I'd disagree actually. I've gone for a long time on some of my characters before a tip dropped, about half an hour or so. I'd love to see tip storage increased to five and a slight increase in drop rates.

... I just remembered that when I bring Officer Pound over from Praetoria, she -has- to do that story arc. She's at pretty much the minimum possible height.

For me, basing on lore is fine, but when we get into actual game NPC's, things get a little bit iffy. I'm not sure if the man mentioned has family or not, it's been a long while since I've done the arc, but if I ever use an NPC, it may just be as reference in a story.
  3. I think Jan Boa and Lady Crepusculum may turn up again, among others. Last time was quite fun!
  4. Sorry about all this. I was hoping it would have been dropped last night, but sadly not. Even I got involved again with a post. Arguing on the internet? It's just too tempting at times.

It's making us look like fools though, so yeah, drop it, dropping it, dropped it.

Got issue 19 to look forwards to, what with the Incarnate Story Arc, Alpha Strike task force and so on. And then 20. And then... so on and so forth.

And maybe one day that coming storm will actually come.
  5. I like these, though I'd also like to see Archery Mastery for Blasters (Having Archery as a seconday.)

I've thought about new APP's too, and this matches what I was thinking pretty well.

Gail's Force would love Rifle Mastery (MM), same with Jan Boa for Handgun Mastery. ... Okay, and Ebon Mastery for Lady Crepusculum.

    I Am. (Story)

((Here is the first in what I hope to be a series of stories detailing my characters. One for each character, following a similar series of paragraphs of how they fight, how they act, so on. The first is one of my current favourites: Nachtbrecher.))

"Nietzsche said 'Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster.'"

The hellfire cloaked demon was flung through the air as a fist slammed into its chest. Wrapped in dark and bloody tendrils of shadow, the man dressed in black leapt forth after it. His head was surrounded by a mask of mythic steel, its features almost human but given robotic, emotionless form. Save for the glowing red eyes that burned bright with determination.

As its cohorts bounded after him on all fours, their attacker permitted a slight grin to cross his face. Leaping onto the fallen beast's chest, nether energy began to swarm around his fists. The lesser demons, driven by fury and vengeance and by little wits, all lunged at the same time into his circle of influence. The roar from the void as dark power tore them asunder was immense.

"He was right, but I am no monster. I have not crossed the threshold, stepped over the line. I have circumnavigated it."

The unteroffizier's neck snapped quietly, his body already being dragged into the shadows of the caves the Fifth Column liked to house their bases in. His hand around the man's neck, the mystic soldier drained the fleeing life energy from the corpse before simply placing it down and covering with tarp.

Sinking into the shadows, Nachtbrecher drifted through the base looking for his target. He stopped only occasionally, to drag a Columnist into the nightmares in the shadows.

"Nietzsche also said that 'when you gaze into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.'"

Ash cowered in fear as his captor approached. He'd heard rumours of the sting operations, but didn't believe them. Vampires, dream-eaters, soul-stealers all used the Internet nowadays to lure stupid victims in. He thought they were just trying to scare people off their marks.

But the girl, a pretty young teenager whose walls were clad in Twilight posters and laden with Anne Rice books, turned out to be something else. A shape-shifter that the fierce man in the steel mask called 'Hochstapler'. Flinching, Ash cried out in terror as the shadows under him erupted into a storm of writhing, blood-rune adorned tentacles. They wrapped around his neck, arms and legs. Tiny tendrils even worked into his eyes to hold them open as the man removed his helmet.

Underneath, he looked old. His hair long and white. His beard the same colour, carefully trimmed. His skin pale, and his eyes soft. As he gazed into the man's dark pupils, he felt a shudder running through his body. His teeth pressing forth from the tops of his gums, his 'suckers' on his hand clenching and opening, hungry for life. The man smiled at him.

"You may have killed others. You may have not. You had the chance for help, and you declined. Let instinct and base desires take over. For this, I can only grant you one thing." His voice was soft as his eyes, with just the hint of a German accent.

Whatever Ash blurted out, he couldn't remember or comprehend it.

Placing his hands on Ash's chest, he bowed his head politely. "Absolution." He spoke, and with the word his fists clenched. Shadowy arms started to strike into Ash's body, the damage physical and spiritual as the tendrils started their work of casting him back to the void.

"When I gaze into the abyss? The abyss blinks."

Standing with the other members of his unit, he looked over the ruins of the Schwardwald Geistliniekannone. The complex still existed, its components rusting away, greatly beyond repair after his defeat during World War Two. Carefully he placed down the selection of flowers, commemorating the men he had killed, the men who had died for him, and the Allies of Earth. Heroes from 8 countries, come together to stop his plan. Their actions instigated his path to redemption, and his work with the US Government fighting monsters and threats to world peace.

