Fusionette? All of the Freedom Phalanx seem to get into enough trouble to warrant her inclusion.
In all seriousness, though, I like the idea of this. And Aett waits for his chance to become part of the gang. -
Yes and no, really.
Purples drop from any enemies capable of dropping Level 50 IO recipes. A minion has the same chance to drop a purple at -1 as a +4 would. So the drop rate per kill is the same.
However, you're likely to be able to kill the -1 much faster, so drop rate over time increases by going at -1/+8 than at +4/+8. -
Washington, DC!
Providence, RI would seem fitting, as well. -
Beam Rifle actually gets a power called Disintegrate. However, it'd be tough to reconcile it with the character concept.
I would actually suggest a Fire/Energy Dominator. Color some of the Fire powers like a light blue/white to give the appearance of being ice powers, at least until you can get your Incarnate abilities. -
Well, you want a set that is good at range to pair with it, considering that Poison is entirely a ranged set, and doesn't provide a whole lot of durability for the user in melee range.
However, this all changes at level 38, when you get one of the best powers in the set, and it's a PBAoE toggle, so then you want to be in melee range more (or almost exclusively). So you want to pair it with a set that has some melee options.
In short, you want to pair it with something that is both pure range and melee friendly, depending at which point of your career you're at.
In all seriousness, though, I think that it would work well with something like Electric Blast, Radiation Blast, Fire Control, Elec Control, or Ice Control. These sets, while having good ranged abilities, can also be good in melee range, so they can leverage all that Poison has to offer. I hesitate to say any of the weapon sets, like Dual Pistols, which might be a good candidate, because /Poison is a fairly busy secondary to have, and would therefore cause a lot of redraw. -
Pain Domination is a set that I really want to like, but can't. If I could get it on a Controller, I think I'd love it. But until then...
Other sets that I rarely see are resistance-based Stalker secondaries. -
I don't know why these types of threads don't end at this:
Taunt is a good tool for gathering aggro. If you find that you want/need to gather more aggro on to you, it is one of the best tools around for doing that. If you don't want/need to gather more aggro (i.e., you do a good enough job at it without Taunt), then it isn't necessary. It is a great tool for holding aggro, but not the only tool you will likely need. A Tanker with Taunt is not gauranteed to be a better Tanker than a Tanker without it, but it might make things easier. -
Quote:And this concept causes the "confusion" effect, how?Kinetic Melee/Dark Armor Scrapper.
Hear me out: Get hasten so that you have glowing hands. I know on most builds this is yucky but it is perfect for your concept. Of course get cloak of darkness (essentially to having her form turned chaotic) and get oppresive gloom so you have your confusion effect. Go body mastery for the extra end and so you don't break theme.
Now color all of the dark armor auras all sorts of ridiculous colors...purple, pink, yellow, red, etc. Different ones for different auras.
And you know the kinetic melee attack animations. They don't look like attack animations anyway on a normal toon. But on this tune all people will see are these crazy whirling yellow lights (from hasten) that go in strange circular strobing patterns as people are damaged. Get hover so you fly over the ground like some wort of will-o-the-whisp.
Add in the dark armor auras all colored different things and your character will be the embodiment of chaos: People will just see whirling yellow lights and all of the crazy strobing different colored dark armors. You can optionally also get the cloak of fear aura if you want people to be afraid.
I have a similar character where all of the armors are just the same color 'cause I don't want to be chaotic--I just want to be a disembodied being.
Scrapper because you can still soft-cap S/L def but get the nice damage buffs from kinetic melee. Since scrappers have higher base damage they will benefit more than brutes. Also, they get to recharge power siphon on crits from concentrated strike. The upcoming AT specific sets even have more good news, because I think there is an enhancement that ups crit rates which would be perfect for getting power siphon almost perma.
You can turn off cloak of darkness for when she is "struggling to be more human" and turn it back on again when chaos comes back.
I get what you're trying to do, but the focus is actually to get the "Confuse" effect as much as possible, which this doesn't do. -
Those aren't bad ideas, Urchin. Thanks for the help! Still might wait to see what they do with Dark Assault, but /Earth, /Psi, and /Ice are in the lead now.
-
Thanks for all of the help and input, all. I guess I should probably explain a bit more about the concept and why I've explored some of these options and am still having trouble. I think that the sets I'm really looking for just aren't in the game, and I'm trying to make due with what I've got.
