I say it's a good time to give the Praetorian side it's own Hamidon Raid.
-
I only really move around a lot on my squishies.
-
Might seem like too much of a Ghost Ship redux, but how about a pirate ship GM that also spawns ghost pirates?
-
Quote:Interesting. That certainly explains all the buildup around Odysseus appearances in recent issues."Villains, already established in the Rogue Isles, are growing a little restless under the thumb of Arachnos and so theyre starting to rebel to form their own group and if I were a name-dropping type, I might mention Captain Castillo and Odysseus actually working with you."

Another idea vis a vis a revamped Boomtown and the 5th Column; maybe they've made a permanent portal to Axis America through which they're drawing reinforcements?
-
Along with the Boomtown comments, I'll second the notion of it being an ideal place for the 5th Column to have its new HQ. Now that they're back, the Council still controls Striga and has a spot in RWZ. Meanwhile, everywhere else the 5th is thrashing the Council all over Paragon, but they are apparently vagabonds. Boomtown would be a great place to give them to settle down.

Some very good points and ideas from SlickRiptide, but I wanted to echo one thought in particular, that meshes with my own vision for an Oranbega zone:
Quote:The idea of multi-use, rather than co-op zones (and I hope you don't mind if I co-opt your term in the future, Slick! )It seems to me that a better use of a rebuilding zone with open access to smugglers and infiltrators is a multi-use zone, where heroes and villains pursue agendas that are unrelated or indirectly related to each other's activities. It should be a PvP optional zone, where PvP is driven by story or by consensual challenge rather than by a zone-wide rule or state of war.
This is how I'd ideally like to see any such zones coming down the pike; not something for villain and hero teaming, but something that exists for both groups to pursue their own agendas, with different storylines (though perhaps related/connected ones). Obviously it takes more work, but I think it would be well worth the effort.
In an ideal world, of course, we'd see some separate love for Rogues and Vigilantes as well, but one thing at a time. -
There are a couple of zones I'd like to see revamped; Brickstown (as already mentioned) would be one, and the suggestions made would be good ones. Some kind of Zig focus (and missions into the Zig) would absolutely be great.
One I haven't seen mentioned is Crey's Folly. I think this would be a good place to do a sort of Faultline-like partial rebuild. The Rikti Restructurists could be relocated there (where, of course, they'd run afoul of Traditionalist plots as they fight for dominance of the zone).
I've seen suggestions of doing some kind of Crey focused/themed issue, and doing something with Bricks and CF in that issue would certainly work. Might be overreaching, but perhaps Eden could be tied in somehow.
If we're talking brand new zones, I think- and I may hear some groans- that an Oranbega zone would be awesome. Not the cramped tunnels of the Oranbega missions- I mean a thriving underground city zone, stuffed full of Circle of Thorns.
It could easily be a co-op zone, and I could envision- aside from CoT- different groups of enemies/allies; Midnighters, Mu, Coralax- perhaps even some new versions of the latter two groups. (Actually, rather than a co-op zone, I'd rather it be a shared hero/villain zone, but with distinct contacts and missions for each side.) Oranbega could even be connected to other underground areas- such as the tunnels under the Hollows. -
If not for the fact that some of the Carnival of Vengeance are male, I'd say it's because the Knives are the only female villain group for the Talons to target.

Quote:This actually would have been pretty cool, indeed.5. Who is David Hazen?... For all I know, it could have been Father Henri who fought Mot. As a point of fact, that would have been kind of cool. It would have been a bigger reveal at any rate.
As far as Dark Astoria, my only real complaint about the new DA revamp is that the Tsoo are kind of randomly involved, and the explanation behind their involvement kind of comes from nowhere (unless I'm missing/forgetting some Tsoo stories along the way). Everything else is pretty well set up (okay, maybe not the Knives, as you point out), but the Tsoo thing doesn't really work, although I do like the idea behind them being involved (I just figured it would have something to do with their connections to ancestor spirits being why they were concerned with the god of Death.) -
If we ever get a zone revamp of Crey's Folly, I think it would be cool to have the Restructurists setting up a home there.

