  1. Very nice!! Might try for some widescreen ones plus I know there's at least one loony out there running at 2048x1536. And you really should hide the spoiler one behind something. Don't get rid of it (it's my favorite!), just hide it behind a "ZOMG s01l3z!" link or something.

Only complaint - needed to touch on the zone invasions, if only for a second.

Nah, let'm find out for themselves.

Definitely better narration that time. I don't think Matt is going to be quitting his day job anytime soon, but this gets the job done for me. So who's next to do narration? Castle? War Witch? Whoever is the most late to the next staff meeting?
  3. That would sure be nice. Nice enough that I would be glad to help out.

I wonder if pictures or even videos would be possible? Here's Ghost Widow with PYR 0 0 0, here she is with PYR 0 0 2, here she is with PYR 0 0 -2, here's my character with 20ft long legs....

...but the whole thing would have been fifty times better if it didn't use such an overplayed song

    [/ QUOTE ]
Hehe, first time I've ever heard the song.
  5. I think the "coolification" of maps started in issue 2, actually. Outdoor maps came in with Issue 1 but only for the new missions made for 40+ level. Issue 2 got a lot of the lower level ones redone. Some were simply made outdoor (like Tanya's mission) while others were given much nicer graphics (like the last in the Revenant Hero project). More and more have been given upgrades as time has gone on.

I remember because the Revenat Hero graphics and the Molepoint graphics in the Shadow Shard still seem to be tied together. Both have vanished and re-appeared in the game a couple of times and they always do it at the same time.

Many maps are still very recognizable, though. The tech map with three elevators on the first floor jumps to mind.

Did you know.... that before the Rikit raids in beta, there was a phase where the devs would wipe (well, actually back up) all the characters and we would test how the game reacted when we all came in, built characters, and went through the tutorial at the same time. Opening-day simulation. We found out pretty fast that there weren't nearly enough Infected in the tutorial. There were so many people in there looking for them that they would never spawn!

Do you know... the story of the first Halloween test? The devs told us NOTHING about it. Aurora (?) just made a post asking folks to go to the Test server at such & such time and head to Atlas Park. Period. The event was HUGE with at least a dozen Atlas Parks going at once. So we all gathered for the big announcement - what were we supposed to do? What were we supposed to test? Was a new enemy coming to town? Some neat new gameplay enhancement? Maybe weather was finally going to come to Paragon? To paraphrase...

"What we want you to do is to run around town and click on mission doors. Click on as many as you can as fast as you can."

WHAT?!? Thousands of us giving up our gaming time just to check the "You cannot enter" message!? That has got to be THE weakest... oh well, we're here, might as well do the fragin load test.

At first the doors didn't do anything. Then somebody flipped a switch somewhere. I'm being attacked by witches and ghosts and.... oh great I got a temp power! Do I get to change enemies into toads? "You got a rock."

That was one of the best nights in the game, almost as good as the Rikti Invasion.

    EDIT:

EDIT: Zloth, the date you have in your guide for issue 3 is incorrect. It's 1/4/05 , not 1/5/05.

    [/ QUOTE ]
My guide is definitive. Reality, however, often gets it wrong. (Which is to say, I'll fix it tomorrow, thanks. )
  6. Wow this is a long thread! A couple of random corrections....

    [ QUOTE ]
Also, Fog (and Steamy Mist) used to slow the caster, but not his allies...

    [/ QUOTE ]
However, you could get around this if you had combat jump. You could hop along much faster than you could run.

    [ QUOTE ]
-- At the end of closed beta, it was requested of all the players to gather outside of the Police Dept. in Kings Row for a photograph. This screen shot later turned up in one of the guides for the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Nope. That was either first or second wave. I remember finding the pic (actually a few versions - I know Circeus had one) when I joined in beta three. After years of seeing characters all looking mostly alike in other MMOs (after all, you must have THE most uber armor), that picture was a total joy for me.

Somebody in an earlier post said that there used to be only one boat to Strigia? Is that true? I do remember being able to get to Croatoa via the two Strigia boats. (I suspect that Cryptic originally intended for that to be a way to get there. When you used a boat to get to Croatoa, it would drop you in the drink because there was no boat at the other end.)

Did you know.... that recall friend would stun the person that gets teleported? And that was when you couldn't refuse a teleport. The stun was dropped before the game went live, or very soon after.

Did you know - a topic on "videos in CoH" (which eventually became demos... kinda) was started right around when the boards launched, years before the game came out? That topic lasted through all the years of pre-beta.