While no expert at prose, I'll try to explain a bit more of what the character's concept is:
"The character was born a mutant with the ability to create goodness in the area around her. People would be healed of illnesses for instance, or if somebody was down on their luck, being around her would change it, and good things would start to happen to them. People around her were inspired to create good in the world around them, as well, for a short time. She was happy that she was able to create such a positive impact on the world.
But then her father got cancer, and her powers did nothing to help him for some reason. No one was able to cure him. So she cried out for help from anyone or anything that could heal him. A creature of chaos answered her call, and offered her a deal: the being would cure her father, but she would lose her power. She accepted too easily, not realizing the consequences. While her father got better, she came to realize that the demon had tricked her, and not only did she lose her power of goodness, he had replaced it with an aura that created pure chaos around her. The people in the hospital started attacking each other, even killing each other.
So she ran. As the chaotic aura got stronger, it even affected her physical form, changing her into a demon of chaos. However, her mind remained intact, and she remembers how she used to help people with her abilities. So now she wanders alone, struggling to help people despite her changed abilities. She came to Paragon City to try to find someone that could change her back to the way she was, but has so far been unable to find anyone to help. How long she will be able to hold onto her sanity is yet to be seen, but so far, she fights against the chaos around her, holding out for hope."
As such, I was hoping for a more "passive" confusion option than something like Plant, Mind, or even Elec, had. Something like World of Confusion is great (though it would be better if the confuse duration was longer than the pulse time). Arctic Air seems perfect, except for the whole recharge slow and afraid component (along with the -recharge from almost everything else as well). Elec/ seems to give plenty of options to proc the Cognitive confusion effect, including the auras on the pets, but doesn't really give that effect from the character.
So right now, I think that Ice/Stone might be my best fit, giving me plenty of AoE options to proc Cognitive, and still having that passive confusion effect. But I'd love to be proved wrong or given other options.
Edit -> Revised concept heavily -
Goat, if you're worried about it, you can always petition yourself, and explain the situation. I would imagine the GMs are a bit more forgiving if you turn yourself in than if someone else does it.
Though in either case, I think you'll just get a generic name and then get a rename token/an e-mail explaining your options. -
Dark Control, from what I've seen, is very range friendly, requiring that you be in melee range for either allies or enemies almost not at all.
As such, range-friendly secondaries would likely go well with it. I'm thinking /Fire and /Energy will be the better choices here, with /Elec, /Psi, and /Thorn not too far behind. /Earth is probably the worst pairing, but even that shouldn't be too bad, considering that Dark/ doesn't force you to really play at range. -
Anyone have any suggestions for which secondary might be better?
-
Well, that's why I was kinda looking forward to /Dark Assault. It seemed like it would be fairly melee friendly, but the long cone AoE is throwing me off. Basically, by focusing on melee, I lose a lot of AoE potential. Maybe they'll change it up, who knows.
/Thorny Assault might be a good match, too, but the redraw might be a bit much. Still, a decent amount of AoEs and Thorntrops to proc a huge amount. Hmmm...possible.
/Fire and /Energy are out. /Stone just doesn't feel "right" for her, though would otherwise be a good candidate. She's just supposed to be sort of a lithe demoness, and whacking people with huge mallets might not work. So that leaves /Thorn, /Ice, /Psychic, and /Elec.
Will have to decide between those four at some point, I think, or wait for /Dark.
edit -> Oh, and thanks for the reminder about the alignment power. Not sure how useful a 10 second confuse on a 3 minute timer would be, but it will be very thematic indeed. Probably gonna have to do that. -
((Okay, so this gets a bit rambly. Sorry about that.))
So, I was hoping that Dark Assault would be a little more melee friendly to help me create a concept that I've been thinking about recently. What I'm really looking for is a character that wanders into melee, and all of a sudden everyone in the spawn starts attacking each other.
To do this, I was thinking of Ice/something/Psionic, to stack the two (somewhat bad) confusion auras. With Arctic Air holding the Contagious Confusion Proc, going Cognitive Interface eventually, and World Of Confusion, I should have a decent amount of confuse rocking around.
Then I got to thinking, would Elec/ be better for this concept? Wouldn't have the melee confuse aura, but could launch the chain confuse from melee for somewhat similar results. Jolting Chain might help to deliver the Congnitive confuse proc, at least better than Frostbite would be (and it would also have Chain Fences to stack with, and the PBAoEs from Gremlins, I think). And it still at least has a melee aura to help the concept.
And then I am completely befuddled on what secondary to go with for this concept. /Earth, /Ice, and /Elec seem to be fairly melee friendly, especially /Earth, though I don't know if that fits the concept well being so "bulky" of a set.
