I think the run away AI needs to be adjusted slightly so they don't run away quite so much, in particular even con baddies.
I think CoX AI is quite good in general and when you stop and think about it very realistic. For example in other games the instant a baddie sees you they attack. In CoH the baddies have a nice "reaction" AI where it takes them a moment to assess the situation before they attack, run away or whatever.
[/ QUOTE ]The problem is they run away a bit too much. Sure I could group with a dom or troller with an immob or whatever to stop them, but sometimes I want to solo, as do others.
One big complaint I have about scrappers and defenders that use anchors is when mobs outside run away, they tend to have almost perfect pathing AI. It makes doing contact missions a pain when I have to hunt down X number of Y mobs. I've seen +3 Freakshow bosses run from my claws/regen, or a +3 Outcast minion run from my katana/SR. With no real way to stop runners as a melee character with no real control, it gets really annoying really fast. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm not getting this behaviour from bosses...but fleeing smallfry is rather annoying, especially on my nin/nin stalker since I really want everything in melee with me. Plus chasing things down often ends up in agro from other spawns. Picking up Soaring Dragon with its knockdown helped, but even so, it's a pain.
It's not much fun.
[/ QUOTE ]Oh just last night I was on a Deathsurge team with my Ice/Cold Corr, and I was the only person on the team (that I could tell, dunno what the dom was) so my two attacks and my debuff were visibly slowing his speed and recharge to the point he ran into the water away from the area just north of the bridge in northern Cap.
Deathsurge, a GM started to run because his attacks weren't recharging as fast... it's not just limited to minions and Mook Hitmen anymore. -
[ QUOTE ]
Personally I'd LIKE the mob AI to be improved but if that happens I want it to be deliberate, not a bug the devs decide to keep. This is because players are used to the maps, the spawn points and mobs behaving a certain way. If this changes drastically then tactics will also have to change.
I think the last guy in the spawn SHOULD run like nuts. Makes it a good idea to finish off bosses and Lts earlier to keep them from fleeing. But after the guy runs a certain distance I want him counted as defeated so I don't spend 30 minutes in a kill-all hunting his [censored] down.
However, EBs and AVs should NOT run beyond the room they're encountered in! I've had missions where I spent 10 minutes chasing an EB around a Council map because the little brat wouldn't hold still and I had not Immobs/Holds to stack. Yet recently I had a great Boss fight with a Rikti Boss who was very elusive. He hopped around the room but never left the room he was in.
Spawns that said running man passes SHOULD be aggroed and head for the team. It only makes sense. However if this is the case I think the spawns should be far enough apart that this will only affect ONE additional spawn. On some maps the spawns are close together and this could lead to teams being swamped just because they got a bad draw on the map randomizer.
Foes shouldn't stand idly by as they're friends are blasted all over the place. There should be a 25-30' radius reaction from one member of a spawn and the next. If one gets ganked, the rest respond. Hide would counter part of this (make it 15' or something) so Hidden characters would see some minor benefit.
However, if the mobs begin to act smarter then the exp gains should go up or (what I would prefer) the Inf reward and drops improved. I have no problem with the baseline of the game getting harder if the rewards improve.
[/ QUOTE ]You do know that any anchor-using powers like rad infection get used on the LT because every damn moron aims for the bosses and the aoes take out the minions right? Kill the LTs last please, or else you get no AM.
Besides, I hate it when mobs run, I have/had an EM/DA brute who would have one mob left that got stunned by Bonesmasher/whatever EM power used, and they didn't just run away, it was like heavily slotted swift + spring pre-ED while stunned, you know, when you're supposed to be slow. -

not so much a "Spawn time increase" topic... but this is the closest place I could find to something applicable:
new idea for a GM:
All the GMs I know of are on the ground for ease of... something or other.
Make a GM that's up high... where there's no room to stand so only fliers can get to... then give the GM an AoE immob. MWAHAHAHA.
Now, that'd be a challange.

Edit: Forgot to mention, she brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "Plug and play". -
What confounds me is how this thread survived the purge.

