Quote:We did, over a year ago, and we're still here. Trying to dominate the world is a lot more fun than saving it. ^_^Why doesn't someone just start a freaking RP group? I mean seriously? This seems a bit ridiculous now.
It's the heroes who are turning into the fly-by-nights. =-p -
Many powers to edit. My SS/WP Brute's Super Saiyan days will finally be over! Huzzah!
Only one new character in mind though, a Claws/Something Brute "werewolf." -
Still in the process of rebuilding the playerbase of the Global Guard, still looking for a dedicated CoH player to take the reigns of managing the group. ^_^
-
Call me when they add villain PCs or a morality meter in CO. Until then, many shades of meh.

Really?! Huh, wonder why I had Sept/Oct stuck in my head. Virtueverse, maybe? *shrug*

Quote:As Eiko said, we've been -trying- to include other VGs and SGs from day 1, pretty much. Never seems to fail though that the other groups eitherLOL on the title I forgive you though, it caught my attention
I have heard this from a lot of people actually. I've also heard that much of the RP has turned "inside" of SGs/VGs. Which makes me super sad. When I was running the Dark Dominion, it was a VG rule that you had to do the majority of your RP outside of the group (make the RP a community, not just a GROUP of people). It was a fairly successful RP method, and it saddens me that there seems to be a lack of it.
...
-drop off the face of the earth for months at a time after setting up something
-find some sticking point in the incredibly flexible RP we do, and thus refuse to do anything else
-leave en masse for other MMOs without giving us any indication they were doing so
-dissolve in a couple weeks
-show up to plan OOC, but never show up IC
-get lost in AE
I'd love to RP outside of my group, I really would. But in my experience, it just hasn't been worth it in the long run. -
Quote:I haven't checked (whatever Aggie's join date is), but I think late September or early October will be the 1 year anniversary of the Society. *sniff**Points to the Supreme Society*
We've been going strong, for what? A year and a half now? Currently in the middle of a big plot, so it's a good time to get involved!

If you can manage to bump that time back a few hours, I'd join in, and I think I could grab another player too.
Binjy! Where are ya? *wanders off* -
That's fine Dusky. Hmm... that won't work anymore. Plainy? PW? We'll work on something.
Anyhoo, still have an open leader position for the Global Guard. We're slowly rebuilding the roster of the SG, but they aren't quite active just yet. -
You have my support, Count. Business to be done, yes?
-
To get to the point quickly, we're looking for a dedicated Blueside leader to re-build an already started superhero RP SG called the Global Guard.
Ideally, said leader will
-prefer playing CoH to CoV
-be a somewhat active player
-be comfortable recruiting RPers to the SG.
and
-be willing to experiment with RPvP
Said leader will also be given control of SG particulars (daily messages, theme, rank names, lower level permissions, that sort of stuff) as well as recruiting and promotion/demotion abilities.
The SG in question was originally created to be the in-house rivals for my supervillain RP VG, the Supreme Society. Long story short, things didn't work out as originally planned, but we're looking to start over. While we do want to keep the overall concept of the Global Guard vs the Supreme Society, the details are still up in the air. The last concept we had for the GG was a celebrity superhero team, sort of like X-Statix or the Super Young Team, but that's far from set in stone. We are open to ideas and collaboration.
The base is sizable with at least a couple teleporters. And for what it's worth. the group is currently populated by superhero alts of SS players, so other players do pop in from time to time, but I'll be honest, the GG isn't anything near active. Hopefully, we can change this.

Quote:In the grand scheme of GI Joe, I don't see how the changes to Duke, Baroness, and Cobra Commander's -pasts- affect the overall concept of GI Joe fighting Cobra for the fate of whathaveyou. What's wrong with Cobra Commander having been a used car dealer? Jimmy Carter was a peanut farmer before he was President. The idea is that the original story, albeit far fetched, had merit (in the GI Joe universe.)
The background were not 'tweaked'. They were paved over. Cobra Commander WAS NOT the brother of the Baroness. The Baroness wasn't the fiancee' of Duke. Duke wasn't every going to be brothers with Cobra Commander.
But I can see where people would rather smile and nod because culture has dumbed down things to the point where it's okay to ignore canon.
Let me ask you this:
If CoH totally broke canon and rewrote the entire thing to the point where it was nothing like we've learned, would you be happy? Or should I just say, "Hmm.. you've played for 5 years and pumped your money into this product... too bad! They aren't making this for you anymore... it's now marketed to a whole new demographic. Get over it."
To answer your question, I'd expect something to be changed in a CoH movie. There are never direct translations when a movie is made. And to be honest, even though I've played this game on and off for like 4 years, I couldn't even tell you much about the Freedom Phalanx other than the basics of Statesman's and Synapse's origins. As long as the basics are kept, what's the big deal?
I still think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. To me, the changes made to the characters in GI Joe (considering everything they got -right-) aren't that big a deal. More like making Ghost Rider the Devil's bounty hunter (which makes sense, even though the movie wasn't so good) than the complete mess they made of Catwoman. -

