  1. A possible idea came to me about Snipes. Mostly for Blasters though, annoyingly, taking inspiration in kind from Assassin's Focus

Using them with no Defiance damage boost present gives it its current firing animation time along with a Sniper's Shot damage proc matching the type of snipe used.

Using them with a Defiance damage boost present does superior damage with a much shorter cast time with no interupt.

So, if you're about to attack a group of Malta and want that Sapper taken down? Build Up/Aim (If Available) and Snipe for the Sniper's Shot Bonus to take them out of the fight.

If fighting a boss or elite boss or something, using them after other attacks gives you a further quick burst of damage.
  2. Will the Aura and the Costume Change Emote be available for purchase at any point? In depression-fuelled snippyness I fled from the game in December, and as such soon came to regret cancelling my sub when I realised I'd lost out on an aura and CCE.
  3. Things Zortel in her own opinion thinks could do with changes:

    Snipe Attacks for Blasters/Corruptors/Defenders/Patron Pools

Crashing Nukes for the above AT's

Regeneration: The Rez power (perhaps resetting integration/reconstruction's recharge, or providing a lingering and decreasing to 0% regen buff) ,Instant Healing (Maybe looking at the duration or recharge time), Resilience (Adding Slow Res)

HEATS: Mez protection outside of dwarf/light form, high levels of knockback, endurance cost of attack abilities.

Masterminds: High Endurance cost of attack powers, possibly boosting the attack powers to help pets (like Demon's -res, Beast's movement debuffs)

Stone Armour: Lack of being able to jump just enough to clear a very tiny ledge or floor pipe that otherwise means having to retoggle even though it'd be easy to lift a leg that high to step onto/over it

Trick Arrow: More debuffs/more powerful debuffs

Electric Blast: Something to alleviate the lack of a 'tier 3' ST blast (Power Burst/Blaze/Bitter Ice Blast et al), maybe some changes to Voltaic Sentinel (perma but attackable?)

Ice Manipulation: Ice Patch a la Ice Control power (placeable at a distance), perhaps give Shiver damage or more debuffs, rework Frozen Aura.

Energy Melee: Give Stun the Clobber/Cobra Strike Treatment and work on the damage of the other powers.

Also, tighten up the graphics on level 3.
  4. Probably Martial Arts and Imperial Dynasty costumes on sale.

But problematic. Each page displays 12 characters, so the next page we'd get would bring us to 60, the page after 72, page after that 84, page after that 96, so on and so forth.

Thank you. It's crazy when 48 slots just isn't enough, but each time a new power set comes out I get a concept for them, and sometimes get concepts for older power sets. If I'm lucky I can revamp an old, old character for a new set (Like turning my Dark/Dark Defender into a Dark/Dark Controller).

When it comes to major releases, we're going to try letting you all know they're coming a week in advance and pair that with Paragon Market sales that would be appropriate to prep for your new characters (such as the character slots being 50% off this week.) We will, of course, have items featured next week that compliment Staff Fighting.

Pfft...you kids and your round Earth!

That's really good to hear, Zwill. While not entirely related (but kind of is) can I ask if there's a chance of any more slots being made available for purchase ons servers? I'm getting close to the 48 slot limit on Union, and would -love- to give you my hard earned pounds sterling in exchange for more alts.

Sometimes problems get solved when looking to solve other problems or implement future mechanics.
  9. I'm surprised we haven't seen more little things like the Volcanic Aura in the market place. Also there's various things that I'd consider buying, but at the moment the price point is just too high, see Enhancements, character storage expansions.

Likewise. I just don't play on any other servers than Union. Other servers are strange, and alien, and full of bees.
  11. More character slots.

What with the wealth of new power sets that have come since CoH: Freedom launched, it's looking like 48 is just... well, not enough.

The thing is, I like having one account, and playing on one server. I don't like the idea of having to move characters that I might play off servers, in some cases losing them their supergroups or even their names. I like putting more money into one account rather than less into two. The fact that my secondry account is so far behind in terms of paragon rewards and purchased content compared to my primary account makes me loathe to play on it also.

