Quote:I would pick the girl on the left because she would most likely be a better physical fighter due to her confidence, height, and superior fitness & muscle mass.Look at it this way -- You find yourself surrounded by ten Circle of Thorns, seconds from having a huge fragging thorn plunged into your heart. Which of these two heroines inspires the most confidence in you from the standpoint of appearing like someone you can rely on to rescue you?
I know which one I'd pick, if I was using the head on my shoulders.
Plus If i'm about to die of a broken heart...she looks like she might be able to fix it. -
They're pretty much just generic heroes that are supposed to represent the players. I always thought the guy in the background was BugBite though

Servers are down for weekly maintenance I think.

Quote:Then why do so many videos/comics/games without Iceman have ice powered heroes using it?The problem with an ice slide is that it's intimately and definititively linked to Iceman.
Ice slide is intimately and definitively linked to ice powers. Not ice man. Any case against Ice Slide being in this game would be a case also against ice powers of any kind. -
I see what you're doing. It's working.

Quote:You can still find her in Ouboros chatting to a Mendor.I sincerely hope we do not lose Flower Knight with the tutorial revamp. I can't tell you how many times I've helped/been helped by Flower Knight. A countless and countless parade of characters, half or more of whom never graduated beyond the teens in security levels before "retiring" (the "create character" and "delete character" buttons get a lot of workout on my account). Her costume is really simple and comprised of all player items, but it's still memorable even so. I also liked her character description, which I would love to see expanded, and to see Flower Knight again in other stories, to show she has also been working to increase her security clearance as well.

Not gonna post up what villain/hero groups I like because you asked for signature characters. In no particular order:
Requiem: This guy is awesome. He's your typical nazi supervillain. Complete with uniform, soldiers at his command and a FLAMING HEAD! All of the Fifth Column/Council villains are bloody awesome as well. Especially Reichsman. Such massive comic book staples that are captured PERFECTLY.
Ruludak/Faathim/Lunaruu: I love the Rularuu villains. They look so otherworldly and godly, yet weirdly they suit the comic book setting. They are large and grandiose, just like the Shadow Shard they inhabit. I think having enemy groups fit the zone they're in is important to the overall feel of the group. Honourable shout out to the Storm Elementals too. They look badass.
Bad Penny: I always liked this guy. Considered him to be the unofficial head of CoH's Rogues Gallery. Wish more was done with him. His costume is simple but awesome. If he could be made into COH's version of Captain Cold I would be happy.
Nemesis: A blatant Doctor Doom ripoff but also strangely unique. Probably the best designed villain in the game. Wish more was done with him in game. His look does scream "puppet master".
The Honoree/Hero 1 - Awesome look. My fave hero costume in the game easily. It's minimal but it works. Less is more.
Noble Savage - The single best character to emerge from Going Rogue. The design is awesome and suits him very much.
Romulus - Whoah. Just...whoah. Such an iconic look that fits the iconic mission/story/setting he is in. It's what makes the ITF so enjoyable and epic.
Dreck - the leader of the Freakshow. My fave villain faction. Please put him at the end of a level 50 TF. Perhaps have him and Noble Savage as rivals. I dunno. But a Noble Savage TF with Dreck as the end AV would be AMAZING. Right now Dreck is severely underused, and he's such a badass.
The Clockwork King - a brain in a vat with two eyes. ENOUGH SAID. Completely ridiculous and camp but so so awesome.
Adamastor - GIANT GLOWING ZOMBIE! He's amazing. You fight him in a friggin' GRAVEYARD! Possibly one of the most underrated characters in the game. -
Being slowed for 30 seconds after everything is dead makes this game more of a challenge?

Quote:Viral marketing mateIf any, this gathering showed people are still interested in getting together outside of Pocket D and RPing. Every RP event I have seen on Virtue in close to 7 years has had some sort of drama associated with it after it was over. It keeps people talking about the event and even encourages more to show up next time.

Quote:He's not in the wrong for making rules. He's in the wrong for relying on rules that are not legitimate for a public event. (Apologies to Nalrok AthZim to continuously mention him.)It seems to me you're quibbling that because it's not technically possibly for a player to exclude someone from his chosen location, that he's in the wrong to set rules for his own event.
Exaggerations often are. It's called reductio ad absurdem. It's where you take what I say, exaggerate it, then tell me the exaggeration sounds silly.
Hardly something worth posting IMO.
Quote:He can, he did, and other people inadvertently didn't follow them.
So your "advice" can be summed up as follows:
1. Live in a pretend world where people do what you tell them to.
2. Make up completely pointless rules.
3. Pretend that public RP events operate like private ones.
Quote:The only concern here is how to do better next time, not to give up and let his events be redefined by minorities of players who just show up, or worse, retreat back into private spaces.
Also:
"redefined by minorities" - excuse me? Are you, in writing this, somehow implying that roleplaying styles enjoyed by minorities are some how inferior, or illegitimate? That is a dangerously elitist thing to say.
"who just show up" - excuse me? That was the whole point of this event. To "just show up" and roleplay. -
Random tangent - how was the venue? Can the MC hold a lot of people? Did it seem suited to a networking event? Would you use it again?

