Just an observation on your slotting.

You have performance shifter chance of slotted in drain psyche. You also have stamina 3 slotted. Moving the proc to stamina will give you endurance more often.

You can either move the proc to the third slot in stamina or move the slot. If you move the slot you can put 4 pieces of performance shifter in stamina for some very nice set bonuses. If you move the proc but not the slot, you can put in a recharge proc in drain psyche to have it available more often.

The above is a thread from October speaking of both the perfect time to buy purples and the perfect time to sell purples, because of price rises coming and the immediate crash of purples, respectively. Oddly enough prices are pretty much where they were then, with small variances in both directions.

The xp/inf scale in the same way on teams. If you don't market your drops you don't care about them anyway except for crafting.

And I would toss Hail of bullets into the ring. Call it, will get you killed probably wont do much to the enemy.

The set has a horrific redraw penalty. Until that is fixed the set needs to be significantly better than it is.

    This, this, this

The animations are all things that will get you escorted off a gun range. The damage from the set is at best subpar.

2 minuses no positive. I just don't see playing it on a blaster. The only upside was the nuke was pbaoe non crashing, but given the animation time, recharge time and low damage, its rain of arrows ftw still.

If so many people were using and enjoying the fast leveling that this gentleman couldn't find teams its pretty substantial evidence that a majority were enjoying it. Now you can go into the wisdom of removing features that your customers like and use, but cost you nothing but that is a different discussion.

I don't think I've done the initial contact blueside in over a year anyway, so that was no big deal.

There are other missions that will get you past the first 20 levels in about an hour. Easy enough to find them as well. I would say more but there are people that resent anyone having access to such things.

Mostly, I just use a bunch of big words and try to explain what I was thinking to make myself sound like I know what I'm talking about. I suggest you don't read it.

My first draft of this post started off by defining "Demand" is exacting terms. Explaining how it is a curve, has different values at different points, and is a rate. I had graphs and examples and everything. Then I was going to explain about substitute goods. First, when comparing perfect substitutes price is the only consideration. Examples of how this applies to some CoH items like procs. Then I was going to go into non-perfect substitutes. Explain how Demand can shift based on price and quality. I had examples ready. There are many items on the market with sub-level 50s for sale and at prices below the level 50. My explanation would have been that the lower quality caused lower Demand. People simply demand these sub-50 items less. The demand has never moved, it's always been there, always been the same, and always been low. Then I ran into Luck of the Gamblers, and Numinas etc. Essentially, lower level is better in almost every way (minor difference for LotG). Except there are those items for sale on the market at sub-level 50s, and they are cheaper (not the superlow ones though). The substitute good, which is better in every way, quality/price etc. is better. Yet it's cheaper... and it's for sale. The Demand that should be there isn't there. Apparently yes, the Demand has shifted. As I thought about it more I remembered all the times I've heard "I didn't even know there was a 'For Sale" checkbox. Then I thought about all the times I've gone to the market and never cared to educate myself on the market situation and just bought whatever. Apparently yes, the Supply in this case is a quality factor to the item that drives up demand for substitute goods. Though, Roderick's examples does have many flaws that someone else will have to sort out.

Paragraph 2, good example of why in the real world if you ask 2 economists a question you get 6 different answers.

This, There is nothing like seeing to the heart of the matter.

There are entire categories of activities, that can only be done efficiently at 50. Its almost pointless to go for epic badges if you are exemplared, farming for purples would be silly, powerleveling other people ? all practically require you to be at 50.

Seeing as the farmers/powerlevelers are the people who generate the supply, the demand and the inf to pay for its really not surprising that 50 is their sale / purchase point.

You toss in the fact that if you want to buy anything off level in a reasonable time, you better be willing to dedicate a bunch of slots to the effort and be willing to wait upwards of a month or two for your goods, its really no surprise that 50 is where the activity is.

Edit: Or to put it another way, according to the last hour challenge good farmers are currently earning 40 million/hr raw inf. So for them to wait a week to save 5 million makes how much sense ?

