Quote:Relevant as in, pertains to. It's more incentive for 50's to run them than for the reward merits or align merits (if a toon can even get an a. merit, rogues and vigilantes obviously excluded). I made no comment to the usefulness or size of the reward. An Astral Merit is not a "relevant reward" when it comes to working down an Incarnate Path. It's a small drop in a huge bucket. To borrow a euphemism, "It takes a long time to get to England in a rowboat."
They're planning better solo-friendly Incarnate content for an undisclosed release in the future. It still won't be as fast as running Incarnate Trials--they've said that the trials are always going to be the main, intended way for players to earn and expand upon their Incarnate abilities--but it'll be better than running the Signature Story Arcs for one Astral every week. -

Quote:I'll /second this. The trials are pretty interesting content but they are a big team commitment, a smaller taskforce or solo path would be nice. I mean I'm still working on my first 50, but it'd be nice if I had a solo Incarnate event to play when I get there, even if it is slower than running the full on Trials.Eh, as long as it doesn't lead to Meet the Parents Of The Well.
- and, really... c'mon... *some* non-trial-Incarnate path? I know we had the marketingspeak noncommittal looking into possibly talking with someone over the water cooler about maybe forming a committee to consider a focus group which might sometime mention a discussion over the possibility of a small team/solo incarnate path, but having one *really* would be appreciated. We've got a pile of trials now. Can we maybe, possibly start looking at something else? -

Info just came out today -

this is a good guide for explaining the how and whats of the incarnate system. Hopefully what you're looking for -
Quote:I thought this too at first, but it will hit the upgrade for everything you have currently summoned that can be upgraded. Just look for the visual cues on your pets, every upgrade power gives them some new goodie, like zombies have red puff breaths or the grave knights get shoulder armor. So summon everything, then hit the power once, you'll see all of them change. When upgrading your pets with the first/second upgrade powers do you have to activate it on each pet separately or do they all upgrade if there by you? Im old school and just came back to game. You had to do it all separate but I just read a post that said otherwise. The upgrade animation only shows on selected pet so I assumed it was only on that one.

Yeah I don't think they were explained very well, and in fact, they're kind of dorky.
So, they play their vengeance on oathbreakers. We even ask "ok, so who broke what oath?" and the answer gets glossed over because, it doesn't really matter, they just intend on killing everything in First Ward on principle. It's just a very "Uh.. what?" kind of answer. They're meant to be 'divine retribution' but it's just a 'kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out' approach. Which yeah doesn't make them that scary so much as just this big force of faceless badness. And Serene, as was said, isn't given enough development or background to really make us care for her as a character or a villain.
The end of First Ward is basically, this person we don't know is trying to do something bad using this group that is a pseudo apocalypse because they're just very bad tempered. -

Quote:That doesn't really make him not evil, that just makes him a villain with an end justifies the means kind of attitude and a 'noble' goal.Doom isn't evil.
Well, most of the time. There have been a couple of aberrant episodes.
Doom usually just has an agenda that runs counter to the heroes.
In fact, Jean Grey has at one point mind-scanned him, and realized Doom hasn't got a truly evil bone in his body.
He just honestly believes he needs to be the one running the world because he's the best man for the job. He thinks that under his rule, all of humankind will achieve a perfect utopian society.

yeah but the whole point is that he's supposed to be the 'hero fallen from grace'. We're not seeing the bits where he's heroic, he's purely 'post fall' in Praetoria and Prime where we see him just playing lapdog to Cole. Desdemona is the redeemed villainess, so we see her as a bad girl (low level tip missions) see her turn a new leaf (higher level tips) and eventually turn good (Underground Trial).
Maelstrom... is always a baddie. When he's first introduced he's kind of mysterious, but by the end of the Praetorian arc he's a pretty big Grade-A jerk that has no qualms about murdering for Cole. And at least in the low level tip missions you see him working with the Council to espouse the 'virtues' of everyone becoming a lick boot to Cole.
There is no point in the player presented story where we see Maelstrom as a good guy, even though he's meant to represent the Hero who falls from grace and turns villain (IE, vigilante). -
Quote:As far as the average Praetorian knows, the Sonic Fences work.I'm still trying to figure out how anyone would think that sonic fences that only exist above ground would work against creatures that often inhabit tunnels. I've seen some supposedly really smart people do really dumb things in my time, but if I lived on Praetorian Earth, I'd already be a little nervous about the ability for our crack defense force to protect me from acid indigestion much less Hamidon.
As far as anyone above them knows, this is exactly what happened with first Ward. The Fences worked, until Hamidon shoved up from the center of the city.
Actually I'm really curious if we're going to see Praetorian Hamidon eventually. Given the Praetorian design of Devouring Earth (like the Seed, the Avatar), I really think hami is more menacing looking than just a giant amoeba. Especially since, if I recall from the lore, Cole and Hamidon had it out in an epic fight that tore up a lot of country and.. I really find that hard to visualize with a giant amoeba. -
I dunno it's kind of nice for all the parading around we've seen with him to actually come up to something. Posterboy for going rogue as the 'Fallen Hero' but mostly we've just seen him play lackey to the loyalists and whining about how we're 'all wrong' and 'it's better to side with Cole'.
Though come to think of it, he's pretty piss poor as the vigilante. Desdemona we at least see in the lower levels as a villainess and going through the higher levels we see her evolve to a hero. Maelstrom has always just been a dick in any content I've seen him in. -
Yeah, and there's no guarantee current salvage options will unlock what's coming up. New trial might mean new stuff for unlocking the higher or whatever is being added.
Also, it sounds cool, but I'll have to echo that for non-End game players, what else is there? Nothing really in the announcement. -