First time posting on this board, and this art warrants a comment.
So, is she capable of acting as a source of power good enough for plugging in a laptop? -
I appreciate Stickies and all in the MM forum, but for a list of primaries that with very few exceptions are complete jokes and stuff that will never make it in? I hope to goodness I didn't see animal-based stuff and clowns there.

First off, wrong forum to post that kind of question in. It's not a guide so it doesn't belong, and it'll likely stay in and just collect a cesspool of some kind.
Secondly, there's a reason people go 'lolmeleepvp'. -

In my opinion (for as little as it's worth)...
The only TRUE way to 'balance' PvP is to open BOTH SETS OF Archetypes to each side and open up power sets to both sides.
That way,
* A Blaster Hero Side can duke it out with a Destroyer Villain Side.
* A Defender Hero Side can duke it out with a Defiler Villain Side.
* A Corrupter Villain Side can duke it out with a Guardian Hero Side.
* A Brute Villain Side can duke it out with a Crusader Hero Side.
* A Tanker Hero Side can duke it out with a Monolith Villain Side.
* A Dominator Villain Side can duke it out with an Overlord Hero Side.
* A Scrapper Hero Side can duke it out with a Marauder Villain Side.
* A Stalker Villain Side can duke it out with a Vigilante Hero Side.
* A Controller Hero Side can duke it out with a Minister Villain Side.
* A Mastermind Villain Side can duke it out with a Commander Hero Side.
Open Peacebringers & Warshades to Villain side.
Keep things 'even.' Keep things 'balanced.' And far less complicated than how things are balanced---or attempted to be balanced---currently.
In addition, you gain greater variability across all character types. Certainly, there will have to be changes, alterations, corrections and tweaks to specific powersets per character type. But...if I want to take a blaster or destroyer into a PvP setting to square off against its opposite, I know at the very least that those two character types are mirror-image based off one another. The difference comes into play only with (A) the powers I choose for my character; (B) how I slot my character; and (C) the tricks and skills I play with---(and the esoteric stuff of connectivity, computer processing, binds, etc).
Just my thoughts.
~ Jonathan
PS---the varying and broadening content this alone would bring to the game would be worth it.
PPS---and an additional server needs to be added---a live server that allows you to upload any character that you have on any server to this "PvP Server" (and back again as easily as you zone into the game) so that the small pvp participants on this game have a place they can all gather to finally get to do all-out PvP.
PPPS---OH!...And Epics would HAVE to be opened to Villain side and Patrons would HAVE to be opened to Hero side. He11, that's the way it should be now regardless of this PvP question.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's the best idea I've seen in a while.
Hopefully, your great post will get more attention than my mediocre one back in Issue 6.
[/ QUOTE ]No. I don't want there to be copies and all in both games, it'd be no fun for me at all anymore. What'd be the point of playing at all then? It'd be like living through Auto Assault again, and Pax can tell you that each side having access to basically the same stuff makes pvp suck even more.
You guys want to balance stuff through homogenization. If I have to pick between diverse and imbalance, or homogenized and balanced, I'll take unbalanced then. I really don't need to see any empathy defilfers or whatever calling themselves healers. -