If the pace of powersets is going to be like this, then I'd hope for another page or two of character slots, that I would -happily- pay for, and be fine if only VIP's could use them (as is the case with the page we got with issue 19/CoH:F).

It's no use coming out with power sets if there's a slot limit, and while I have deleted characters in the past, I can't think of any at this moment I'd want to delete due to say, their powersets not working out or disliking the concept.

12, 24, or even 36 new purchasable character slots (for a total of 60, 72 or 84) would be A: A blessing, and B: Money in Paragon Studio's pockets, not only from the purchasing of those new character slots, but from the purchasing of powersets to make those new characters with, as well as costume options.

As CoH: Freedom contnnues to grow, and I certainly hope it continues, I hope that I have the option to increase my character slots on Union to match this growth in character possibilities.

I think it's more likely to see Cold Domination for Masterminds in the next batch of Proliferation rather than Kinetics.

I thought I might as well do this right, so I fired up Mids and took a look at my options. Then I noticed that Mids said Taunt was not available until lvl 10, but I already had Taunt! And since I had yet to pick a power for lvl 8, that would mean I had taken Taunt at no later than lvl 6.

Did something change as to when Taunt became available, is Mids mistaken or did I impossibly take Taunt at lvl 6?
For Tankers secondary powersets, their tier 3 power (selectable at level 4) was Taunt, until a change that moved it to Tier 4 (level 10) instead. It may have been Issue 5 that the change happened.
  15. A good night's sleep has settled my brain. Sorry about yesterday. I blame stress, a sudden sharp shock, and having to sort through thousands of sheets of recyclable paper and confidential things that need to be shredded.

What I was commenting on (or rather, meant to be commenting on, as looking back on that I probably could have phrased my post better <.<; ) was the fact that Night_Watcher's comment was saying that's how it should be, period, end-of-discussion, for all players. It isn't the method of Roleplaying that I have an issue with, but more the application of telling others (players and the Red Names) that they should run their game that way, when they've already said and established in-game that that isn't how they're managing the timeline. If that is how you've decided to Roleplay the game, more power to you! However, don't say that's the only way to Roleplay the game.

    Again, sorry for the miscommunication on my end. ^_^;
Perfectly understandable. I can't speak for some others actions on here, but I understand it's not the only way to roleplay, and I wouldn't demand others to change how they RP. The Unionverse way probably would not work on say, Virtue, due to the greater number of roleplayers at the very least.

The style is the way it has been on Union for years, so sometimes I have trouble grasping that it doesn't happen that way or working out just -how- it works in those other ways.

    Quote:
Question...how did Union RP go about starting up in NP, meeting Maruader, when he was defeated in BAF?
For a number of people I know, game missions are something you play through and enjoy the story, take on board the information and lore conveyed within, and that's pretty much it. While I've taken Rushmore and Zortel through the Dark Astoria arcs, they've not done what's happened in the mission in character. In character, Zortel lead some searches for a missing member of the Unity Vigil in shifts, and Rushmore has been working in some of those shifts.

As for my Praetorian characters, they were in Praetoria for a few weeks to months from August 2010. Some of them may have seen Marauder about, but none of them were asked to give Cleopatra flowers and chocolates.

The game can't really provide a unique story for each character due to how MMORPGs work, so it's up to players (who chose to do so) to provide a story for their characters to prevent situations where lots of different characters claim to have all done the same thing at differing times.

'd like to point out that the term "nuked" isn't being used literally. Nobody dropped an atom bomb on the area. Cole had a a Well-powered tantrum explosion that leveled the center of Nova Praetoria, sure, but that doesn't mean there's going to be any sort of radiation or fallout.
Now that I've had more time after first finding out I know that now. Sorry for perpetuating that, it was just part of the shock nd the reaction to it.

As for the new characters coming from none nuked Praetoria and others coming from it...that sounds like a typical closed RP community issue, and thusly shouldn't be a problem.

In open RP community, you have to make adaptions to different characters.
Okay, my brain is utterly fried from a culminative 8 hours of sorting through documents at work for shredding or recycling so I know things are jumbled.

