Of my names, I don't have anything that stands out to me. But a friend of mine has Ancestral, another friend has Inevitable, and my wife has Tradewind.
I guess of my names, Rough Hex is probably the best? But there are a lot of names I have that I think of as 'decent' that aren't necessarily 'great.' -
I want the hour of my life back I spent reading this.
Also, I tend to build my characters to not die when I'm playing them and there's no defender around. This means when there is a defender around, the difference between +30% def and +20% def probably isn't that big a deal. One way or another, a defender is not giving a naked character mitigation, they're layering mitigation.
In this regard, I find FF extremely lacking. It's not very exciting and a large body of its powers seem to be dedicated to keeping bad players alive the way bad healers think their powers are supposed to. Cold has tricksy stuff, interesting looking debuffs, and a freezing rain analogue, which can bask in the radiated love I have for Freezing Rain.
Look, the biggest complaints that have come up in this whole thread, repeatedly, is that cold is ugly and forcefield isn't 'as bad as that.' There's also something about Turbo having numbers cited at him/her, then no longer posting, not even a 'Oh. Huh, well, I learned something to day. Doesn't invalidate the rest of my points, though perhaps my tone was unreasonable.' kind of post which would do a lot to their credit. -
Smurfing as I understood it was related to phreaking, which was basically abusing the phone system to get free calls. It's a type of fraud-slash-piracy.

It must have been how you worded it, as I still read it as you equating blackmail and extortion to creating a "homage" character (read- obvious rip off). And since your main argument has been that the latter is "okay", thus the former must be as well (a=c, b=c, therefor a=b).
After re-reading it, I can see how you compared reporting someone with a "homage" character (read- obvious rip off) to extortion and blackmail.
While I take back my previous statement regarding your claims, I maintain that I would much rather keep my Moral Justification over yours.

It was my impression that he was saying that if he knew someone was blackmailing or extorting someone else he wouldn't report the crimes.

... Smurfing's been a term since the seventies. O.o

Maybe those power pools didn't get [censored] because they didn't need it.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Don't bother trying to punch-provoke me, without Taunt, any archetype with greater damage output can pull the agro away from you.
[/ QUOTE ]Can it [censored].
Edit: Hmm. Seems that phrase takes on a different tone when the word '[censored]' is removed. To better convey the feeling, permit this alternative: My bum they can. -
I knew this guy who believed in anecdotal evidence. Got hit by a truck.

Its called minding your own business.
[/ QUOTE ]Which is a nic way of saying 'I'm okay with people breaking the rules that we all agreed to.' It's okay, you can say it. I on the other hand, actually like this game, and have principles, so between those two I find spending a few seconds to petition something worthwhile. -
[ QUOTE ]
First off why would you even report someone who did nothing to you. Obviously mommy and daddy never told you being a tattletale is wrong unless you have been hurt in some manner.
[/ QUOTE ]The kind of person who uses the word 'tattletale' is the kind of person whose mommy and daddy said 'Get away with whatever you can.'
Some of us were raised to respect rules and principles, and to think that when a person agrees to a behaviour, they should actually do it. -

... and now I have that damn song stuck in my head.
Thanks a lot, Talen

He was also ripped on mercilessly in Twisted Toyfare Theatre, which is from whence I know him. And some Thunderbolts.

I'm annoyed that stalkers got a better version of the scrapper inherent.
[/ QUOTE ]That makes sense, what with all the stalker bragging about their fastest kill-times on pylons, killing AVs, soloing whole task forces, and how the front page is constantly comparing them to brutes. I can understand why you feel scrappers deserve more than they have. -
[ QUOTE ]
And what's wrong with sonic syphen at level 1? It's more useful then say, a buff which can't be used while solo and is meh at low levels.
[/ QUOTE ]I don't like the power. I don't spend much time at the lower levels (seriously, how hard is it to get to about 12?). Once I'm past level 12 or so, the power is quite, quite meh. -
'You stand in Luminara's shadow, and stand tall.'

One thing I feel worth noting from the OP that might have been covered, but as I understand it, and as is my experience, powers don't start recharging until they're done activating.

Have it help since after Going Rogue everyone will probably just make Corrupters.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah. Because after containment, Controllers took all our jobs away. Now Corruptors are going to do the same with their 25% more damage and 25% weaker buffs and FIRE.
[/ QUOTE ]In defence of this position, I probably will never make a defender if I can make a corruptor blueside (pending other changes, of course). The earlier access to attacks compensates for the later access to money powers, and about the only change I can see is that any /sonic I make will have to take Sonic Siphon. The rest of the gap in the buffs/debuffs doesn't make that big a difference to me.
(I don't think I'm alone in this, but I also don't think that I'm the rule.) -

And I repeat, you're looking at one instance the game cannot replicate and that could easily be excluded because the CoH game system ISN'T Champions.
I only cited Champions as a game that made it possible (possible does not equal CERTAIN) to create very different characters of equal capability.
[/ QUOTE ]While completely and utterly missing that none of the balance in the system of which you spoke is replicateable or has anything to do with the system at all. Point-based pen-and-paper systems are always unbalanced, because the jackass designers always put forward the dopey idea 'Well, there's a GM there to balance it' and that's why you have travesties like the Champs scenario you outlined.
Good freaking grief. You were doing so well. Remember what I said: Understand, consider, then propose. You are leaping to propositions without understanding or considering. -
[ QUOTE ]
(I remember making a Champions character for a laugh, who had the power to make other people intangble, 0 endurance, continuing, no concious control. The effect was that you make the Juggernaut intangible, and he can rage to his heart's content; he can't do any damage because he's not solid. Then you leave him that way. The GM nixed him, of course.)
[/ QUOTE ]I repeat. Do you even listen to yourself? -

Energy Melee gives the player "good" ST damage, "good" mitigation in the form of stuns, "poor" AoE damage, and a "good" damage type (energy is not highly resisted).
Sorry to burst your EM-Hate Bubble, but it's not a bottom-feeder.
[/ QUOTE ]
Fair enough, however don't forget this: EM has miserable AoE mitigation... AoE controls like foot stomp, fault or even hand clap can count a lot for a brute.
[/ QUOTE ]It also has two exterme damage attacks and stacking ST mitigation. It's so clearly a set that'll thrive in a small team or solo situation. -
[ QUOTE ]
Qunatify that last statement. Right now you're wrong but I want to see a better explanation as to why you're wrong.
[/ QUOTE ]What? I was making a comment about Cybernaut, who has demonstrated time and again that if it's not his pet melee class getting buffed it's not good enough, and it's okay for the things he likes to be overpowered. -
Champions did it by being wildly out of balance and having a human referee on the spot to keep the good players from completely outclassing the crap ones. It's a PEN AND PAPER GAME. It has a constant human influx of INFINITE CONTROL, which means there's no NEED for the game to be balanced the way an MMO does. You don't have two hundred thousand people playing your Champs campaign. You have like, six, maybe eight if you're totally pants-on-head retarded or have weird scheduling or something.
-
I'm sorry, scrappers need specific attention? Three new ways to kill things or avoid being killed, a zone full of things to kill, and a way to kill better... since the complaint was that power customization wasn't going to benefit scrappers much I fail to see how my point doesn't stand.