Did you know... that it's high time somebody made a web page covering all this stuff? Something more than my update guide.
  7. Pah, what am I thinking!? Yeah Carmesi, that's what happens. Invisibility powers have never worked in demos. There's a command in there we think is telling the game to turn you invisible but it doesn't seem to be working.
  8. There was once, long ago. Scuzz has the best one now but it makes no attempt to track what models can use what animations.
  9. Well that's odd. I'll check it out tomorrow. I would think that would just be like any old power.
  10. For those interested, I've put version 4 of my Demo Launcher up. Just follow the signature.

Big New Feature: you can now flip a setting that will let your demos display your player's graphics effects. No more demos where your player swings an invisible sword and fires bolts from an invisible Nemesis staff!
  11. There's a better way now - setting your hidden suppressCloseFxDist to a negative number. It's in your registry settings. (For reasons unknown, the Test version reads from your production setting, so you only need to change it in one spot.)

My Demo Launcher will set this for you now. Follow the link in my sig.

I said it on Neutra's post and I will say it here. Neutra's video is something you should be promoting. . .

    [/ QUOTE ]
Can't. Uses copyrighted music. If he had made it with the CoH music then they would still have to worry about Neutra's copyrights. Yes, even if Neutra says they can use it. It just isn't worth the legal hassle.

Regarding demos asked in another post - I haven't noticed any differences in I10 demos yet. Demos are not totally broken in I9 but the no-effects-on-self bug is really annoying to work around.

But I stand to my conviction that if any institution is a catalyst for the development of leadership skills, then it's the military.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Certain types of leadership skills, yes. Other kinds, not so much. Different people and different situations require very different types of leaders. (Of course, that's not to say somebody from the military can't learn other management techniques.)
  14. That's a very good issue-level video. I'm sure they can't afford to hire a voice actor for every single issue. Past videos just had text. Though, uhhh, Lighthouse? Can you let Ex Libris take a shot at it next time?
  15. [ QUOTE ]
There are a few reservations I have...well...more than a few. Chiefly, though, my opinion is that in order to make it work...it must be reflexive learning. Given some thought and attention, MMORPGs activity could be put into an experiential learning framework.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Sounds good to me. Forcing people to play MMO's to develop leadership skills would be a sad thing. Using it as a source for tons of leadership examples with people already playing MMO games would be a winner, though. Now if only we could get the leadership trainers to play more MMO's so they can actually help point out examples....

Yep, Eltanin, you need to get with Cryptic and/or NCSoft and get a fancy and extremely expensive leadership training course together. And you better do it fast. You know those Bliz Zu's _Art of Warcraft_ books are bound to come out in a few years and take over the market.

If anybody has an idea please im desperate....

    [/ QUOTE ]
Are you? If you were, I would think you would have read the first few posts in this thread. They explain how to start a topic and what sort of info to provide. This thread is for SOLUTIONS, not problems.

    [ QUOTE ]
And when all that fails. IMMEDIATELY buy a real 3D gaming graphics-quality video card to replace it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It doesn't matter anyway because I went over and fixed it. FSAA was turned off which was causing the split screen, grainy black-and-white TV look.

    [/ QUOTE ]
!?!?!?!? So you turned anti-aliasing ON and it got better??? Are you sure you didn't, like, slip and drop a video card into the machine accidentally? Because that is extremely odd.
  18. Upgrading? Maybe, if you got your computer recently. What are your computer specs?
  19. Yeah, two minutes into playing CoH I bailed out and killed the sidebar. It wasn't playing nice and it wasn't providing anything interesting.
  20. If part of your screen isn't showing then it's likely your monitor and your PC aren't in agreement for how to display various resolutions. When your monitor is ready to display the screen, your computer has already sent the first inch.

Long term, you might want to see if you can find some drivers for your monitor. For the short term, though, change your game resolution to match your desktop resolution. (I'm presuming that you aren't getting this same problem when you aren't playing the game.)

Gunness84, yeah, I think you asked before. My only idea was that the monitor's power saving feature was kicking in when it shouldn't. Have you got that turned on? If so, turn it off and see if the problem goes away.

It could also be a hardware thing. Maybe the output for the video card isn't connected real well and it cuts out when the card gets hot? Or maybe it's the wires themselves - you might try unplugging them then plugging them back in. Both on the computer side and the monitor side, if the monitor let's you.

    Woo for cheap advertising.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Noononononono, VIRAL advertising! Ex Libris deserves a raise so please reference it by it's managementally correct name.

Hehe, Tabula Rasa is a friend and the poor thing hasn't even been born yet!

All my problems have been fixed with the Catalyst 7.5 driver. Don't ask me why, but it is true. I have never crashed once.

    [/ QUOTE ]
WHAT!? But.... but.... my nVidia 8800 is still crashing! Just once every 5 hours of play or so but I'm fairly certain it's a driver thing. Can it be? ATI drivers that are more stable than nVidia?? What's next? Will the Oakland Raiders go through a whole game without a personal foul??