What I was talking about with those characters are what I -hoped- for them to be able to do. I -know- that will have to change now, and once the thing is on Test and we get more concrete information I can begin to get an idea. But! it's...

Huh. It's all just like what happened with Galaxy City getting destroyed. People started going 'You're all crazy for doing this, it works this way, you guys suck as roleplayers, noobs, learn to play like how we do.'

We get hit with this news, like news before it, brains get blasted, then we calm down, work out how it goes into the Unionverse, get a general consensus, and work within that.

Gah, I'm just going to throw in the towel. This never does any good, and I should learn to keep my mouth shut and fingers away from the keyboard.

I get that you and some of the other European RPers see it differently, but attempting to argue that it doesn't work that way because that's not how you play the game, when the majority of the other players and the Red Names have spelled out that it does, in fact, work that way, is a battle you have already lost (and not just in this timeline, either).
You know, I have no idea how to put across in words something that makes sense. Something that has and does make sense to the vast majority of roleplayers that have been, gone and still are on Union as part of the RP community since the server launched confounds people.

The Unionverse is a timeline of events and people. It began in March 2005 with the first Galaxy Girl meeting, called by the hero 'The Prize' to draw attention to events conspiring on Striga Island and lead a call to arms against the Council. Characters existed as beings before that point in the timeline as dictated by players. Since then, supergroups have risen, fallen and endured. Great heroes have passed, villains have committed evil deeds, and people have changed in countless ways from their interactions with other player characters and the plots created by, as well as occurances in the game world.

The Second Rikti War, the Praetorian War, the destruction of Galaxy City, and more. Including most recently, the events that transpired in Dark Astoria that took place over a 28 day period that culminated on Tuesday with a task force of heroes and villains fighting in Astoria to buy the time needed for the NPC's to bind Mot.

Just because Atlas Park's new storyarcs happen at level one does not warp time back and change seven years of the past in the Unionverse. They are recent developments. The change to the tram system does not invalidate previous in character grumbles about having to change at Skyway North to Skyway South for Talos Island.

The result is something where players, characters and stories are remembered for a long time. A fluid timeline where level 15 is the past and level 50 is the present, maybe, except when it's not, and what happens when a level 15 and a level 45 interact at a level 30 point in time? That's a tangled ball of yarn, and that's why it's been how it's been for longer than some of the devs and community people have worked for at the company and long before the servers or even the forums were united.

It just annoys me immensely when people get a sniff of this notion and think it's some abhorrent concept that must be altered and changed because hell knows what reason cited, as if a rich shared history set to a consistent timeline is a terrible thing. My brain just can't try and make things clearer though, so sorry about that.

At some point, an Issue in the game will force us to deal with it beyond steps taken already (IE: It's not happened until it is shown and referenced in more than the event/story arc/trial it occurs in) as has happened with Issue 22 and Dark Astoria referencing various storyline changes in the trials. Until then however, the Unionverse consensus is that it has not happened.

It's the price we pay for having a living and breathing player created timeline that takes into account a lot of the lore in the game and has let players leave their marks in player run plots and actions in server-wide events for seven years.
  19. I'm upset that Nova Praetoria is getting nuked. Given proximity, blastwaves, heat, radiation and fallout, Imperial City's pretty much done for, and likely a huge swathe of Neutropolis at the very least.

My characters left Praetoria always hoping to go back home one day. In Maxi Pound's case, she -liked- her job there, liked protecting people from terrorists and nutters, and her parents lived in the city. Circumstances forced her to leave with her colleague, but she always hoped she'd be able to go home at one point, when saner minds liked Marchand, Washington and Kang could help change things for the better.

Zahir Rolando has plenty of painful memories of Praetoria after the restaurant he and his partner were in was bombed by Resistance terrorists. But it also held a lot of great memories for him, and the chance to maybe make some new ones.

Constance Svanhildr deserted the IDF. She joined to fight the Devouring Earth years ago, and Primal Earth was a stupid target in her view, one that distracted them from their main fight in her opinion. So she left, but she was never disloyal to Praetoria, not in her heart. Now, yet another mistake from the past will ruin thousands of lives.