Quote:Did we watch the same movie? The Joes were good. Cobra was evil. Destro was an arms dealer, Zartan a master of disguise. The Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow rivalry was there. All the backstabbing in Cobra was there.Understood that the term GI Joe has had many different backgrounds, except I'm not talking about anything other than the Habsro/Marvel storyline, which the movie is supposed to follow (ie: the trademarked and owned property of Hasbro, Inc.)
GI Joe and Cobra have a set history, all of which every other Marvel/Hasbro (even Dark Horse) fed off of. GI Joe is Good; Cobra is Bad. Except this time, this movie, they changed it. They changed the whole history. The changed everything that made the Marvel/Hasbro line unique. Even the GI Joe: Resolute series fed off what is considered GI Joe canon, then turning Duke evil and having him join Cobra.
Even the original GI Joe from Hasbro (the 12 inch doll) had a story that evolved into the Marvel Comics era.
But, this movie, though it made some brief mentions to some childhood references, did not do the story of the formation of GI Joe and Cobra any justice. I mean, if you are going to tell the story, you tell it the tried and true way.
The lore of GI Joe never changed...
Are you complaining about the tweaks to Baroness and Duke? A third string character like Ripcord?! For crying out loud, we got a Sargent Slaughter cameo! Who cares if the Joes had matching outfits in the first movie, and some backgrounds were tweaked. (Would you rather Cobra Commander was a used car salesman?!) You're making this out to be a lot worse than it was
I'll give you Cobra Commander's goofball mask though, but they even went so far as to give Destro a mask right out of the comics at the end.
As far as the GI Joe canon goes, I can think of at LEAST three different explanations (And that's in addition to the one in the movie.) from various cartoons and comics as to why Snake Eyes doesn't talk, and I've read a fraction of the comics that were listed earlier in the thread. -
That sounds more likely, and pretty cool, actually. Bonus points if it's a flame whip or something of the like. ^_^

Looking to see if I have this right. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.
To achieve Perma-Dom, you need about +125% Recharge. This can be achieved -without- Hasten.
Bonuses also stack a little silly. A "particular" bonus can only be stacked 5 times. Now for example, does this mean that you can slot +6.25 Recharge 5 times, and +5.0 Recharge 5 times and get a full effect, or am I missing something? -
Quote:See, I find that funny. I actively -try- to get my VG to go to D for RP encounters with heroes, but it's an uphill battle. I prefer the bigger capacity for an audience, even if it is largely anime rejects, ERPers and catgirls, but every now and then you get lucky and find a decent RPer who doesn't check the forums for VGs/SGs, and they don't know what groups are where. It's actually kinda boring usually. The RP that goes on there is rather, well... dull. It seems like everyone just RPs small talk and flirting and, well, NOTHING. It doesn't go anywhere. Nothing cool DEVELOPS out of it. At least on a team, we have the mission to discuss, so there is some action involved rather than pointless meandering.
When I first started RPing in Pocket D, I figured It'd be villains and heroes swearing oaths, making pithy statements and becoming arch-enemies or something like that. Villains in a dark corner plotting together. Heroes trying to learn their dastardly plans to stop them. Cursing at one another, making threats, heroes trying to convince villains to give themselves up or go straight... you know, genre-appropriate stuff. As it turns out NOBODY does that.
Instead I find:
Which frankly sounds about as interesting as watching paint dry.
No one RPs superhero/villain comic books in Pocket D. They RP Beverly Hills 90210 with superpowers.
It's either D, or Cimerora or RWZ, and the latter two, while a nice change of pace and "quiet" if you're looking for that sort of thing, you're also limiting yourself in the players who can attend or spectate.
For example, a few weeks ago, the Supreme Society intercepted the Justice Guard for a planned encounter in D. Threats were made for a while, and we ended up shifting to the Arena for a little brief RPvP. After the fight, there was some wrap-up RP before everyone had to log for the night. We're now in the process of splitting up to attend to more personal rivalries between the two groups. -
Quote:I comment on something you say and I'm a Jihadist now?!I provided a definition of farming.
If it's not your thing, don't do it.
Unlike the anti-farming jihadis who want us all marching in lockstep to their notion of 'appropriate gameplay', I don't care how you get your CoH jollies.
Sensitive much? What do the kids say these days? "CoH is srs bsns." You claim you don't care how people play CoH. I get annoyed when people exploit (not farm) the game to the extent that the Devs need to take action that it affects MY experience in the game, regardless of what I do or don't do with AE. -
Quote:Hey, I'm with you, but we're getting into the territory of the "How dare you tell me how to play your game?!" silliness.I think Chase pretty much nailed it upthread in regards to farming versus hunting. Hunting is actively seeking rewards, while farming is passively seeking rewards. Running the whole Freaklympics arc once because you like fighting Freakshow isn't farming, but resetting the same Freakshow mission 20 times over because of the "good xp" is. Heck, I get frustrated if I have to restart a mission once because I didn't finish it before.
As to whether farming is "desirable" or not, I look at it this way. If I ever got around to writing a book, I wouldn't want people just rereading one page over and over just because they think that's the best bit. I want them reading the whole thing. Likewise, if I had written game content, I would prefer to see it explored rather than exploited...