Quote:The Talons are definitely on a recruitment drive between what they're up to in Dark Astoria and First Ward among other things. Which seems to indicate that the Furies controlling them are getting ready to make a big move of some sort.In DA they're operating more loosely (poor writing?)...
At any rate, there are a lot of unresolved questions regarding the Furies. Where have the primal Furies been all this time? Why did they choose the Knives of Artemis to empower?
As you say, though, what is the Furies' agenda? It doesn't seem to be explicitly tied to the concept of broken oaths, although that's at least tangentially tied into things in various storylines.
I'm kind of wondering if the Furies might be somehow tied to the Coming Storm, although I'm not sure how/why/where that might be the case. Perhaps they're the next big threat to hit us after the Battalion/Coming Storm? -
Quote:I might be wrong, but doesn't it come out during Mr. G's "Personal Monster" arc that Malta was actually infiltrating Praetorian Earth before they became aware of Primal Earth? At least, there is something going on vis a vis the Maelstrom Device that it came from Praetorian Earth and was taken to Primal Earth. I guess it's possible that happened after Primal and Praetorian "first contact" though. All the backstory says is that Mother Mayhem and Tyrant initially didn't know where Maelstrom and Melee were from.
(Which kind of makes sense that Malta would have wanted to exterminate Praetoria before they could contact Primal Earth, since Praetoria- the totalitarian state ruled by the "Superman"- pretty much represents everything Malta is fighting to ensure never happens.) -
Not to mention that there are definitely people traveling into and out of Imperial City along the roadway, even if our characters are inexplicably stopped by the sonic fences.

Quote:I couldn't agree with you more. The "Shades of grey" behind Praetoria (at least the level 1-20 content) is why I enjoy Praetoria so much more than any other part of the game. As you point out, there are those issues on the Loyalist side, and you run into the same thing on the Resistance side- where you have to weigh the murky concept of "the greater good" against the lives of the individuals, and whether the group you are working for really has the best interests of the people at heart, and how far you are supposed to venture down morally ambiguous lines to ensure that. The point of Praetoria isn't whether the regime is right or wrong. The point of Praetoria is that the people behind it have become (or always were) wrong. "Rescuing" the poor deluded Praetorians and teaching them the wonders of western democracy becomes the point of the iTrials, but I think this is doing a disservice to the theme of Going Rogue and, as others have pointed out, suggest that the original idea of Going Rogue has been largely discarded at this point. Which is sad.
(And, frankly, I have always felt that a couple of those story arcs needed Morality missions more than others. It's always bugged me that Hatchet's "Fodder" mission didn't involve a morality choice, but that the character willingly sanctions cannibalism.)
Quote:Oh certainly not. And I don't really like the attempt to "humanize" Cole's regime by revealing his deal with Hamidon. I liked Tyrant better when he was just being a totalitarian jerk. Now it's revealed that everything he and Mother Mayhem have cooked up might actually be justified? I think that kinda cheapens the horror of Praetoria, and paints all resistance members as unwitting villains, which I don't think was the point at all.
That the road he felt justified in walking required him to make alliances with others of less benevolent intent is tragic, and led to even more sacrifices in the long run is just another element of the story that humanizes the plot and makes it more real, IMO.
At the same time, I also think the Resistance- to one extent or another- were villainous in certain respects, too. Again, one of the things I really enjoy about it.
That everything post-level 20 sort of throws it all away and makes it black and white is unfortunate (although I'd argue First Ward still keeps a level of that ambiguity that I like, even if I am sad that the Loyalist and Resistance arcs don't continue to play out.) -
Quote:It's something that has occurred to me, obviously, but I agree that it is one of those things that could use some clarification one way or the other. I'm also unclear currently whether Stheno is one of the Furies or not (I believe I recall seeing that she is, but I'm not positive. I'd have to go replay some of those Redside arcs again.)That's actually where my 'suspension of disbelief' has lain when it comes to seeing the Talons in Cimerora. Yes, they're seperate, but potentially the same (presuming the implied 'The Well' is the same for ALL humans- and has been supported so far) and go where the root of 'sin' exists (that being Mot and his influence, in this case). I just wanted to see if I was the only one who thought about that possibility.