Quote:The "original intent" was merely a public IC meet and greet. I'd say that fratboy types certainly fit into this theme. (They are known for their love of socialising.) If an event has a specific specific style of RP theme that all attendees have to adhere to then it should say so in the original post and the event should be made private.Or perhaps he had a bad experience and needs to go to more where the fratboy types (annoying as they are, they ARE a type of character) invade and throw the original intent of an RP event out the window.
And just to reiterate: The fratboy types didn't INVADE Nalrok AthZim's event. They PARTICIPATED. Just because popular opinion (in this thread at least) paints them as griefers doesn't mean they actually are.
Quote:but if it's RPers that crash it and have trolling personalities...just block them or move to a different location.
Public RP events cannot be exclusive. -

Coincidence that this was less than two clicks away? -
It sounds like public RP events aren't for you Voehler.

Quote:You're clearly new to running RP events. I've run countless events over the years. Here's some advice. Sorry if it seems blunt. Typing this in a hurry. It's intended to be helpful, not snarky.I'm gonna leave my previous posts up, but I've talked with two of them now. I'm trying to settle the dust.
Long story short: I was pissed the hell of because this shindig fell apart in less than an hour and I had about 9 people let me know in /tells that they were upset due to the players causing the whole mess, and another 10 people tell me they were glad they didn't show up.
That's disheartening and really ******* frustrating. Yeah, I acted hastily and yeah, I got my pants in a knot. If I caused your event to go sour then you'd be pissed at me.
I'm trying to keep good air between the two whom I've talked to, because I'll respect anyone who calls me on my frustrated rantings and I'd rather build bridges.
1. If you run a public RP event expect all sorts to turn up. Including the zany/loud/attention seeking/immature types. Your event is public. You're not allowed to be picky. Absolutely no-one that attends is "butting in". All attendees are "taking part". You have no control over this.
2. If you run a public RP event you have to cater to all types of RP (serious/jokey/etc). You also have to cater to different age groups. This means not everyone will be on the same wavelength about what constitues good RP etiquette. Again, you have to accept this. You are not in the position to be picky. You simply CANNOT run a public RP event and then dictate how you want people to RP.
3. You're the host. Even though the event is public, it's your job to ensure people are having a good time to the best of your ability. That said, you have to realise that if the event is public and held in a public place, you have absolutely no legitimacy to get people to do what you say. If someone is RPing in a way you think is disruptive, then you should ask them if they could stop. Humility is key here. You are requesting that they allow you to run the event as you see fit. If they say no, then suck it up. You have no right to be angry at them.
4. Keep any drama to yourself. If you're running events you want people to feel like they can trust you. If I came to your event with a joke character and tried to make people laugh, only for it to backfire and have you make a nasty post about me on the forum, I would not feel very good. By all means do this if you want. But you will get a reputation as an elitist bully, rather than someone who runs fun events.
5. MMORPGs are full of people that largely lack social skills. If you're running an event then you really need to bear this in mind. Don't be so quick to judge someone as a griefer just because they are high energy. Maybe they're nervous. Maybe they're insecure. Maybe they just want to make people laugh. But if they're doing something IN CHARACTER then chances are they're not actually intending to ruin anyone's fun. Remember while it might be obvious to you that they're griefing, it may not be obvious to them. They might just be RPing the only way they know how. A polite OOC tell can go a long way to nipping drama in the bud before it escalates.
6. Always have a backup venue in mind. Always let one of the community team know about your event. Chances are they will attend. They are more than capable of handling REAL griefers. (Power spammers/OOC jerks/etc.)
Hope this advice hasn't seemed too patronising. I like that you're making an effort running RP events. There's not nearly enough of this sort of thing on the Virtue Server in my opinion. Don't look on this as a failure, a lot of people made contacts, had fun, and you learned how to improve the event for next time!

Here's a question; How do you know it's not females harassing you?

Have you ever noticed that nearly everyone in Pocket D has this personality:
