Yeah, as I remember Freak-a-lympics in-game, those gantries were lined with guys. But the couple of times I've encountered that map in MA missions, the back room has always been completely empty. Sad, really. Great room for combat.
-
Well, the feedback forums are gone now, and their posts assimilated into the closest relevant forums. AFAIK, the MA has this forum and MA: Stories & Lore, so I figured this was most appropriate.
...Unless you are suggesting that I post this in Suggestions & Ideas, also known as the lowest pit of hell, lower even than junior high gym class. If so, I ask: what have I ever done to you? :P -
I think that the only way you can get Gears to appear is to put in a boss that spawns them when it dies. The same way that the only way to get bee swarms is to put in a Devoured.

Fabulous Idea! would the red lights simply suffuse the entire base or would you get a number of red lights that can be placed, and also would the base be filled with Klaxons?
I think that there should be a "Security alert" that comes up in the Chat window, like with giant monsters.
as to what the Mission door would be, hows about your basic shiny teleport tube, such as the classic JLA stuff. the contact could simply come up as an image on a massive screen.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, keep in mind that the simpler the implementation, the more likely that it will happen.
The simplest way I'm seeing it now is, contact is the computer, and add an SG teleport beacon just for SG MA mishes.
...But a blinking red light on the Mission Computer to alert members of new arcs would be the cherry on top. ...And would look like one too. -

Grim Riddles (#1396) - Heroic -
Thanks guys! Glad you enjoyed it.
...That's a lot of thumbs, now that I think about it, Mike... -
[ QUOTE ]
or you could just use the SG mission computer to stream QPCR!
[/ QUOTE ]
:cries: -
[ QUOTE ]
Oh, I love patrols. They add flavor to a mission. I just don't like having to kill them. I especially don't like having to double back and run all the way through a map again because it's a defeat all and some patrol slipped past me. Also, they tend to get stuck in weird places.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah, it's the combo defeat all + patrol. I should have read more carefully. I dig. -
[ QUOTE ]
Oh and if I see "Defeat All" and "Patrol" in the same description...just don't.
[/ QUOTE ]
Do patrols themselves put you off? I love patrols, and I use them all the time; I just don't ever make them required objectives. They're great ways to add more enemies to the map and not be hampered by the ambush limit, they also provide opportunites for more speech popups down the line.
I really like the way they liven up escorts-- instead of waiting for the three expected ambushes, you run into a few groups as you head back out. I much prefer that to a long run through an empty building. -
[ QUOTE ]
The raid portal would be a good replacement for the holotube, now that plots are so cheap.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not having a PvP base, that never occurred to me. Good idea. Even a special MA TP beacon might work. -
It's not so much being able to rename the group-- that's simple enough by creating a custom group and dragging standard mobs into it. I made a go-to zombies group that way.
The problem is the individual name-- what you want is Bob, Fred, Sam and Hank, but you're stuck with Vortex Cor Leonis Gunner. Or whatever. -
Yeah, the MA souvenirs are stored in a folder in your CoH directory, like your missions and custom mobs. On the other hand, it makes them very easy to dispose of, or just keep the ones you like.
-
You can make Defeat Alls non-required objectives, I think. That way it would show as an objective (as long as you gave it compass text), the obsessive can work on their Showoff badge, and the weary can skip it altogether after clicking the final glowie, or whatever. But you still run the risk of the knee-jerk reaction to "Defeat All" in the description.
My objection to Defeat Alls has been expressed here, and I think it's the biggest one everybody has: there's always that one last guy, and sometimes he's even wedged in the scenery and cannot be attacked. Or he's hiding in some nook between crates in a warehouse, and only the most diligent scouring will discover him-- horrible if it's a large warehouse.
Besides, I prefer to leave one alive, to back and tell his buddies how scary and awesome I am. -
[ QUOTE ]
Try removing and re-adding the triggers in the order they have to happen. I have read of issues where, if one of the triggers is out of sequence, the MA will throw that error.
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
What I want to happen is this: $ Destructible objects (PPD Cars) need to be destroyed first, then the Swat shows up an 3 PPD Swats Vans need to be destroyed.
[/ QUOTE ]
Going off of Clorius' correct advice, you want your objectives like so:
1. Destructible Object - PPD Cars - required mission objective
2. Destructible Object - PPD SWAT Vans - required mission objective - This object is created when Destructible Object - PPD SWAT Vans is complete.
Now you can also hang some ambushes and patrols on those events; Destructible Objects have 3 stages of damage, and each can be a trigger for an event. You can spawn an ambush to defend the object when it is at 1/2 health, for example.
But going back to what Clorius said, the important thing is that they are on your mission objectives list in the order that you want them to happen. They can work if they are out of order; it's just that they are much more likely to fail.
More on this here.
EDIT: ...aaaand it looks like y'all solved the problem while I was typing that. -
With normal game mechanics, bosses will spawn for soloers on Rugged and Invincible (middle and highest difficulties; I forget what they are called villain-side). But if you want to be certain that players encounter your boss, add him as a boss encounter. It's one of the main mission detail options, available on the second page of your mission in the MA editor.
-
[ QUOTE ]
If you create an AV at the end of your arc and the first time I've heard of him is when I see him at the end or in the nav, I won't care much about him.
If the arc is to defeat Mr. Big - make sure he is a "presence" throughout the arc.
[/ QUOTE ]
I cordially invite you to try my arcs, but particularly Check... and Mate.
One of my main goals was to create a personal animosity between the player and the villain; a poisonous relationship that grows and builds to the final confrontation. One of the more frequent (positive) comments I get is that players liked the way the villain had a tangible presence throughout the arc, even though it isn't face-to-face until the final confrontation.
Given your position on this dynamic, I'd be very interested in your opinion.

Good points on storytelling. I wholeheartedly agree. -
Poor Supergroup base Mission Computer. It sits there, looking so cool and tempting... And all it does is offer a trial that doesn't exist.
What if SG leaders could post published arcs on it, scripted by members of the SG? I can see even more of a 'GM' component, more life in bases, and something resembling the TroubAlert! (...though the MC would need a little blinking red light ...indicating new arcs! )
The contact hologram would not be necessary, as the contact image appears while talking to the Mission computer. The only thing I haven't figured out is how to implement the mission door-- a feasible, SG base-workable, replacement for the AE "holo-tube".
The thing that appeals to me the most about this idea is the concept of getting "calls for help" at your SG base-- team members gather in the base, as would be required for a TF (all in same zone), get the mission info, stock up on supplies from base storage, buff up at empowerment stations, and jet out to save the day!
Anyway, this one's been bouncing around in my head for a while, and now it's out and free. Back to scripting. -
Ha! I knew this was the right forum.

As an MST3K fan (in case the avatar wasn't a clue), I'll be sure to check it out. Looks like fun!

...It's as MST3K as I could get while only involving Dr. Forrester, who, as a contact in Grandville, I felt was safe to play around with a bit. But I also figured I'd best play it carefully, what with all the work that went into it. So you won't be seeing Jerry, Sylvia, Torgo, Jack Perkins, Gamera, Glenn Manning, or really, any of the myriad of other characters/concepts from the show. That being said, MST3K fans are automatically granted extra jokes for any one (1) play of this arc. -

Hah!
I posted a somewhat similar arc today (its a few posts down from here atm).

Heh. Isn't that always the way. When I was first working on Check... and Mate, I took a break to play a couple of quick missions and the third one I played was chess-themed. I realized then I was going to have to do something different, put a stamp on it that no one else's would likely have; that's how all the Italian stuff got worked in.
...Our similar arc's numbers are eerily similar too. OOOOoooOOOooo!
...But while the forums were down (in the middle of my writing this, actually) I played your arc, and we can both breathe sighs of relief at how different they are. We've both obviously seen a lot of the same obscure 50's sci-fi movies (hey, you ever see The Colossus of New York? Man, I love that one. Aw, we'll talk about that later...). But yeah, I was with you all the way, man.
I'll go into more detail on how cool yours was in your thread.