I've got a costume ready to go here, just can't figure out how to get the concept to work. Any help would be appreciated. -
Yeah, considering that Dominators got no proliferation the last go-round, they do seem to be getting the fuzzy end of the lollipop. Dark Control does look nice, but Dark Assault isn't a cohesive set. Beast Summoning, or whatever it's called, looks a lot better by comparison.
-
Quote:Also, most of Earth Assault is melee powers. Since Dark Assault is mostly ranged (damn, there goes my character concept I was going to go for), having a PBAoE in the set seems really stupid.Agreed on Death Shroud.
It'd be alright if it were a normal PBAoE, because it's not that difficult to jump in/out of range for Cone/PBAoE once in a while, but with the PBAoE being a toggle, and with Night Fall having such a fast recharge for an AoE and having such a long, narrow cone, you're going to lose damage from the toggle just to use your other AoE.
Mudpots works better in Earth, since both of it's AoEs are spherical and can be used point blank, and people STILL skip that. Few people are going to bother with Death Shroud.
Which Dev came up with the power list for this set? I don't think the power list is what anyone wanted. One melee attack? That's it? -
-
Thanks for that, Snow.
Combine that knowledge with some common sense, and we're likely looking at something like this, right?
Tier 1: Dark Blast
Tier 2: Shadow Punch
Tier 3: Smite
Tier 4: Gloom
Tier 5: Gather Shadows
Tier 6: (Dark Consumption or Shadow Maul?)
Tier 7: Life Drain
Tier 8: (Night Fall or Tenebrous Tentacles?)(Hopefully not Moonbeam)
Tier 9: Midnight Grasp -
Quote:I figured that you didn't mean to use hyperbole there. Dev comments just sometimes get blown up over time. No harm, no foul. Apologies if I came off too harsh. No Hyperbole intended. And are you sure that's what they meant? They're adding.. dark powers to the arctype? Pardon me that's not a huge change. That's just an addition. No wonder I am confused. (It's also been rumored that the melee staff fighting power is coming out with issue 22 and that issue 22 isn't that far off.. but again I am merely goin on rumor here..)
I also think that Dark Control/Dark assault are a little less than what they made it seem like, but that's what we're getting. The last round of proliferation didn't have enough time for the animators to get both the proliferation and the new sets done in time, along with Titan Weapons and Beam Rifle, which came out after/same time. As such, the Dominator sets got pushed back a bit. There's a decent amount of animation work that is going into the Control powers, from what I hear (no tentacles, but more of an inky effect), so I can understand that a bit.
Staff Melee will come out slightly after I22, from what I've heard. -
You're adding hyperbole to what the Devs said at the time. They said that there was something in the pipes for Dominators, but that they didn't have time to get the animators on it until I22. We now know that it is Dark Control and Dark Assault for Dominators, and a modified version of Dark Miasma for Controllers called Dark Affinity.
-
I looked back a few pages, but didn't see any threads that looked like they contained what I was looking for (or at least not in the first few pages of the thread). My question is fairly simple, though: do we know what Dark Assault looks like in terms of power choices yet?

You are the one refusing to see the other side in this argument. You've been shown how numerically you are wrong, been shown reasons for why you might be seeing what you're seeing, and been told that some people LIKE the lower-population servers. And yet somehow WE'RE the narrow-minded ones?!?!
I'm sorry that you feel the way you do...truly. But merging the servers will NOT accomplish what you think it will. It will actually do just the opposite. This has been shown by many games who have done this in the past. It causes annoyance in the current population, and doesn't bring in new players, because merging servers indicates to new players that the game is dying.
So it won't do what you want, and will annoy people. And you still think it is a good idea? -
1) Use the middle mouse button.
2) I THINK there is already a way to do this, in the option menu, but I don't know what it is.
3) How new it this other game? I'm not sure if this old clunker of a game could handle something like that. Would be nice, though.
4) Already in the game. Use both the left and right buttons to click somewhere, and you move there. It does turn on auto-run after a bit, though, but I think you can turn that off.
5) Maximum? I'm not sure. Starting with 10 should be enough, but definitely more than three-four.
6) You learn to play the game in the tutorial, but I agree that more training in the first few missions would be nice, versus waiting for level 5.
7) Agreed. The LFG system needs to be expanded.
8) I don't think that this is a good idea. If you don't want to run it, there's a lot of other things to do in the game. If people like running it, why stop them?
