Airplane pose would be hilarious. Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrreeeeeeeeeeee!!! Coming in for landing. Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrroooooooooooo!!

Haha, I agree, and to be honest I was just fishing for another pose that could be added in addition to the other one.
Something else that I think they should add is a surfing style, so you can fly on a board or (for the love of all things superhero) an ice slide. It would still be flight, but your "flypose" would be the same position used for the Prestige Power Slide. This would also provide a good venue for expanding travel power costume pieces. People could get "Flight Disk," "Tech Board," or "Elemental Boards" as recipe drops. (Surfing could also work with Super Speed come to think of it, but this topic is based on fly). -

I have had an awesome space-themed MA story arc since its creation, but it is far too hard to find a map that is "spacey" enough. So I would hope the creation of this would lead to space themed maps added there. Also, I completely agree that we need an underwater zone. Future competitors will have one, and they are always a big part of any superhero universe.
I will be checking out this moonbase topic as soon as I hit "Submit." That needs to happen. -
I have an Ice/Ice/Cold blaster, and it remains the most fun I've had on any character. You didn't post that build, so I am just going to start throwing out suggestions.
1. Do you have Hasten? I know, the glowy, fire-like animation is a pain in the butt, however it is what makes it fun to play. (I am all about themed toons, but I made that one exception so that I could enjoy my favorite character.) I don't have any IO sets on mine that give +Recharge, and I have Hasten down for maximum 20-30 seconds. And that's if I'm solo, if you have a Rad or Kin on your team with Accelerated Metabolism or Speed Boost (respectively) it will practically be permanent.
2. Manage your attack chain well. A lot of people like to start with the heavy hitters like Bitter Ice Blast. My advice, attack in this order (the following is of course after you've used your holds/sleep/immobilize/etc.): Ice Bolt, Ice Blast, Bitter Ice Blast, and by then Ice Bolt will be back up and you can use that again, launch another attack of your choice, then Ice Blast is up. If you are saying, "Well duh, of course I do that," then I'm sorry to have wasted space. It is just a good tool for providing a constant attack chain so that you don't feel like you are sitting and doing nothing.
3. Finally, I would only use the AoEs on teams. It is like someone said earlier: Throw up Ice Storm, Blizzard, and Shiver as often as you can while teamed. But solo? You have almost as much damage mitigation as a controller, and with Cold Mastery, you get Flash Freeze which is almost unfair. You put the whole mob to sleep, then take them out one by one with the single target blasts. If they wake up, you have 2 Holding blasts to keep them off of you.
If recharge is your only problem, I'd say put a regular Recharge IO in your main attacks, 3 slot Stamina to eliminate endurance problems, and 3 slot Hasten to have it up as often as possible. At that point, you should hardly notice any problems. -
I suggested it in the Suggestions forum too, but I think we could also use a couple more flyposes. I for one would love to be able to fly straight in the same position that's used when you hit the space bar to fly straight up. Maybe airplane style too, with arms out to the side? But yes, to be able to set the default flypose would be fantastic. It isn't a huge deal to have to hit that one key every time, but it would be nice to bypass it.

I have a level 23 Ice/Storm Controller that would have been Ice/Cold if it existed upon me making it. So considering I have yet to make it even halfway to 50, he is being parked and re-rolled as soon as this set comes out.
The way I see it: My Ice/Ice/Cold blaster hits the slow cap no problem, and at that point it is like blowing the seeds off a dandelion. I can only begin to fathom the controlling capabilities of the combined set. In fact, come to think of it, I am wondering now if it might be overkill. Shiver + Snow Storm probably puts you damn near the slow cap already, then add in there any other powers like Sleet or Ice Slick, leave alone the single target Infrigidate and Benumb... One things for sure, AVs will get to use each of their attacks once, and that's it. -

Only the first two few rad blasts look like light only. Most of the higher ones have cloud effects as well.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm with Veldrane on this one. Electron Haze, Neutron Bomb, and Irradiate all have more cloud-like effects, not to mention Proton Volley, Neutron Bomb, and Cosmic Burst all look a little too "bubbly" for what (it sounds like) you are thinking. I think you should stick with Energy Blast with changed colors. -
Don't quote me in any way shape or form, but I believe the reason they don't have this option is because, in order for the booster packs to be applied to your account, you have to be logged out of the game, and the in-game store requires that you be logged in to access it.