That said, long time no see Angry Red.

Yeah man, I've been meaning to give you guys a holler, but I didn't wanna pop in just to say "play my arcs!" "...Man, that Angry Red, he only comes around when he WANTS somethin'."
The whole MA thing makes me kinda miss working on my Freedom Force mod... which went NOWHERE, 'cuz I never got the hang of Python well enough to really get the ball rolling. How I wish FF had such an idiot proof mod interface! -
Arc Title: Invasion on Earth BX1132!
Arc ID: 98943
Creator Global/Forum Name: Global @ARH; AngryRedHerring
Suggested V/H/N: Neutral
Faction(s): Vh'kiir (Custom)
Difficulty Level: Hard , 45+ enemies
Synopsis: Dr. Forrester offers the adventure of a lifetime-- just step through his homemade transdimensional portal into an alternate timeline, where Earth is under attack by a heretofore unknown alien species!
Link to More Details or Feedback: Poster linked HERE!, feedback here
This is my second published arc, a science fiction comedy, and definitely less dark than my first arc, Check... and Mate (updated poster!). If you're a Mystery Science Theater 3000 fan, I'd like to say that I've done my best to do justice to the lonely Dr. Forrester, who 'til now has been languishing in Grandville with his hair-pulling Arachnoid arc.
I'm also very happy to finally present the alien race known as the Vh'kiir. Before, my General couldn't even have one flunky. Now he has maps filled with them. General Dra'ath salutes the MA!
This is also a very chatty arc, but if you miss something, don't worry; it's mostly flavor, and I've done my best to isolate the important (i.e., clue-dropping) NPC chat.
So, have some fun, have some laughs; I'm eager to know what you guys think, so post comments here if you like.
Invasion on Earth BX1132! It's more fun than a barrel of hairless apes! -

The error message makes no sense to me. Here's what it says:
Mission 1: The triggers are creating a circular dependency. For Example, if A triggers when B is completed and B triggers when A is completed, then neither will ever trigger.
That's not what I have set up. What I have is a destroy object that triggers a rescue ally spawn. When the rescue ally is complete, I have a boss spawn.
It's not circular. It's very linear. A starts B, and B starts C. Why isn't this working?
(Also, not sure how this would affect it, but A - the destroy object- and B - the rescue ally - are required for mission completion, but C - boss spawn - is not)
Any help would be great.

Do you have a detail triggered by a detail that comes after it in the order on your detail list? You should have the details in the order that you want them to occur, for the most part. I was banging my head on my desk back in Test over this "Circular Dependency" thing, and it turned out that my objectives-- though having all the proper triggers set-- would not function because they were out of order on the list, in terms of the way they played out.
Sometimes when you have a listed-first/happens-later objective triggered by a listed-later/happens-first objective, it goes wonky. What I've been doing is getting all the mission completion objectives, in the order that they happen, at the top of the list; then all the optional objectives after that. I've been having good luck with things spawning reliably that way as well. -

We did some data mining of our own, and 3,800 (arcs) surpasses the amount of content that we, the developers, have made for all of City of Heroes and City of Villains combined. In just one day our users did more than we could in almost five years.
[/ QUOTE ]
Incredible. That says it all for me. "New content" is no longer a problem. People are creating amazing, fascinating stuff for no other reason than they want to. Creativity soars in that surrounding, and it's all stuff that has a chance of becoming "part of the game".
I wonder how that affects the number of bells and whistles we might be seeing in the future-- new weapons, powersets, etc.-- now that the burden of creating now content has become nearly weightless. The devs have a reason to breathe easier now, and I say more power to them. Kudos all around.
...I also say, MORE OUTDOOR MAPS! -
Hurm. I posted it here 'cause I thought the I14-specific forums were going away. What's the best spot beyond that?
...Other than the bottomless pit of despair that is "Suggestions & Ideas".