[ QUOTE ]
Scrapper had three sons, Dark, Essar, and Reg. Of these, his favorite was Reg, and he gave him great gifts. The Children of Scrapper and the Children of Tank will often stand rigid, braced against the might of their foes. It was Reg's gift to bend to their might, but quickly recover and not break. As the thin Reed can survive the storm that fells the mighty Oak, so Reg could survive much that his siblings could not. But remember my child, it is not wise to laugh at the storm.
In his youth, Reg was given much to laughing. He would laugh to himself while meeting challenges alone that would daunt his cousins en masse. He would laugh to himself while felling the greatest foes, then come to the meeting places to brag of his deeds. While his allies in a task struggled to withstand an onslaught, Reg would laugh and run on alone to the next challange that awaited. In this was his undoing.
There was a day when Reg found himself standing with Storm and Tank's daughter Ice against a great force of Thorns. Sighting another mass of their foes standing nearby, Reg laughed and ran off to face them. He noted not the ones that, roused from their slumber, turned not on him, but his friends. Their own numbers reduced and their enemies doubled, Storm and Ice found themselves overwhelmed. Now Storm had been holding back his strength out of respect for his cousin, but now he unleased his full force. The Thorns were thus beaten back and destroyed, but not before Ice fell beneath their weight. As they waited for Ice to recover her strength, she chastised Storm saying, "I have told you before it makes my task harder when you do that!" Reg added his support to Ice saying, "Yeah! Whenever you unleash that Tornado it just brings us trouble!" Reg would have been wise to note the dark cloud that crossed his cousin's face.
From time to time, Statesman would gather his children together to have them show what deeds they could accomplish, and what challanges they could meet. As one such time approached, Storm went in secret to where the shattered Mirror of the Spider lay and gathered from it some of the Spider's webbing. He then took a lowly Skul and using the webbing fashioned a false appearance around it such that it appeared a great and fearsome monster.
As each of the Children of Statesman demonstrated for their creator their deeds great and small, Storm spoke out saying, "Oh Mighty Statesman, Scrapper's son Reg has often told us in the meeting places of the great deeds he accomplishes alone. There is a great and fearsome monster just over there. Why if half of what Reg tells us is true he should be able to fell it without aid!" Now Statesman knows that his children require challenge to thrive and grow, so Storm's claim caused him great concern. "Show us", commanded Statesman. Reg, though sure he would fail, did as he was told.
When the monster was felled in short order with little effort, Reg was too puzzled to laugh. Statesman spoke saying, "My child you have become over mighty. I must take some of your strength so that you will be challenged. I know this will pain you now, but you will thank me in the end." Reg pleaded saying, "No! There is some mistake! I cannot have done this! You are lying when you say this is why you take my strength!" Statesman face clouded and he turned to Scrapper saying, "Your son does not seem to wish to be challenged. You must teach him better."
In time Statesman learned of his mistake, and returned some of Reg's strength to him, but not all of it. Reg does not laugh as often these days. He must pay attention now to the fates of his allies. He needs their support, and this is well. Someday he may yet learn how Storm's gifts work, but that day has not yet come to pass.

No meaness taken. If you arent up to the challenge thats fine.
Oh and perhaps I should have stated....parameters for the Iron Man challenge include: No Enhancers, You are Debuffed, Enemies are buffed.
But if you think your godlike toon cant handle such a powerdown challenge, well thats fine.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes thats boring to me. My goal is the create the most powerful character without limitations. (Limitation being no temps)
I could go from 1-50 on a character with just using brawl and no enhancements. It'd be about as fun as gouging my eyes out. Flashing back to the early arcs where you lose your powers, no enhancements, debuffing yourself, and buffing enemies is on about the same scale of fun as the above in my opinion.
It also does not show skill either in my opinion. To create a metaphor, you cannot say Michael Jordan was not the best basketball player unless he could play one handed while hopping on one foot because even if he could do that a guy with both his feet and both his hands would beat him. Thus, limitations do not display a person's skill.
[/ QUOTE ]I don't want to read through all the pages and posts right now, but I don't care how many AVs or GMs you can solo as an MM without nukes or Shivans; the instant you can solo Calstyx(sp?) from that one arc where you face her in that cave where she summons her coral guardians, then I'll be impressed.
Matter of fact, try soloing her with no temp powers, go right ahead, I'll save this thread to favorites for IE and the forums. You can even PM me if you already have done it or ever pull it off.

Now that I have pondered this for the afternoon, I'm really happy and couldn't be more pleased for NCSoft --- having played or currently playing... Lineage II, Guild Wars, City of Heroes, City of Villains (and its beta), Dungeon Runners (and its beta), Tabula Rasa (and its beta)... I offer my full support (as I pay a year at a time, they know I'm locked in <ha>.

While NCSoft was indeed a player in the failure of AA, IMO ... the developer, NetDevil, was the majority player in that fiasco. They bit off more than they could chew, and weren't able to deliver on their promises. All NCSoft did was say "enough is enough - no more money, release SOMEthing so we can recoup SOME of our expenses!!"
You know what NetDevil should have done, IMNSHO?
[*] Pre-mission-design, come up with a set of rules for "X mission, with Y challenge, is worth Z experience points". Apply that to all factions equally;[*] Also, make sure that each level has at least 120% as many missions as would be needed to advance to the next level, due to XP awards;[*] Release with only TWO factions: Biomek, and Mutant;[*] Release with only levels 1-60, and no Ground Zero;[*] Make levels 61-80 a post-release TOP PRIORITY, including Ground Zero. Make sure it works RIGHT, the first bloody time.[*] Release the human faction, after 6 months or so, as a paid expansion.
The "two factions, not three" change makes the game smaller at Launch, and probably a bit less work would be needed as a result; this lets you focus more on what is still being released now.
Chopping out the top 20 levels, and the "massive PvP zone in the middle", does similar, IMO. Between the two, I think the workload (in man-hours) would go down by as much as 25%.
...
None of that matters here, mind you. NCSoft's only part in the AA debacle, IMO, was losing their patience. I see that now, having had the time to step back and look at the situation rationally.
CoX? They can't rush this game - it's already out, a fait accompli ...!
[/ QUOTE ]Yeah, it seemed like AA was rushed in the 1-40 game, slowed down at 41-60, and not sure of anything was fast beyond that point (Golthan excluded).
Still, when compared to Tabulas Rasa, Auto Assault really was like no other MMO before. It was so unique that it just didn't appeal to many (I always needed more speed boost Mark IVs however, made running right over Biomutie vehicles so much more fun in my Billings). -

Long time player, 7th time poster. Call me crazy, but when I think of Super Heroes/Villains, the last thing on my mind is what kind of 'weapon' they can wield. This is not D&D, WoW, etc. Why in Heaven would you devote a THIRD power set to SWORDS!?!? Very disappointing
[/ QUOTE ]Well, the Mace and Axe powersets for tankers are less damaging than the sword sets and more with forms of crowd control really. -
[ QUOTE ]
As much as I hate to be the one to say this, but I am very disappointed in the choice of the new powers. Before anyone goes on rampage i'll explain. Out of all the choices for new powers, Dual blades!! Come on guys! More swords that's what we needed! I am glad to see the variety of weapons coming up! They are awesome to see! Ah, poor everyone else. What am I talking about is there will be nothing but dual wielding toons out there. Correction. Toons out there that received some sort of upgrade with this issue. Why not give blasters, defender, controllers a choice of colors for their powers? That would at least separate them from each other. Listen don't get me wrong CoH, CoV, Tabula Rasa and anything NCSoft touches turns to gold! I was just hoping to see something alot differnet this time. Flashback is a great idea!
[/ QUOTE ]I'm from the Auto Assault crowd, as is Soulie, Pax, and several others. NCSoft turning everything to gold that they touch? We would like to agree to disagree on that little bit.
However, the big issue with changing particle colors for things like Fireballs, electrical blasts, and all that eye-candy is that changing the particles would lead to confusion and even bugs. I certainly don't want to face off what I perceive as a fire/fire tanker only to be a different set of powersets using changed colors or even a different particle appearence. -
The big deal is that later in the game, mobs deal significantly more damage than they do in lower levels, so making use of defiance isn't very easy. Even on heroic missions, some LTs can hit hard enough to kill you in a few hits (Namely Council archons with those nasty MA attacks and Battle Maiden groups that use Broadsword)

I'm almost at my 2 year mark for COH, and I gotta say, this probably sounds like the single best issue I've ever heard about! Of course, previous issues have gradually helped to improve the game, but weapon customization? I'm so happy I almost want to cry.. I am suprememely impressed. Way to go, devs!!

New stuff being added in, older problems still not being addressed at all. Dead horses remaining dead horses, I'd like an issue of bug fixes to be honest.