The flypose emotes are some of my favorites of the game. Fly is my favorite travel power, and I usually bind a key to a certain emote so that once I'm flying I can quickly assume the flypose I like for that character. But I think we could do with a few more.
1. I have always been a huge fan of the Iron Man / Human Torch / etc. flypose. If you don't know what that is, it is a combination of the default flying position and flypose1. You are streamlined, with your arms down/back by your sides, looking ahead. Not flying as if you were standing at attention and then took off, but arms gently to the sides, as if they were helping propel you.
-It would be compatible with Rocket Boots. Let's face it, rocket boots with the default flying position do not look right. Your feet (and thus the jets) aren't pointed the same direction!
-Combines nicely with auras for unique effects. No, I do not want to encourage Human Torch/Ironman/Marvel character imitators. However, someone in this flypose with fire armor or a fiery aura would be able to achieve very similar effects.
2. A surfing flypose. Again, I don't want to encourage Marvel wannabes. But I know a lot of ice characters who would LOVE to be able to travel with an Ice Slide. Also, this could provide a nice opportunity for a new set of travel-power-based-costume-pieces. Instead of getting Tech or Insect Wings, you could get Surfing Disk or Elemental Boards (Rock, energy, etc. styles). Hell, you could even make it work with special events. Snowboards for the Winter Event anyone?
3. Airplane/jet style. This one would be very similar to flypose3, the arms would just be straight out to the sides, perpendicular to the body. Not too different, but different enough that it might make someone's day in terms of concept.
Those are my ideas, but I'd like to open this up to not only other ideas for emotes, but other travel ideas in general (jet pack costume pieces anyone?) -

Well, "directly involved in a fight" screams melee, but it sounds like you want to avoid Tankers, Scrappers, and even "Blappers." As for the Kheldians, well... Peacebringers have some kick-butt melee moves (and that's NOT including Dwarf form). I would skip the Peacebringer if you don't like to brawl.
As for Warshades, it is possible to build a human-only or 2-form (human and Nova) character, since most Umbral Blast moves are ranged, and you can be quite deadly at later levels. But beating up large crowds or cracking hard targets alone? I'd say not until the end of your career, and with a very carefully thought-out build.
You can try a Defender, but I would say your best bet is probably Kin(or Storm)/Sonic. If you plan to do what you are talking about, you will need the a debuffing set, and Sonic blast comes with the handy -DEF debuffs with each attack, not to mention a very effective AoE sleep that makes soloing much more tolerable. But again, you are a defender, so things will be slow-going for a little while due to the lower damage output.
Personally I think you are making things harder for yourself by avoiding melee characters, since many of those powersets can be quite fun. But those are my suggestions. -
Hi all.
I searched the forums and came up with similar stories, but nothing specifically this.
I tried to combine the Spin costume change emote with the Frozen Armor (Cold Mastery for Blasters) animation. After typing in the bind and trying it the first time, it worked. I started to spin, and as I was spinning, that upwards swirl of ice enveloped me, resulting in a VERY cool looking effect. It also does this the first time that I try it after I log on. However, every subsequent time I have tried, it does the full Spin emote, then does the Frozen Armor activation animation. I am wondering if this is a simple glitch, or if there's a way to get it to do it all the time? Thanks for any input! -
It has been said time and time again, and people still disagree. To some, Electric Blast needs to be reworked, whether that means more end drain spread out amongst the rest of the powers, upping Voltaic Cell's damage output, etc. To others, Electric Blast is fine as-is, and people just need to realize that it plays differently than other powersets.
Personally, I have a foot in both parties. I enjoy playing my Elec^3 blaster now, but that's only because I have gotten past my "this-isn't-what-I-was-expecting-at-all" stage. I can't see them replacing a power in an existing powerset, so there are a couple things that could tweak the set just enough.
1. Change around the End Drain. From what I can see, NPC Enemy endurance doesn't work the same as ours, and they can use any attack provided that they have the slightest sliver of a blue bar. To modify this, perhaps make the end drain a bit stronger in some of the other powers.
--OR--
2. Up the damage output. I think this could mostly be done by making some changes to Voltaic Sentinel (although upping the numbers of Short Circuit could work as well). If Voltaic Sentinel put out more damage with each attack, OR had more than just one attack, OR had a quicker attack rate, OR could be summoned in duplicates, etc. it might be viewed as a more viable power. Note: I am not bashing VS, because I love the damage boost it gives me. But when it is slotted the same as Charged Bolts but isn't putting out the same numbers with each attack, and then has to be re-summoned every minute, it can get very tiring. A few tweaks is all it needs.
There's my 2 cents. -
I can offer no definite reason, but my speculation as to the reason would be that moves like Caltrops are a location AoE move. You are not directly affecting the enemies, merely throwing Caltrops on the ground. If the enemies happen to walk in to them, or are already in the targeted area, so be it.
My guess is it is a bug and shouldn't be possible, because the reasoning I just presented as more holes in it than Swiss cheese, but it is the best I got, haha. -

Take both, you will love them when you're mesmerized.