Quote:Actually, I'd say they're mostly ignored because of Praetoria's generally low population and I just don't see a lot of people bothering to take their Prime/high level characters into it except for badge hunting. That is, I think it's just Praetoria in general that's the problem there, not necessarily the rewards for the events, which are pretty nice, at least for newbies (and the fact they're the only way to get SOs in Praetoria).Look at the Praetorian zone events. Those are pretty fun....and mostly ignored. Reward those and GMs properly and people will do them. It's a MMORPG, chasing shinies is a big part of the genre. Let's not fight it.
And for new players, it's a matter of actually encountering them. There's nothing in game that points you to them except running into them. Especially for the first two events it's pretty easy to not go near them the whole time in Nova Praetora or Imperial City. The Great Escape is the easiest to run into, but the whole thing is on a timer instead of being activated like the other events, so it's pretty often you run into it on the cool down timer.
So what would be a reasonable reward/set of rewards to everyone for taking down any particular GM, or if you'd like to get specific. As said, Deathsurge and Scrapyard are some of the most targeted because they offer accolade goodies. Probably not an ideal to offer with every GM, but certainly something worthwhile that could be implemented for at least a few others. -
-
Wow I didn't even know about the Pirate Traps. >>
-
Yeah I'll echo that, I have a necro/dark MM that is nearing 30 and has solo'ed the entire time, with a death count in the single digits still.
-
Been thinking on that too. Some really cool accessories....none of which work with my head selection.
Then again, it's sort of the same for Monster legs. I can have proper looking critter legs, but I can't wear anything like kilts. Critters with critter legs are always naked waist down ;p -
Actually, speaking of Villainside GMs, what's with their rarity? >> Heroside has nearly a dozen, Villains get 4.
-
Wait, who/where was Praetorian Percy?
It wasn't Master Midnight was it? >> -
Quote:Or just put a timer on them like the SSAs, and again, for the XP/Inf, put the biggest chunk onto the badge you earn for killing them, so it's worthwhile to do it for XP *once*, but offer other rewards. I mean the game practically throws Merit rewards at you by the bucket full.In order to reward more significantly GM rewards, but be able to control them so they don't get out of control, we could add a GM-Merit currency to the game!
Then again, a 'monster hunter' style NPC group with new rewards for trading in 'monster merits' doesn't sound terribly bad. And offer some way to *introduce* players to giant monsters. Seriously, most of the info I've found on them I've found on the wiki and the boards. Where is the in-game info for any of them? -
Yeah, the kiddo thing is pretty passable. Replace it with 'newbie' in your head if it makes you feel better.
Aaaand, yeah, I have to say that the Twinshot arc, much as I dislike these 'super tutortials', it better than Graves arc. For one, the Graves arc just tosses you into some very chumpblock missions (Sorry, I'm a squishy dominator still gaining his powers, why throw 2 Boss spawns at me *at the start of a mission*? Oh what's that, a whole mission of nothing but boss after boss spawn?) And two, while the Twinshot arc has some things thrown in to obviously appeal to younger crowds and some poor attempts at humor, the Graves arc is just... degrading for what it puts you through and how it makes you act.
Twinshot at least flows together decently and the tutorial elements feel somewhat better woven together, wheres Graves everything seemed like so much afterthought. "Oh yeah, enhancements, he gave his up, what an idiot. You shouldn't do that" etc. And none of the characters are really likable. I mean, they're all villains so that's sort of the point, but they're not *good* villains. A good villain you like to dislike. The Hearts of Darkness are just plain unlikeable. At least the Shining Stars have some characters you can like.
I think part of the problem could be solved fairly easily by altering the end of Matthew Hashaby's contact chain. Once it ends you're just stuck with Twinshot unless you go street sweeping or hit radio missions. Why not just have the end contact do what a number of traditional contacts do and give a choice of contacts, pick from like 3-4 to go to. -
Quote:I'm not complaining about it, but it does make me laugh to be frying up a mob of 3 while their buddies just sit and watch and sip coffee.Funny how people get upset at ambushes but aren't the least bit bothered by being able to lay the smack down on some baddies within plain sight of other bad guys and they never sound an alarm.
I like to think it's the ninja dynamic. One ninja on his own is the most dangerous thing the world. A gang of ninjas is the most harmless thing in the world because they will only come at you 2-3 at a time while the rest watch.
As for the ambushes, yeah, they do get a fair bit irritating. Mostly when I can see it coming, like in the instance I'm surrounded by "friendlies" and just wondering what will trigger them to go Unfriendly and hoping I'll be able to get into some strategic position ASAP.
