  1. I dunno either. The 'heap' strategy tends to collapse. Hence re-opening the floor to resubmissions, with Delgh's leading the pack.
  2. I wasn't making a global statement. Hence 'many' and 'some.'
  3. I intend to. I wouldn't take on level 15 outcast bosses until I had level 12 and some DOs though.

Never mind many players didnt want the changes.

    [/ QUOTE ]
A few people with exotic, generally bug exploiting builds who never played lower than 50 after they powerleveled their way there. Most people wanted the changes; most people like them.

[/ QUOTE ]Being fair, some of these people did level to 50 the hard way, indeed, no doubt many of them did. And those people jealously and pettily guarded the power they found there.
  5. That doesn't sound completely at odds with the America and Freedom Phalanx of CoX Lore I know. Go about your happy extermination, and don't forget the identical twins.
  6. I don't have a problem with the first 99% of the Rikti War. The thing is, I've fought a lot of Rikti, and I think everyone has, so a mission of punching shovelheads isn't going to be as fun for me as say, a mission of punching wyvern. I like diversity.

That said, with I15 here and me with some new lowbies to play, I'd like for any folk who are still interested in getting a review who have updated their arcs with the new tools to pipe up. Yeah, I know, super magnanimous of me to take a month or two off then demand you all dance to my tune, but [censored] it, my first three attempts to find things under the new system didn't turn up under the proper IDs.
  7. Yeah, that's entirely true, but I don't really think of it as a cute power. Build Up is part of the damage suite. Energy doesn't have it because energy doesn't need it.
  8. They're both single target.

One has high consistant damage but no damage booster.
One has build-up, attacks fast, and deals decent damage.
The damage types are so close as to be inconsequential.

For cute powers, Energy beats Electrical - PowerBoost is far more interesting (to me) than Voltaic Sentinel). Electrical's ranged attacks are a bit limp, but Energy has Power Burst and Power Push, both of which are, to hear tell, quite good.

Total Focus is the single longest-lasting mez in PVP in the game (I hope I'm recalling that correcly, but I'm sure somoene will correct me if I'm not).

Energy can have knockback and stun procs (bah), Elec can have sleep procs (bah).

I had a team wail on him for over an hour. Got him to 50k several times, then he'd hit a resist toggle (I think) and go back up to 67k or so. We survived fine. We had enough damage to get him to 25%. What a [censored] waste of time. Putting minimum DPS barriers like that at the [censored] end of a TF just pisses me off.

[/ QUOTE ]Gear checks at the end of a TF? Heh, if we're going to steal from Wow, shouldn't we steal the good ideas?
  11. My fire/fire's build was a disparate pile of [censored]. He felt like a recking ball last night when I played him. Bosses weren't inspiration fests any more.

my lowbie fire/psi doesn't [censored] his pants if he misses with a ST hold any more.

    Seems a win to me.
  12. The same reason they didn't want to fix Psychic Shockwave until the dom changes went through. Gravity has bigger problems than 'just' fixing Propel, so they needed to get doms in general to a good place before they started dicking with Propel.

I am sorry for the misunderstanding.

[/ QUOTE ]Tis entirely okay. And the thing is, I don't think I can comment too clearly on how normal people solo.

Come on here, you are just throwing up poor little defenseless fishies as arguments at this point. Give up already.

[/ QUOTE ]How do you solo?

    Explain Gravity?

*shrugs* 'Solo speed' isn't something you can really show on a chart, though. Fire offers nothing that really speeds up solo speed from what I can see - its controls aren't any more amazing than the alternatives, it lacks any real 'oh-[censored]' buttons that say, Mind does, and the pets die a lot in my experience. On the other hand, consider that I might be talking about soloing on the highest difficulty without insps (purely for example). The imps fighting +6 opponents can really change affairs. Or I could be talking about soloing without IOs. Or... etcetera. Individual experience is pretty meaningless.

For that matter, a chart is also pretty meaningless because they never really take into account real, general play experience from non-expert players. Since I have ten fifties and the typical player may or may not have one, I think I've passed the point where I can treat my own play experience as a meaningfully representative sample.

Also, I'm not so comfortable being told 'I'm surprised you're defending this point because you're otherwise not stupid.' It seems a little like you're trying to weight the argument emotively.

I'm not saying, in this situation 'Gravity is good,' nor am I saying 'Fire is bad.' I'm saying 'Both are unremarkable.'

My individual experience isn't necessarily a useful data point. Neither is yours, to be frank.

because of fire imps if nothing else.

[/ QUOTE ]*shrug* They scatter around, they don't focus fire, and they need you to control more actively to keep 'em alive. Singularity controls and doesn't do a lot of damage. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

    Explain Gravity?

I tend to not bother with the single target immobilizes - it's just not something I've felt a need for most of the time. However, when you're kiting a very rough boss on an character with bad ST controls (I think most pertinently of my ice/em blaster against vanguard sword, in this case), that the slows can buy you more distance and time to recharge.

A boss who's immobilized will not try to close. He will instead stand and shoot. However, at the same time, a boss who has melee and ranged attacks, if he thinks he can close to melee, will eschew ranged attacks to make the melee ones. You can see this most on individuals with drawn weapons (like Rikti bosses and Vanguard bosses).

My argument is that gravity's about as good as fire solo. I think Fire contributes more on a team because flashfire, in a solo environment, isn't really all that special (you can usually just char one opponent, char another, kill the third solo), while grav when you upgrade to a team environment lacks anything useful spawn-to-spawn except those same single-target strategies.

So, no, just to clarify, 'Grav has an immob so it's as good as fire solo' is not my argument.

You're right, I was thinking of the -speed elements alone. Since that's what I actually want out of it, it's cool by me.

    (Not that I have a Grav/)
  20. Bonfire is such a surreal power. Good solo, hate it on teams barring for some really corner cases.
  21. Talen Lee

    Explain Gravity?

In all seriousness, solo, gravity is pretty good. It's certainly as good as Fire for a soloist. Powers like Dimension Shift aren't a problem when you're the only person they inconvenience, much like Bonfire. I'd rate it above earth for solo, and probably just below Mind. The -recharge and -slow can be really meaningful when you're trying to layer on a rough boss.
  22. Basically, Energy is a bit more like, well, energy melee for brutes, in that it packs a lot of big heavy hits. It's good, overall, but you won't really be able to avoid the knockback powers any more. Elec can manage its burst better though build-up, Energy gets Powerboost (which I still see as overkill). Overall, /energy is pretty good.

I do have to respec my mind/energy though. He can't run the leadership toggles any more, but, more pleasantly, doesn't have to.

I'm disgusted at all these reasoned arguments pointing out obvious facts about a set that's weak. I thought we'd all agreed IT WAS FINE.

    Explain Gravity?

Alright, from the start, gravitation is a natural phenomenon by which objects with mass attract one another. In everyday life, gravitation is most commonly thought of as the agency which lends weight to objects with mass. Gravitation compels dispersed matter to coalesce, thus it accounts for the very existence of the Earth, the Sun, and most of the macroscopic objects in the universe. It is responsible for keeping the Earth and the other planets in their orbits around the Sun; for keeping the Moon in its orbit around the Earth, for the formation of tides; for convection (by which fluid flow occurs under the influence of a temperature gradient and gravity); for heating the interiors of forming stars and planets to very high temperatures; and for various other phenomena that we observe. Modern physics describes gravitation using the general theory of relativity, in which gravitation is a consequence of the curvature of spacetime which governs the motion of inertial objects. The simpler Newton's law of universal gravitation provides an excellent approximation for most calculations...

    ... Oh, wait, not that.

Well, what you first need to know is that it's fine.

Make sure the team gives you proper buffs until those towers are down. Things like Fort and shields can make a huge difference.
