    CI or HP?

Thanks for the input, folks. My build is a little tight and I couldn't decide between the two powers. Obviously, I am focusing on AoE, but I wanted to see what the best ST chain was for leveling to mop up those few in large groups who survive the AoE attacks. Like EBs. I think I'll use HP. After playing with CI on a couple of other characters, I find I don't like the awkward style of CI. It sure is cool-looking, though.

    CI or HP?

    Hello again, my Scrapper friends.

I'm looking at various single target attack chain options for leveling my Elec/SD scrapper and it seems Chain Induction is invariably suggested over Havoc Punch. I can see Charged Brawl being suggested over HP, because it has better DPS, but CI recharges in more than twice the time of HP, costs more to use, and deals the same damage as HP to a single target. Does CI get suggested over HP because of the collateral damage? For a ST chain, that doesn't seem like a very good reason. Is it because CI animates a half-second faster? I can see how that would help edge it out over HP for a gapless attack chain, but is the high recharge requirement really worth it for that half-second gain?
  3. Thank you all for the tips. No, this won't be a PvP toon. It'll generally stick to two- or three-man teams for PvE play, once we finish our current project. I think Hoverblasting will be a big part of the strategy for this one.

It sounds like I should focus on either a ranged damage and buff/sticky debuff type, like a MM or Corr, or something that can mitigate KB a bit, like a Dom, to duo with this character. Any thoughts or suggestions on this?
  4. Is Energy/Cold so freakish and unloved that no one will touch it for advice?

    Well, yeah.

I was assuming having the boost from Lightning Reflexes, which I didn't list with the "bonuses from set bonuses alone" because its a power effect. I should have been more clear.

    That's a nice build. Are you sure it's 18 seconds? I'm getting ~22 seconds

Of course, Mids will say it's right, but Mids isn't perfect. I don't have Mids available right now, so this is in my head.

If my math is right, you recharge about 395 seconds of Hasten's 450 second base recharge in just 120 seconds. Without Hasten's buff, the remaining portion recharges in about 22 seconds.

Hardly significant, I know. But the difference might mean more to some people than others.

If my math is right, you'd need ~90% recharge from set bonuses alone to get Hasten perma, but with that much global recharge who needs Hasten, right?
  7. Thanks!

Mostly, I was wondering what "conventional wisdom" suggests for this combination. I was/am more interested in what to build for rather than how to build it. That'll be my little game. I'll keep your offer in mind, though, when/if I run into trouble.
  8. My vote goes for /Dark. Respectable resists to everything (so the -Def portion of the Rage crash won't suck as bad for you as it would on a Defense-based set), thematic cohesion with the water-like effects of the blueish-tinted auras, the only problem I see is that you'll probably be hurting for endurance more than other sets, at least for part of your career.

IIRC, there's a costume aura that resembles water (or possibly steam/a mist) dripping off your person available at 30. So should you choose another secondary, that can fill in at least some thematic appearance details.
  9. Is there no one with some sage advice on this powerset combination? Not even a single suggestion? Perhaps this question was simply overlooked.

    Any help would be appreciated.
  10. I'm pretty sure the +Rech proc will be limited to targets affected by Repel once every ten seconds (i.e., the toggle-proc rule). In other words, I don't think it'll ever fire in Repel because nothing is ever in its area of effect for longer than a couple of moments. The chance that something would be in the area of effect at the moment the proc checks would be infinitesimal.

Of course, I have avoided Repel on every one of my Kin characters, so maybe I'm wrong. Why don't you copy your character to the Test server and try it out?
  11. Hello again, my Corruptor friends.

I find myself in need of some advice. My wife rolled an Energy/Cold Corrupter yesterday for a concept she came up with. Problem is, it's her first Corruptor and I'm very uninformed about Energy Blast. I know a little about /Cold (I have one around the early 20s), but not enough to help her with a build.

So my questions are two: What are the most effective ways to build/play such a Corruptor? and, What would make a good character to duo with such a Corruptor?

    Thanks in advance.
  12. I've dusted off an old favorite, my DM/Elec brute, and I'm looking for build advice. I'm a bit of a purist, so I don't generally like taking a lot of pool powers, though I do recognize their value.

I'm trying to come up with a build that will produce (at least near)perma-energize and Soul Drain (since their timers are the same, achieving one will get both). I can't seem to get close enough. I figure (if my maths are right) that if I can achieve enough global recharge to reach perma-hasten I can do it. I can get about halfway there, before I start sacrificing good slotting for set bonuses, which I don't think will end well. I would post my build so far, but it is a mess right now (I'm still learning how to optimize sets).

I've currently got this brute using the fitness (for Stamina), fighting (for Tough), and leaping (for travel) pools. I'd prefer not to add additional pools unless necessary, but I'd happily change Leaping for another travel pool.

Does anyone have a good build for this?

TL;DR: I'm looking for a build to achieve Perma-hasten levels of global recharge with my DM/Elec brute without sacrificing survivability or SMASH.
  13. OK, here's my first attempt. It is only up to level 40 and there's no Purple sets in it. Any advice would be quite welcome.

  14. I'm a total clutz at invention sets. Generally, I have stuck to the generic inventions to replace my SOs in my builds and gotten the occasional proc or unique.

I've got an Electric/Fire Aura brute in the upper 30s. I'm quite happy with his damage output, but his survivability is severely dwarfed by my wife's /WP brute. Unless, of course, we're facing exclusively fire-based attacks, then we're about equal.

I want to improve his survivability. Is it possible to soft-cap this character? Is there another route that would be more effective?

    Thanks in advance.
  15. Been away for a while (about four issues, give or take). How have the new issues affected MM strategy and slotting? What set bonuses are highly-sought, and why?

My favorite MMs use /Traps, and I'm probably going to IO out my Thugs/Traps. What is the consensus on highly effective Trappers these days?

Oh, and due to newly discovered market strategies (I'm not quite ebil yet, but getting there), cost is only a minor concern. In case it matters, I don't PvP (at least, not on MMs) and I generally solo, with the occasional small team.

    Thanks in advance!
  16. Fantastic. I always struggled with making money on new characters. I hate bothering to transfer inf. from older characters and that's not even an option sometimes (such as when making the first blue- or red-side toon on a server). The markets provided me a decent source of income selling my drops, but it was always a pain trying to get enough to buy those shinies like KB protection IOs for my /fire brute.

I just tried this on a lowbie (level 12) with about 200k, and made around 500k in about ten minutes. Yes, it still works.

    Thanks, 4!
  17. I come back after being gone for a year and this thread is still on the front page. Awesome. Does /EA still suck? I see the devs added a nice heal to my /Elec. Now, THAT'S "win."
  18. I feel this is a small way of giving back to the Corrupter community. I checked and double-checked all the links, fixed a couple broken links, and updated a few formatting problems. Older guides con gray.