    "Danke."

With that word, they were whisked back to their Paragon City office.

"I am Wernher Alstom. I am Nachtbrecher."
  8. I've found the jump height issue should be resolvable by just giving space a half tap instead of a full tap, and you gain the advantage of being able to fall a bit longer without taking damage.

I find that they're more likely to stay within their gender, with one or two token males if they've been playing the game long enough. Obviously, there are exceptions. I'm friends with one woman whose main characters are male (though she does play both genders). But I find it more unusual and unique to meet women who play male characters than vice versa. I find it especially rare to meet females who play only males.
Female, even split here. Another female friend plays females most of the time, with only a few male NPC's. Another played a mix of genders on this game, but plays mostly males on another, with just a few NPC's that are female. Another has a mix, but mostly plays on just one male character. I've found character gender decisions go all over the place with girls too.
  10. Option 1 EXCEPT in the cases such as where the Ultra Mode update left some costume parts that were fine before, clashing with other costume parts that had been mixed and matched. Then the alternative should be offered.

So kind of an Option 1.5, as you will.

    ALSO!

I'd love to see more matching costume pieces for the older ones, I know that some are missing boot/glove options, but names elude me at the moment.
  11. Number of levelling characters (Not RP NPC's)

    Female: 17
    Male: 17

Most Popular Female Character AT: Mastermind (5)
Most Popular Male Character AT: Scrapper (6)

Least Popular Female Character AT: Defender + Controller (1 each)
Least Popular Male Character AT: Defender, Corruptor, + Controller (1 of each)

I'm not sure if it's gender bias in the most popular AT's or not. A fair few are female as it's simply what the character calls for, especially in the case of my Mercs/Storms MM, Gail's Force. The pun, the wordplay!

Thing is though, value increases over time based on rarity and demand.

The first appearance of Superman in comics is rare because no one knew they'd catch on, and they were just comics, a lot were probably thrown away. Hence, it's rare.

Now compare to the nineties where issue 1 comics were put out in the dozens with variant covers and gimmicks and so on, and that more people collect comics now, they're going to be less rare, and thus less valuable.

And who cares about Generic Image Comic Hero compared to say, Superman?

Now it could be a case of rose tinted spectacles having created LN way back in i3 (shortly before i4) whenever I play her I'm reminded of how good regen once was, or maybe it's just that there are so many better secondaries now.

I had a BS/regen created around an issue prior to CoV (i5?) who I loved up until her mid 30s and played until her mid forties. She's now level 7 and stalled but with a different 2ndary. Again I loved her back story (about 8 pages of A4), I loved her look and name but hated regen.

As for anything else, loathe VEATs, dislike HEATs and can't seem to get anywhere with tankers.
I never got to taste the toggle that was Instant Healing. It may be one of my CoH regrets. But now with Spines/Regen, I just end up thinking "Oh hell I'm taking damage and Reconstruction isn't recharged kick in healing, kick in healing." At lower levels, and even later on Intergration doesn't feel like it's added much for combat regen.

As the Open Season plot is coming to its climax, it doesn't hurt to discuss and plan something for the future. Sounds like Zortel has something in mind?
It really depends on what happens in Issue 19 and 20.

There's been rumours about Rulaaru and the threat of the Praetorian Invasion. Either one of them would have super groups reacting, which would present the natural opportunity for supergroups to co-ordinate their efforts with others, like with the Rikti War Council, but different. I'm not sure of the how's, why's or where's, but it's just something to keep in mind.

If X comes to fight, then the UV at least will react. I'm sure the Militia will as well, and The Corporation, and every other SG/VG out there.

What comes from that comes down to initiative, what fits, and working with what is given to us in the invasions/attacks.

I'm not sure I'd want to Colony Drop Unity Station. It's gorgeous inside.
  17. Someone else said earlier something that resonated with me, and then just again a little while ago someone else said it.

American comics can go on for too long, with too many different writers, too many changes and yet not enough change, as people change things back to the old way then change them to their new way, and then the next writer does the same.

That's why I have Vaughan's Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina and his run on Runaways. The first two have a start and a finish. They aren't going to run crossovers in other titles I have no interest in getting, they're all being published and then put into trade paperback, and that's that.

The Authority, for me, went downhill when it changed writers from Ellis. Luckly, there's Planetary and Global Frequency.

I loved District X, a Marvel title about a beat cop in a mutant ghetto in New York. Your simple beat cop stuff with a mutant twist and some personal drama. House of M came and obliterated the storyline.

Academy X, about a group of teenagers learning to control their gift at the Xavier school? House of M again. Changed into New X-Men, killed a ton of characters off.