It presents a problem for the Union RP community because of how RP developed on Union from its beginning back in 2005. The IC timeline for the vast majority of roleplayers that I know, is that a day in our reality is a day in theirs. Characters have aged over the past 7 years, and we've tried our hardest to incorporate things into our characters lives as they come up.

Someone mentioned Galaxy City earlier. The difference is that Galaxy City, when the meteors hit, was destroyed. Characters were caught up in it. Some lived, some died, some were changed forever. We had a fiction thread about it, there was roleplay, new ideas were born out of it.

This presents a different problem, in that if the three Praetorian starter zones don't change, then there's quite a gulf of disconnect, especially for people new to the Unionverse. You get people coming from non-nuked Praetoria when others think it is nuked, so on and so forth.

As such, it seems like it will have to be as it is with Statesman now. Until he's no longer in IP, he's still alive. Until Nova Praetoria and other areas show the effects of Tyrant's madness, it hasn't occurred. That'll lead to problems in the long run more than likely, but that's how it'll have to be. There's no chance of the devs changing what happens in the iTrial, so we just have to deal. We already were able to thrash things out regarding Mot and the storyline updates in Dark Astoria (A large coalition of heroes and villains did interfering action on Tuesday in Astoria, to buy the NPC's time to do what they had to.)

It may seem crazy to some people, but the Unionverse has been alive and breathing for years now, with characters and player plots and incidents from seven years ago and onwards still coming up, being referenced, and having shaped out characters to how they are this day.

I apologies for the ramble, but it's been a long day that seems to have ended with a bit of a kick.
  20. I've got to say... I'm rather... not sad, but... upset rather, that Praetoria gets nuked. My characters from Praetoria always hoped to be able to go back, to help the place become more democratic and fair. And now a nuclear weapon goes off above it levelling the entire city?

Maxi Pound will have lost her family, her friends in the PPD, and others. Zahir Rolando will have fully lost the apartment that once belonged to him and his partner, before a Resistance terrorist bombing of a restaurant cost him his legs and his partner his life. Constance Svanhildr will have no IDF to go back to, to try and help rebuild and retrain.

I was always hoping the Resistance wouldn't win and get the city for themselves. But if this is the alternative...

    Dang. Major downer.
  21. Dynamic IP's are the common thing in the UK, with a static IP coming at a premium cost-wise. So I'm also someone affected by the constant need to verify my account if I log into my master account.
  22. $5 for an idle, toggled waste of bandwidth is more of a cash grab than $10 for a powerset IMO.

    Just saying.

(Oh, and you may want to consider scaling the base cost of the German Shepherd down now, seeing as it's currently a dollar twenty five more expensive for no reason other than 'it came first'.)
  23. Why is the German Shepherd pet usually 100 PP more than the Lion?

Why does the Liger, a non-mythical animal, be represented by an animal with a scorpion tail? There's plenty of mythological animals you -could- have gone with instead.

Why are Vanity Pets so expensive when you can only have one out at a time? Why are they so expensive when they do nothing other than take up server bandwidth?

Why haven't things like Enhancement Slots, Auction House Slots, Salvage Slots, Recipe Slots and so on gone on sale yet?
  24. Zortel

    Badges and RP

Get all badges, pick a nice one for a character.

Natasha Sheers, my Fire/Fire Brute reporter, has Newsgirl at hers.

Quickfrost, my Ice/Ice Blaster, has Cold Warrior.

It's just a nice thing to be able to give a character a badge title, but I'd never not get a badge just based on character purposes.
  25. From a post Zwill made in a French thread:

    Quote:
We did investigate leaving all content prior to Issue 23 localized in French, in fact this was our original plan. Unfortunately, the nature of the way the game files reference each other makes this impossible.
And gah, ninja'd by Zwill himself.

It's sad news, and something that in the past I worried about happening to the EU servers pre-merge. Here's hoping the French and German community can keep on trucking with these changes.
