It's the same with Galaxy. Even though Galaxy being destroyed is the newest thing, everything that predates it that references it references it as if its been destroyed (or simply does not refer to it anymore).

Although, i don't get where the thinking that there's only 1 more trial in Praetoria comes from. it's a possibility? but doubtful.
I'm pretty sure it was said there was gonna be at least 1 new trial and a new slot (presumably Hybrid or Genesis), and that States was getting replaced in i23 and that it was a "large undertaking." They mentioned taking Psyche out of the DD trial as well, so I'm presuming she'll be getting replaced elsewhere as well, most likely by her young new non-Jack Emmert carbon copy, Penny (why yes, I'm slightly bitter).

As far as trial material goes, we haven't seen all of the Praetorian Vindicators. Namely Black Swan, Shadowhunter, Dominatrix (she might not show up), and Infernal. The only others left are Chimera and Tyrant, and any curve balls. Do the villain patrons have counterparts? I know Recluse and Ghost Widow are accounted for, at least.

Yeah, they usually do sales around whatever the item of the week is. When Beast Mastery went up, the Animal Pack went on sale and pet damage IO sets went up as well.

As much as I like to think they plan well in advance, maybe someone dun goofed somewhere and there'll be an emergency publish in a few hours.

Well, I think it's pretty telling that Zwill is interested in what we'd expect for a price point on a new AT. Realistically speaking, Praetoria took a ton of time to make 3 awesome looking zones that aren't relevant anymore, and we still don't have a Praetorian Epic AT. There's only Chimera and Tyrant left for incarnate trials, and we know we're getting a new trial and slot in i23, soooo...

My magic 8 ball says "looks likely" for a new AT sooner rather than later. If they wanna put it out while Praetoria is still relevant, anyway.

    For good reason nowadays.

"Darkness Control's tier 9 is so cool, it deserves its own reveal!"

Oh boy, what otherwordly horror from the netherword could possibly be in store for us?!

    It's....!!!

    ... a dog.
  8. Admittedly you lose a few valid fighting targets with the Forcefield Generators and the Seekers, and maintaining 3 Acid Mortars isn't easy, but that works as well if you're interested in trying to break the second to last map of an ITF.
  9. Whether or not it was intended internally to look like a childish action, it really really did in my eyes.

I mean, there's conspiracy levels of spite: BABs leaving and going to work at a rival studio; Galaxy City is destroyed. That was probably in the works for a long while.

Killing off Statesman as a metaphorical singular digit based gesture? Eeeh, maybe. There's some story potential there, especially considering what it brought out in Recluse. Obviously they're going to keep him on the promotional material though, he's the only thing resembling a recognizable figure PS really has right now. The understudy being Desdemona's shorts.

Killing off Psyche? Ok, so here, you start to get into "that was sort of unnecessary" territory. On one hand, you get that whole "women in refrigerators" argument, even more so considering the reasoning behind it was fairly hamfisted and poorly explained. On the other hand, you have "petty slaying of Jack's characters because he left a bad taste in the community's mouth." Backed even more so by the fact that Psyche was replaced by a character with almost the exact same powers.

Promoting Matt "Positron" Miller to the in-game position that Jack "Statesman" Emmert had after killing his character? Yeah. Yeah, that sort of seals the deal there. The final straw, so to speak. Sure, you can argue that Positron is the most suited for the role (and I'd argue BABs right back at you), and that's a sturdy "maybe". But, I can't possibly chalk this entire thing up to writing considering Citadel, a member of the surviving 8 had around 1 line in an arc about the surviving 8. And what, 2 grand total appearances? At least Synapse showed up in a mission and had some (plural) lines. Heck, even the villain patrons that were completely ignored up until the finale got an awesome treatment. I don't think I could accept the argument that it was purely done for story purposes when areas of the story are blatantly glossed over or forced just to fit in a convenient death.
  10. I do what I can to make my characters plausible within existing lore if they bother to utilize existing lore at all. You almost need to suspend your disbelief when working out a character that has assumed a role within an in-game organization as to precisely why they're so much more amazing than everyone else (see: every Arachnos Soldier/Widow ever), so I use that as a little leeway to make those characters "super." I try to be as plausible as possible when considering anything that brushes up against major characters, and always work around future cannon to ensure it's never an egregious offender. It's admittedly almost never necessary to work in major characters, but if it's done properly (ie, not being Recluse's stepsister who's also secretly Captain Mako's wife) it can add a little flavor.

As far as actual game mechanics go, I tend to follow the lead of whatever the established handwave technique might be. Mediporters are totally a thing that exists. Badges are apparently physically in spots (admittedly that's never come up). Inspirations are really sort of just that, your character being inspired. Enhancements I take with a grain of salt, for obvious reasons, and much like badges it's never actually come up. I don't see any real harm in actually finding salvage, or blueprints for a helpful device, etc. Everything can offer a good springboard, and I'd prefer to take as much into account as possible when convenient, but obviously not every last thing can work that way.

    8 MMs.
    3*8 thugs = 24.
    2*8 enforcers = 16.
    1*8 bruisers = 8.
    1*8 dark servants = 8.
    10*8 thugs from gang war = 80.
10*8 thugs from a second gang war with burnout = 80.