Normally now, the only way I can stomach the mainstream heroes is either in a cartoon series (The excellent DC Animated Universe for example, which in my mind is so much better than the DC comic Universe) and the films. (Like Iron Man, for instance.)
  18. You know, with a Praetorian threat on the horizon, it's likely there will be something to grow naturally out of that, and I'd rather something was grown naturally than forced.
  19. I forgot my HEATS.

Got my Peacebringer to 30, and just...

Human form, found shields too weak and blasts too weak for the endurance costs I was using on them, and didn't like hiding my costumes in forms (And it just didn't seem right for his character)

Looking at my slotting was a pain too.

My Warshade, I loved Stygian Circle. Greatest move in the game. Would love something like that (And the Eclipse power I've seen friends using) on my Dark Scrapper but the power to endurance cost from above still holds true.

Oh, lack of Mez Protection in human form also.

I had an AR/Dev that I liked the concept of, but hated the sets. (Seriously, just give Targetting Drone a +Damage component to more than Snipe.)

    Agreed.

Japanese mangaka and animation studios didn't give us House of M, One More Day or Civil War.

    Joe Q did.

Some of the anime I've seen has had much better production values, storylines and characters than some of the ones aimed at children, when young and today. It doesn't have to be a case of one or the other. On my bookshelf I have, just in view:

Runaways (Marvel, Brian K. Vaughan), Ex Machina (Another Brian K. Vaughan Book), Y: The Last Man (... Uh, another Brian K. Vaughan book, he's a good guy!)

I also have Last Fantasy, (Tokyopop, a book all about lambasting the tropes of JRPG games), 3 Best New Manga books, 2 Rising Stars of UK Manga books, Escaflowne, and some of the Warcraft Legends books.

On DVD I have western animation from Justice League, Batman Beyond, Batman: The Animated Series and Avatar: The Last Airbender, to Gundam Wing (Which is chock full of politics and talking), Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star and Sailor Moon (Don't laugh. :P )

As for why people might be watching anime online instead of buying comic books, comic books are a pretty penny. Especially to by issue by issue. I tend to pick up Trade Paperbacks because it gives me more bang for my buck. Also, proximity to comic book stores may be an issue. I tend to only really pick up books if:

I've seen them in the only comic book store I go into and like what I see (That'd be Mega City Comics in Camden, London, about 200 miles from where I am) or online, if I've seen examples and liked what I've seen.

The 'classic' art styles in comics started changing long before the influence of Japanese art styles (Which was influenced by Disney IIRC) in my opinion, And I appreciate the crisp lines and digital colouring of today's work (In addition to the awesome black and white line art of The Walking Dead) more than the grainy, and sometimes shoddy style from some marvel kung fu comics my brother had from the 70's.

My DP/Devices blaster was a DP/Traps corruptor during beta. Thinking of rerolling him just to get there again. It was a bit more monotonous, but at least it survived. x_x
I find I generally like blasters, my first 50 is an Energy/Energy one, where I have the knockback from Power Push/Power Thrust to keep enemies off my back. My level 45 Fire/Fire Blaster just puts out so much damage that at the level I play him at most enemies don't last long enough to do damage. My level 40 Elec/Elec has a nice couple of holds that keeps enemies off my back, and soon to gain a third. My level 31 Ice/Ice has one great hold, not so fond of Bitter Freeze Ray, and his attacks are generally quite damaging.

DP/Mental and Psi/Mental on the other hand I've found to really be quite the bother.

Got a Rad/En at about level 8 in Praetoria I need to play more.

I find my Spines/Regen a little lacking, generally because I'm mostly relying on passive Regen and Reconstruction, which recharges just a little too slow for my liking compared to Fire's Healing Flames. Also, Barb Swipe needs some work to me.
  22. After a particularly fun mission of deaths and sheer, unenjoyable pain, I've come to the conclusion that as much as I love my Dual Pistols/Mental Manipulation Blaster, Fear Trigger?

The way she plays really sets my teeth on edge.

I love the costume, I love the concept and the powers behind the concept, but the powers themselves I just hate. I personally find Dual Pistols to be poor in damage and secondary effects, long in animation time and rooting, and Mental Manipulation I've never seemed to get along with. (Same with Psi Blast on a blaster, actually, which is why my Psi/Mental got deleted.)

I don't -want- to delete her. I want to enjoy playing her, but I just seem unable to.

What characters might you happen to have that you love, yet hate?
  23. The One, the Only, Triple J.

From the original Spider-man cartoon, 10 minutes of JJJ ranting, raving, and generally being the ranting man we all love. Well, I certainly do.

I now kind of miss not seeing this cartoon when I was growing up. :<
