing wrong with this, though it would be nice to see him posting in threads leisurely more often.

    THE BIG MISTAKE.

Actually... this could make a good (though hard to justify) Christmas event. They write the song and record it, then it plays constantly while you have to fight the enemies in the song. I'm not entirely sure how it would work. I suppose the worst case scenario would be a 12-part raid, you fight the stuff in the first day, then the stuff in the second day (and like the Christmas song the stuff from the first day also)...

Wait... is it supposed to be that each subsequent day the receiver gets everything they got before and the stuff for the new day? Or do they just repeat it to make the song longer?

Edit: Changed it to a raid instead of a task force after realizing that Hami and others were included in most people songs.

    THE BIG MISTAKE.

Though this isn't a perfect example, there used to be this great game called Earth and Beyond. The devs (or at least I was led to believe that it was the devs) recorded a 12 days of E&B. Regardless, I think a 12 days of CO* would be grand.

Just in case you want to hear it: 12 Days of E&B
  10. If I were a Dev for the game, I'd make my own powersets in a AT called "Developer," i.e. Positron would be a Positron/Positron Developer, and you could add whatever powers you want to each, and modify the powers as you like, and make completely new ones (as long as they don't require much work, i.e. new art)... I'd say it'd be a fair perk. I'd make Giant AOE Knockbacks and such that could affect an entire zone, etc., just fun little things.
  11. Request:

On the next guide, I'd really like to see a "Must Haves" or something such as that on the secondaries, I understand that it's kind of hard to say as it depends on play-style, but it would be nice to point out the really awesome ones, or, alternatively, point out the ones you probably want to stay away from or are extremely situational.

Also, if you could provide some insight into slotting Carrion Creepers for Plant (there's so much... does it follow the same soft control trend?) and maybe some insight into pet slotting would be nice.
  12. I think the GM idea is the best. Make it extremely vulnerable to knockback (i.e. a normal knockback would go 1.5x to 2x as far with the BRB). I'd think it might be able to interpret damage as knockaround, maybe. Perhaps some line of code with the damage that says something perhaps like (damage)/2=yds(knockaround), but very few of us know much about it.

I'm getting this feeling that this might eventually be implemented... I mean... Castle seems to like it, so perhaps he'll consider the GM idea. Perhaps he could have some underling guards with hover or fly and have knockaround vulnerability that would be balloons?

    Bodyguard

When you're in defensive... your hench will attack whoever is attacking you, right? This hasn't changed at all? So, if they're always in defensive (which mine pretty much are), you set them to attack my target (still def), then to follow me, they'll be in bodyguard mode attacking who you want them to.

If you get attacked by someone, the minions will all just switch to attacking that guy, right? I don't think I see many downsides to it.
  14. Though I'd never use it, wouldn't it be somewhat easier to use the minion name property by having perhaps pressing 1, load new binds for 1 2 and 3, each with a corresponding minion name, then pressing 1 2 or 3 for those will re-bind 1 2 3 for min/lt/boss, then 2 will rebind and 2.

This to me would feel more natural, but I could be insane, and this might not even be possible, and like I said, will probably never worry about individual pet commanding.
  15. I'd pay (inf) to see that.

Would be cool to have weekly "wresting" matches (I hate wrestling) that stages various GMs against each other, and then end every night with a free for all.

Or perhaps on some nights allow at the end to have all the GMs against all of the PCs that are there, villains and heroes on the same team.
  16. [ QUOTE ]

Just remember, if you want to have a power that doesn't do the damage or the additional effect that it states on the description, but instead aggros EVERYTHING in the vicinity on you directly, take the Photon Grenade... If you rather stay safe and have a useful power, pick anything else ;D

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think there's something wrong with Photon Grenade--the devs couldn't have meant to seemingly lie completely about the power. When I respec, I'm probably going to get rid of it in favor of anything. It sounded really good when I got it... when I tested it, I was kinda angry. I guess I should of training room'ed it, but I have an urge to protest the training room as some way to test powers on the real server SHOULD exist (Allow you to preview a power for say 5 minutes, allow you to take back a power as long as it hasn't been more than an hour, or my suggestion, a base item called the battle simulator.).

It sounds interesting, the main part of this guide I was mainly interested in was slotting for primaries, and what secondaries are useful as I hate almost all of my secondaries except ff gen, sometimes web grenade, and I never use the healing thing, as I forget and never found it useful, maybe it actually is better now, though.