Quote:I'd be very surprised if the game just leaves Praetoria hanging at the mercy of the Hamidon.No. The trials are about pre-emptively destroying Praetoria and, apparently, feeding the population to Hamidon. This may be understandable, considering we're at war (or close to, anyway), but that doesn't make it 'just'. And it's about as heroic as a private mercenary company invading a sovereign nation.
In fact, I'd be willing to bet a Praetorian Hami-Raid experience is coming down the pike (which would give Blue, Red, and Gold sides all a Hami). Don't know that they'll necessarily Incarnate it, but it's another possibility. -
Quote:Are they different Furies, though? Given that the Well of Furies is a pan-dimensional thing, and the Furies are Incarnates that are now acting against the Well due to a disagreement with its current Modus Operandi, the Furies (and their Talon servants) could certainly also be pan-dimensional. That, or the Furies are sending their servants through interdimensional portals (and through time) in order to act against the Well and its multi-dimensional interests.Keep in mind the creatures in DA are NOT from Primal Earth's Furies. Primal's Furies probably have no clue they're here. Nor would they probably be listened to if they tried to communicate with them.
Edit, which keeps me scratching my head about how they got into Primal Earth's past...
Possibly the Furies have access to one of the other 13 methods of time travel that have not yet been revealed?
(Which raises the question- where is the Furies' base of operations? Are they acting out of an Ouroboros-like pocket dimension?) -
One thing I will say, vis a vis Dark Astoria, is that the old arc "The Scroll of Tielekku" really should be "required reading" before going in there. I just happened to be playing through it last night while leveling up a character for a Beta transfer, and was surprised to see how well it meshes with everything. Surprised, because it had been so long since I'd run it, that I'd nearly forgotten how it set all of the stuff with Mot and the Banished Pantheon fit. (Slightly OT, I know, but I was just reminded of it.)

To the best of my knowledge, as of issue 22, the Praetorian status is:
Confirmed dead: Mother Mayhem and Malaise (Minds of Mayhem trial), Diabolique (Dilemma Diabolique), Sister Serene (First Ward), Shadow Hunter (for a long time)
Confirmed alive: Anti-matter and Battle Maiden, Dominatrix, Tyrant, Chimera, Black Swan
Defeated but status undetermined: Marauder (Lambda Trial), Neuron and Bobcat (Tin Mage TF), Seige and Nighstar (Behavioral Adjustment Facility)
I don't believe any of the above have been confirmed dead or alive one way or the other. The status of some of the others may or may not change once I23 comes out, and the Devs have said they know who is alive and who is just captured, but I don't think the people I listed in the "Status Undetermined" list have definitively been given a current status. I'm curious as to where Zemblanity got some of his info (in particular re: Bobcat "killed by villains" one came from- I don't recall that during the couple of Tin Mage's I've run.) -
I'd love to see costume pieces from the Lost (various tattered rags, trash chan chest piece, tv and football helmets) and the Freakshow (the cybernetic parts, chiefly).

Quote:I would imagine this is true, after all, I can't believe they would basically throw away all the incredible (and time-consuming to create) content from Praetoria just due to this iTrial, or just to throw it into Ouroboros.I PROFOUNDLY doubt they're going to delete the new zones or content from Going Rogue or our ability to roll Praetorians. I mean, we can still go to King's Row, Steel Canyon and Skyway, right?
What I expect would happen is for them to take the sort of approach they take to most level-based content, ie, assuming that it takes place chronologically in-character. Thus, you'd start your toons there, at level 20 shift to FW/Primal Earth, level to 50, go through the iTrials, do the new Tyrant trial, and at that point Praetoria is gone. From a RW perspective, it's no longer there, but toon-timeline wise it is until it isn't.
All that said, as a diehard Praetoria lover, I am very apprehensive about what I'm hearing about this trial and Praetoria (and am frustrated as heck that I can't view the preview until I get home... grr.)
