Quote:This line is what is creating the perception problem in the community. Why is it some should get this privilege, and not others? Not that I know, or care, it just seems that it adds to an elitist attitude amongst those who do get in.
Closed Beta access is a privilege not a right my friend.
I was in the i12 beta, and it was horrible. I am all about a small closed if it brings about a better open test, and a faster cleaner live release. I do miss looking at stuff in the costume creator though -
My problem with closed is it generates the perception of an elitist club. I am not sure that is the case, but perception is reality in many cases. This step seems to further that appearance.
As I have said in the past, it is pretty easy to tell who gets in, because those who make 20+ posts a day, all of a sudden are only making 4 or 5 on the open boards. It seems to be the same names every time, and that dosen't help the elitist perception.
I took a few months off to start 2 business that I run from home. I didn't expect to get into closed because of that, but was looking forward to taking a gander at the creator in my free time (of which there is very little). I think a large public announcement that the creator is closed would have been a better idea. As it was, I had to dig for Bab's post on why. I am not sure why, but the Dev digest is still not listing posts correctly for me (if you know how to fix this, please PM me).
I look forward to getting in, and I hope at some point ALL of the closed testers are cycled out. I do look forward to a spot in going rogue if 60+ months is the ticket. Kinda kicking myself for not keeping my sub going those few months, but money was needed elsewhere.
Good luck to all of you who are in, and I hope we get a nice minimal bug live release because of your efforts. -
Yea, I hate it. I will admit that it may just be because it is new. I was rather fond of the old boards.

*scratches head* I found the MA ones to be kinda "meh" honestly.

I said the same thing when dual weapons was previewed, and the devs suprised me. I think they will look better when we get to use them. -
As an avid poster in the power custamasation threads over the last few years, no form of this could really disapoint me. Reading this news made me reactivate my account and plan to do so for the forseeable future.
What I can do with it is only half as exciting as what the rest of the game is going to look like. I am sure some combanations will be just as horrid as some costumes, but that is part of the excitment...for me any way.
I hope I will soon be able to add particale effects to my weapons also. This addition to the game changes it hugely.
We could get a rules system from a table top game, or a M.U.D. part of the draw to this game is the asthetics of it, this has made that part of this game leaps and bounds better than before. -

The alternate MA animations aren't looking too good in that video. The SS ones, on the other hand, look great.

I agree on the Martial arts animations, but the devs have surprised me in the past. -
Welcome. I hope a dev that trains in MA will help make the CoX MA power better (the animations that is )

Take care, and good luck. I hate to see you go. I think it is rather sad that BAB is the only red name to join with the community in saying good bye. This frightens me.
We have had a great community for the 54 months that I have been with this game. It seems that as time goes on we see less and less of Posi, and a few other names. I was not a fan of Jacks, but the boards rarely lacked comments from Statesman.
I do hope that with the close of i13, that we see more of the games leaders (other than BAB and Castle) on these boards.

I loved the look of shield. I also noticed the different fire shield. I even went backed and paused it to be sure I wasn't seeing things.

Will the old post counts be carried over? Or will we all start from 0?
-
I am soooo wanting this. those pictures are so cool! I am thinking of doing the "muscle " area in red, and gold for the armored areas, or silver. So that is has that raw muscle look!
-
I love them! Reminds me of a request I made for cyborg costumes that look like the Iron Maiden "Stranger in a Strange Land" posters.
Forgot to ask, do the Male versions look the same? -

Uh, they've never said Power Customization is undoable due to the engine. They've said that the amount of work it would take to make every single power in the game customizable is so massive that we'll never see it. I don't think building a new engine would fix that problem, as it would, again, require a butt-load of work, no?
[/ QUOTE ]
BABs recently posted a new engine wont solve the power customization problem.
The problem is the way the game itself was coded not in the way that it runs on the engine. We've already had an Engine update when we got CoV.
To give us the power customization they, to my understanding, would need to nearly completely rebuild the entire powers system and how it interacts with the AI.
As much as I want plasma stream to be able to fire pink and blue energy blasts, in my opinion FWIW the Developers have better things to do to push the game forward.
Maybe, maybe if there is a paid box expansion in a year or so, they will be given a go ahead to do power customization as part of that in the hopes of the additional stream of revenue that will come in from said paid box.
Until then, engine wont do it and they are busy with other things.
At least thats how I understand it.
YMMV

Reguardless of the work it will take, I and many others, beleive it will be needed to stay competative. -
Martial Arts Teacher
Holy Man (this one will never happen, as there are not churches.) -
MY issue is they never do east coast cons.
-
I just look foward to the income to the game. More money means more stuff. I doubt I buy one as I rarely use all my vet respecs, but it is still goot. I think 5$ would have been a better price, but what ever.

can i have my money back that i paid for cov then?? cause this is kinda a slap in the face for those of us that bought cov.
and this is pretty much the same ol promises that we've been hearing. how about doing something to prove them, how about getting these supposed 3 issues a year out for once. we've had 1 in a years time and its getting quite boring.
sorry if i seem doubtful that this announcement means anything, but so far its the same announcement that was made before. talk is cheap in this world .

Good news. Having the grant be one time only was kind of silly, making it permanent is a good move, and we can finally at least have recourse to an official "this is all one game" response to some of the complaints about X or Y side being neglected.
I'm guessing Future projects = Expansion Box.

Heheh, I said this in another thread. This is good stuff. -
How do you feel that the new player created content option will mesh with the cannon of the world? Would you consider incorporating some of them into your (CoX's) mythos if the players feel strongly about particular stories. We have seen this in the past with Troy's TF, and it seemed to be very well received.

We hope one day technology and resources will make this possible.

Remember, the East Coast needs loving, too!

Yes we do. There is always Dragon Con. -
This is great news! Thanks Devs!

What is really amazing is how well you guys did with only 15. Many of us feel that the last year has been the best year of CoX, and all with only 15 people. Good stuff.

Looks great, this will cut down on the hour or so I spend in creation... well, maybe not