This. Due to the multitude of damaging powers in Fire/, not taking one of them probably wouldn't hinder you too much (with the exception of, maybe, the early levels). But like it has been said, it is the perfect attack chain filler, has some really good DPS, and can be used while held, etc. I always take the Tier 1 & 2 blasts on blasters, simply because you can use them all the time. -
Xiphoz,
Going with what you have listed, I think Scrapper is the best bet. Whether people realize it or not, they need damage dealers on a team to make mission flow smooth. Scrappers also have access to a defense secondary powerset, which makes them extremely soloable for nearly the entirety of their careers.
As for that element of "fun," I have had a lot of complaints with Scrapper powersets, but that's because I am a blaster at heart and there are a lot of flashy powers there as opposed to most of the weapon-based powersets of Scrappers. (For the record, I endorse what Chompie said about Blasters.) But for a fun looking powerset that still hits hard, I suggest Dual Blades if you want to go weapons, or Fire Melee.
Keep a dialogue with us! Let us know what is working and what isn't in your experimentation! -
For your large orange numbers, I'd say go with Ice, Fire, or Energy Primaries. It just depends on how you want to play:
-Fire is the most "Kill it before it kills you" with DoT and a good handful of AoE powers. Combos with most anything but Devices really well IMO.
-Ice hits hard, but you'll want to abuse Freeze Ray and Frost Breath to slow down your enemies. This is also a useful primary since, by level 26, you'll be able to Hold a boss. In essence, you'll probably progress a bit slower than a Fire/ for Energy/ however, your survivability (especially with Hover) will increase exponentially. Combos best with /Ice, /Mental, or /Energy IMO.
-Energy is a fast, hard hitter. I advise taking most if not all of your blasts, and in doing so you'll have nearly a non-stop attack chain, especially with Hasten. Combos great with /Energy, /Mental, or /Ice.
My last piece of advice: If you intend to Hover Blast, avoid secondaries high in Melee (i.e. Fire, Energy, and Elec). If you intend to Blapp a lot, I suggest /Fire, /Elec, or /Energy. If you want to do a bit of both, take Combat Jumping, and from there it is your choice.
Best of luck. -
Signs point to no, simply because it would probably be very similar to a lot already existing powersets/moves. My best advice would be to roll a Super Strength character and keep it to the more realistic moves (Jab, Punch, Haymaker), take the Fighting Power Pool, and some combination of Jump Kick, Air Superiority, and Flurry, and finally slot up Brawl. Those to me, due to their lack of "shiny"effects, seem like the most "brawler" like. And yes, I realize the amount of stuff you would have to give up to have it work, I am just saying that would probably be your best option.
When you consider it, Street Fighting, at least in animations, would probably be mostly Super Strength combined with a couple of Martial Arts kicks, except most likely weaker in damage output. They could balance that some way, of course (faster recharges, less endurance usage, etc.). Don't get me wrong, I am not saying "Too bad, so sad." I am simply looking at it from the Developer's standpoint. It is, of course, still a possibility for the future. -
I'd love to see Rad Blast for Blasters, along with Radiation Manipulation (which I would hope would be a combination of Radiation Emission and the Rad melee attacks of the Shivans). Dark Blast would be cool as well, but they would need to re-work it. Far too much AoE power in there for blasters to have.
All the other suggestions sound legit, except for Ice Armor and Fire Aura Stalkers. Those (along with the already present Elec Armor) really don't work with the Stalker theme. Think about it: when hidden, you would be a walking ice suit or fire humanoid. Not exactly stealthy, hard to believe the NPC enemies wouldn't notice that. -
Alright, I'm ruling out the elec/elec. Right now, I am trying to decide between Ninja Blade and Energy Melee for Primaries, and Ninjitsu and Super Reflexes as Secondaries.
Energy's damage output looks to be spectacular, while Ninja provides a bit more AoE options and possible secondary effects (buff/debuffs). I am torn there, and am wondering fi anyone who has taken either/both of these sets to the upper levels can give some input to how they play.
As for secondaries, I really like the Super Reflexes powerset, but there looks to be too many good powers, and therefore would lead to a tight build, whereas with Ninjitsu, I can see two or three powers that I could end up skipping without any hindrance to performance. Same as with the primaries, if anyone has any info to how these two play in the upper levels (specifically Super Reflexes, with its range of Auto and Toggle powers), I would love to hear about it.