All together you've got 224 entities.

Add in 8 pairs of lore pets, and you're at 240.
Add in 8 Shivans from Bloody Bay, 248.
Add in 8 people using the Backup Radio temp power, and you're finally at 256, which is actually 255 not counting yourself. Of course, there are a ton of other temps you could utilize as well, but it's plausible to get there (if briefly).

What do I mean? Normally, you don't have much interaction with existing characters except when playing content designed around them. Contacts appear in their own arcs, and that's about it. You go steal some stuff for Mr. Bocor, fight some Legacy Chain, focusing on them to the exclusion of all else, then you finish, and both Bocor and Chain are forgotten. That's fine to an extent, but at some point, it makes it seem that each NPC is off in his own, entirely separate, continuity.

In the SSA, we have Luddites mentioned outside Cap au Diable, Penelope Yin making an appearance unrelated to Faultline or the Clockwork King, a villainous contact actually being villainous, and Manticore actually acting like a crazed vigilante rather than just being pointed at and called "crazed vigilante." The SSA was the first content that gave me some sense that the game world's different parts actually interacted with each other. It was the first "CoH Universe" arc.

Dark Astoria, which was presumably written up a bit later than the SSA, did the same thing, only much more impressively, so hopefully we will see a bit more of this in future "special" storylines.
All of this. So much of the universe feels really static and self contained with zero crossover, which has always been rather dull, and a lot of the new arcs are fixing that.

On an unrelated note, Captain Mako is awesome. That is all.
  13. I remember it offhandedly being mentioned that DJ Zero was an incarnate, but I guess by Prometheus' description he's an ascended one as well. Interesting.

His description seems to think so.

    Quote:
Trapped within his powered armor, AntiMatter used to be Tyrant's primary scientific consultant. He and Neuron were once the best of friends and created the Clockwork of Praetorian Earth together. Of late his theories have been more and more radical, causing Tyrant to lean on Neuron for research and analysis. Unbeknownst to anyone, AntiMatter has cracked the Portal tech. He is waiting to reveal his breakthrough in order to garner favor from Tyrant and his true love, Dominatrix.
Seems either Keyes' love interests don't make much sense. The Primal version is in love with a ghost, the Praetorian version is in love with someone despite being trapped in a suit.
  19. Isn't AM still suit-bound and literally a bunch of energy, like the Primal Keyes was before he went and asploded and got rezzed? If so, I guess that would make him pretty resistant to poison, being a bunch of energy and all.

What, you think the whole giving Positron a physical body and making his tragic condition utterly moot and giving him a ghostly girlfriend was a coincidence? This has been in the making for a while.

Well, until they introduce +recharge inspirations, it'll be my standard.

For ranged characters it usually means picking up Scorpion Shield or Ice Armor from an ancillary pool and supplementing that with Weave, Maneuvers, Combat Jumping, etc. For my /traps corruptor I could have gone softcapped to everything, but it meant sacrificing some recharge, losing perma-hasten, and giving up an aoe immobilize and a pet. So, I prefer my method in that case.
  22. The email-to-active part is intended, and was changed in the last patch. When you claim one, it gives you a pop-up telling you how it works, and you have to click OK before it goes into effect. Subsequent boosters might not give the warning, or there might be an option to not warn you about the immediate effect (similar to deleting enhancements and such).

As for the duration, that might be a bug. The warning does say 2 hours, but before the last patch, they were 1 hour. As Blue Fenix mentioned, sometimes the buff icon doesn't show up, but it would still be in effect.

Also as mentioned, there's no scenario in which an XP booster wouldn't work.
  23. When I'm making a build, it's usually just in consideration to defense. I might be able to get smashing/lethal/energy softcapped on a ranged character, and get the other numbers around 33ish percent, which is within "demi-god in 1 purple" status, and that's fine by me. It's when I'm relying on multiple inspirations to cover holes in a build that I start to rethink some of the parts of it.

Times like these I wish I had that, "don't know if stupid or trolling," picture handy.

But yeah, Stalkers have the same chance to crit that Scrappers have on Lietuneants all the time. Stalkers have a base 10% crit chance on underlings, minions, lieutenants, bosses, archvillains, etc. It goes up with teammates in range. It's an auto-crit for most single-target powers out of Hide, and a 50% chance for aoe powers out of Hide. AFAIK, they can double crit as well if the stars align and they get a Hide crit in addition to their 10-30% base chance to crit.

And, as mentioned, critical hits aren't even exclusive to Scrappers and Stalkers. Corruptors have them, and so do Controllers. Those are gated behind conditions unlike Stalkers, but they still occur with enough frequency that not factoring them in is a bit silly.

I sincerely doubt players will be able to fight Rularuu himself until a number of issues from now, once a few more incarnate abilities are under out belts. That, unlike Praetor Keyes, would be a fight worthy of a league of Incarnates.
Ah, good catch. Thought Rularuu had a goatee himself, and then I slowly realized that didn't make much sense. I'll remain an optimist though and say it could just as easily go the other way, with Wade taking over Rularuu's physical form or something like that. Not likely, but heck, it'd be an awesome finale.

For the record and as long as we're taking metaphors literally, a skull-faced Manticore would be really cool. Just sayin'.
