*speaks, waving a hand* How about an ancillary made out of passives and toggles, with the intention they don't cause any redraw? Tough Hide, Body Armour, Quickness and Grounded?

    (Tongue firmly in cheek)
  2. My wife, maybe, but she also hasn't gone to Comic-Con.

And yeah, when I found I had it, my team spazzed out, because, as friends of mine, they all knew I had no way of getting the code... and equally some wanted it.
  3. OP, have you considered that it's not vigilance's job to be exciting?
  4. Is there any other way to earn it?

I ask because... well, I've got it. I wasn't at Comic-Con. I didn't partake in Twitter stuff. I didn't punch in any codes on my account. But I've got it - and not just on one character, but on all of them.

It's a neat little knicknack, one I'm not really all that intent to use it. If I have it due to a gifting that I don't understand, I'd like to thank whoever did it. If I have it because it's an accident, I'd like to know too.

Anyone else found they've got it and shouldn't?
  5. I just got my level 25 defender Field Crafter, and in the process, started with 10k inf, and now have 39m inf, with no infusions of money from the outside. This is after deleting outrageous numbers of debuff and travel speed IOs, effectively flushing luck charms down the toilet.

There are a few thousand reasons they can't do any old thing they want, and they all pay their subscription. Players and player reaction influence development policy. That's why, no matter how much I'm sure Castle would love it, you're never going to log in one day and find, without word or warning or rhyme or reason or replacement, Powerboost gone. No matter how much he hates the power.

You have to recognise that there is more to the process of change than you're making out there to be. In particular, you're seeing a reordering of a powerset that is not yet live as being tantamount to asking for a swap to a powerset that is live and has been for years on two different archetypes, and you're asserting that adding to and renaming a power is the same thing as completely transforming the power.

Can you not see that this is not done out of disrespect for the goal of fixing gravity, but rather contention with your asserted methodology? The devs don't make changes quickly and easily unless they're changes that can be made quickly and easily, and your assertation that the developers need to be asked to buff Gravity seems slightly disingenuous regarding them.

I can understand in particular the developers' reluctance to pipe up on the topic of Gravity - you can see just how well their efforts to provide us with honest information and feedback over the Dominator revamp went.

I think that just after a major revamp to the dom as an entire AT is a perfectly good time to not make more changes, wait a few months and see how the numbers shake out. It's entirely possible that gravity's slack early game is a design feature, its slot-light nature for powers like Dimension Shift entirely expected and desired by newer players who prefer to focus their early game on the damage powers they have access to. I wouldn't do it, but it's not a behaviour we can easily predict, nor is it behaviour that we should disregard.

Surely, surely you can see we're not being unreasonable here? Do you have to try and demonise us with the 'grav sux' talk?

Darkest Night feels like it takes a million years to animate. You might think it's nice, but trust me, you're going to wind up hating it if even when you need it.
  8. Except they're not changing the existing armours for brutes and stalkers.

    Yet, of course.

    Irony.

Back when DarkCurrant, CzarBal, Demodand and others whose names escape me were holding up their crusade of GRAVITY IS FINE it was I who was standing up and saying that they were demonising the opposition needlessly and that I figured Gravity needed help. I argued at length with people who claimed that anyone who disliked Gravity was just powerlevelled crybabies (and this is before AE!), with people who claimed that Gravity had as good area control as Earth control, and with people who said my opinion couldn't count because I didn't have a high-level gravity control character (without any proof of that fact, either).

Now that DarkCurrent has decided that actually, no Gravity isn't fine and could do with being buffed, and I point out that his reasoning for how it can be buffed is flawed, and that people need to consider play styles other than his own, I'm now the *******. I don't like Dimension Shift either, but it's sure as hell not my place to say that the people who do like it don't matter. I don't like Snipes or Smoke or Wormhole either, but my non-standard operating parameters are not predicates for game balance. There are people out there who like Dimension Shift for its truly unique properties, and weird as the power is, it has its place. Lots of people don't want it, but okay, fine. Look into solutions that don't negatively impact them before you leap to the solutions that do.