Thanks for all the help so far! -
Hey all. I decided to roll a villain, and having very little experience Red Side, and after getting advice from numerous people, I have decided that the Stalker is the way to go. I have a couple of combinations I want to try, but I was just wondering if anyone had any immediate feedback on them before I spent time rolling and re-rolling each one. They are listed below:
Dual Blades / Ninjitsu
Elec Melee / Elec Armor OR Super Reflexes
Energy Melee / Super Reflexes
Any feed back is welcome, thanks! -
Y'know Brachaesnethar, I was thinking the exact thing, haha. Normally I can look through secondary power sets and say, "Well, I don't really need / won't really use that." on at least a third of the powers. Not so much the case with Ninjitsu, for the exact reason you just said, many of them aren't "just more defense." I should definitely get on Mid's and plan out a build before I even consider continuing with that specific toon.
Well, I think I've heard the arguments, and after checking out the modifications that going to made to Dominators, I am going to wait until those are live to roll one. For now, Stalker it is. Below are the combinations in which I am interested. Many of you have already commented your thoughts, and for that I thank you. If one looks better than the others, I'd like to hear so, if not, I'll roll em and play through the first few levels and see which one fits the best.
Dual Blades / Ninjitsu
Elec / Elec
Energy / Ninjitsu -
I'm amending my statement. I don't need matching powersets, I just prefer them. There are a few combinations out there that I would find wildly improbable, but I'm sure I can make a theme/backstory for most powerset combos. So no need to worry about that any more, make the suggestions you think/know will work, I can always just decide not to take the advice :P. Siolfir, thanks for that clarification, things make more sense now.
Tiny, I like Energy melee, but the 6 second recharge on Barrage baffles me. I'd be willing to give it a shot though. If I were to continue on with the Dual Blades / Ninjitsu Stalker I made, would it fare well in later levels? Ninjitsu seems like a very good secondary for stalkers. As always, I'm open to other suggestions, primary, secondary, or otherwise. -
This is all really useful information, so thank you all.
I prefer to take down my opponents fast, since I do end up spending a decent amount of time solo (whether I want to solo or not). That's probably why the only Tanker I've ever latched onto was a Shield / Super Strength, since that's a powerful attack set with few drawbacks.
I think I will eventually roll a Dominator since they do follow my playstyle fairly well, and the impending buff sounds like it will only help that, so maybe I'll just wait for that. Until then, I think I'll go Stalker, since Brutes seem too general for me right now.
So, with my choice for a Stalker nailed down, what are some suggestions? From the sounds of it, Stalkers do better with defense sets like Ninjitsu or Super Reflexes rather than Resistance-based sets like Dark Armor and Electric Armor? Is that true? And what other tips/tricks should I be aware of (besides the usuals i.e. take Assassins moves and placate as early as possible, etc.)? And just so we're not going too broad, of Dark Armor, Elec Armor, and Energy Aura, which would any of you recommend?
Finally, if anyone would strongly object to going the stalker route, I am open to hearing reason. -
StrykerX, you raise a couple of good points, specifically about finding a blaster counterpart, haha. I do, in fact, have a level 21 Rad/Rad Corruptor (my one villain) that has been somewhat enjoyable thus far.
Another thing I'm going for is playing something I can't really get on Blue Side, hence my fascination with Elec Armor/Elec Melee. The Elec Assault animations are red, which is cool since that doesn't transfer to blue side, and so I will look into that if/when making a Dominator.
Keep it coming, this is helping immensely! -
Alright, while I am still open to debates in favor of the other two archetypes, let me ask a couple Dominator-specific questions:
1. Any idea how a Plant Control/Thorny Assault would do? Those seem thematically compatible. I can come up with almost any rationalizing theme, those two just seemed interesting together. Thorns is something completely exclusive to Dominators, and seemed like it might be fun.
2. With any of the control sets, is it worth taking the single target immobilization? Or should I just go with the Hold, and get the AoE immobilization that tends to come at level 2 for most of the primaries?