You can actually play the game from 1-50 without enhancing at all.

My kin defender is quite welcome on task forces even though its secondary doesn't have a single enhancement slotted.

The line where "need" turns to "want" is when a character gains the ability to solo a tough EB without Shivans/Nukes, partially because this was the expectation I had in SO days, and partially because the game usually gives you a warning if you're about to enter a mission which contains an EB.

SOs and soloing. Even with this there are multiple regimes to be considered. SOs only pre ED, SOs + HOs pre ed, SOs only post ED, SOs +HOs post ED. Then there is the matter of what is a reasonable level of difficulty and death rate.

In the example above a kin defender on a team doesn't need that much to be viable. That same kin defender would need much more to be viable for solo play and be enjoyable.

I haven't tried to run solo mishes but whenever i run with my friends or a team, i rarely even get any recipes to drop at all.

I am interested in how many drops are actually dropped running mishes solo. What are the settings that Nether runs at? 0x8 or what to have a fitted toon AND 300mil doing mishes to 50? Even farming every day, it takes time to get "good" drops and to be able to do it all just on radios or contacts is hard to believe.
    Why ?

Its one instance that would not have been mentioned if it failed to support the point to be made.

And even if it were representative. You have things like this.

one, how much inf would a theoretical 'casual gamer' pile up playing the "right" way to 50- running story arcs, selling drops, no marketeering, no farming

  17. Energy has some nice opportunities for enhancement and you can pick up some very nice sets on the cheap.

A single full set of kinetic crash strategically slotted will get you 7.5% global recharge and knock back protection.

You can also slot thunderstrikes to build up ranged defense.

The question is how do you want to play him and what kind of approach have you been using to get there. Oh and lets not forget how much inf can you spend ?

I logged him in to move him around for day jobs, started doing a little marketeering (as an old school character he was ridiculously poor, so I made a few moves), decided to franken-slot his attacks as an experiment to see how cheaply I could do it, and then of course wanted to see how well they worked with my el cheapo enhancements. And although he's not what I'd call a 'strong' character, his current incarnation has been pretty fun to play.

    Which got me thinking.
Up to now I've used IO's to make already powerful characters somewhat comically more powerful, notably my fire/rad controller & the Goat, a fire/dark corrupter.

But what would happen if I applied "the good stuff" to a generally underperforming character? Could throwing money at a 'gimp' set make it a (relative) powerhouse?

    I've decided to find out.

So, assuming an unlimited budget (he's still not rich, but it won't take me long to get him there) what's the best way to make him a killing machine?

My initial instinct is to pile on the +defense and seek the legendary "soft cap" (which I know nothing about other than hearing the phrase bandied about by various power gamers and IO gurus).

Anybody have any advice, either general or specific? He's got respecs to burn and I can make him look however he needs to. Right now he's primary heavy, with only web grenade, caltrops & gun turret (unslotted, he just picked it up because I wanted to check it out) from his secondary, plus Aid Other & a heavily slotted Aid Self.

I'm looking for a place to start and a general direction to pursue.

In your supposed time flipping salvage did your set your pricing at 2 million a pop or did you set it lower and have players bid it up that high? And, if the former, are you aware that your behavior is NOT the norm for marketeering?
Actually as high as I could go without slowing my sales.

I have no idea what normal is but I have seen guides and recountings that strategically fail to mention very important and rather valuable bits of information.

You will pardon me I keep that information for myself as I am still regretting making the comment that snowballed into the rare recipe project. Solace on that is that they seem to have a very good chance of getting it wrong.
    Quote:
And how, if I am wrong about you SPECIFICALLY, does this invalidate the notion that marketeers aren't responsible because people are stupid and impatient in their market use, and thus wind up paying more?
Beats me but I haven't said that.

What I have said repeatedly is that many people don't like using the market in the game, their viewpoint and desires are no more or less valid than the people that do like using the market. Because the market is the fastest way to equip a character it creates a perception of need that it has to be used. Because this is a social game and there is a certain amount of requirement to keep up with the joneses that perception of need has a measure of reality.