Besides, the Bible Verse in question grates for another reason. If someone has a plank in their eye, they know how bad having a mote in yours might suck, and how, and they're pointing it out. This argument basically says 'Nobody who isn't perfect can criticize anything,' which is exceptionally retarded and yet another demonstration of why bronze-age philosophy isn't quite as applicable to sophisticated modern dialogue as it'd like to be. But it does let people who can't support their arguments offer up snide commentary written better with an illusion of authority.

In essence, what I'm saying is, if the solutions to Gravity's problems were easy, they'd have been done by now. There's more nuance to MMO changes than saying 'Just' before your suggestion and assuming it's easy.

Silly me, I gave you the benefit of the doubt.
I'm flattered that you talk about me in private. On the other hand, I'm not the one advocating changing a power just because I don't like it and to hell with the people who like it how it is... so I disagree with your assessment of myself as having a log in my eye. In fact, as my understanding of the game has developed I have become more and more aware of how what I like cannot be used to define a game for thousands of people.

    So where's the hypocrisy here?
  12. My Cry: I don't think there's anything wrong with my fire/fire tank. I'd be curious to see if a developer disagrees, and the adjustment to Electric Armour makes me even more curious. Beyond that, I disagree with both the OP's methods and premise.

    Really?
  14. You know a lot about yourself from the quality of your opposition. And honestly... this thread should be effing enshrined.

I haven't bought off RMTs, either. I don't have a character I 'purpled out' under my own steam at the moment, two of my dominators have purples, and so do two of my blasters. Of course, in their case, since they're level 50, this entailed levelling them up, during which time I didn't actually flush giant sums of money down the toilet, meaning I arrived at 50 with a fair bit of money in my pocket from just selling what dropped.

Still, ce sera. Those who can't do, whine?
  15. Okay. Origin respecs for everyone who isn't Joss Whedon. Happy?
  16. I find myself amused that pointing out that whip-armed forces do not currently represent the kind of threat gun-armed forces has apparently led to a tizzy of SCA Protectors to leap forth and uncommentingly poke my rep.

Either way, yes. Very fast things can be highly damaging, like whip tips. Then again, bullets are also pretty quick.

Still, the technology for whips - with a fixed weapon length - seems to not really be in the game. At least not in a way I'd consider aesthetically acceptable, and the knowledge it's going to be a 'fire lash' only further cements my concerns. Chances are, we're not going to see a 'whip' in that it's an object with a start and a finish and a middle, but rather an infinitely mutable length of fiery stuff.

Still, here's looking to be proven wrong. About animation, not about how it's only through governmental conspiracy that whips are kept from being used in wars in place of nuclear weapons.

  18. In this thread, DC continues his trend of 'Your opinion doesn't matter because it's not mine.'

The phrase 'drank the koolaid' has been corrupted over time - there's a second derivation for the phrase that people understand it to mean. While the Johnestown mass suicide is one of them, the other is that the initial distribution methods for LSD were somewhat confusing and some people thought it was being distributed in Kool-Aid. Therefore 'drank the koolaid' could be an alternative to 'are you high?'

To make it simple I'd just apply all those effects at the same time as the intang so that it doesn't need a psuedo pet. Althogh some powers have x delay built in, so never mind it should be possible to delay everything by 1 sec. In that case I'd add a chance for kd as well. I mean shifting dimensions would probably put you on your *** too.
And those people who use Dim shift as it currently works to phase out AVs so they can take them on one at a time... what do they do?

Only when someone's trying to use its IRL potency as justification for its application. And I wouldn't say I'm arguing.
  22. Even without the aggro cap, that policy won't work so well, because there are still target caps...

... which won't stop people from trying it.
  23. In 5 years of playing in a variety of circumstances, I think I've seen the aggro cap in action like, four times, and those were in AE missions designed to spawn massive overloads of dudes. The OP's post slants the commentary by positing the status quo as being retarded, and then proposes something that won't really do all that much to help 99% of the game, while under a title that claims this is fundamental to the nature of being a tanker.

    I'm unconvinced.

Well, if I was doing that, sure, I'd be doing something flawed. I was just pointing out the man who claimed whips are a really potent weapon IRL was wrong.

I then went on to talk about the game.

I'm sorry, I'm talking about actual combat.
